Ping G430 7 wood OR TaylorMade Stealth 2 7 wood?

- The average golfer tests the NEW Ping G430 7 wood and the TaylorMade Stealth 2 7 wood, are these the most forgiving golf clubs for average golfers? Every golfer should now have a 7 wood in the bag in my opinion.

Another great video. I would love to see a what’s in the bag edition. The clubs you play on medal day with yardages, gapping etc. Keep up the good work.
You got that adjustable thing down pat Andy! I just happen to own several woods and hybrids from Ping. Being able to adjust them is a god send. If you play one place pretty steady you can adjust per hole with specific clubs. There is one hole with trees all over and grunkle in front. I adjusted my Ping 9 Wood to the optimal loft and bullseye!!! I did the same for an island hole which is very tough. That one I set my Ping hybrid at 27 degrees with same result. There are lots of reasons why you would want an adjustable club. It can truly make the difference between hitting a club well or not. Thanks for the review Andy. You nailed it !!!!!
Thanx for the info Andy. I have a G430 7-wood ordered and am anticipating it soon. I have a feeling I can take both my 4 iron and even possibly my 5 iron out of the bag.
Your reviews have hooked me again. I replaced my G400 hybrid with a G430 7 wood today. We'll see if it actually replaces a 5 wood too. BTW, your video at PXG looked fun. I'm right down the 101 from there in sunny AZ. Right now the golf weather here is unbeatable.
in April i was considering a new driver for the new season but ive been watching yours and other guys reviews of 7 woods and i dont think ive ever noted a more universally praised type of golf club, i watched one the other day and data involving launch angle, distance etc etc strongly suggested 7 wood would be the club for the average golfer compared even to a hybrid (which was a surprise) but there must be some reason that numerous pros including major winners now have a 7 wood inn the arsenal, so 7 wood here we come ! cheers
I fully agree with need for adjustment for gapping distances. I have my 5 & 4 hybrids adjusted to get the correct gapping between the 6 iron to my 5 wood. I did have a 7 wood but my 4 hybrid went about the same distance so that’s why I have a 5 wood, then a 3 wood.
Ping drivers and woods have been outstanding for years.... now their irons have come of age with the new i230 and i525 ! Finally irons from Ping that don't startle you when you strike them! Improved acoustics thought the entire line worth checking out on demo days.
About 15 years ago I wanted a 3 or 4 iron replacement. Only thought was a rescue club. The guy at Sports Direct Huddersfield brought a good selection of 2, 3 and 4 rescues. I picked 1 that I thought suited my needs. He asked me to try 1 more club. He told me not to look at what the club was, just hit it. Wow, exactly what I wanted. Turns out it was a John Letters 7 wood . Fantastic, and not a club I would have asked to try. After seeing me play with it, I know of 2 friends who purchased 7 woods.
I’m playing the Callaway Apex 17 and 21 degree Utility Woods. Amazing clubs! The 17 degree easily outperformed the Cobra LTDx 5 wood for me.
Definitely want the ping thanks mate exalent review must admit I would love the ping driver to
Glad you mentioned the G430’s adjustability. I’d bet if you put the Ping in the -1 flat hosel setting, you’d match the TM’s distance and trajectory, and find it easier to cut, too.
Yes quite possibly
I will take a Ping any day!!!!! My bag is full of them.
I bought a Wilson D9 7 wood.. loving it. 5 iron bye bye.
I’ve got 7 wood Mavrik in the bag. Fav club 😊
I play Japanese fairway woods, A-Grind Cross Woods 3/16.5 - 5/20 - 7/23 which are more like the size and lofts back in the early-mid 1970s (more like a 3/4/5 wood). Matte black finishes! Will not play glossy. Non-adjustable/bonded. Another excellent video, Andy.
Wow would love to try them
I put in a 425 7 wood over the summer and it’s brilliant. It gaps off my 4 iron perfectly and so consistent even when I’m not.
I have the same club. Brilliant is right!!!! I love my Ping 7 Wood!!!
Agree with the importance of adjusting the loft, i need a 7 wood so it will be either - Cobra, Ping (too expensive) or maybe Titliest (paint finish is too soft for skied shots). Paradym carbon base has me worried ie separation issues with epoxy etc etc So If the Cobra is a good its in the Bag, Too many golfers get caught up in the BS club snobbery yer i know its their money, but quite often less pricey gear does a great Job.
I love your videos. I was inspired by your video just ordered used TS2 7 wood. Could you let me know which shaft you used for both of the clubs? Thank you!
Just bought a demo Stealth 7 wood before Christmas nice club but not played much with it so far . Friday it will get another outing 🎉
I play in Texas and play an old g25. It’s great! But the lower spin is appealing to be. I’m in Texas and some days or just awfully windy.
I got tired of not being able to hit my long irons consistently so now the longest iron I carry is a 6. but I put a 7 wood in my bag and absolutely love it! I also carry a 5 hybrid, the difference in distance for me is not huge but there is in flight distance. The 7 wood launches high and lands soft consistently. I love it! I'm 51 and a 7 wood might be considered an "old " person club, but i wont trade it for anything.
Same age, same situation. Lowest iron in the bag is a 6, and have a 5 & 7 wood and 5 hybrid (great for windy conditions, or punching out of rough). Rest of the bag is, at the long end, a driver and large 3-wood (off the tee exclusively -- and both could potentially be swapped for a mini driver), and at the short end 6 Iron up to GW for the irons, and 54 & 60 wedges. At the moment that works for me -- there was a time when I was happy with a 2 Iron, but those days are long gone!
Great head to head comparison. Being a lefty, it is very difficult to find a 7 wood. Love your content.
Thanks 👍
From a 7 wood i would definitely want a higher launch, steeper decent and and most importantly a very significant amount of spin. As I would want to be able to hold the green with a 7 wood.
Great clubs for those tricky distances. I have G425 5 & 7 woods, 7 is high, long and accurate and 5 is set at 16 deg so 4 wood giving a lower flight and longer, works well to gap my bag. Adjustability is key though.
Agree with you
I turned my g425 7w down to 19* it is such a versatile club for me
Great review. Recently moved back to fairway woods from long irons as my lessons had me hitting them better. Went for a 7 wood fitting to fill gap between 4 iron and mizuno 5 wood. Ping G430 was amazing and so easy to hit. Only issue was it went as far as my 5 wood! But as you said - adjust and a a degree. It gaps perfectly until I maybe decide to buy a Ping 5 wood I future. Such a good club
That’s great to read Neil, I love feedback from golfers who have tried the products featured
@@TheAverageGolfer no problem. Keep up the great content! They really are great forgiving clubs and deserve a little more publicity
nice review, but what about the performance from the fairway?
I’ve added a 21 degree utility club from Golfworks and have been very pleased. $100 club with Kuro Kage shaft.
Nice 👌
Thank you for promoting the use of 7 woods and in another video a 9 wood. Agree completely that the days when these were considered "sissy" clubs for ladies and old geezers are long gone. Numerous PGA touring pros now use them. They can hit a 7 wood up to 240 yards. What they are after is the high trajectory and steep descent angle to get the ball to stop on the green on shots to long par 3s and second shots on par 5s. They could hit an iron the same distance, but it would have a lower trajectory and shallower descent angle, and is more likely to run off the back of the green. One problem is that the major club manufacturers don't include these woods in the demo carts they send to golf pro shops, only the driver, 3w and 5w, making it hard to try them out.
I admit to being shallow - I like shiny things.... especially drivers and fairway woods.
Would you say the stealth 2hd would be closer to the ping flight and performance?
great review...I have a driver swing speed of 88-94 mph am 58 and hit a fairly straight ball ... handicap is 9 to 11 ....i am thinking of getting the Stealth 2 HD in the 3 wood and the 7 wood or should I go for the standard Stealth 2 in th 3HL wood and 7 wood ? very interested in your thoughts.....thx...cheers from Canada
also my driver is 44 1/2 inches.....so should i be taking some length off the 3 and 7 wood 1/2 inch to 1 inch ? thx
Way back in the day , I played Adams first edition 3,5,,7 tight lie fairway wood and they should have never left my bag as I went to a lower handicap as those clubs got me there and thought I needed to go blades and just carry a 4 wood only with the rest irons, my game stalled at a 6 handicap, should have left my bag the way it was to get to a 6 HC, I may of went lower!!!!
Hi Andy love your review👍,I have played 7Woods for 30years + & the new 7Woods are much more powerful now, last year updated my Ping 410 7Wood to Stealth 7Wood (with mixed results) you were “spot on” with your comment about the Pings big Plus is its adjustable👍, think I will be changing back to a Ping G430 7Wood this year the adjustment makes it a much more playable Club👍, Thanks Andy for your (wise words) Dickey 9hcp 67year senior golfer
Cheers Dickey hope it goes well for you
Great review!
I put a Mizuno 7 wood in my bag last year and it's my favorite club. I prefer it to my rescue and 4 iron by far. I actually dropped my Ping 4 crossover and went to a 5 hybrid instead.
More and more golfers are realising how good these clubs can be
great video, thanks
Big 7-wood fan. Currently, a Sim Max2 in my bag, but that Ping G430 looks mighty tempting!
Yep its a winner!
i’m hitting these clubs into greens not off the tee so i’ll take a steeper decent angle. i actually bought the Titleist 7 wood and it’s a peach 🍑
How do you compare the two 7 woods against your Cleveland Hy-wood
Hi AVG i have seen the vid o the 9 wood in your opinion which would you go for they seem quite similar in the numbers?
Handicap 12. 67 yrs old. 7 wood distance on average 145 yds. Is 195 yds average for an average golfer?
Both great club makers, all about what works for you
Both are good of the nice stuff what about the rough andy ?
Will be looking at both these in a couple of months with intention of putting one in the bag
Yes good point which I need to start including in future content….noted
Can you do a 7W vs Heavenwood?
Last time I was fit for FW's , it came down to TaylorMade and Ping. My results mirrored yours! Main difference is what you want out of the club- Ping's launch higher and hit a distance, great for landing on a green, whereas TM's are bombers that go forever. Just depends on what you are looking for! Great comparison!
What were the shafts used?
I’m a big stealth fan (the plus 3 wood is amazing) but the 7 wood looked very closed to me (last years version). I think the ping with that launch and spin will be an issue into the wind
Thanks for the info just ordered the 16.5 3 wood and currently have a F9 7 wood that I will try more before investing in anything else. Most of my hybrids and Fairways are old Jetspeed LH
Great video, thank you. I'm curious, what putter did you use in this video?
I have a Lab golf Mezz in the bag
@@TheAverageGolfer Thanks so much!
5,7,&9 woods for me.... don't think I would ever go back.....9 wood probably the biggest surprise....5 iron distance stops like a wedge.....
I had a young guy tell me you shouldn't be allowed to hit woods on 170 yard par 3's.....he wasn't quite so cocky when I put it to 2 feet and holed the birdy putt......
I think it's these kind of clubs that keep you in the game as you get older and loose a bit of speed.....no long irons ever again😂
For you, what hybrid do you hit the equivalent distance, and have you now chosen to carry a 7 wood instead of that corresponding hybrid in your bag?
It would be a 4 hybrid and yes I would prefer to have the 7 wood
@@TheAverageGolfer thank you
$350 per fairway wood is a bit ridiculous.
I feel that a lot of golfers do not look at higher lofted fairway woods because the golf industry and the golf retailers really do not promote higher lofted fairway woods. At most of the golf retailers in the United States, you are lucky if you can find a higher lofted fairway wood (7W and above) on the shelf in even a regular flex shaft. You will have an easier time finding a unicorn than ever finding one with a stiff or extra stiff shaft.
Most of the demo carts or demo days won’t even have higher lofted fairway woods, or if they do, they will be 99.99% of the time be in senior or ladies flex.
I signed up for a Callaway demo event this past Saturday and I was interested in higher lofted fairway woods. The fitting cart for the 2023 version and the people on site did not have anything above a 5W to test. This is not a one off case when I go to try to test.
I play an extra-stiff 7W and 9W since they launch so much better, but I had to make the clubs myself from components.
I do appreciate you and other golfers getting the word out there, so maybe the retailers and manufacturers will start listening
Have you had a chance to try the Cobra Aerojet 7 wood yet? I'm curious as to how it will match up against these two.
Not tried any of the Cobra product yet
Thanks for the review Andy love the look at the Ping g430 9 wood & the 7 wood bye bye hybrids & your spot on about the credit card 💳 😀
just bought one after watching this and few more Vids
Stiff or Regular flex?
your thoughts on the Stealth 2 HD 7 wood ?....cheers
Filmed a video with the 5 HD yesterday, super impressed but not tried the 7 wood
That's a beautiful location
It really is Sam
What do you think 7 wood vs. 9 wood? Especially out of the rough
I did some vids on it last year, there isn’t a huge amount to seperate in carry but ball flight very diffeeemt and obviously the loft on the 9 wood preferred from rough
9 wood is amazing. It turns 5 iron distances into scoring opportunities.
I bet the woods don´t have the same measured loft. Lower launch, spin and more ballspeed for the Stealth.
What is the origin/meaning of the term "dry ball data"?
Think it means inside with no weather influence…wind or rain…hence dry ball data.
Biggest problem for me is that TM doesn't make a left handed 7 wood so it's gotta be Ping all day for me!
Discrimination 😂
This video has ONE HUGE PROBLEM!!! It's so good I just had to give a try at creating a catchy comment title.
I've never understood why TM don't make their standard model adjustable considering every other manufacturer does. Surely TM would want every golfer fitted properly condering the cost and this is the model that suits almost every average handicap golfer.
£329 !!! Most of my buddies are not even looking to buy new clubs anymore unless something breaks. Prices are completely nuts...
Adjustability is not important to me. Also, the Stealth 2 HD 7 wood has a lower profile, like the G430.
Does no else play on the courses when you film!
No I insist on removal of all other golfers…..
@@TheAverageGolfer LMAO!!!!
Went for a fitting today and came away with g430 driver and 7 wood
Good luck and great choices, play well
Big fan of a 7w but with my swing a shallow faced fairway works better than a taller face. I have a G425 5w which performs brilliantly but it is LOUD. That G430 7w looks perfect for me (I really like the matt finish), I know from my current 7w it should carry 195-200 yards, no need for it to go longer as my 5w carries 210 yard.
Stealth looks slightly taller club face and assuming my testing results follow Andy's I would prefer the Ping due to slightly more spin, and steeper descent angle - long shots into greens should stop faster with the Ping
Yep I tend to agree, this years Ping line up really work for me
I just picked up the original stealth driver, 5 and 7 wood from my pro shop, they were virtually giving them away, and the 5 and 7 are game changers.
I just can't justify the price tags of new when 12 months on they are this cheap.
Take a shot after you hear “dry ball data” and your not walking the course, lol
OK !!!!! I had to go back and play this review again!!! DAMM ! UR were right! LOL! I finally hit a 7 wood 4 the first time ! And WOW ! 3 woods finally staying in the garage! LOL! Thanks so much for! Now I’ve got 2 find more time 2 play !
Rock of Gibraltar?
Yes 👍 in view at all times
Is this the only RUclipsr talking about Ping and TaylorMade while the rest of the world is talking about Callaway lol.
The problem with the adjustable hossel, is increasing or decreasing the loft as you know is the face angle changes and the average golfer has no idea how to handle the adjustments needed to hit the middle of the fairway especially with a fairway wood and hybrids.
Stealth HD/ high draw is a different beast. Might be more comparable.
Another cracker mate. Keep them coming
Would love to see you do a 3 wood comparison, rogue 2, new ping and the paradym. Had a fitting yesterday and results very interesting
What did you prefer?
@@TheAverageGolfer the paradym. Distance, dispersion and feel. Then rogue then ping. Lost distance with ping, higher spinning, still hated the noise. Loved the rogue just wasn’t quite as forgiving for me and preferred how the paradym sat behind the ball
@@mattneedham3595 Paradym is certainly fast off the face, I think your results are pretty much the difference between Ping and Callaway this year
@@TheAverageGolfer funny enough mate it’s almost identical to my driver fitting last year distance apart. The ping 10 yards shorter than the other 2 and the rogue better dispersion and more forgiving than the stealth although not a lot between them
My Callaway 7 wood AI SMOKE MAX D was love at first swing. I’m done with hybrids now. Getting the 9 wood next. They are so easy and fun to hit 😃 I went to a demo testing with intent to buy a new 5 wood and left with a 7.
I’m done with my 3 and 5 wood now too. 😂 the 7 and 9 are so much easier to hit.
Get me a 7 wood and I’d happily put it in my bag 🏌🏻♂️
Absolutely 👍
