Hey everyone. Please to enjoy my fumble, 😂! Also, the full review is coming along really nicely. Stay tuned. We will have it up soon! Tell me what you want to know and I’ll try to get it in! Thanks in advance all the great comments. You all always come through!
Do you have any idea when you will get your hand on an A95L? Can't wait!!!
If you could test for the HDR brightness fluctuations discussed in the AVS Forums owners thread
I would like to know why streaming dolby vision programs like Silo streaming on Apple TV are so dark and grainy on this TV. Does it not have the power or panel to handle UHD or DV streaming. Please evaluate that problem, a lot of us are experiencing this dark, grainy picture on HD material.
Thanks
Hey Caleb I will say you know I'm a die hard Sony Fan but man this TCL looks awesome so far! I know you hate doing this but please test out the Motion smoothing and all for the full review. I love the soap opera effect... Also I forgot to say this on the last video but if you drop Numbers for nit nerds I'm definitely buying some merch... I'll wear it in my videos for sure!!😅
You don’t have to be a kid to build a fort
I have the 85 inch version. this TV has changed my mind entirely of Mini LED technology. I was coming from a Sony OLED and heard a lot of rave about this TV. decided to take a chance away from OLED and try it out. Man...the first thing I put on was Super Marios Bros movie. I was stunned at the colors and luminance from this panel. black levels are impressive and really blurs the line of thinking it was an OLED. TCL knocked the QM8 out of the park.
Same here! Minus coming from an OLED. I've been blown away by mine. TCL has had this tech for years now. Making fantastic TV's that never make it to the USA (outside of the original 8 Series). So to finally get something in the mini led market with the specs this TV has, and at this cost, has been fun!
Would you say this TV is a viable alternative to to QD OLED?
@@markbridle9329 I would confidently say this is a viable alternative to QD OLED. this will still be brighter than most QD OLEDs on the market. Black levels on QD will still be better than this TV. however, the dimming zones on the QM8 are so damn good.
@@csi2448 agreed
How's the viewing angles?
Looking forward to more settings suggestions that I can use for my QM8. So far I'm loving this TV. Thanks Caleb!
Let's appreciate that we live in a world where mattress sized TVs are completely normal and attainable.
Review I have been waiting for. Keep up the great work.
Cheers from the Jersey Shore.
FINALLY!!! Been checking hourly for this one.
I’ve been waiting for this video!!
Make sure to check out our full TCL QM8 review: ruclips.net/video/w9l4JCB83X8/видео.html
Loving it Caleb! I am sooooo looking forward to your full review of the QM8, and also the 85” Hisense U8K. Then you need to put them in a head to head comparison. 😁👍 These are my short list TVs to replace my aging LG and your reviews will heavily swing my decision!
They are both great TVs....It's really up to the buyer as to which one you like better.
that was great Caleb, I'm looking forward to the full review coming up. I like that subwoofer you have on the floor. what is the cone made of ?
Nice review keep up the good work fella
That's awesome I get mine Tuesday
Would love a video on calibration process you use. What tools do you use, how you go about running test patterns and evaluating the readings. Would be great if it covered all adjustments a calibration might make. Enjoy the content and continue to watch even without being in the market for a new TV.
Thanks for the video!! I got my 85QM8 two weeks ago and I absolutely love it!! It had a day 1 update out of the box, which took some time to install. I am still playing with settings for picture because each type of content I watch has a different setting. HDR for example shows different from Dolby and that's different from standard content. I wish there was a setting that would allow for my picture settings to carry over to various types of coded content. I just discovered I can adjust the warmth on Dolby settings, that was driving me NUTS because it defaults to warm. I get a few mins a day with my TV usually lol. So eventually I'll get it calibrated to how I like it under each type of content setting.
DROP ALL THE SETTINGS BRO lol.
Can’t wait to see the reviews of the rest of the TLC series
That made me laugh so hard for no reason haha when he almost dropped it😂
Can you do a summary of the overall best settings we should set?
So far, the QM8 looks nice. Look forward to the full review. I have watched others, but have total respect for your take, and you and your videos are always entertaining! Thanks for leaving in the “fumble.”
The QM8 85" is one impressive looking TV. I recently bought the QN90B 85" for $1609 through Samsung's Employee Purchase Program, and it's been fantastic. Samsung threw in the Samsung Care+ 2 year coverage for free. I wont be upgrading that TV for a long time. The Tizen OS is slow, but I use an Apple TV 4K 2nd Gen for streaming. Looking forward to the full review!
That's what I'm going get on black Fri the tcl has bad viewing angle and upscale
@@chrome3720 The QN90B doesn't disappoint. It's a fantastic TV, and I highly recommend it. I hope stock is available when you're ready to purchase it.
I felt that film pull! i even paused at that last pull and waited and then felt it! 'Satisfying' you said Caleb I have to agree lol!
Glad TCL is now attaching the foam to the peel off plastic and not the screen directly. Felt like i might break the screen when i took the foam off mine.
From all indications so far it looks like TCL has a premium winner.
These TCL mini led TVs are ungodly bright. Even with sun streaming into my room I rarely crank it up to much past 60 or 70. Pretty crazy!
Yeah, I have the 6 series mimi led in my room it blinds you at night. If you don't turn it down, lol
How many nits full screen
It Is Three Comments.
Retina burner lol
@@Noticerofthings Just shy of 900 nits full screen.
Hey Caleb, 85” QM8 owner here. Were intelligent mode settings disabled when you were doing the HDR portion? Brightness settings shouldn’t have been shared between SDR and HDR. HDR should have defaulted to 100. Also, make sure you check in with TCL regarding firmware V283. Versions prior to that have a dimming bug in all HDR content that causes global brightness fluctuations. Those of us who initially reported it got pushed a new update that isn’t GA yet.
HDR content dims for me too much. Are you saying there's an update I can request from TCL that addresses this?
Good looking out, Nathan. Int. Mode may have been engaged at the time, but it is off now and I checked luminance readings with a variety of brightness settings. I did get the update you’re referring to. It isn’t pushed to the public, but I’m not seeing those fluctuations anymore. To be honest I only saw them a few times and out of the corner of my eye. Had me wondering, “did I just see that, or was it just me?”
@@Caleb_Denison so how does one get this "update" because I noticed it on mine and it's really annoying lol
@@RobertoMezquiaJr Turn on automatic updates and when it is released; you’ll get it. I got it by providing my TVs ID number to TCL and they pushed it to my review sample. But customers need to wait until it has been issued publicly. I imagine it won’t be long now.
@@Caleb_Denison thank you. Automatic updates are on since day one. I guess I'll just wait. Hopefully I'll get a notice when it updates so I can confirm it was fixed.
I have this tv. 75”. Man, it’s so bright. Too bright at times. Love it. I also unboxed myself. It was really hard to do.
Quick question, can it be too bright for a dark bedroom even at low brightness?
@@makatron not if you turn down brightness. If it’s all the way up then it’s way too bright for a dark room. My living room can be both dark and bright. Depending on the day
@@paulcotton5096 does it have adaptive brightness?
@@paulcotton5096how is it in bright room with glare from windows?
@@ClownfishDepot no issues. Still super bright. I see no glare when my blinds are open and it’s daylight. Far better than my lg oled c2 I had in that spot previously
Even viewing this on my iPhone 13 Pro Max in 2160 through RUclips looks jaw dropping. The 98 inch version looks out of this world too
“I really shouldn't do this by myself, but that's not going to stop me!” 🤣
Bet you don't use Google Navigation when you drive either. “I know where I'm going! I don't need my car to tell me where I'm going!”
🤣 LOL 🤣
Based off what you've seen so far, do you think this would be a substantial upgrade from a 82" Samsung Q8NF? Trying to decide if its worth pulling the trigger on.
Seeing you unbox and assemble that TV drove me crazy. You can slide out the bottom cardboard and middle foam where the stand goes, the TV will stay free floating with the foam on the sides, and then you just connect the stand. There was absolutely no need to lay down the TV
Thats good to know thanks! mines coming today! Man that looked like it would have done damage to the tv huge flex
In Australia TCL TV's 75" and above come with removable middle foam to attach the stand to the TV, guess it's not everywhere @@TheDreamOfATree
i have the 65" version and wow, although I have it hooked to a PC and getting a balance between the desktop and video's is a challenge, it is a very impessive tv
Love my new 75QM8.
I'm getting the 85 inch cannot wait oh my God 😊
I have been watching your tv reviews for a LONG time now... But it just dawned on me, how the hell are those TVS brought up to your place? Those things are huge!
finally something you can watch during the day without the need to close the window. taking a break from oleds
Are you going to review the 98 inch model?
Bought a "75 and am waiting till Wednesday for it to come. The hype finally got to me and RTings are taking forever to review it. Had to take Caleb and FOMO's words for it.
First time I follow every second of unboxing video
I am still waiting for 98 inch comes out. Hopefully next month. Can’t wait to have tcl qm8 98 inch
Such a nice tv damn
Caleb you've killed me with the humor...first it was Sony and the numerous cover plates like a LEGO toy and "Samsung I'm talking to you"😂😂😂... that's how it is done.
Tease, tease, tease. Was hoping this was a full review. Sighhhh! Hope the full review hits soon!!!
Nice to see a review is on the way, but I'm bummed it's for the 85" version, only because I've learned that performance can vary depending on panel size. I'm considering a 65" due to my room size. Still eager to see the upcoming review thought. Bring it!
Is a 77 G2 worth getting for £2500-£2700?
What price do we expect the G3 to hit this black Friday?
I love my 85QM8
I recently purchased the TCL QM8 85" tv. Most of my viewing is limited to on-air antenna live tv and streaming Netflix and Prime. What Picture mode do you recommend for watching live tv vs streaming Netflix and Prime? Also any recommendations on Motion handling settings for each of these sources?
Which brand would you say is the best value flat screen TCL or Hisense in the 50" - 58" size? Also, what would be a good wall mount for a tv of this size with a shelf for a soundbar?
Best vicarious film pull ever!
I'd love to see a q7 video! Q8 is a little too much for the second TV id use it for (C1 gang)
Great video but you forgot one thing.. where in the box did you get the remote/instructions?! Mine doesn’t seem to come with anything!
Caleb am I seeing a light band on the top of the screen, particularly on the top right side? Around 8:30 on. Curious.
Do you think having the television with the maximum black light zones will be 75 inch look any different
I got the 85" ordered few days back. At the price point the risk is too low to worry.
Which tv will you recommend? hisense UH8 or this one?
This is similar to last years TCL C935 which we have in Europe with google TV. I have the 75 inch C935 with 1920 dimming zones. Blacks are super impressive and the picture quality is excelllent!! The dimming zones have very minimal blooming.
85C845 vs 75C935 Which TV to choose, they cost the same, it's very difficult
@@lyuto_bor the C935 is still TCLs top of the line in Europe. I'd go with the C935
@@NoExceptionsGuy
Is the little line on the bottom left a reflection?
I Watch everything in Dolby Vision dark. What are your favorite picture setting modes?
When set to Dolby Vision Dark and Dolby Vision Bright, is the Brightness control still available for adjusting?
Simply based off your previous quick look video i pulled the trigger on the 75" qm8 right away. Got it delivered and mounted yesterday and so far, wow.
Much improved from my 65" x900h.
I would love some detailed settings for morion etc.
Going to be primarily streaming and watching sports eith very mild gaming.
Thanks Caleb, this is great
Hey I have a x900h and am looking to get the qm8!! How does the local dimming compare? And have you hooked up a current gen console to the qm8 yet?
@@ihatemytown I haven't hooked up a console yet, just got it yesterday. But im liking it better than my Sony. But keep in mind I also went from 65 to 75. My situation, I'm absolutely happy I got this tv
I'm also thinking to replace my 85 x900h. Is it really a big difference when in comes to picture quality?
@@synoykkassey1277would like to know as well as I have the 950h
Now, I went from a 65 to 75 so there's a difference just there. But there is a huge difference in a lot of areas. I don't even have my settings dialed in yet, and black levels are as close to OLED as you can get on mini led, and contrast is much better, blooming is a lot better, and motion is a lot better than the 900h. I had them both set up next to each other for a minute and you could definitely tell the improvement. Now, the qm8 is a very bright tv.
The newer Sony's seem to have an advantage in the color control category. The qm8 is more vivid and bright, which is my personal preference, where the Sony is more toned down and maybe realistic looking, for lack of better words.
You should check out the live stream of FOMO from about a week ago.
Also I'm not a huge fan of quantum tv, but he did an in depth comparison between the qm8 and Sony that is up on RUclips today.
Hello,
Please review Q650G as well. I am comparing R646 and Q650G and super confused. One has 120hz and other has some other benefits.
Can you please test the Motion clarity at 120fps with the max Motion smoothing setting. It is supposed to have 4x better motion clarity. Just open the UFO test, and at 480 pixels per second, the Alien Eyes should look sharp. Yes, the brightness will be reduced when the persistence is reduced unless the display is driving the backlight harder, but that doesn't mean it's useless.
Are these the same Alien Eyes from Las Vegas? Because I have not been able to find any sharp footage of that incident.
Are you telling me this tv can play a 30fps normal hd movie into 120fps?!
That moment at 1:51 my heart was on the edge
I wish you could test the TCL C845k. The Europe UK Version.
I thought I heard you say you measured the TV - is the advertised 74.6" width accurate?
Is this the same as the TCL C845? Or are they different models?
Non TV related: What are those see through blinds in the office space called? What name/term should I search for on Amazon or Google?
If I'm watching a video in Smart HDR, should I turn on Motion Clarity or off?
Is the screen damaged or is that a reflection on the left side of the screen?
It sure looks like the tv needs a lot of effort to go through all the various settings just to get a decent picture.
How does this compare to the Sony X93L in performance and amount of blooming?
does it come with mounting device?
I wish there was a way to increase brightness in Dolby Vision Bright and Dark. I have a lot of ambient light and the IQ looks the best but I can't turn off the motion clarity.
Are you testing this with the day one firmware or the beta that fixes some of the dimming issues? Seeing good things from people running the beta and it should be going wide to all soon.
Earlier was on day one firmware. I’m running the beta now.
@@Caleb_Denison Excellent!
Will you make a Samsung S90C review? 🤩🤩🤩
would it be possible to show how TV's function when in their 'basic tv' mode aswell. I ask as these days I am much more likely to just want to switch to a dedicated streaming box like an AppleTV or NVIDIA Shield and a game console rather than using integrated apps
Basic mode in Google tv is not kuch different than non. I run basic on my tcl and home page is very simple and clean, no ads.
❤Wow super
Hey sir, been following you on RUclips for awhile now, love your channel. I have a question, I have 2 rooms with 65 inch displays, in my main ( and darker) room I have a Sony A 80 J and it is pretty awesome. In the other and much brighter room I have an old Sony X 900 E which has been absolutely fantastic. My problem is after watching this OLED a lot the 900E finally is showing it’s age I guess because it has slowed down a lot and it doesn’t seem to like the 4 K sports on RUclips Tv as it stutters at times. I would love to have your opinion on what I should buy and I believe I want to stay with an LED and not spend over 1500 dollar range. Thanks so much!
The 65 inch QM8 is 1,299.99 right now at Best Buy...and is mini dot... It's a fantastic TV.
Is the qm8 coming to Europe? Or is it essentially the C845K in Europe?
Does this thing support VRR and 120Hz? Im only gonna use it for PS5 play.
How bout black levels, viewing angels... and most importent, is there any bloooming? Will you check theese things?? :)
Edit: Doesnt seem to aviable in sweden... :/
OMG, you are KILLING me.... THIS is the video you choose to split the unboxing/review? Don't you know making a dude wait can kill him?
Sorry friend! It was such a task to get going, figured we’d shoot it and publish while I was testing (very thoroughly)
😂😅 you win the Internet
It Is Three Comments.
You forgot the ULTRAwide colour gamut!! 😂😂😂 When it fell over might have yelped a tiny bit! LOL
Whats the weird smudge on the lower left area of the pannel??
Was just waiting to hear...TCL remote ultra
What happened to the House Studio from last year?
I own this tv in my main living room. OLED in the other. Both 80+
Is this a great Mini LED tv. Yes. Great for bright rooms. Gaming etc.
Does it hold a candle to my OLED? No. Not even close. But if you’ve never been one to own an OLED. This will suit most just fine.
Is the qm8 the same as c845 for australia
If that box fell, would it have been damaged? I was told to haul mine tall side up and it fell over in transport. Haven’t opened yet
HELP I BOUGHT THIS TV BECAUSE OF YOU AND LOST THE REMOTE! Great TV but I need a replacement remote and they want 100 bucks for the OEM one, can you recommend a cheaper alternative replacement remote.
What I want to know is where can I get that TV stand?
Black crush? EOTF tracking?
Can I set the TV so it does not go to the home page? want it to just turn on and go to HDMI 3(arc) to start showing that feed.
How does it compare to the x93L?
I have the same “Forced HRD” is all my TCL Home screens. I’ve searched for months around hour to make the “home screens” SDR but have had no luck in turning off the HDR. All my apps home sreens are the same. Over blown HDR colours. All the setting are correct in video play back though for all apps. Videos look great in SDR and HRD. I’m super keen to understand if anyone has been able to resolve the issue.
Hi Caleb. I’m a super fan of your videos. I’ve had this question for years and I think you may be the perfect person to answer it. When commercials and RUclips videos show the viewer a screen on the tv they are talking about, isn’t the picture only as good as the tv they are watching? Or is it more to it than I understand? You make the best videos. That’s why I bought a Hisense ULED. Love it!
I asked that same question on a Caleb video!! Sure hope he answers YOU!!!😜
The answer is OF COURSE!
@@CarsandCats If that is true, and I concur it is, then it begs the question, is there a point to capturing images in a review video when the image is colored by the TV through which the viewer is looking? Seems to me that a better way to see it would be showing images with another TV side by side, but I realize this is not a perfect solution either because of the way the camera captures both TVs together and perhaps corrects one over the other as far as brightness and exposure is concerned. My A95K makes most TVs look really great, but I can see differences between two different TVs being shown together. I understand brightness may be hard to judge but certainly details, color luminance (if not blown out by overexposure previously mentioned) and motion differences may be valid? Not sure about blooming because exposure could be a factor there as well? Doing these reviews must be such a challenge for the content creator on RUclips. I can only applaud them for the attempt and for how well they do succeed.
This tv and and the hisense cx may be the brightest tv on the market right now
Noti gang on deck
Is it okay to lay the tv screen on the Styrofoam like that? Honest question, because handling these bigter tvs can be difficult haha 3:59
I really hope you do a q7 video
Is this called something different in UK or is it just not available in uk
The biggest question is do u see difrnece on a 8k screen when playing regualr content compared to 4k tv
what tv stand is that?
