In Europe we have the TCL C935 75 inch which I own, with 1920 dimming zones and 2000 nits since last year. I love it. Brilliant TV contrast is fantastic
It seems to be a fantastic TV. Will be considering it along with the QN95c this year. I assume the TCL with have other, not yet observed, downsides like narrow viewing angles and bad color gradation or banding etc. If this TV really has no weakness and outclasses Samsung & Sony this year, then it will be a rare once-in-a-decade event and an absolute must-buy TV!! :)
I'll wait for the full reviews to judge, but where TCL and Hisense typically fall short is on image processing and build quality. Samsung, LG, and Sony all upscale better and have better motion processing.
@@randallsmith2521 agree with everything you said but build quality. My TCL and Hisense TVs are going strong. My Samsung is dead though. (And my first TCL is almost ten years old. I have 3 now.)
The upscale I don't worry about much, cause I'm generally watching 4k stuff anyway. Plus I have a Nvidia shield which is the best upscaler. No good work around for motion though. But I don't watch sports so that helps.
@@TBoogy3 there is a TCL 6 series display at the store I work PT at on clearance. I'm waiting for it to drop a bit more, and it will become the living room TV in the house we are moving to. The living room in the new house is brighter than where we are now. Currently we have a cheap 55" Amazon Omni that I got at Christmas time for $100. We're running it in vivid mode to get the brightness my grandmother wants. We are certainly going to have to go to a brighter TV for the new place. The QM8 won't be an option because it doesn't come in 55".
@@randallsmith2521 consider the Hisense too. But yeah these TV's are great for a bright living room. I just moved and did the same. My main tv now is a 85 inch Sony. Great upscaling. Color reproduction. Motion handling. Terrible reflection handling and brightness. Really needs to be in a basement.
I have the previous model TCL 98 TV in my home theater, and it stopped me from upgrading my projector. Based on this review, this newer version is going to be much better. TBH I haven’t used my projector since getting the TV and I’m definitely watching more tv from my home theater room. The tv is nice. Paid under 5K for it, and for me it was worth it. For those looking for a TV in the 100 inch range, TCL is a good decision. I truly can’t justify upgrading to their latest model because my current 98 inch is more than enough. These TCL TVs are good for the market. I will get the latest TCL 65 inch to replace the tv in my family room.
I'm very interested in the full review. I hope there isn't a ton of issues in regards to reliability as I really want to grab one and have it last 7 years.
Same here. I had an LV 43UH610V, lasted me for 7 years since 2017, died two days ago because of an electrical surge.Probably would have kept me going for another 7 if it wasn't for thunder falling on my building, I'll be looking into a wall energy supply with surge protection of course. I'm looking into this TV which looks amazing but I hope it can last me for that long as well.
Hey Caleb when you do finally get your hands on this TV. Can you please do a full review on the processing the motion smoothing? I know you don't like the soap opera effect but I love it. The one thing that is held me back from getting another TCL is their processing. If they cannot that out the park then this may be the one I buy over the QD-OLED. And the only reason for that is my wife watches a ton of talk shows and there is always an image on the screen and I am just scared that there is going to be burning. Awesome review. Looking forward to the full review on this. TCL.
He won’t, he produces commercials for TV companies; everything will be amazing or at worst a matter if taste. Poor quality processing is an example of something these commercial producers won’t touch or even spin it to seem positive. Buyer beware.
last year i was debating between getting an oled from sony (a80j) or mini led from tcl. obviously i got the oled because i thought it was better. big mistake because now i think oled tvs are overrated. i regret because my friend has a tcl and the brightness itself wins me over. my tv is close to the window and the tcl just handles it better. im looking to sell this thing and get this new tcl. it is good to actually watch things really really bright i love it
Great first impressions and interesting model line. But can anyone tell what is European equivalent of this model? We've just got TCL C848 (C835 from 2022) and C745 (C735 from 2022). There was even higher tier C935 from last year with superb features, but nothing about this year C945. So this new QM8 is going to be C945 in Europe? Thanx
“Movie Theaters are dying” - “Who’s to blame????” I think the answer is getting to be pretty obvious at this point. Since high quality 4k tvs have become cheap (with HDR/Dolby Vision), people are more content with waiting to rent/stream a movie on their home tv and not have to pay an arm and a leg for concessions. I have a B7 OLED(which is 5 models old at this point) and it still looks better than what is in theaters. It’s just wild how economic it is to get a fantastic home tv. Move theaters need to step it up with more Dolby Theatres/Laser Imax theatres to compete with the quality of home devices these days.
Herd this might be the TV to buy for 2023 looks like I'm getting the 75 inch time to upscale in size always get 65 but finnaly time to make the jump up thanks for your review keep up the great work 👍
This was a helpful video. I never really pay attention to TCL and was much more focused on the Samsung QN95C 85" to replace my 2018 Samsung Q9FN 75". The price is about double the TCL for the same size. If the reviews show that the TCL is competitive with the QN95C including for gaming, than I might make the switch because of the huge price difference. Will be interesting to read your review.
I bought a brand new TCL 65" CLASS 8-SERIES 4K QLED DOLBY VISION HDR ROKU SMART TV - 65Q825 with mini led backlighting in 2020 for $999.00, it still amazes me at how well the blacks look while watching space sci fi movies. My next tv will probably be a TCL also!
Hi after you complete your full QM8 from TLC and your full U8K from Hisense reviews I would love to see a head to head review maybe using a 65" or 75" TV as most people don't have space for an 85" and above in there living Rooms.... I was thinking before watching this Video Hisense 100% but now you have me scratching my head and saying not so fast.... please also address the Audio on both that would be greatly appreciated.... you always do an awesome Job of keeping reviews entertaining without talking down to consumers kudos for that!!!!
@@Necrohermit that's what TCL is hoping for. They're hoping the QM8 will be good enough for people to splurge. Nothing smaller than 65" doesn't help though
This looks great! only thing is dislike with it so far is the lack of 4 hdmi 2.1 ports, it probably doesnt have gigabit ethernet, and that is about it. I'm fed up of everything going on about OLED screens when they can afford to replace them every 2-3 years once they get burn-in. We need long-term tech that wont become junk so soon
As well as ethernet and HMDI spec, from a Brit perspective we need to know about whether this is coming to our market and if so, whether UK catch-up apps are onboard. Plus latency figures for gaming, HGIG, DTS:X support, USB port specs, reflection handling, viewing angles etc. There's a lot more we need to know before we can consider it as an option.
I'm a Samsung guy at heart, but I love my TCL. Torn if my next TV will be Samsung or TCL. Crazy. Only problem I have is my Samsung tab and phone don't connect properly to it.
I have the current TCL 6 series. Love the TV so far and mini led has won me over. This new TCL TV sounds awesome, but I'm disappointed that it's the only one in the TCL lineup going forward that offers mini led. My 65" 6 series retailed for $999. It's a shame that the new Q7 series won't offer mini led for about the same price to fill that void.
Super pumped for full reviews on both the MQ8 and Q7 TV's. Was very interested in Sony's 75" X90L, but the 75" TCL MQ8 MSRP is only $100 more even with mini LED! Plus I gotta say that center pedestal pedestal stand makes me rather happy. Don't understand why all these large TV's have feet stands, then you just gotta buy an aftermarket center stand or new furniture...how annoying!
Wondering if the 3000 peak brightness has to do with the 3x5 they talked about coming later this year. 3000 peak brightness and 5000 dimming zones. Maybe a software update will be involved to unleash those things. That being said, the 98” will be in my house this year for sure.
Thank you for this. I own a Sony 900F 85 inch that I bought right before Covid hit. This TCL in a 98 inch size looks like my next TV. Please let us know how well it upscales SDR, for those Gilligan’s Island reruns. Keep up the great work.
As a Gunsmoke fanboy, nothing is helping old shows like that lol, especially if it's on regular TV. You'll need a Sony for that, and even that won't be enough
Juat went to Best Buy lookjng to check out if the 2023 TCLs came out yet. Natually nobody knew a thing, but one guy googled it and told me that a bunch of info dropped just yesterday. So here i am searching fkr more info on it. Im definitely in need of an upgrade on my current 65" Vizio P-Series and the 85QM850G looks like its gonna be in my livingroom in the coming weeks. I wonder where I can get a good deal on one.
@@KRODKROD7 I waited a little longer and it dropped an additional $100. So I have it coming today from Best Buy. It was $2399. Pretty excited to upgrade my TV finally 😅
The new TV tech sounds great in both brands that I've seen you review so far. They're all beyond my budget but I'm glad for the rest that can afford them. I'm not certain but it would seem prudent (if they're comparable) to use a laser projector for the larger sizes. I personally think that the majority of the electronics should be in a separate module like the last review. If the tech is made compatible, upgrading/ replacing screens can be easier as well as serviceability if there's a component failure. Thanks again for all the well presented insight.
So TCL is moving to Google tv. Is this due to Roku making their own tvs now and who makes roku tvs. Does google tv have better images/motion than roku software processing?
i've been waiting for a couple good years before upgrading my current TCL 6 and it looks like this is gonna be the year i get the new one. great review, 🤯you didn't say if it's Roku or not; i do NOT want a google tv, 😡 so, it' must be Roku for me. 🙄🤭 oh yeah, subscribed! 😉

Q: How good is it against the best OLEDs in Sci-Fi battles with starfields as backgrounds? How many zones do we need that Mini-LED becomes an OLED competitor?
Any plans to start releasing videos in HDR? Every time you say "nits" or "brightness" a part of me wishes this video was in HDR. We need more HDR RUclips videos!
RUclips's HDR support isn't that great though. There is no point, it's like when guys do speaker reviews and then play ten minutes of recorded audio back on RUclips. It does no product justice and is a waste of time.
I was just about to pull the trigger on a Qn90b. Is it worth waiting for this? It being brighter isn’t much of a factor for me since the qn is plenty bright. Which one is better??
The video provided by the manufacturers to show case their sets is always stunning. What's really important is how the set "looks" while watching Judge Judy or TMZ.
Ehhh not really. I see what you’re saying in terms of using actual use case scenarios, but you would still want to have high quality source footage to show off what the TV can do with the proper material. No one should buy this TV to watch cable or something from a low quality source.
I currently have a 55in C9 I want to go bigger for my bedroom. I moved and have a bigger bedroom now. Can't wait for the full review and see if this might be an update.
Did they ever finally fix the QC on their panels? Because BOTH the ones that I got have purple hazing issues in grey and dark backgrounds. And their processing is still very lacking from what I’ve seen last year.
Please share what the off-axis viewing is like. I hope that it is excellent in this regard, competing with OLEDs. And please keep in mind that this is such an important consideration for a lot of buyers who have a wide seating area.
TCL is already selling X11G a 5k dimming zone and 5k NIT peak bright tv. For main stream market their Q10H has 2k dimming zones and 2k nit peak brightness. QM8 looks like a shrink down version of X11g spec wise but may charge flagship price . Why isn’t TCL putting their best product to market outside of China?
Cause they'd be too expensive and not enough people would buy them. They don't have that brand recognition yet. They've released one flagship (the OG 8 Series) in the USA and the TV released in such poor shape that Best Buy put it on clearance and stopped carrying it very quickly
Transient power spikes might be tolerated, which leads to higher peak brightness for short periods of time, but when that power is stabilized by the electronics, it settles at the lower number you saw.

I have an old 65 inch C7 OLED and this is the first TV I have seen that has actually made me considering upgrading to an 85 inch🤔
Looking forward to the full review and maybe R646/655 comps.
In Europe we have the TCL C935 75 inch which I own, with 1920 dimming zones and 2000 nits since last year. I love it. Brilliant TV contrast is fantastic
WOW $2300 for the 75” QM8!! Hurry up Best Buy and get them IN STOCK!!
When I saw the price for that and then also saw $2800 for the 85" my eyes almost popped out of my head lmao
Hi Caleb. When will you be doing a full review on this tv? Thank you. Peter
Exact same position. Paid £3000 GBP a few months back. A little upset there's already a newer model, but can't fault mine for the price I paid
I saw the 98" in my local Boulogner here in Lyon. Wow what a monster. Beautiful TV.
Buyer beware.
i never saw Cal with such enthusiasm since Sony A9G review
Can’t wait to see how this model compares to OLED such as C3 S90C etc. At this price point, would love to see it compete with more expensive sets.
last year i was debating between getting an oled from sony (a80j) or mini led from tcl. obviously i got the oled because i thought it was better. big mistake because now i think oled tvs are overrated. i regret because my friend has a tcl and the brightness itself wins me over. my tv is close to the window and the tcl just handles it better. im looking to sell this thing and get this new tcl. it is good to actually watch things really really bright i love it
@@tonypaca3015 Unless you're house is setup and viewing angles are more than 40 degrees, picture degrades. Oled still wins in that aspect.
It cant compete with oled
UFC events, sporting events are unbelievable! Just got mine couple weeks ago and I’m in love. Not to mention it’s on sale rn 🔥🙌
Thanx
Whats with TCL making this the only Mini LED set? Wasn't the 6 series mini LED from last year?
That 98 inch would be awesome for a dedicated home theater room.
“Movie Theaters are dying” - “Who’s to blame????”
I think the answer is getting to be pretty obvious at this point.
Move theaters need to step it up with more Dolby Theatres/Laser Imax theatres to compete with the quality of home devices these days.
has nothing to do with what you said, it's the quality of content, it's just pure rubbish.
Herd this might be the TV to buy for 2023 looks like I'm getting the 75 inch time to upscale in size always get 65 but finnaly time to make the jump up thanks for your review keep up the great work 👍
I truly believe the Q7 will be the sweet spot for me. I need information on it please ASAP!
Kind of wish they still had a mini LED TV in the $1000 or less range. But maybe the Q7's FALD will out class its Mini LED tv's of pervious years.
Bruh just spend a little more, I’m financing a $10k 98” when it comes out. Relax live a little
@@Necrohermit that's what TCL is hoping for. They're hoping the QM8 will be good enough for people to splurge. Nothing smaller than 65" doesn't help though
Hisense will have mini LED across their full lineup this year. I think you may find what you’re looking for with them
How is it at upscaling?
This 98” TCL 98QM850G will go nicely with my Nakamichi Dragon 11.4.6 Surround Sound system that I preordered and will be receiving by August
It really depends on the panel. I've had my LG OLED since 2019 with no issues and no burn in.
@@KrashTheMusician I bet you also have less than 10K hours on it.
Finally news on the new TCL 2023 sets! I want to see a video now on the Q7.
What are some comparable tvs?
Best Buy has the new TCL’s up on their site as “coming soon”, but the 98” is on there at $11,999.99.
But but I thought they said 9999
I saw that as well. Hoping it is adjusted once they actually have stock. Can’t imagine that they would sell for $2k over MSRP
Really interested to see how this compares to the Hisense U8K
Or better yet the UX
Yes I can't wait for the Main review on this one - competition is always great -
The link shows the 65' tv at Best buy for 1299 on sale? Is this the same tv? Also will this compare to my LG C9 65 oled.. or is the oled still better?
I was looking at getting a 77 C2 since the prices went down but now I’m just considering an 85 tcl
Wondering if the 3000 peak brightness has to do with the 3x5 they talked about coming later this year. 3000 peak brightness and 5000 dimming zones. Maybe a software update will be involved to unleash those things.
That being said, the 98” will be in my house this year for sure.
Hellyeah!
we already have, search TCL 85X11G , XDR 5000nits & 5184 dimming zones
Amazon just price dropped
@@KRODKROD7 nice. And Best Buy price matches. I may go get the 85qm850g this weekend
Projector companies are sweating right now lol I want this
when will you get the 98 inch
You literally made me but my Hisense Tv 4k 120hz For My Series X 🙏🏾🔥🙌🏾
i've been waiting for a couple good years before upgrading my current TCL 6 and it looks like this is gonna be the year i get the new one. great review, 🤯you didn't say if it's Roku or not; i do NOT want a google tv, 😡 so, it' must be Roku for me. 🙄🤭 oh yeah, subscribed! 😉
If it drops to under 2K, it will keep everything else on the shelf. I've seen the 75 version at Best buy & it is nice. I had my wife with me & she still wants G3 for Black Friday
The 98” is absolutely on my radar should I be able to fit it in the house.
Looking at the 85". The difference between the 85 and 98 is not too much size-wise. The price difference is huge. $7,000 more for an extra 13".
Q: How good is it against the best OLEDs in Sci-Fi battles with starfields as backgrounds? How many zones do we need that Mini-LED becomes an OLED competitor?
Can’t wait to see TCL Qm8 vs Hisense u8k
Any plans to start releasing videos in HDR? Every time you say "nits" or "brightness" a part of me wishes this video was in HDR. We need more HDR RUclips videos!
RUclips's HDR support isn't that great though. There is no point, it's like when guys do speaker reviews and then play ten minutes of recorded audio back on RUclips. It does no product justice and is a waste of time.
Where’s the full review?
I was just about to pull the trigger on a Qn90b. Is it worth waiting for this? It being brighter isn’t much of a factor for me since the qn is plenty bright. Which one is better??
Wait for reviews.
Looks great so far. Is a G3 worth the extra money or is the Tcl just as good.
Wow, that TV looks like it competes with OLED level, at least with how black the black level is, it really pops!
Will you review the C845?
The video provided by the manufacturers to show case their sets is always stunning. What's really important is how the set "looks" while watching Judge Judy or TMZ.
Ehhh not really. I see what you’re saying in terms of using actual use case scenarios, but you would still want to have high quality source footage to show off what the TV can do with the proper material. No one should buy this TV to watch cable or something from a low quality source.
& soap operas!!!!
Please compare this to the R646/6 series once it's out
I currently have a 55in C9 I want to go bigger for my bedroom.
Thanks for your advice I just got the 75 inch TCL QM
Any updates on how you like it?? Im thinking about one for xbox series x gaming but waiting on the 85" to go on sale.
......Hisense is saying, "Wait a minute, buddy!, hold your horses, not so fast"
Nice review keep up the good work
Will this TV come to UK?
Is this TV comparable to the C845 we have here in Europe?
No. The C845 has less dimming zones and lower peak brightness. The yet to be released C955 would most likely be comparable to the QM8.
@@rkeith7766 there is no C955, it's a C945
Even 945 is not same as this…
@@haukikannel It is. Q8=Q10H=C945
This looks good but i hope they don't cut corners with low bad processing and algorithm which will impact response time and gaming and other things
