Your review is worth the wait. I really appreciate the "colour" that your reviews provide, numbers and stats are great, but being able to put them into the greater context of an "experience" really helps with getting a sense of what owning a tv would be like.
I hope this is just a one off bad panel, the problem is that until a large number of these sets are sold and the buyers know what to look for then this issu leaves a nagging doubt that makes you think twice about buying one. Having worked in consumer electronic repairs all my life i have seen plenty of bad batches from leading brands to know never to buy a new product when it is first released. The early buyers are the quality control in regards common issues, wait and see how they find the set and if a firmware upgrade provides a fix, by then the price will start to fall, and you might get a better deal and avoid buying a lemon.
Got a U7 55” Hisense TV. It’s amazing. I got it only for $600 is so good. 1000 nits brightness, legit 120hz refresh rate, HDR and 4k. The thing about Hisense is their brand is known for the much cheaper U6 series TVs sold at Walmart and Target. The quality difference between U6 and U7 is night and day. Hisense high end TVs are a great value while the budget ones sold at Walmart and Target are meh at best.
I am guessing they are saying 1500 peak brightness because that's what you might be getting in Eco mode since that's what it comes with Default to meet energy efficiency requirements, plus you reviewers will highlight it saying it's exceeding expectations. It's great marketing strategy. 🤘
I'm also curious to see performance differeces between a 65" U8K which uses a VA panel and the 75" version which reportedly uses an IPS panel. Better viewing angles...contrast ratio?
I am regular viewer of this channel,..from India…most of the products reviewed in this channel doesn’t even see Indian markets…still I am here🙂🥲…Caleb does know what he is doing…that’s the only reason why I am here
How do you know this isn't actually a larger quality control issue and that some percentage of real customers aren't actually going to experience the same or similar issues? If a unit picked out to be sent for review is anomalous, it seems that the other thousands of units sent to regular people with no tools to verify color gamuts, peak brightness, black levels, etc. will likely be even more prone to errors. In any case, kudos for the transparency and I look forward to more insights from you.
A tech influencer dream really. Receiving a faulty unit to make 2 long videos to cash in. Wouldn't have been to much trouble cutting the unboxing part together with the "real" review in a week or two.
When it came to choosing between the U8H or U8K. I went with the U8H. Why? I feel there are more features on the U8H. The U8K feels more simplified. That's fine but I prefer a little more to work with in regards to settings. The super resolution may look nice but can over sharpen the image causing objects to have a slight halo around the edge. This was or still may be a feature on Sony and LG TV's but I never used it. The black level adjustment can be tricky. The U8H has something similar in the game settings and it's best to leave it at zero. Turning it up can wash out shadows. Turning it down can cause shadow crushing. Please understand these my opinions and mine alone. Always look forward to the next tech review. Keep up the amazing work. Hope you and your family are doing well.
I put mine at Max brightness on the Vivid setting. It will melt your eyes at night but looks great in my very bright living room. Also games on the Xbox Series X look fantastic!!!
I am sure you are busy, but I am really waiting for the final review. I recently purchased a 55U8K but am disappointed by the fall off in color off axis. Should I retire it and shop elsewhere or will your settings help minimize the ghosting of human faces above 45 degrees off axis? Thanks in advance for your great reviews.
I bought my 1st TCL 75 in in 2020, and after 1 year, it died. I have an insignia plasma that I bought back in 2012 that still works great. I will be buying the Hisense for my new hous3 and won't buy another TCL again.
Hi Caleb, love your reviews! ....are you testing the 75" as well? it has a different panel, and I would like to know if the blacks are as good as a VA panel (+viewing angles should be be better)
That’s my issue with Hisense. I am afraid that their QA is not at par with brands like Sony, LG, Samsung. It might be an excellent TV but if the chances of getting a lemon are much higher than other brands it negates any benefits.
The problem and knock on Hisense tv has always been there quality control for me. If you get a good set they are really good but if you don’t they have stager issues. While Caleb’s issues is an outlier it’s not the first time I’ve heard of weird issues with Hisense. Looking forward to the real deal review. Like to hear about gaming and upscaling more than anything.
Exactly. As to all TVs having issues, if you bought 100 Hisense top tier TVs and 100 Sony top tier TVs you better believe there would be 55 major issues with Hisense and 5 or 6 with Sony. Hisense uses extremely cheap materials (they have to, they undercut literally everyone else on price to sell their TVs) and they have poor qc. These are not mainstay brands, they don’t have the name recognition or reputation of household brands like Sony or Samsung or LG, for good reason. I have first hand experience with this, twice. I returned both POS TVs and spent a little more, voila. No issues.
@@BB-ed4om I agree with this to a certain point. I have had some issues with even Sony, Samsung and lg, but I agree with you that Hisense has far more failures than other brands I would even say that his end has far more issues than tcl. Having said that I think they have potential to make better tvs and have longevity if they iron out the issues
@@BB-ed4om I have had around 6 Hisense TV's in the last 12 years, only one failed and it was a $120 32". I currently have an H8G and it's been great for the last 3 or 4 years, can't remember exactly how long I've had it but it's got 1000s of hours on it because I leave it on all the time (for my dog when I'm gone). Sure there were firmware bugs initially but they were all worked out within 6 or so months. Build quality is not great I agree, it could certainly use more bracing on the VESA wall mount location.
Yep. I had a U8H 65" for less than 30 days. TV turned off one day by itself, and wouldn't turn back on. Even though I purchased a 4 year extended warranty via Amazon I sent the TV back. Really disappointing. Fwiw to anyone looking for a new TV. I wouldn't purchase another TV without a warranty.
QUESTION: The 75" version of the U8K uses an IPS panel, while the smaller models use a VA panel. I don't like VA panels, because they have poor viewing angles. I like IPS panels, because they have impressive viewing angles. Will your review of the U8K be taking this into consideration?
Which VA panel tvs have you had experience with? The difference shouldn’t be discernible in most situations. People on rtngs forums swore up and down they had va panel TVs and someone from the brand corrected them letting them know they definitely have ips panels. It’s not something the brands advertise or disclose so often review sites are incorrect, OR in many cases both panels are used for the same exact model and screen size depending on production run.
@@bamdet The "ADS" is a form of "IPS." But I appreciate you being specific about that. Unfortunately, the U8K wastes one of the two HDMI 2.1 inputs on the eArc channel. For some reason, only TCL seems to understand that concept of having the eArc channel on a separate input from the HDMI 2.1 inputs.
I watch a lot of your reviews and really think you do a great job, they are not only fact filled but fun and entertaining. I am really watching closely now because it is new TV time and the QM8’and maybe this Hisense are candidates. If you are looking for a model down I would consider the tcl q7 instead of the u7. Based on what I have seen from others it looks like it might be the way to go. Do your research though. Just picked up my q7 today
😂 Hey Calib, you know what Forest Gump said...Stuff Happens. What I'm liking beyond the Peak Brightness statement is the Basic Warranty Statement. I will also note that Hisense has seriously stepped up their whole game concerning product support and warranty support. And I look forward to the day they get serious about remotes. 😂 I have an older Hisense TV it was 2bd or 3rd tier for the day 3-4:yrs ago. Note: even then it's 600-650 Peak Brightness should for me have come with Sunglasses and some Sun Screen. In comparison to their newer models I'm sure whatever one I choose 6,7, or 8 will easily fill my bill. Now I've yet to see your review of the new TCL which I will next. I'm from the Keep It Simple Stupid category of folks just looking for a "good experience" from general viewing to HDR TV and CD Movies and Content Delivery via Wifi from the list of the Usual Suspects. I am not a Nit Nerd or Super Anal. I like my unit to play and display games well as I dabble in a few. Well mostly Borderlands. Though I will be broadening my retinue with Steam once again. And I might attempt broadcasting form my computer to help with Photo editing might... Beyond that my present model works well or so much so I could go another few years, but I want a "Better Remote" and I'd like a unit with finer detail. So, Thanks for All You Do...and Always enjoy your output.
I have the TCL 55C845. It is nowhere near OLED contrast but still managing to get to a good level and for the fraction of the cost, there is no comparison.

Hi Caleb, can't wait for your U8K review and U8K vs. QM8 comparison!!! Question, Hisense's webpage for the U8K shows it will be available in 85" and 100" sizes but I can't figure out when they will release. They seem to be seriously lagging behind the 55" through 75" sizes for availability. Any chance you can get some concrete details on the larger sizes release date(s) from Hisense? Thanks!
Appreciate the intro/review. Hisense are one of the few brands of TV we have here in South Africa. The LG and samsh1t tv's are here too...but too expensive! We have Hisense and some other...but Hisense is by far better in not only availability but also service. Thanks again.

Your review is worth the wait. I really appreciate the "colour" that your reviews provide, numbers and stats are great, but being able to put them into the greater context of an "experience" really helps with getting a sense of what owning a tv would be like.
I hope this is just a one off bad panel, the problem is that until a large number of these sets are sold
and the buyers know what to look for then this issu leaves a nagging doubt that makes you think twice
about buying one.
Having worked in consumer electronic repairs all my life i have seen plenty of bad batches from leading
brands to know never to buy a new product when it is first released.
The early buyers are the quality control in regards common issues, wait and see how they find the set
and if a firmware upgrade provides a fix, by then the price will start to fall, and you might get a better deal and avoid buying a lemon.
Can’t wait for your U7K full review 😊
It would be amazing if can get us an opinion on the QM8 vs U8K by July 11-12?
😂 ahhhh yes good ol prime days !!!
Fingers crossed 🤞🏼 that the replacement doesn’t eff up too!
Tbf people's eyes can't measure nits either way, won't have another tv next to it to compare, and won't have the tools to measure it anyways.
Don't need tools to see a TV is really bright compared to one that isn't.
I thought you shouldn’t lay a tv flat. Is it different with newer ones?
I bought a Hisense and it lasted two years before dying. Never again. Sticking with Sony from now on.
It's okay, Caleb. We'll wait on the U8K review a little longer.
I'm also curious to see performance differeces between a 65" U8K which uses a VA panel and the 75" version which reportedly uses an IPS panel. Better viewing angles...contrast ratio?
I am regular viewer of this channel,..from India…most of the products reviewed in this channel doesn’t even see Indian markets…still I am here🙂🥲…Caleb does know what he is doing…that’s the only reason why I am here
great review and comments. Thanks. Looking forward to your final review.
I was waiting for this video. Cheers man!
What shoes are you wearing,=? they look comfy and professional
Great Intro! please do a comparo between U8K and U8H.
I 🎉am excited for Hisense UX video !! 😊 hope it come out soon
I was holding out for the 75in u8k but went ahead on and got the 77in s90c. Can't believe I waited at all. The TV is unmatched🔥
Those flared ports are the left and right speakers. Caleb, you are the best product reviewer on RUclips.
id love to see another dual layer lcd from them
The problem and knock on Hisense tv has always been there quality control for me. If you get a good set they are really good but if you don’t they have stager issues. While Caleb’s issues is an outlier it’s not the first time I’ve heard of weird issues with Hisense.
Looking forward to the real deal review. Like to hear about gaming and upscaling more than anything.
All new TVs have bugs, Hisense is no better or worse.
Nope...uses an ADS Pro panel in 75"
@@bamdet The "ADS" is a form of "IPS." But I appreciate you being specific about that. Unfortunately, the U8K wastes one of the two HDMI 2.1 inputs on the eArc channel. For some reason, only TCL seems to understand that concept of having the eArc channel on a separate input from the HDMI 2.1 inputs.
Great! Initial thoughts would you recommend upgrading to this from the 2021 Hisense U8G?
I watch a lot of your reviews and really think you do a great job, they are not only fact filled but fun and entertaining.
I am really watching closely now because it is new TV time and the QM8’and maybe this Hisense are candidates. I really lust after the QM8 98 to replace my 75” TCL 825 but these HiSense ……
Caleb, you do a great job and RUclips is the perfect medium for you.
I bought the 85 Hisense UX and returned it within the week. I haven't been that let down from a purchase in a long time.
Why is that?
I would like to know what was wrong also, seems amazing on paper. No reply after a few days will indicate troll or bot post imo. The TV has received rave reviews for its picture and sound so far.
Me too. Sad to hear.
@@KuranghiI almost never get notified of replies, he probably missed it. Doesn’t have the hallmarks of a troll, it’s not inflammatory enough. Now… that being said, you have 48 hours to reply to my post otherwise you’re a troll bot 😂
@@brkbtjunkie I'm here I'm here! lol yeah I get you, doesn't definitely mean its a troll/bot post because they don't reply I'm just suspicious because its about an unrelated model from what the video is about. Thats terrible grammar, I hope you understand anyway haha.
A little over a month ago I picked up the 65" U8H paired it with a Vizio 5.1.4-Channel Elevate Sound bar and just love the setup.... Thanks
The elevate is a great sound bar. It's my first surround sound and boy o boy am I happy. I'm paired to a LG CX.
Finally I see a Hisense TV running on Google TV instead of VIDAA which seems to be extremely limited on apps compared to Android.
Which is the best TVs you would you recommend and how much would you think would cost just curious thank you
Can we get a U7 review? Wanna see if U8 is worth the extra price tag.
If you are looking for a model down I would consider the tcl q7 instead of the u7. Based on what I have seen from others it looks like it might be the way to go. Do your research though. Just picked up my q7 today
This will be Perfect for the new Playstation 5 Pro when it releases in late 2024
Great review. What is the latest hisense TV as I want to buy in Gambia. I went to the Indian shops in the Gambia and they told me A6 series is the latest which I did not believe.
Hi Caleb, when will you do a review on the Samsung QN900C 8k NEO QLED? Would be very interested in your view on that TV. Thanks
We bought a 70" I always wanted a 65"it's amazing how the prices have come down on these TVs over the years.
The entry-level heroes are now becoming the leaders in the market. That's what happens when companies care less about ripping their customers off and more about innovation/quality.
Thank you. I'll be back for that review.
Any news-update on when the Sony A95L comes out??? That's the BIG one!
Has any one ever asked if you could share the dimensions of the box? That would help to know what type of vehicle to pick it up. I could use it for this TV! Thanks for all the reviews.
When you do the U8K vs QM8 comparison, will you please spend some time on the AI upscaling on both TVs?
What's the price
Love to see calibrated u8k vs calibrated qm8!!!!!!!!
Love the review. Very detailed. Thanks 4 that. I have the 65" tv on my Xmas list. Thanks 4 sharing! See you on your replacement review video. Cheers! 😎😎😎😎
