Hey, Caleb. Greetings from Houston. I currently have a Samsung 85' QN90A. I want something bigger and better for a dark contro room. I love OLED, but the G4 83' or 98' are too expensive. The Hisense 100' U8K is back to $3,000, and the 98' Sony X90L went down to $5,000. Is it worth the $2,000 difference? I love my 77 Sony OLED X80J, so I know what Sony brings to the table in regards to processing and upscaling low content, but $2,000 is a lot. What would you recommend for size and price at these sizes ( 98-100). I don't do any gaming. I Just do streaming, OTA, and 4k UHD blu-ray movies. Thanks for your input.
I just bought this TV and it's absolutely beautiful I'm very picky and never thought I would own a hisense TV but I looked at this review and took a gamble... And it did not disappoint I mean wow!!!!! I've owned Samsung, Sony, but this TV stands tall with with the best of them. This TV is absolutely beautiful. Please go pick this TV up right now!!!!! You will not be disappointed. It's that good I can't get over it. Absolutely blows my mind of how this TV look with miner to no adjustments. It's stunning and the price you can't go wrong.
Hisense U8K 75 inch is a GREAT TV with a 𝐒𝐇𝐎𝐑𝐓 lifespan. Usually at about 10 months of ownership the TV will start having glitches that will increase over time. At about the 13-15 month mark is when the screen will go black or show lines. I have owned THREE of them (2 75inch U8K and 1 65inch U7k). Now Im back to LG. Hisense customer support is non existent
I just bought mine, U8N 65" model, I reviewed plenty of videos, yours especially, You make me choose it. I had my doubts about Hisense, but man, this tv is a bargan. I´m so pleased, I had a Samsung Q60A and wanted to upgrade, and I have no regrets. The image, the sound, the game mode, even with my PS4, I don´t own a PS5, even though my PS4 is not the PRO, the gaming is amazing. Netflix, MAX, Apple TV, Disney+, Amazon Prime, you name it. It´s amazing. I´m so pleased and happy with it, Thanks to your videos. It was worth every $$ I spent.
Caleb, love your reviews. The 75 inch is an ADS PRO panel and the smaller sizes are VA. PLEASE review the 75 inch and suggest settings. This is needed.
Yes measurements are sorely needed on the 75" to see if it can come even close on contrast and black level to the VA panel. If not then it kills the entire premise of this TV sadly
I bought the 75 inch and am absolutely blown away by the performance of the ADS Pro panel. I actually prefer the image to that of my Samsung QN90A which is a VA panel TV. I would like to see actual comparison to the U8K VA Panel lineup.
IMPORTANT QUESTION: It as been confirmed the 75" model of the U8K uses an IPS. This is excellent, because I absolutely do NOT like VA panels. VA panels have poor "Viewing Angles," but are traditionally known for having "blacks" that are superior to the "blacks" of an IPS TV or monitor. However, the Mini-LED technology makes it so the IPS TV also has excellent "Blacks" while still keeping the excellent "Viewing Angles." Can you please do a separate review of the 75" IPS model of the U8K?
That is awful news considering that IPS panels have, frankly, pathetic contrast ratios compared to VA panels. Which is the #1 aspect of image quality. To try and pass that off as "excellent" due to your personal bias is weird since this has been proven time and time again by measurements. There's no benefit to IPS unless you're intentionally sitting way off to the side, and why would any discerning viewer choose that? Hopefully Caleb, or a place like Rtings is able to measure a 75" and compare black level and contrast ratio to one of their 65" offerings or else this years version is unfortunately a pass...
@@bradenmcadam5001 In the "Past" you may have been partially correct about the poor contrast ratios of IPS panels. But that was "before" IPS panels started using Mini-LED technology. Any TV or Monitor using Mini LED technology has an excellent Contrast Ratio. This has been confirmed by looking at the specifications of the 75" IPS model of the U8K. You can see the Contrast Ratio of the 75" mode is not as good as the smaller models that use a VA panel; however, the Contrast Ratio of the 75" IPS model are still very impressive - far superior to IPS models that do not use Mini-LED technology. I recently had a computer monitor break on me. So, I bought one from Acer that was a VA panel. When I was sitting directly in front of this 24" model, the "blacks" and the "colors" looked excellent. But even if my head was slightly - just a few inches - to the left or right of the center of the monitor, the "blues" started to turn "aqua green" on my desktop. The "blacks" remained "black," but the "colors" didn't remain the "same color." This is when I truly learned how TERRIBLE the "Viewing Angles" of a VA Panel were. I then bought another monitor, but the specs didn't say what type of monitor it was. I hooked it up and learned it was a VA monitor. Again, the "Viewing Angles" were so severely awful that if my head was literally just a couple inches off to the left or right, the colors seen on screen changed. I then bought a "cheap" Element IPS Monitor. The Viewing Angles were EXCELLENT. Even when I looked very far from the sides, the "colors" remained accurate. The "blacks" were also not as bad as "pictures" taken from a top-down angle makes the "blacks" seem. The "blacks" were fine - even when I watch movies in mp4 format. This "cheap IPS" Monitor uses "Direct Lit" technology, and yet still has pretty good "blacks." The "premium" IPS technology using "Mini-LED technology" produces EXCELLENT "blacks."
@@michaelzoran which specifications are you looking at to confirm the 75" U8K with IPS panel has excellent contrast? I've yet to see any measurements on this model from a reputable reviewer, if they exist I'd be interested as I had been ready to buy this model before finding out about the panel. Yes, IPS panels with Mini LED will have better contrast than IPS panels without Mini LED. That's not exactly a revelation, and considering that IPS panels have historically been basically unwatchable for any serious type of viewing - and that frankly isn't saying much. It's a very low bar to clear. The question is how do these IPS panels compare to their VA counterparts, can they come even close to giving the same experience. If not then it defeats the purpose of owning one.
@michaelzoran that’s a very good point. but the 75” and higher actually uses ADS panel… which is a more advanced version of IPS panels. ADS or Advanced Plane-to-Line Switching: The infrastructure of the ADS panel is the same as PLS or Plane-to-Line Switching. In this, the liquid crystals lie along the same plane always, like IPS displays. ADS is different from IPS because it uses a longitudinal electric field and a transverse electric field for parallel liquid crystal movement.
I just bought the 55" U8K and once you get thing thing dialed in, it's damned impressive. Super bright, minimal blooming and black crush. Gaming is awesome! Using a PC with a Radeon RX 7900XT. Tekken 8's "electric attacks" are so bright in HDR it looks like they're coming out the screen! If you're looking for a TV and OLED is out of the question, this is the TV for you. Highly recommended.
I’m on the fence about the 55” u7k or 55” u8k. Want to buy today but the u8k is retail at 800$ Best Buy and u7k isn’t much better at $30 off sale price for 600$. Do you recall how much you paid at the time for yours and maybe what you saw the u7k for at the time? Thanks!!
Personally Caleb, I can't wait for the head to head comparison. Both these TVs are definitely making a mark for being budget TVs. Pretty soon if the three big brands don't start stepping up their game, their LED TVs are going to die out.. if they could just nail the processing, I really think Hisense and TCL will take the top spot pretty soon.
TCL is far behind Hisense in image processing. Hisense is the bigger threat. Even so, I much prefer Sony and Samsung to Hisense for various reasons (mostly image processing). The issue that I run into with both Hisense and TCL is that I see how many of their TVs come back to the store. The open box section at Best Buy typically has a ton of "cheap" TVs. Samsung isn't as well represented now that the TU7000 is gone, but Hisense and TCL are.
I have heard (although no personal hands on experience with either the TCL or the Hisense) that the picture quality is better on the TCL but the image processing is better on the Hisense. Hopefully that will be covered in Caleb’s comparison video!
@@LeezahB It is difficult to compare the TVs in the show room as they are set to VIVID mode, which is wildly inaccurate. Hisense's vivid mode is so much less accurate than TCL's. Based on that alone I prefer TCL. I'm also curious about the OS. From what I'm seeing, it looks like both brands are sticking with GoogleTV for their higher end TVs. That makes sense as GoogleTV typically allows for more control.
@@movie_av_impulse I may end up buying a Hisense TV for the living room in my new house due to the brightness. The thing is, most of what is watched there is news, cooking shows, and true crime shows. Movie watching takes place elsewhere, and that is where my Sony TV will be.
I'd honestly have the U8K tied with QM8 but the washed out DV is something that needs to be addressed before I'd consider it (yes I know, I don't personally watch in DV but most of you do!)
Ok you've convinced me to get this TV and give Hisense a chance. In a world dominated by Samsung and LG, it's nice to see that a smaller, lesser known brand can outperform them at a lower price. Thanks for your awesome and detailed review on both this and the U7K
So is Hisense ever going to release the 85” of the U8K? Should I just get the TCL QM8 in 85”? Just sucks waiting 7months for its release then bam they don’t release it after all🤦🏻♂️
FYI I work a PT job selling TVs for a major brand on the weekends at Best Buy. Model numbers like this drive me crazy. Customers often confuse the resolution or size with the model number. A Samsung Q60C becomes a 60" TV in their minds. Same thing with the Sony X85K (and others) or LG QNED 80...
Agreed, I do the same sort of job as you but it really makes no sense to think like this, its just a coincidence, Hisense skipped "I" due vagueness of the letter vs the number 1 + Apple and J because Sony used it in 2020. Microsoft called the 2nd Xbox the Xbox 360 because Sony was bringing out the PS3 and it would make them seem "outdated" otherwise. I tend to avoid selling TVs to people that can't understand the reasoning for things like this after about a minute of explanation, because imagine if they have problems or don't understand things they are doing wrong/context for content quality, you'll never win with idiots like that lol. If I say "oh no thats just the name of the TV, 8 means a rough guide to the quality of the picture usually, ie it starts with 6 and 9 is usually the best, the K is the letter they use for this years models, last year they used H and before that G", then explain the I and J thing if they ask about the skipped letters and if they keep bringing it up for 10 minutes after that I'm outta there haha. Don't get me wrong, a part of my job I love is helping people demystify the jargon and effectively say "look I'm the nerd here, don't worry about all this crap, just trust me that this is the best product for you and here are visual and aural reasons to prove that", but there's a limit to explaining things sometimes and I'll just take the loss and put them back onto whatever they came in for (usually the cheapest TV available in that size) and send them on their merry way.
@@Kuranghi OMG, there are some customers you will never get through to with the technical... But if they can't figure out the model numbers after a simple explanation then they are lost for good. Some folks just care about size, some care about brand, some care about OS. The hardest thing I generally come across is explaining the difference between Roku, GoogleTV, FireTV, etc.
I am a OLED guy but I want a 65 inch and they are around the 2 grand mark and rarely in stock. The U8H hisense at 65 inch is selling for 900 bucks. My old TV is a 2015, 1080p OLED. I hear this TV is the closest LCD to have OLED blacks. Would you buy this ? I need 4K, Good contrast ( OLED like ), response times for gaming, good for streaming content and gaming. Let me know if this is the best LCD LED and the size is also something that interests me.
This tv looks QD-OLED like in person. It’s more close to S95C once tweaked (only takes like 5 seconds). I played with the 75” remote in store. It’s OLED like but with more vibrant colors. Yeah I came off from $4000 TV HD prior. Was considering SONY, Samsung first. Went to Bestbuy, the $2000 SONY Samsung looked like Dog poo. (Once u get $4000 TVs even not 4k, u see the Clearly BAD stuff all over from SONY/LG). Went back to do research more. Finally got Hisense. Could NOT have been happier. I got 2nd panel. U have to kinda see it to believe it. Cuz all the Bestbuy U8K reviews r all saying its OLED like Incky black n vibrant. :P
Ps…since I have 2 Hisense Flagshp panels $2400 later, walk into my brother in law’s house. His SONY $3000 something 2014 2015 funny tv (with those large speakers built in around d tv frame) d Visual of video games look like utterly PULLED OUT OF dog bum. Like I am so USED to 4k Crisp , 2 layer tv Hisense QLEDs , vivid, vibrant, Crisp but butter fluid. I have checked the u8k in store, so nice.
@@birdtj82 Yea I like OLED best for picture but last week I was watching those Wrestling halloween havoc ppv's that were on my iptv all day with the bars. I had the TV on that channel for 8 hours and now when you switch inputs, instead of ghosting that goes away, this time if you look good enough you can see the black bars are actually burned in. I understand that the OLED's today are much better but my iptv service has many movie channels and show channels with a bright yellow logo in the same spot. So I wanna get a 65 inch LED LCD 65 for my stuff now. Im still gonna keep the OLED in a basement for summer watching, 3d blu rays or gaming if I wanna cool down since the TV still is good, just need to be more careful like stretch any black bars. Im very interested in 2 TV's, The hisense U8K has 1000 dimming zones but goes for 1400 bucks which is pretty steep, but 500 bucks cheaper will get me a 65 inch U8H 900. I think I should go for the U8H since its got pretty inky blacks at that rate and the response time is actually faster than the U8K at 4ms vs 6 ms. There are other features that have the U8K beat the U8H but 500 bucks for tiny bit better contrast does not make sense. Remember average LED TV's 7 years ago would cost 4 grand for a 65 inch. To get it at 900 and a high end one with this contrast level is a steal. 512 dimming zones is a lot. 7 years ago the full array TV's at a high price would only have 32 zones.
One big reason I would pick the TCL QM8 over this is because they put EARC in one of the HDMI 2.1 ports. If you’re not going to go full bandwidth across all of the inputs, at least separate that!
@@CarsandCatsto be fair alot of tv makers always and maybe still do….only have 2 hdmi 2.1 ports, one being EARC…so all tv makers should change that not just Hisense, unless the model has all 4 ports in 2.1
@@CarsandCats yea but thats my point, tvs that typically only did two 2.1 always made one of them earc until this year. Does Sony even with A95k do earc on their other two non 2.1 ports? Doesnt seem to be the case, QM8 is being “revolutionary” with something that all tvs should have been doin the last few yrs anyways lol so kudos to them. But all im sayin is Hisense isnt the only one still doin it the other way, cant single them out… Fyi i see alot of hype on QM8 in general but people only focus on what they do well, there is alot they dont do well that Hisense beats them at too
Interested to see if you do that side comparison with the TCL Q7 series as well. My tiny apartment living room space doesn't comfortably accomodate anything larger than a 55", plus the sale price on the Q7 55" was too good to pass up on my limited budget. So far I'm really impressed with what it offers for a QLED without mini-LED.
The TCL Q7 is a great budget tv...It does alot of things well. It doesn't get that bright but does have a great picture after calibration. Gaming its picture is great with good highlights and colors...If Calibrated you will love this TV for its price to performance.
6:30 Being an amateur photographer, I don't understand why professional TV calibrators set color mode to warm-anything to do a white balance and color calibration. Shouldn't you use standard mode to get 6500K? The warm and cool modes are for making the picture warmer or cooler than normal, like, in this case, 3400K for warm 1, 5000K for warm 2, and 9000K for cool. It's like poor man's color grading.
Caleb - you mentioned this being the best bang for your buck tv. However, I would think the U7K has to be offering a pretty solid value proposition as well. Thoughts on a video that really addresses how much more pop you get from the U7K to U8K upgrade?
I have the u7. The only difference is u8 has more brightness. But other than that u7 has all the bells and whistles. I picked it up for $900 CAD. TAX INCLUDED
@@44pakattack I'm looking at 85 inch 85U7H for $2,463.39 here in Canada that's with tax included in the extended warranty +2 years I have qet to pull the trigger though because I got to make a cardboard mock-up of the panel size to see if it'll fit upstairs 😂👌
How would you compare this with a Samsung QN90B? The only downside seems to be the viewing angle. The difference is about $200 bucks for me (open box Samsung). Thoughts?
@@44pakattack no other differences like HDMI inputs? I'm after something for movies and gaming primarily. Kids TV shows can be watched on anything, but I'm fussy about my movies, and we all console game.
Great review as always. Would like to know if Digital Trends does long term reviews? Longevity for this brand is a concern for me although I have bought high end Samsungs in the past that have failed after 3 or 4 years…
Thx for adding this! Could you plz always add off axis color accuracy to your reviews? If you have to be at exactly perpendicular to the screen surface, that doesn't cover most people's viewing angle. The U8H is notorious for bad off axis accuracy and is a drag and frustrating that nobody was reporting on that in any review I saw.
Caleb, thank you very much for an insightful review of the U8K. Reviews tracking Hisense's progress were about all I had to go on when considering purchasing a 85UX sight unseen (but then again, there were no X95L's available to see either). I wanted to mention that like you, I also tried switching to Warm2, but found it presented a very cool image - and the difference was not subtle. Overall I've been very pleased my purchase. The images are so detailed that I think that micro contrast might be the best of any LED set. Add to that a large dynamic range with inky blacks and a strong 3D aspect. Despite the limited availability, I hope that someday you will be able to review this advanced tech. Thanks again.
This TV has terrible blacks and not inky at all. They only show you 4k demo's and gaming so the TV appears to be better than it is. I recently purchased this TV and then returned it immediately because of how bad it is.. nothing about it was good.
@@Ozjoker420. Are we talking about the same model ? The 85UX has over 5,000 dimming zones and a 150,000:1 contrast ratio. Even outer space scenes are thrilling to this former OLED G series owner. As far as I know it only comes in 85 inches. Not questioning your experience, it just doesn't align with what I've been seeing.

I just bought this TV in the 55 inch, thanks for the great video, along with the Bose Soundbar 600. I am wondering if you provide advice on how to set up both of these items with Apple TV (3rd Generation). U8K 55 - HDMI 3 - Enhanced HDMI (designated for eARC) HDMI 4 - Enhanced HDMI Bose Soundbar 600 - Only 1 HDMI port and its eARC supported. To me, something seems off, but not exactly sure.
I'd love to see a comparison between the QM8...but at 75"! The U8K has an ADSPro Panel at 75" whereas my QM8 at 75" uses VA. Sure Viewing is affected but Contrast on the QM8 is much better, so you can't say which TV is better unless you go across the size spectrum. At 65" its more apples to apples but not at the 75". This is what annoyed me about Hisense and kept me away from the U8K
@@oldmanhendo7183 I returned the QM8 for the 75" U8K. The QM8 wasn't bad, actually pretty good...but the U8K was an overall better TV and the 75" ADSPro doesn't affect image as much as I thought. It looks great!
Have you experienced any glitching on your U8K when scrolling through menus, or when commercials cut into RUclips videos? My screen looks like it has cloudy areas when the screen goes blank on those glitches, but it doesn't seem to affect the picture when watching shows/videos.
I think it is safe to say they “know who you are”. And by contacting them on an issue, it feels like it either got calibrated or a golden sample was handpicked. I think the pre-calibration picture accuracy tests don’t mean much unless the sample is actually from the retail.
"I don't think there is a better price to performance ratio on the market right now..." I picked up the 75" Q7 for $1k. I think this would be in contention. I'd be curious your thoughts on this. Even heavily discounted, the 75" U8K is still $600 more.
Today its about 400 bucks more. Great point. I debated quite a bit, but I went ahead with the U8k 75 inch over the Q7. Anything you would change about the Q7?
@@paulcarlin5181 Not much. I love pretty much everything about it. The Google Smart platform is the best imo. Picture, contrast, brightness, blooming control, motion all very good. Maybe upscaling of lower quality content like 480p is the only thing that isn't the best if I was looking for any flaws, but most content I watch is 720 or higher.
I am looking at upgrading my current LG Nano 4K to a newer 4K tv. It was a toss up between the QM8 and the U8K. After this review what really sold the U8K for me was the ATSC 3.0 tuner where the QM8 is still only using an ATSC 1.0 tuner. I watch quite a bit of OTA tv and am in a major market where the big stations are all NextGen TV. So if I'm going to upgrade now I feel it's better to go ahead and get the ATSC 3.0 tuner.

This channel is becoming my go to place for TV reviews, super in depth and also excellent at explaining those somewhat subjective issues or things that matter but don't really matter that much. Caleb do you have a recommended low budget TV for watching sports outdoors?
Good day Caleb, thanks for all of the detailed reviews that you conduct and provide. My 80yr old mom is wanting and new TV. We are looking at the 55” size. She does not stream, has a cable box won’t budge from it. Looking at the mini LED status and price range. What would be your recommendation for this cable box application. Want to get her a good TV, but not QLED $$$.
Kinda sounds like the Hisense is better. I chose the Hisense 75 inch U8k because of the better upscaling capabilities. We like watching movies from the 80's and 90's along with the new stuff.
Picked up the 55" model this week. It really looks great right out of the box. I'm shocked at how good HD content looks..I have been using my Roku HD, and everything is upscaling very well. I'm using Theater Day and Theater Night modes. Theater Night is good at minimizing the soap opera effect , while still giving you all the detail.
Bought the Samsung q80c today and I am so unimpressed. I'm wanting to take it back and get this one. Do you know how this u8 compares to the Samsung q80c
I've been looking at both the U8K AND U7K, 65". Used for streaming, OTA and 4K blu-ray. I don't do any gaming and wouldn't be hooking up any external audio components. I know the U8K is a step up in many respects, including its sound, but for the viewing I do, is it worth the extra $$$, or is the U7K perfectly compatible for those needs? Thank you!
Apparently, the blue light filter has been toggled on somehow. Maybe caused by a glitch after an update. Anyways, turned it off again and the full brightness came back again.
Great review! I currently have a LG - 86" Class NanoCell 90 Series LED 4K UHD in my dedicated home theater, I really like it. Hello great review. I have a ?. I am going to buy a u8k this week. My couch is between 9'-10' from where the tv will be mounted. This tv gets very bright. I cant decide if I should buy the 65" or 75". I Have seen both in-store and stood from the distance I told you. Do you think the 75" would be to big and I shoud go with the 65" . If I buy the 65" I will have $500.00 for a sound bar. Thank you for your help.
Did you notice any audio sync issues with the Arc/eArc? I have a U7G that would not play nice with a TCL Dolby Atmos soundbar. I returned that soundbar and got a 5.1 soundbar and used an optical cable. (yes, I saw your rant about this a few days ago).
1:37 Regarding skipping two letters from U8H to U8K, the Chinese tend to skip the numbers 9and 10 or their equivalent letters "i" & "j" because of their pronunciations in Chinese. The number 9 which pronounced 㞗 (Qiú) = (penis). "i" is also avoided because it is pronounced "yi", which sounds similar to the word "一", which means "one". In Chinese numerology, the number 1 is considered to be a yang number, which is associated with loneliness and isolation. The number 10 is pronounced "shí", which sounds similar to the word "死", it means "death". This is an unlucky number in Chinese culture, and is often avoided. As a result of these pronunciations, the numbers 9, 10, i, and j are often avoided (like other numbers also like #4) in Chinese culture. This can be seen in a number of different ways, such as: * Buildings in China often do not have a 10th floor. * Some Chinese elevators do not have buttons for the 9th or 10th floors. * Chinese people may avoid using the numbers 9, 10, i, or j in their names or businesses. Finally, that's only my guess, and I'm waiting for someone Chinese or from Hisense HQ to confirm that. Nice video as always Caleb!
I’ve been obsessed with OLED these past few years because I’m going to have to bite the bullet and replace my very old Sony KDL-52XBR4 and the amount of TV you can get for the price in this particular model kind of makes me want this
HEY,,,,if u like OLED> this tv will look like OLED. I am not exaggerating. When d First official --tv lottery was launched in 2020. I bought that Hisense TV lottery during covid. Upon first turning on (i had lights shut off) knowing its very utter black, i was gonna try to see how dark it is. Upon turning it on, my husband kept saying” its like its off” then white logo appeared in the mid tv, clean snappy. It looked like rest tv still turned off. Lol. I was so confused if the tv was ON or OFF i could NOT tell, but I know it must be on cuz the mid of tv there is an icon of some sort. N rest just pitch black lol 😅😅😅😅😅 Yeah if u like OLED u will like the Last year U8H or this year U8K, they both PITCH Black, beautiful panel. I was shocked seeing demo in store. 😊
Is the input lag and image processing the same in game mode ? I mean is local dimming as effective in game mode ? What about colour accuracy in game mode HDR ?
Can anyone confirm for me that the bigger the screen the more local dimming zones it has ? I am deciding between a 55 or 65 here and the amount of dimming zones is a deal breaker for me
Okay,,,,GET the 65” seriously. Like NO fail. Cuz if u get the 55” u will love it too much, n actually get all mad that like u didnt get the 65” n next yr had to run to store to get ANOTHER Hisense. Lol. 😂 happened to me n a few other ppl lol . They always have WAY more local dimming on 65” than 55”. N the 65” is like SO good.
i really dislike how makers started putting the legs at the end of the panels instead of keeping with a center pedestal. I'm sure they are angling at owners wall mounting their TVs but for some of us wall mounting is not an option and we would like something that looks more aesthetically pleasing than a couple of things that look like an afterthought. Who makes a good sturdy aftermarket pedestal stand for a 65" or 75" panel?
I remember in either your U8H review or one of your comparison videos about it you mentioned the H had some motion artifacts/ghosting or something like that. Is that still present on the U8K?
Thanks for mentioning off angle performance! Lots of reviewers don’t, but it’s especially important for a TV that many of us are going to get specifically for it’s brightroom sports performance
I have read that the off angle doesn't affect the 75 inch because of the different panel used, but you lose some of the blacks. I am fine with that, I am sure the black levels are much better on the 75 inch u8k that I just ordered compared to my bought in 2018, made in 2017 Sony.
i just got 55 inch u8k and the viewing angle is horrible. at 6 feet, at the recommended 40% field of view recommended by THX, I don't like the viewing angle and VRR with HDR does not work. Contacting support. Not sure if I got a bad unit. THe viewing ange straight on is bad! Good news is The motion in games is 10x better without any ghosting compared to my recently returned TCL Q7.
@@FrostyBud777 I have the exact same TV and yeah I agree that the viewing angle is terrible. It’s starts skewing pretty bad around just 30 degrees. In retrospect I wish I’d sprung for either the X93L or an A75L. The U8K is a fantastic TV for watching movies straight on, but I have a wide viewing setup so it’s not the best for watching sports with more than 3-4 guests.
@@Derek.Mitchell I tried the TCL q7, TERRIBLE inverse ghosting. Returned yesterday. It was perfect in EVERY OTHE WAY. but couldn't live with inverse ghosting. I dont mind normal ghosting /motion blure but inverse ghosting causes me eye damage and angry feelings. I told tcl support they need to let users change the over drive setitngs. Becuase of inverse ghosting, The TCL VRR is worthless. I just tried all day to get the Hisens u8k good but couldnt, it is shit. AMD freesync premium is marketed but it doesnt even work. HDR turns off when VRR is turned on, and when you turn VRR off, tv blacks out on and off till it's restarted, total trash NOW I AM DONE! BOTH 400 AND 600 DOLALR TVS THE VRR "HIGH REFRESH RATE" LOOKS LIKE SHIT OR BAD VEIWING ANGLE. I am going to get the 550 dollar LG 48inch OLED at best buy for 550 dollars, I am giving up 120/144 hz and VRR but like i siad, both are total shit and worthless. I thought about it all day and I would rather Play at 60 fps with BEAUTIFUL OLED, EXTREMELY FAST REPSONSE TIMES DUE TO OLED PANEL, and PERFECT viewing angle due to oled than play with horrible ashed out sides due to poor viewing angle or severe inverse ghosting. I am DONE!!!! Mom said I should get an oled like here but wanted to get a tv with VRR and 120/144 hz but forget it. Both tv's from both companies are total trash . The TCL was perfect for watcing tv and 10x better than the crappy hisense u8k viewing angle. RTINGs .com is smoking some extremely phsyctoci stuff. THey are so wrong in many ways I have found. Talking about image accuracy but it looks like shit. I wanted to get a cheap tv for like 200-250 for a 55in to watch movies but when I hooked up my dad's old 55 inch to my pc, I knew I could never go back to a 32 inch monitor again. The larger size is INFINITELY more immersive. I feel like i have never watched a movie or played a game before , and only started once I played on a 55 inch. I am giving up some size for a 48 inch oled and losing the VRR high refresh rate, but gaining perfect oled frames at 60 fps. I would rather have quality over quantity it seems. Much better to game ultra settings, 4K 60 fps , with PERFECT responds times, color, blacks and viewing angle, than high settings, fsr3 frame gen, and horrible viewing angles and inverse ghosting. Ty for replying, your comment sealed the deal. I will go get the LG a2 oled on sale at best buy for 550 tomorrow.

We have the u8k coming out soon in Australia but our model has a sound bar at the bottom of the TV would this be the same TV just with a sound bar or a different TV with the same model number?
Yes. LOOK UP the U8KQ.. U prob has the UK model. I hv seen the UK model with the sound bar hanging under. SOOOO NICE. D pic is utter black, bright vibrant . There some Italian guy showing off his EU version of U8K. It sounds like d one u have. It’s going to be a VA panel. MOST ppl in EU dont know that Hisense have BETTER sounds than MOST TVs. Since they are NOT as recognized for its UPGRADED SOUNDS like they already do in USA. They prob upgraded their Design in EU to make ppl aware that they have WAY better sound, like 8 speakers …otherwise ppl will OVER look that. I would. I own 2 Hisense. D MOST amazing sound, fluid/glossy,immersive sound. A lot of cheaper TVs just Buzzing. The EU n AUS model i assume trying to make more statement, to make it elite, 😊but same panel same technology . :)
I looked up the Hisense U8K on Amazon and realized it doesn't offer an 85" model. 85" is what I'm shopping for, so this model drops off my list of possible options. 🤷♂️ That puts the TCL QM8 as my top choice right now.
Over at AVS forums, we have confirmed that the QM8 crushes blacks. And it's not a little, either. So those near-OLED black levels come at a cost. And for us gamers, that black crush makes it difficult to recommend.
What would be better for games? 65 inch or 75 inch U8K? Not sure if IPS would be better or not for games.. I had problems in the past with VA panels and ghosting with monitors.
@@jakewhite215 Well, I got pretty excited about this review until I checked the specs and realized that when you connect EARC, you LOSE one of the two 120hz HDMI ports! This means you CANNOT have a PS5 and a Series X connected at 120hz at the same time. Soooo close. Sigh. So, the only way to have them both connected at 120hz is to run them through an 8k receiver which adds about $1000 to the total cost. I am really surprised that Caleb didn't mention the EARC problem.
Amazing black level performance and contrast! Looking forward to comparison with TCL QM8! Wonder which has better processing speed and motion handling!
It's actually terrible.. I returned this TV because it's so bad.. they only show u mostly 4k demo's or gaming to show the TV is "better" than it actually is... trust me, even my wife said it looks like watching TV on an old school 90's TV, the picture quality is weird, not anything good at all.
Neither the U8K or the QM8 did well on motion blur on NFL uploaded RUclips 1080p content I saw in a store. My 5 year old Sony was miles better. The QM8 looked too bright on the store demo, the U8K looked better overall IMO.
I have an elderly mother that doesn't want to deal with endless menus, she has a hard time seeing so she can't see buttons very well on the remote either, so the question is: Does this TV turn on to a specific channel or does it turn on to a home screen and from there you have to select live tv to get to your antenna channels. I absolutely DO NOT want the home screen option. My current TV turns on to just a tv channel right away but it is getting old and I want to get a newer TV. I am trying to avoid a TV that will frustrate my mother if it has some stupid home screen that you have to constantly navigate from.
YOU ARE THE BEST Caleb - What TV you can recommend to use as a PC Monitor for work and gaming 4K/ 120Hz GSync and/or Freesync or more and around 48"-55" HIGHEST PPI also GLOSSY also good brightness, contrast and so on ! BUT NOT KILLER EXPENSIVE and not necesarly 2023 Model. Thanks 💗
Hi Caleb. I love your reviews (and laugh when I see the blocked out **** logo)! I hope that you can add the Sony X93L and maybe the X90L to the mix when you compare the U8K and QM8. I'm in the market for a new TV and these are at the top of my list considering performance and budget. Motion, upscaling and low bit rate handling are as important to me as brightness. The S90C may be in the mix too but only if the deals get very good by Black Friday. Thanks for all the great info, I really appreciate it and look forward to the upcoming comparisons!
Absolutely U8K or QM8. U can save that MOney for Sony , get a 4-5 extra plan . So if they break down like 3rd 4th 5th year they run out of panels to swab, or parts to fix. Hey just give u a brand new version of Flagship panel. :):) 😊 i mean Bestbuy.

Hi, which one would you choose between u8k and u7n?

And it did not disappoint I mean wow!!!!! I've owned Samsung, Sony, but this TV stands tall with with the best of them. This TV is absolutely beautiful. Please go pick this TV up right now!!!!! You will not be disappointed. It's that good I can't get over it. Absolutely blows my mind of how this TV look with miner to no adjustments. It's stunning and the price you can't go wrong.
Do you have a link to where you purchased it? Please.

Yes, Caleb, please comment/review on the 75 inch version
Do you know if this holds true for the UK7?
Yes measurements are sorely needed on the 75" to see if it can come even close on contrast and black level to the VA panel. If not then it kills the entire premise of this TV sadly
Yesssss is the 75" a good buy or not?
@@bradenmcadam5001shut up. The contrast on these tvs are amazing now. U don't need blown out va panels which lose picture quality
@michaelzoran that’s a very good point. but the 75” and higher actually uses ADS panel… which is a more advanced version of IPS panels.
ADS or Advanced Plane-to-Line Switching:
The infrastructure of the ADS panel is the same as PLS or Plane-to-Line Switching. In this, the liquid crystals lie along the same plane always, like IPS displays.
ADS is different from IPS because it uses a longitudinal electric field and a transverse electric field for parallel liquid crystal movement.
Just watched the original U8K review minutes ago! Great timing!!!
Caleb, Thanks for discussing upscaling. Really helps those of us on the fence deciding between QM8 & U8K
Thanks!!
When is the video on the comparison between this and the QM8 coming out? The ultimate video would be those two plus the X93L
@@randallsmith2521 I hear you I'm looking into buying a Sony again to have the best of both worlds 😂...

The hardest thing I generally come across is explaining the difference between Roku, GoogleTV, FireTV, etc.

better but my iptv service has many movie channels and show channels with a bright yellow logo in the same spot. So I wanna get a 65

has 1000 dimming zones but goes for 1400 bucks which is pretty steep, but 500 bucks cheaper will get me a 65 inch U8H 900. I think I should
go for the U8H since its got pretty inky blacks at that rate and the response time is actually faster than the U8K at 4ms vs 6 ms. There are other
features that have the U8K beat the U8H but 500 bucks for tiny bit better contrast does not make sense. Remember average LED TV's 7 years
ago would cost 4 grand for a 65 inch. To get it at 900 and a high end one with this contrast level is a steal. 512 dimming zones is a lot. 7 years
ago the full array TV's at a high price would only have 32 zones.
One big reason I would pick the TCL QM8 over this is because they put EARC in one of the HDMI 2.1 ports. If you’re not going to go full bandwidth across all of the inputs, at least separate that!

That's why I don't buy Samsung anymore

I just bought this TV in the 55 inch, thanks for the great video, along with the Bose Soundbar 600. I am wondering if you provide advice on how to set up both of these items with Apple TV (3rd Generation).
U8K 55 - HDMI 3 - Enhanced HDMI (designated for eARC)
HDMI 4 - Enhanced HDMI
Bose Soundbar 600 - Only 1 HDMI port and its eARC supported.
Right now I have it setup like this and was wondering if this is correct?
Apple TV -> HDMI 4
Bose soundbar 600 -> HDMI 3 (eARC)
I typically watch TV on HDMI 4 to use Apple TV and was wondering if this the right way to set this up and get the most out of the soundbar and TV. To me, something seems off, but not exactly sure.
Watching this on my H9G I picked up a couple years ago after you reviewed it. Definitely looking to get the U8K next month for my new house!
Hi Caleb, great review, but you forgot to test the color gamut of DCI-P3 and BT-2020 😢
D UK, AUS models are all VA for 75” n 85”….ahhhhh lol. I am jelly over those. 😅
@user-ji7tx2oy9y how do you like your QM8? I’ve always been a bit skeptical of TCL

I think the pre-calibration picture accuracy tests don’t mean much unless the sample is actually from the retail.
super great man/i ordered one/cool man/i will keep watching /thanks much

I picked up the 75" Q7 for $1k.
Can you give us a calibration setting for SDR TV shows on cable for the Hisense U8K Caleb?
I am looking at upgrading my current LG Nano 4K to a newer 4K tv. It was a toss up between the QM8 and the U8K. After this review what really sold the U8K for me was the ATSC 3.0 tuner where the QM8 is still only using an ATSC 1.0 tuner. I watch quite a bit of OTA tv and am in a major market where the big stations are all NextGen TV. So if I'm going to upgrade now I feel it's better to go ahead and get the ATSC 3.0 tuner.
I hope you only intend on using one HMDI 2.1 port because that's all the Hisense offers after using the other one for EARC.

Would you but the u8k in 2024 for 1079 or the u7n for similar price?
I teach Gen-Z, so I legitimately laughed out loud when you said, "Golf-Dad Drip". Also, stoked for this review!
Good question
I've been looking at both the U8K AND U7K, 65". Used for streaming, OTA and 4K blu-ray. I don't do any gaming and wouldn't be hooking up any external audio components. I know the U8K is a step up in many respects, including its sound, but for the viewing I do, is it worth the extra $$$, or is the U7K perfectly compatible for those needs? Thank you!
Get the u7. I have it. And the price is the best too
What did you end up doing? I would go U7k.
Yes, we want QM8 vs U8K!!!
I've got a problem with my U8H: can't switch off automatic light sensor in any mode and its baffling me
Apparently, the blue light filter has been toggled on somehow. Maybe caused by a glitch after an update. Anyways, turned it off again and the full brightness came back again.
Great review! I currently have a LG - 86" Class NanoCell 90 Series LED 4K UHD in my dedicated home theater, I really like it. You'll like both. 75" from 9' - 10' is fine.
im looking forward to the comparison, it will make my decision on my next TV.
This can be seen in a number of different ways, such as:
* Buildings in China often do not have a 10th floor.
Funny thing, the 2024 Hisense model replacement is also skipping the “L” and the “M” and is going to be the U8N 😂
what about sound quality? please give us a conclusion on it. thank you
I’ve been obsessed with OLED these past few years because I’m going to have to bite the bullet and replace my very old Sony KDL-52XBR4 and the amount of TV you can get for the price in this particular model kind of makes me want this
HEY,,,,if u like OLED> this tv will look like OLED.
N rest just pitch black lol 😅😅😅😅😅

Wow, that's going to be a treat!
Good review, but guessing input lag isn't helpful at all. I wouldn't buy something based on a guess.
Is the input lag and image processing the same in game mode ? I mean is local dimming as effective in game mode ? What about colour accuracy in game mode HDR ?
I imagine it will be some upgrade. It has 33% larger CPU processor, n like 30% larger Memmory. So it can process Colors MUCH better/faster. :):)>)😊

i really dislike how makers started putting the legs at the end of the panels instead of keeping with a center pedestal.
Hey, high five. I ABSOLUTELY despise wall mount 😅😮😮😊
I remember in either your U8H review or one of your comparison videos about it you mentioned the H had some motion artifacts/ghosting or something like that. Is that still present on the U8K?

Waiting on the comparison video for sure. This should be a very close battle.

@@FrostyBud777 I have the exact same TV and yeah I agree that the viewing angle is terrible. It’s starts skewing pretty bad around just 30 degrees. In retrospect I wish I’d sprung for either the X93L or an A75L.

I would like to see a test with this TV, a QM8 and a Samsung S90C, i think they are in the same ballpark, once again a worthy test Caleb, well done.
QD-Oled is far superior in color volume then any tv so QM8 will have no chance to meet that alone.
Is the Hisense U7K the equivalent of the TCL Q7? If so, can you do a side by side comparison?
U7k mini led -4x QLED
Q7 - just QLED
4k144hz is not supported on the U8K (not yet at least) - you can only do 4k120hz, 1440p 144hz, and 1080p 240hz
What's with the blues and greens being way out of whack? Is this at all fixable from a calibration standpoint?
Not planning to buy a Hisense again. In South Africa the same model number normally means a cut down version of the US version.
I looked up the Hisense U8K on Amazon and realized it doesn't offer an 85" model. 85" is what I'm shopping for, so this model drops off my list of possible options. 🤷♂️ That puts the TCL QM8 as my top choice right now.
From what I've read there is an 85" model coming. Just isn't out yet.
I love my 100 inch U8K
This 100" is 2000 dollars less than the Qm8 98". I have an 85" Qm8 thats not big enough for my movie room (absolutely stellar TV btw), but 2k is 2k.
Thank you! Nit numbers for nit nerds isy favorite section!!!! 😂😂😂🎉❤

Is upscaling better than u7k on this one?
