I got one of these 2years ago for Christmas and it is a go truck besides the open differential and the differentials are plastic and I broke them in about 3weeks. But you get 2way Metal ones for 15$
I found another reviewer of this thing. The shutdown at the end of the run is actually the motor overheating. It has a safety cutoff, that this model is prone to tripping. It's not as bad as my old Pro-Speed car, which literally had a "Motor Overheat" light on the back of it...
The "suspension imbalance" is torque, you'll notice it only happens when accelerating. Shocks are easy to fill but you'll need some o-rings. It's the toughest rc I've seen. You should check Kevin Talbot's video where he drops it from the second floor of his shop...soft plastic is the best for bashing ;)
I think the reason why it doesn't have oil filled stocks is because it's ment for rock climbing so it helps with pushing up onto the rock so it can get to were it needs to be
I bought one a couple of weeks ago. Mine has a different remote, and instead of the mode button, it has another trim, that limits the top speed. I can defenently see differences in speed if I play around with that. I should also note, the one I purchased isn't as bouncy as this one is on asphalt, and I didn't go easy on the throttle. Great R\C car, if you're thinking about buying one, go for it!
+Ionut Matea Thanks for the info. Sounds like you may have version 2. Are your shocks oil filled? The throttle rate adjustment is great for beginners so they don't crash hard or hurt someone. A great truck indeed 😁
To be honest, I'm not sure how to check if they're oil filled. This is my first serious R\C car. Aubviously, I had some before this one, but they didn't have any shocks :)) . Do you happen to know? Because I'd check if I knew how.... I searched RUclips, but all I found was how to chanke the oil - does that mean that I have to take off the shock and unscrew the cap to see if there is any oil in there?
Bought this car about a year ago. I beat the living crap out of it and my dog chases it and tries to chew it. there are tons of upgrades available for it. And for the money it rocks. I found one on ebay for only 50. I am used to hobbygrade rc but this one is awesome
Nick I got the Vortex a959. I broke one suspension arm flipping it, but have ordered aluminium ones from Banggood and hopefully that will correct the left leaning steering. This car here looks amazing. Better durability probably. But I'm still happy with the Vortex. It's very, very fast.
Thank you for reviewing the WLToys Across (12428)...Very nice review; very well done. Quick question? Does it still work all these months later? Did you ever break any drive train related parts since you've owned it?
This thing is so much fun. A few quick notes and tips. 1> Driving tip: If you want to climb over a steep ledge (such as a tall curb), approach it at a close to parallel angle to put that rear suspension to work for you. Especially if approaching it head-on is getting you hung up. 2> Durability tip: Replace both differentials with metal gears as soon as you can. The plastic gears strip out in relatively short order, especially if you're driving it very hard. (It's a 4WD truck with gobs of power, why WOULDN'T you?!) This is basically mandatory if you upgrade the battery to a high-C LiPo. 3> Upgrade Tip: Parts availability is pretty good on this these days, thanks to generally rave reviews. I would count oil-filled shocks to tame the bouncy back end, metal gear differentials to fix the stripping problem, and larger, wider, knobbier tires to increase its climbing capability and grip, to be the "essential" upgrades.
On most controllers the mode button is for sinking in to other cars with same controller. No other controller will work with that car unless the are sinked. If you want you can use a more high tech controller. You just have to use the mode button.
In order to change de "mode" you have to power off the control +press and hold mode button + power on the control (while pressing the mode button) + release mode button; and then it'll change the "mode", it goes from low speed (if you want to use this thing inside the house) and a high speed mode. The bad thing is that there's no indication in the user guide of how to change the mode; one of my kids was the one who discover how to change the mode, i was using the car in low speed mode, and i was kinda of disapoint of the preformance; but after the change i was like :D yeeeii we are in bussines.
the left wheel lifting up but the right isn't is just because of the torque of the motor plus the way the driveshaft is spinning. Just like a tractor trailer. when they go from a standstill they lean as well
This video was posted back in 2016. I just bought one of these here in 2020 and mines didn't come with a wall charger (only a USB charger). I don't think they include wall chargers anymore
Perhaps, you could find where in the manual it states what the mode does for those of us who could not find that information in the manual or through actual testing with the car see any difference when clicking the modes button? I'd like to know what the mode button does. Thanks!
Thx for the great review! Just received mine today and it is a blast! Even with heavy rain and +5°C the maiden run was stunning! They definately improved the sloppy suspension... not oil filled shocks, but stronger springs, I guess. Already ordered the o-rings to fill the shocks, but don't know if still needed... I am more than happy with it :)
It’s like $12 for a 4 set of oil filled shocks made specifically for this thing. And the wheel lifting up is due to the motor being on one side throwing off the weight
I have had multiple RC cars from wltoys and I have to say one thing, there VERY Fragile!!!, but for the price the pay for one of these, you can't really argue, but you shouldn't expect it to be durable
Nice review Dustin, looks like great value buggy! I can't remember did you mention the range on the Across? I got the Feiyue FY03 Eagle which appears to be very similar, though not as fast and definitely not waterproof. The across looks to be better value. To fix the annoying rollover rate on mine I ordered and fitted some 12mm wheel hex to suit 1:10 tamiya and they fit nice and gave it a much wider track :) Some Quanum 1:10 (front)aluminium oil shocks to replace the rear springs from HK which I still have to fit. Great entry level buggies or presents for the kids, just not suitable for crawling :( If you ever do a TX range mod for car controller that the wheel pushes thru' (for L or R hand) I'd like to see it, I stopped short of disassembling mine fearing I was going to break it... but it needs it :/
+Ken Oath Hey Ken. Didn't test the range but it went out as far as I normally drive LOS without issue. Great idea on the wheels. I've got some wheels laying around I should try. I'll be looking into getting the O rings I hear fit for them to hold oil.

I just bought one of these but has a 2-3 second delay going from forward to reverse. If i go forward then push trigger to reverse it stalls then i have to pump the trigger again to reverse .. is this normal? Cheers
Can you please help? I have ordered this for my first RC. I understand that it uses the 7.4v 1500ma Li-ion, what do you think the best option is for charging? I was hoping to have 4 or 5 batteries so I can get about an hour drive time or possibly continuous use. So I would need an option that would charge 3-4 batteries at once in about an hour(if this even exists). I'm completely new and am confused on what will work with what. Any advice is appreciated. Thank you.

The reason why it lifts is the motor runs clock wise and that much torch lifts it. If you watch trophy trucks take off or gun it they do the same thing because of the sitrifical force of the moder
You can put in oil
i have this same rc, we had to move and i lost the charger due to it now i only can watch the rc in sadness it was one of my fastest
Dustin I have a unrelated question my flying 3D X8 with 10 satilites flys of in a random direction does that sound like a bad gps or compus flight controler was great now it flys off??? no crash but in a hot car for a couple days what do you think did something melt looks fine.
+ziggyzbeak sounds like a sensor got damaged from the heat or something came loose internally from the heat.
thanks man
Do the waterproof test!
Hi there I just bought one and I used up the battery and when I charged it I did it for 3hrs as said in the book but I use it and drives and then stops like if there was no connection with the remote but when I turn the wheel the front tires move left to right, what do you think it could be?
Where do you get parts for this?
Like the axle shaft.
:/ banggood, Amazon
i have that car too and i tell you not to go immediately forward next you went backwards because you brake the system of the posterior wheels
I just bought one of these but has a 2-3 second delay going from forward to reverse. If i go forward then push trigger to reverse it stalls then i have to pump the trigger again to reverse .. is this normal? Cheers
Yes, first reverse push is brake, second is reverse 🍻
mode is 4 the channels, to run multiple cars
This car waterproof?
this is a good one to mod .
Maybe the mode is to change in to water proof
How many minutes can it play?
Are there many upgrades for it
Alfie Bailey hundreds, mine has upgraded transmitter, micro receiver, 4500 motor, brushless micro esc, and aluminum suspension & chassis parts.
Alfie Bailey yep
Daniel Yates can you do a vid on yours?
Can you please help? I have ordered this for my first RC. I understand that it uses the 7.4v 1500ma Li-ion, what do you think the best option is for charging? I was hoping to have 4 or 5 batteries so I can get about an hour drive time or possibly continuous use. So I would need an option that would charge 3-4 batteries at once in about an hour(if this even exists). I'm completely new and am confused on what will work with what. Any advice is appreciated. Thank you.
+Ask Me About Insurance I would not drive again right away after one battery dies. Wait at least 10 minutes or you may have heat issues. If you want to charge multiple batteries at once get a hobby grade charger and the proper connector or adapter to charge these batteries
Could you change the controller to a fly sky
Is your camera 360?
I watched the whole video but you didn't ever mention it. does this car have oil filled shocks?
Jake Koninsky No it doesn't
