The quality of the transmitters with these new RTR vehicles is amazing! I remember hobby grade transmitters just 15 years ago that where hundreds of dollars and not even close to as good .
It's interesting how the 10428 and 12428 look like twins, yet really are entirely different beasts underneath the shell and performance-wise -- the 12428 being the lightweight, zippy little dune buggy basher, whereas the 10428 has a lot more heft/mass and is more of a trail buggy/crawler. (Yes, its top speed is quite a bit slower than the 12428.) My guess is WLToys targeted the 10428 series to be something like a poor man's Axial, with lower-grade parts than an Axial in order to keep the price down. I went with the 10428-B version, which has the Polaris-style black body. (BTW, it comes with front and rear LED lights pre-installed!) Can't say for sure how the battery tray is sized in the 10428 version, but the "B" version can fit a 2-cell 5000mAh LiPo in the "short" case, with the pack installed on its side, if you snip out a bit of the plastic cockpit panel to give enough clearance (just the part behind the hump, above the right side of the battery tray); a few well-placed layers of black electrical tape will cover up the rough/sharp edges to help protect the battery, without being an eyesore. I'm happy with this Gens Ace pack, which fits great: smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B01MD250XN/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1 . The normal-length packs tend to be too long to fit in the tray. With the 2c 5000mAh pack, mine will bebop around the yard/neighborhood for about 90 minutes (rough estimate). Great review! I absolutely agree that it is a great buggy, well worth the price for anyone wanting a relatively budget-friendly 1/10th-scale trail crawler.
I own the 12428 and love it. From what I saw in the video, I think the 12428 is faster than this one. Y'all need to do a video where y'all race these two side by side and maybe up the hill. The 1/10 scale seems to be more top heavy and rolls easier.
Good idea. I have the 12428 and upgraded it to a brushless 3s lipo. It goes 95kmh/60mph. I see that your profile picture is a drone. Mjx bugs 2w to be exact. I have the same drone as that, red and all and it is very good for its price.
hey! I realize this post is 2 years old at this point - but how has your 12428 been in terms of reliability? I just bought one, and am wondering if I should pre-emptively purchase any spare parts for those day-1 failures/mistakes?
I'll gladly relieve you of your WLtoys 12428! :-D I was never a huge fan of ground vehicles (though I've had several el-cheapo ones), but your channel is rather ♥rapidly♥ changing my mind about these wingless 4 wheeled little rascals! :-)
Maybe, rather than adding low-slung weight to it, first try removing that extraneous "spare wheel & tire" that's mounted up there on the cage. Also, I think stiffening-up the rear suspension would help prevent the rollover tendency. I've noticed that quick turns cause the front wheels to lift, and the rear wheels to compress...with the weight of the spare mounted so high up there, I believe that's what is causing the rolls.
CalvaryCustoms Definitely need to stiffen the suspension on this one. I upgraded the shocks on my 12428 (after one broke in a rollover) and that helped a lot too. It's still a little high centered, but now you have to really push it to make it roll.
Body roll is what keeps real race cars from rolling over, it handles the way it should for something without oil filled shocks, stiffer springs will make it roll over easier.
Geeze whiz....They need to use METAL gears for the diff assembly and plantery gear....i get that..plastic parts needs to flex..BUT NOT for GEARS, esspecailly for HEAVIER toys.....They can paint it with whatever the hell bling...bling...But get your PRIORITY straight....What's UNDER the HOOD is more Important...This toy has CRAPPY GUTS.lol
I have the Fy03..it's almost a 1/12 clone of this truck ..with only 390 brushed motor. It still has plastic spyders and drive line. i hear and seen videos of gear stripage on all these types of trucks. I dear not drive it like Abby. lol Trying to find replacement metal parts for my HBX....I want a 1/10 of it....but it's a no go...Until I find out exactly what those metal gears and parts will cost....They should just install those metal gears from factory to save everyone time, headaches and money.. Then you can simply drop in a brushless ( actaul up grade) Replacing plastic gears to metal...isnt upgrade..IT's MAINTENANCE,lol
This is a great rig. I own the 10428 and 10428b. This thing is a clone of the vaterra twin hammers which i own as well and 98% of the parts are interchangeable between the 10428 and vaterra twin hammers. You can barely tell a difference between them in the quality of the plastics and build. Very though and fun rigs.
DC RC I was going to comment something similar, clone of Vaterra twin hammers and interchangeable parts. Good cost savings with wl toys and use hop up/replacement parts from twin hammers.
I just got the 12428 for my birthday it looks awsome. This is my first hobby grade ground vehicle. Hopefully I can give it's madden voyage tomorrow. Thera us a great hilly area by my apartment to test it out on
I got the 12423. Liked it. Modded it as much as possible. It's crazy fast, very uncontrollable, and breaks metal driveshafts every 3 batteries. Then I got the senton 6s v3.... ummm, yep.
Nate. Try softening the rear shocks to bring the body down. It won't be as top heave and roll over so easy and it will increase your rear traction. Great video looks like the weather is finally turning for you. Keep em comin!
Happy Easter Saylors! I was thinking I would wake up to a flying Easter egg drone this morning! Hahahahaha Anyway, you gave me major Iwantitis with big brother to our favorite green truck! Fantastic review - extremely well done, my friends! I hope that you and your loved ones have a wonderful Easter! JP
Whoohoo a big bro to the 12428. Very nice. I still have to get the 12428 yet, I thought it was going to be this week, but didnt happen an unexpected bill did..but I will get a 12428 for sure, And I have some RCSaylor stickers ready to go on it. By golly you two will be getting super super busy now with the RC Fest just around the corner, So looking forward to the videos and live steaming...
i just ordered this badboy for my very first rc car,im 36 an wanted one ever since i was a tiny bean sprout lol, i think this will be a great first beginner rc for me after watching a few reviews so far and reading all the specs and reviews on the site, i hope i wont be dissapointed, also i hope i get the correct charger (a review i read said they live in US and got a incompatible charger :/) just crossing fingers this wont be the case,im going to call and make sure they put correct one.
Thank you 😎 Nate and Abby for the video, nice cars i have a newbright 1/6 scale h2 Hummer that has 3 speeds,an Alarm system lights and turn signals that light up. 🖒
You guys must do a head to head compare with the 10 before doing any roll mods to the 12. I'll have a little free time tomorrow evening so can you have the compare video uploaded by then? ;)
Looks gigantic to me Nate. Its really cool! Mabe sometime this summer I can pick up one of these bad boys! oh, oh battery issues. Low speed was pretty good, smooth, the gearset sounds nice and smooth. WL is really making a name for themselves. The big name companys HATE WL because they really are making strives to compete with them at a lower budget buggy. Their planes are pretty good also. I think they are swaying more towards RC ground vehicles but I would like to see them continue all aspects of the RC field. I think everyone should feel comfortable buying a WL toys product. Also they provide replacement parts like the big guys do. Great review you two! Abby is king of RC ground vehicles!
Hey guys. Could you please compare both, 12428 and 10428 side by side. Speed tests and climbing tests. It seems to me the 10248 is slower and more difficult climbing the hill then the 12428. Also, the 10428 seems rolled over more.
Thank you guys! I love this type of video! Ground vehicles rule! I agree with Cavalry about removing the extra weight on the wheel/driver/etc. and you'd see a lot better performance. That being said, this looks like a great time! Appreciate the video and Abby going back for batteries! Question: I know you have explained this before BUT I can't remember... where do you sell your old RCs or ones that you don't use much?
I have the 12428 but I upgraded it to a 3s lipo with a brushless motor and it goes 95kmh/60mph. But the 2 of the trucks stock, what one do you think is better. Mabye van you do a race or a tug of war or an obsticle coarse competition with the 2 of them?
Yes in the 12428 it has plastic gears and I grinder them down. I ordered all metal gears and they won't grind down. It is very fast and it is ok for crawling but I prefer bashers than crawlers overall
Hi guys! Still watching your cool videos... After 3 years is this car still good or should I think of looking for something else? I’m looking for a buggy/crawler kind of... rock basher...?
A bigger version of the 12428? I'm down! The 12428 is tons of fun and this looks like a ton of fun too. One thing I'm wondering is if you could get another 12428, if you don't have another already, and take the lights out of it and put it into the 10428. It's pretty hard to tell if that would be possible from the website, plus I haven't opened up my 12428 all the way to see how it's all connected. If that is possible though, I think that would be pretty cool but maybe just buying a light kit would be cheaper. But then again you would have another fun 12428 to play around with and use as a parts truck if need be. The possibilities are endless.
The 12428 with the better transmitter would be a big winner. Abby is stronger with the ground-based vehicles, while Nate's better at flying drones. Nate, you mentioned putting in a link for your favourite charger. You forgot! No Popeye in this video. Sorry, only three stars ;)
the middle position may just be a neutral position on the transmitter. they may be using a three way switch for the transition and the speeds being either end of the throw for it. I think traxxas may use some thing similar.
You guys looked like you were having so much fun, I made the 10428 the very first RC i purchased. I am a retired 73 yo that wanted to do my whole life, so I jumped right in. Although my friends thought it looked really high quality, none of us could get the car and the transmitter to work together. One of them even has a rc car of his own and he couldn't get it to work. Can either of you offer any advice? I have tried to contact the seller but have not heard back as yet. Thanks. Doug
Supposedly you can buy batteries and parts. I don't know where thinking about getting one. Is that the standard battery? Because obviously we operate in the battery, you can go faster.
Looks fantastic couldn't wait any longer took the 216 out today flew first time a drone crashed first time a drone flew again just using the phone had heaps of fun thank ou so much then had to stop foot got too sore now can hardly wait to fly again yyyyeeeeee haaaaaaaaaa
That's the same controller that comes with the WL 10428-A (Axial Wraith clone). I really like the radio controller, lots of adjustments, you can set up multiple profiles, and it feels good in the hand. The controller is a clone of a Futaba 4PLS. When I got the 10428-A it wouldn't shift into low gear, I had to pull the servo horn off and move it one gear over. It's not recommended to shift under power. I wonder if they've changed gear ratios, my 10428-A doesn't like to crawl at all even in low gear, it wants to thrash. I also wonder if they've made some chassis adjustments, mine has bad torque twist and constantly lifts the front right tire off the ground. I moved the battery up front and that helped a lot, but don't think the body on this 10428 has room to do that. For crawling you usually want more weight up front than in the rear, so it more "pulls" itself up hills rather than push, so adding some weight up there should help it get better front wheel traction. As with all RC land vehicles, it's a good idea to pull the axles apart and grease things. Mine were bone dry (as most Chinese RC trucks are.) It'll last a lot longer, and run quite a bit quieter, if you grease it. The rear axle is easy to split the cases, the font is a bit more of a challenge (there's plenty of good videos on youtube if you search for "vaterra twin hammers" and "k949" front diff.) I've been thinking of getting a 10428-B, it has a Polaris body I think looks pretty cool.
I'm thinking of expanding from Just drones into RC cars and boats. I just ordered the wltoys 12428 packaged with FPV. Is there a an expensive boat that you would recommend?
I'm not totally sure if you meant expensive or Inexpensive, so here are two really Great options that we and many others LOVE! Should definitely start with this - goo.gl/HVEYDr Here is our video on it - ruclips.net/video/ZVlcrLNW3lo/видео.html Want something a bit nicer? - goo.gl/JckJSo Here is our video on it - ruclips.net/video/GsiUyGmlCIg/видео.html
Yep, know what you mean about the 12428. Great little trooper. I've only managed to bruise its ego once (so far). Hit a seemingly innocent little lip (where the driveway meets the yard) dead-on at full speed with the 12428. Beautiful jump, but that lip absolutely murdered one of the driveshaft ball bearings. Fortunately, installed a new bearing and it was back in action. :)
I wouldn't mind a rough vehicle besides my trail truck, a deadbolt. But after so much trouble with my 10428 'wraith' I'm not sure if I want to get another WL Toys. But that does have a great dirt buggy look to it.
What are some aftermarket brands of lipo batteries to consider using in the 10428.? What are some aftermarket brands to stay away from.? Have you considered doing a review of your favorite aftermarket lipo brands.?
Oh absolutely!! A larger version of an already awesome RC?! We still have ours sitting proudly by the 12428 :-) Now if you don't love the 12428, then your money might be spent more wisely on another truck. If you decide to pick this up, it's getting harder to find, but here is where I'd recommend - amzn.to/38DpGul
Pretty sure this buggy is an exact(minus electronics)copy of a Vaterra Twin Hammer, esc is garbage, but the rest of it is pretty awesome! Thx for the video!
Yes!! I love that buggy I am glad WL toys made a bigger version. But really don’t like the price I think it cost too much. The regular one is like 70$ but you have to pay almost 100$more to get a 1/10 scale? I think that’s too much. What do you think?
I replaced the plastic gearbox internals with a full metal gear box from a vaterra twin hammers, twin grub screws in the drive shafts and aluminium wheel hubs. This setup doesn’t make it faster, just stronger for more power down the track and more durability.
It should have front sway bars that is painted yellow just like the 12th scale so that when you drive it you can see them move cause they are bright and not black like the10th scale i understand they didn't put the lights so that it would drop the cost but the coolest thing about the 12th scale is the front yellow bars
10:13 I saw that it was no longer being driven by both rear tires. It could be an open diff but I saw that the two front ones were both turning but the rear right tire stopped working so I think that is why it was not doing well at the end of the video.
I bought the 1/12 scale across and must have got two crappy ones. Not sure what the issue is but they only run about 5 minutes at most then overheat and shut off. Any suggestions before I crush them?
Love this truck? But it here - amzn.to/38DpGul
Happy Driving!!

These are one of the best wl toys has to offer
The quality of the transmitters with these new RTR vehicles is amazing! I remember hobby grade transmitters just 15 years ago that where hundreds of dollars and not even close to as good .
You are absolutely right! Amazing how far technology and prices have come :-)
It's interesting how the 10428 and 12428 look like twins, yet really are entirely different beasts underneath the shell and performance-wise -- the 12428 being the lightweight, zippy little dune buggy basher, whereas the 10428 has a lot more heft/mass and is more of a trail buggy/crawler. Great review! I absolutely agree that it is a great buggy, well worth the price for anyone wanting a relatively budget-friendly 1/10th-scale trail crawler.
I haven't even seen you drive it yet and I already want it! I love the first one, now I want THAT ONE! My kid and I can drive em around!
Now you need to get the 1/18 version - the 18428 in green. Looks just like these but smaller. Then you would have all three sizes of the same truck.
I own the 12428 and love it. From what I saw in the video, I think the 12428 is faster than this one. Y'all need to do a video where y'all race these two side by side and maybe up the hill. The 1/10 scale seems to be more top heavy and rolls easier.

Give it to Abby, she'll get big air and crash.
Great video as always.
Thanks Abby for grabbing the battery for the camera and why am I the only one who remembered
I have the little version. And a 20 out of 10 for the price and quality it is. Soo much fun. And can handle being ruff

Great review!!!! Cheers!!!!
Great video 👍🏼
What upgrade batteries and charger would you recommend for the 12428?
If this truck is half the truck the 12428 is. I say by it. Cause I got the 12428 and it’s best Rc truck ever bought for its price.
Very much agreed :-) Have a great day my friend!
How does this hold up after awhile

I like the 10428a or the b this one is cool too, like the transmitter a lot 👍👍👊👊📹📹 great review
It's sad that this version of car is much slower than smaller and cheaper version
I think its actually going to do better, even tho its slower its much more controlable. But the 12428 is still my favorite
And now the 1/12 comes brushless and with a metal body and suspension components 😮 I’m about to buy one.

No Popeye in this video. Sorry, only three stars ;)
Another great video guys, have a Happy Easter !:)
Suggest maybe a video on filming and editing , behind the scenes? How it applies to RC.
Happy easter guys awesome video 👍
the middle position may just be a neutral position on the transmitter. they may be using a three way switch for the transition and the speeds being either end of the throw for it. I think traxxas may use some thing similar.
Thank you guys for a great video
You should reveiw the 10248b with lights!!!! Front and back, you can switch on and off👌
Very good video, nice looking RC 💪👍👍😎
Thanks for tuning in :)
I bought one and got it 2 days ago i love it
Nice video as always guys...keep it up
Early squad where you guys at (:
Here I am two years later
Glad to see ya finally got this one! I burned out my esc on mine. Replacements are a pain to get
I’m new to your guys’ channel and I’m hooked.. thanks guys.. keep it up
A change of wide wheels for this will do the job not to roll. Great review as always, happy easter!
sweet little buggy!
Thanks. Doug
Hey Doug! Sorry to hear this. Did you purchase yours through our exact link provided?
Supposedly you can buy batteries and parts. I don't know where thinking about getting one. Is that the standard battery? Because obviously we operate in the battery, you can go faster.
Looks fantastic couldn't wait any longer took the 216 out today flew first time a drone crashed first time a drone flew again just using the phone had heaps of fun thank ou so much then had to stop foot got too sore now can hardly wait to fly again yyyyeeeeee haaaaaaaaaa
Great videos, been watching for some time.
Should definitely start with this - goo.gl/HVEYDr
Here is our video on it - ruclips.net/video/ZVlcrLNW3lo/видео.html
Want something a bit nicer? - goo.gl/JckJSo
Here is our video on it - ruclips.net/video/GsiUyGmlCIg/видео.html
Always wondered about the 10428. Didn't know it was bigger then the 12428. So the 12428 is faster out of the box?
I seen Kevin Talbots review this and I want it and your review was really awesome too
I love this buggy
Hoppy Early Easter🐇
Hmm. Well done wltoys done it again. I have the baby brother and boy it doesnt break. I am gonna get this one. Though not as fast it is really good
Yep, know what you mean about the 12428. :)
This is a really nice transmitter. Only aplies to the $70 more expensive model
Wow I like that ,I have the 1238 and I love it, So I’m putting that one on my list LoL, Great video guys 👍👍
I wouldn't mind a rough vehicle besides my trail truck, a deadbolt. But after so much trouble with my 10428 'wraith' I'm not sure if I want to get another WL Toys. But that does have a great dirt buggy look to it.
Im so upset because i don't have enough money but when i get the money i will instantly buy one
What are some aftermarket brands of lipo batteries to consider using in the 10428.?
What are some aftermarket brands to stay away from.?
Have you considered doing a review of your favorite aftermarket lipo brands.?
Is it worth getting this one if you already have the 12428? cheers
@@TheRcSaylors Thank you!
Ordered the smaller one, thanks for the awsome videos.
Driver inside? Cool! :)
Pretty sure this buggy is an exact(minus electronics)copy of a Vaterra Twin Hammer, esc is garbage, but the rest of it is pretty awesome! Thx for the video!
Might buy one
Yes!! I love that buggy I am glad WL toys made a bigger version. But really don’t like the price I think it cost too much. The regular one is like 70$ but you have to pay almost 100$more to get a 1/10 scale? I think that’s too much. What do you think?
well you have to realize it's a copy of the vaterra twin hammers, and it's a hell of a lot cheaper, definitely quite as good though
Hey try the 8x8 version it does actually have working lights and you could have got a 50$ one
I have driven my 12428 on 3s and it is awesome fast! I'd like to see this go on 3 OR 4s!
Which car is faster the 12428 or the 10428
I have this and it's the best !
Y'all should try the brushed Traxxas Slash
We might have to do an official video on it 👍
10:13 I saw that it was no longer being driven by both rear tires.
You forgot to link your favorite charger in the description. I am curious, what is it? I recently bought a hexfly and I not impressed.
Do you have any other working link to purchase this truck? The Amazon link doesn’t show anything anymore
looks great I want one
I love this car
