Hi Tomley, nice video thank you. I bought the Q39 and like it but it is just a bit too fast for my 5 year old son. Unfortunately the controller does not have functionality to turn down the throttle, is there any way that I could get it too run slower? Would it work if I bought a controller that does have that functionality like the one that comes with the G174 perhaps? I am completely new to RC and would love to see a video that explains the basics of how all the electronic parts work together.
Hi mate, if you buy the controller, you'll need the combined ESC/Receiver as well. The only other option would to be finding a 1s (3.7v) battery...although that may slow it down too much.
One thing I forgot to add, the best thing you can do for those is take the foam out of those Wheels. It really helps compensate for the lack of oil in the suspension. I did add oil to my suspension, you really need to add some small O-rings but it made a big difference also. With just those two mods it makes a world of difference

Love your videos Sir! Thanks for so much great content! Also I’ve watched your vintage Tamiya ad vid about 4 thousand times, brings back great memories lol
I just ordered this one because the 12428 was backorder on banggood and someone say that this is a lower quality product because it dont have metal wheels bearing well compared to the fy03 desert eagle wish share the same parts
Oh, I'm also interested to know, why do you say that the JJRC Q39 is better than the WLtoy 12428? My concerns are because I am interested in buying a cart of these, but I want to decide for the best. Thank you
Would surely disagree about it being better. Plastic is more rigid and better quality, ball joints and steering especially. But that's an old Feiyue FY-03 chassis, in fact the whole car is just a new production run of it, by JJRC. Metal diffs are undersized and really weak long term, being made out of soft zinc. It's just not enough to be made "out of metal", cause there are shitty metals :) And a slipper clutch is a nuissance even with standard motor, let alone something more powerful. If not slipping (a matter of time), then it is spring chewing a pressure plate, or getting loose when using reverse, and tightening in forward drive. Also, all the plastic drive joints wear out much faster than steel ones in WLtoys. And on the final point, fragile in frontal impacts because it's missing a metal plate below front diff casing. In stronger impacts, the casing takes the brunt of impact and breaks fairly easily. On the contrary, all that 12428 needs are metal gears by TPower, which are proper steel and last forever.
Yes, you have some good points there. My 12428 has lasted some interesting crashes!...but the plastic gears are very weak stock, and the ESC/Rx lasted about a week (although I think the JJRC/Feyiue may be the same). The Metal gears are good, but I have lost the driveshaft/axle pinion internal screw a few times and lost drive to the rear as it comes loose no matter how much loctite I applied! But anyway....like I mention in the video, all of them are good entry level trucks, and being that this is quite often cheaper by around $30, it's not to be ignored :)
@@TomleyRC Yes, axles spin through plastic gears in no time, but in my experience that's the only durability downside of 12428, and has an excellent remedy. Linked to that, after breaking half of the diff screws while changing gears, replaced ALL with proper screws (10.9 ones), then you can tighten them properly and loctite does its job. Not one loosened. Haven't had any problems with stock ESC, as opposed to the Feiyue one, that smoked immediately after just connecting the battery for the first time 8) Feiyue zinc gears are really soft and undersized, and very badly and wobbly made. When it is time for replacing, that becomes very apparent. You just cannot get a smooth working diff, with axles properly aligned. It has to chew through itself to get to somewhat working condition. And that ain't a problem with such soft gears, but then they are half chewed :P But the one that was just too much hassle for me was slipper clutch. When it starts slipping just a bit, it's game over, it gets progressively worse. Open, clean, rebuild. The spring is waaaay too soft, it binds up when tightened to a point of clutch not slipping. But then it is prone to slipping. If you tighten it more, you deform the plastic gear beneath it. Then clutch doesn't seat properly, and slips. I got so fed up with it that I got a new custom and proper spring made for clutch. That made it better, but still not enough for any kind of motor upgrade. Everyone mentions that slipper as a plus. It aint, it's a cheap and badly constructed weak point. Furthermore, with 390 brushed motor there is not even a need for it, 12428 does incredibly fine with a fixed spur and a 540 motor, and that direct punchyness makes it really fun and lively :) The truth is that 12428 got more expensive, after all the YT glory. AFAIK, Tomtop still has it for an ok price, especially for EU customers. Feiyue/JJRC is a fine truck, as long as you keep the stock motor (a must) and rebuild gearbox and diffs regularly. It is more precise to drive, but that maintenance kills it for me.
Nice comparison video. I really like this model type, but have not bought one yet, though the Feiyue is better looking, but this one looks like a good buy. Still hate the bright colours they seem to choose for these models. ;)
I think it looks good and seems pretty capable off-road - definitely worth a look at the price. As you know me, Phil, it's not my choice as I tend to stick with blooming expensive Tamiyas! Saying that, pound per performance, this kicks a basic DT02's butt! ;D
@@TomleyRC Agreed mate, I think we grew up in a different time - saving for a new RC, building it, painting, applying decals - it means more when you go through that process. On the face of it, Tamiyas are definitely not "better", but the whole process is enjoyable, at least to us! Old school! :))
@@MarkBryanRC 100%.... Building is sometimes more fun that running them.... 👍I got my first NEW kit around 1995...an M01 Mini, I was 16 and I bought it with 2 weeks wages (apprentice wages!) 😂 Although my very first RC was a Madcap....I swapped my Gameboy for it, must of been around 92/93 I think.

So, in the 3 version the JJRC Q39 Vs WLtoys 12428 Vs Feiyue FY03 , which one would you recommend? (my first priority is good looking and durable, speed is not much a problem). And actually I'm thinking of getting the Feiyue FY05, can you do a review on it?
The FY05 looks good! Out of the 3 above, I'd say the FY03 is the best looking, and has really good electronics. It is nearly double the price of the Q39 though. So depends how much your budget is.
@@TomleyRC Luckily I found a store where I can get the FY05 with the price just slightly higher than the rest (about 60$). Also since most of these Chinese RC are clone version of other brands, do you know what's the original one?

Hi there! Great video. Shout outs from Santa Barbara🖐️ This is my first RC car and I'm new to the hobbie. I had 3 questions if Anyone could answer... 1. What's the best website for information(fourms) and/or buying (compatible) parts for this model? 2. My jjrc q3 just recently broke down. Everything works but the acceleration, any suggestions? --Besides completely replacing it. 3. What upgrades would be good for this specific model?
Hi Dug 🤘 1. I'd look around on Facebook for specific groups or generic RC ones. I don't go on any forums, so can't help I'm afraid. 2. Hmm...not sure on that. It could be the electronics unit. Replacement here: www.banggood.com/custlink/Dvvmh1Fg8A 3. I'd say the first thing to do would be sort the shocks out, you can actually fill the stock ones with Oil, there is a comment somewhere on this video with instructions from one of my Subscribers (Model Nutty). Other than that, this is pretty good as it is. Hope that helps. 👍
So many nice models... Thinking I want the WLToys for it's too speed potential. I live in a very urban areas so it's mostly pavement. A question; have you reviewed the WLToys 12429? I really like it for it's driverless shell and quirky design but how does it stack up compared to a 12428?
Can't find these for the kind of prices you mention - the Q39 £59.99 shipped from HK, the 12428 £60.69 shipped from HK. 70p difference. eBay, both. Where are people getting them from? Gearbest and Aliexpress are both more expensive than ebay.
Is this the thinking man´s choice? Or would that be the Feiyue, with its hobby-grade electronics sweetening the deal even more than the slipper clutch already has done?
I think the Feyiue is a good choice as you can upgrade it without worrying about needing a Transmitter/Receiver, and as you have seen...I out a better motor in without upgrading the ESC also. This JJRC is certainly a really good entry level truck though.

Furthermore, with 390 brushed motor there is not even a need for it, 12428 does incredibly fine with a fixed spur and a 540 motor, and that direct punchyness makes it really fun and lively :)
The truth is that 12428 got more expensive, after all the YT glory.
Still hate the bright colours they seem to choose for these models. ;)
Yes, black wheels, black frame would have looked better on the JJRC, the same as the Feyiue
12428 comes metal differential now and a better quality motor.
Good to know they have upgraded it a little 👍
Great video, can’t wait to get mine and make a video on it💯
Cheers dude
I think it looks good and seems pretty capable off-road - definitely worth a look at the price. As you know me, Phil, it's not my choice as I tend to stick with blooming expensive Tamiyas! Saying that, pound per performance, this kicks a basic DT02's butt! ;D
Cheers for watching Mark, I'd have a Tamiya any day over this.....but you are right, pound per performance!
@@TomleyRC Haha! Those were the days! I had an original Monte Carlo Mini M01 too - still have it today, in fact I made a rally mini video of it last year - still runs well and with the special M series Acto Tuned motor I think it hits 27mph! :-)
Sorry I'm a bit late to the party. Currently the 12428 is selling for £55 brand new on a well know site(not sure if I can say it but it begins with e) whereas the q39 is around £78. Would you still recommend the q39? PS I am looking forward to upgrading whichever model I get. Thanks
If you can get the 12428 from eBay for £55...buy it! When I made this video it was the other way around...the 12428 was about £80.
@@TomleyRC wow quick reply, thanks
Hi there! Great video. Shout outs from Santa Barbara🖐️
This is my first RC car and I'm new to the hobbie.
Hi Dug 🤘
1. I'd look around on Facebook for specific groups or generic RC ones. I don't go on any forums, so can't help I'm afraid.
2. Hmm...not sure on that. It could be the electronics unit. Replacement here: www.banggood.com/custlink/Dvvmh1Fg8A
3. I'd say the first thing to do would be sort the shocks out, you can actually fill the stock ones with Oil, there is a comment somewhere on this video with instructions from one of my Subscribers (Model Nutty). Other than that, this is pretty good as it is.
Hope that helps. 👍
Wow very nice bash big thumbs up my friend XD good review
Thank you 🤘
@@TomleyRC Your welcome my friend XD
Nice rip✌
Cheers dude
For 60/70 bucks can ya really go wrong? Plus metal diffs! Nice👍👍
Yes, it's a decent truck!
So many nice models...
Thinking I want the WLToys for it's too speed potential.
I live in a very urban areas so it's mostly pavement.
A question; have you reviewed the WLToys 12429?
I really like it for it's driverless shell and quirky design but how does it stack up compared to a 12428?
NC MOUNTAINS ❤.. really nice video.. I got my Feiyue fy03! On 3s brushed airplane motor!! Your have to check it out!!! 👊
Thanks for watching.... yours looks good!
Wow... Pretty awesome car, man!!! 😮
Wow~ Very nice video my friend~!!👍😁👍
Thank you
Can't find these for the kind of prices you mention - the Q39 £59.99 shipped from HK, the 12428 £60.69 shipped from HK. 70p difference. eBay, both.
Where are people getting them from? Gearbest and Aliexpress are both more expensive than ebay.
I often don’t mention prices in videos because they change so often. The 12428 is a bargain at £60 👍🏻👍🏻
Friend, please tell me: How many miles per hour does this cart reach, and during what time?
About 18-20 mph I think.
Can you do a setup video on how you use fpv with the camera?
Is this the thinking man´s choice? Or would that be the Feiyue, with its hobby-grade electronics sweetening the deal even more than the slipper clutch already has done?
I think the Feyiue is a good choice as you can upgrade it without worrying about needing a Transmitter/Receiver, and as you have seen...I out a better motor in without upgrading the ESC also. This JJRC is certainly a really good entry level truck though.
@@TomleyRC The JJRC can still be improved with, say, oil shocks, and you´ve demonstrated that the performance from the 380´s perfectly adequate anyway...
Yes Oil shocks are a big improvement...its a 390 motor....I got it wrong at least 3 times on the review haha
@@TomleyRC Only you, the maker of the video, will notice most of the cock-ups (at least, that´s what I tell myself)...
I´d never even heard of a 390 motor. It was hard to find a brushless 370 motor for my Carisma Beetle - everyone said "Er...we´ve got a 380, mate".
Eagerly waiting for 5k subs
Yeah, not far off I know! A few more days I should think. 🤘
oUT OF ALL THESE, i SAW A PURPLE ONE A WHILE BACK, AND CANT REMEMBER WHERE OR WHAT? yOU KNOW???
Sorry caps
Good video.and review.
Think it’s a 390 motor a good bit bigger then a 380
Yes it is a 390...I called it a 380 more than once 😂
can you try the litehawk ace 4x4 rock racer and compare it to these two
Hi, are you selling any of your trucks? Looking for one for my son
Not at the moment mate
12428 or 12428-B which one the best if it wanna adventure
I really like the 12428-B
@@TomleyRC unbox itttt plzzzz
It’s the same truck as the 12428, just rebranded.
It's not the same. Chassis, driveshafts, tyres, axles, suspension links, electronics... all different.
I have both of them, jjrc is exactly the same as feiyue
When's the next subscriber build video
Hopefully next week. I have half of it recorded, but had an issue with one of the new parts...so had to get a replacement 👌
can someone tell that
if we press throttle on remote
the car gets faster and faster
means more press more speed
i mean if we press a little car goes slower ??
and same for throttle plz reply
Yep.. proportional..
Every every JJRC product I have bought has gone bad within minutes of using. Ex. Burned up esc, bad motor, etc... I personally will not buy another jjrc product.
Not had any issues with mine. I destroyed a motor on my WLtoys, but that was my own fault!
Is the jury q39 water proof?
No, but ok in a few puddles
all wltoys are cosmos only change color and metal plastic material
Hey I have a question I have my q39 but the drive shaft broke how or were can I get a new one
Which driveshaft broke?
Tomley RC Garage the one in the rear and the both front cvd drive shafts broke today..
'
what country made this R/C buggy car...
dont need to put spare 5th wheel on the back top...
too heavy weight and eat battery too much plus ESC / motor getting hot and short running time
China. Yes, needs a few improvements, but for the money, a good truck!

Wltoys is 1000000x better
Is it waterproof plz tell me
Splash proof, not fully water proof
Can it go in mud and saltwater
CAN YOU LOCK THE FRONT DIFFS IN IT ?????
With glue yes
@@TomleyRC thx 4 the reply ! ! ! ! PS... your fuck awesome ! ! !
That is one of the loudest rc cars lol.
540 motor?
390 👍
Me:Finds this video in 2022 Oh that looks cool, lets see what the price is. **checks site** ah so f@ck the usa I guess. They no longer sell em here.
Oooihhhh
But the 12428 its most cheap.
Jjrc steals ideas from many other companies like eachine and wltoys
I think they are all as bad as each other to be fair
Your way to bipolar. Also it's called wltoys 12427
