Good, thorough review. This is impressing me more and more! I believe that the 10428, 1/10th Scale version of the same car is nearly the same size.... Something I learned on the forums, and from a Horizon Hobbies employee. The 10428 and the Vaterra Twin Hammers - are nearly IDENTICAL! All Twin Hammers parts do fit on these cars! Use the Vaterra shocks, and you will be happier! Actual differences between the 12428 and the 10428 are: The "1/10th Scale" 10428 comes with full adjustable steering and suspension links, metal. MUCH tighter steering than the "1/12th version". It also comes with oil filled shocks. The 12428 are friction shocks. The Vaterra Twin Hammers shocks, front and rear, fit perfectly - both cars! And, locked rear diff, but still open front diff (BUT, the diffs are sealed units, like the Vaterra, so they can be filled with very thick diff grease, to act more like a Positraction and not an open diff!) The 10428 comes with a 2-speed transmission! Shifted on the fly with your remote (which is far superior to the one with the 12428!). The low gear is quite low, for rock climbing. This transmission IS identical to the Vaterra. The 12428, as you know, has a single speed transmission. Both models have the same 540 motor. The 10428 comes with full ball-race bearings. The 12428 has solid bushings in places. The largest difference is - the 10428 is roughly TWICE the cost! I do believe that both have identical chassis. I have no way of checking, because I know nobody who has the "1/10th Scale" version. Murph
I really want one of these. My best friend wants one even more. Sadly, he has undergone several devastating blows within a 6 month period, starting with losing his 28 year old daughter in a tragic car accident! Expenses escalated and soon snowballed.... As of now, he can barely afford to even FEED his family. They are now facing Eviction within 3 weeks! We are both Air Force Veterans. He however, was injured during Desert Storm, and is now disabled. Our government doesn't give us enough to live beyond the poverty threshold.... At least I can still work. He cannot. I've been working overtime, to try to help with their bills and food, as well as taking care of my own household. I started a PayPal donation account for him and his family. People have NOT been charitable. :( I can't force anybody, but we're all at the breaking point. They need $380.00 by 3 weeks, or they will be out on the streets! So, as much as we really want these.... there's no way anytime soon.
I'm sorry! I didn't mean to tell you ALL that. I think maybe I'm just feeling desperate. Not a good feeling. They have such an enormous problem, that it likely seems beyond belief for most people. Again, I apologize for burdening you with our problems. Cheers, Murph
That sounds terrible mate :| I was in that boat only a few months ago so I know what that feels like.. But I don't really think one should be looking at getting any kind of RC if you're in That situation.. I have no idea what kind of help organisations there are over there, but especially for vererans I'm sure there are some?
I'm so sorry for the loss of your child! I couldn't have known that.... I just started writing, and blabbed out way too much. His family is devastated, and we've exhausted all possibilities from the government. We have "Wounded Warriors", and non-profit organisation, who work with us some....... but they're limited, and give according to the severity of the Vet's disabilities. Sadly, there are men and women out there who are severely disabled. They get the lion's share of the proceeds, of course. So here I am, desperately and fruitlessly trying to get help for them, anyway I can. He's a good Man, and doesn’t deserve this. Absolutely, neither of us can afford RCs.... Sometimes there's a bigger reason - sanity. He always got such joy from it, but his Rigs were among the first things sold when things began to fall apart. I Pray that your situation has been improved.
Iev got got one of these and just in case I didn't know you can actually adjust the shocks. They have a piece on them that you can spin down the threads to tighten suspension
hmmm..not so great overall with this one? I agree it is a nice looking little rig, but it broke a bit fast. I would like to see what else you can break when that servo is fixed and you get it going on 3S! :)
I'm pretty *SURE* more things will go bust on 3S indeed :D The spot I was driving the car is known as 'sloopkule' which loosly translates to 'wrenking yard' ;) No RC car leaves that spot without damage somehow :P
cool sir,..I got one of that same kind but it's SL toys not WL toys,..and mine is 85kmh,but look like almost same in speed..I was thinking maybe its a types of battery, so maybe I'm going to try a 4000 mah
I just got one. This is more of a fast dessert Baja buggy than a rock crawler as the diffs are not locked. I also felt the rear shocks are too soft and bouncy and the front shocks don't rebound fully out of the box. I also didn't like flexing of the steering arms on the front steering knuckles because of the very soft plastic used. This buggy is for a kid who's going to abuse the hell out it without breaking a lot of parts. I paid only $72 for it so that wasn't too bad for a fast and durable buggy that's not really RC hobby grade. I myself wouldn't try to upgrade it, just run it as is with a couple of extra batteries.
Thanks for posting Your findings with the car Gary! I would agree with that. On mine the steering-servo regretably failed a bit quickly, but well.. those things can happen offcourse :) Cheers & happy driving!
Update 5/6/17: First of all I don't like the Phillips head screws. Hex head screws would of been a lot better. Second you'll need a JIS Phillips head screwdriver or not a very pointed end one for the screws. Third just snug up the screws by hand when tightening them, the screw heads pop off real easy. I popped one of the screw heads off already when trying to remove the cage and didn't get the cage off because I didn't have the right screwdriver at the time and the driver I had would just slip. I got 8 of the screws out but there was 2 left at the top of the buggy and my screwdriver would just slip. Upon putting the removed screws back on I tried to get one of the bottom screws a little bit tighter and then "snap". Also I would use a cordless screwdriver to carefully remove and partially drive the screws in because the screws have fine machine threads and most of them are around a 1/2in. long and very tight to turn so you'll spend a lot of time wrenching your hand to screw or unscrew them.
Having the right tool for the job works best (allso goes for hexes) but yep.. I know lots of people prefer hexes over Phillips-heads :) (Phillips is a Dutch company by the way :P so I'm a bit biased :D ) Hmm I had not run into that problem with the screw-heads myself :$ That's a good addition Gary :) What I displike Most by the way if RC's have a mix of hexes & Philips heads.. Or lot's of different sizes..
I did finally get the roll cage off. Didn't you have problems with the buggy stopping for no reason and you thought the speed controller/receiver may have been overheating? Well there is 6 transistors sticking out on one side of the speed controller/receiver. There is no heatsink attached to them so that may be the problem. Also the shocks can be taken apart and looks like you could add oil to them but you can't. The shock shafts have a pin that slides in a groove in the shock body (Correction: there is a piston and a very small pin that holds it on the shaft) and there's no rubber seals. Maybe you could add some grease in the shock body to dampen the rebound and I'll try that. I ordered three 2200mAh batteries from WL-Toys. They're the only place I found that had similar sized batteries with more capacity and the same deans type plug. They're expensive, $23.99 each plus $6.55 shipping and it'll take a month to receive them. Also watch out when taking off the wheels, the plastic hexes will stick in the wheels and the axle pins will fall out. I almost lost one when taking off one of the wheels.
Update 5/20/17: I tried taking apart the other rear shock and ruined it. The top cap of the shock was very hard to unscrew. The shock body is also made of very soft plastic and trying to hold it with pliers will deform it and the piston will not slide smoothly now. I also lost the very small pin that holds the piston on the shaft. I ordered 2 front and 2 rear stock shocks. They're just $8.99 a pair. I will try and find a better way to take them apart without destroying them and still try adding some grease to dampen them.
hey buddy... nice unboxing and running test. I'm still curious to know your thoughts about the stock shocks on this RC? :-D I agree it's a nice looking RC but some of the issues are annoying. I had a lipo go bad on me for the a969-B i just did, as the RC came shipped with the lipo plugged in (not sure why) and the ESC came loose and the on/off switch was on. drained the battery dead. at least this one has a bigger tray than my model did. Shitty servos with RTR is standard fair obviously but it shouldn't fail like yours did. Overall an interesting RC. BTW what shocks did you put in the rear? Nice honest review btw! Cheers
Thanks for watching buddy :) Ha! The shocks is a funny all on it's own :P I used *25* year old shocks from my 2nd RC car ever :P (a Kyosho car) :P Okee.. what did I think of the stock shocks: Garbage! :D the ride was just Silly.. Yeah, the car isn't expensive.. I know.. A few more $$ would have made it a far more capable car.. Then the servo that failed before it should have.. Can't recommend the car despite it's nice looks..
funny,I was just looking at those the other day! I shop Banggood a lot. I bought a WLToys v913 helicopter last August and have had lots of problems with it. I finally got it flying right last night. Besides trimming it out,its not too bad. I ordered lots of aluminum repacement parts for the rotor and plenty of spare everything for it. It wont do tricks, but it will fly,and thats all I wanted. I enjoy all things RC but cant afford really expencive stuff. I think WL toys stuff is ok,some of it is cheap, other things not so bad. At least you can upgrade them. most toy grade RC trucks, helis and stuff, once they break, they are done, trash! Banggood usually carrys the parts available for those that are more hobby grade. Nice review. Glad you mentioned the upgrades, where did you get them?
Likewise sir! I like most every kind of RC as well :) My verdict on WLtoys stuff isn't in yet, as this is only my 2nd WLtoys product.. The quadcopter I have from them worked out Great! This car however ;) Ohwww the upgraded shocks! Hold on for it.... Those are *25* years old! :O They came with a Kyosho car (quality from the good old days ;))
+DutchRC Adventures Thats funny! 25 year old shocks. Hey, they work! isnt thats all that matters. I am working on a cradle for working on my planes. using construction foam, looks great
+DutchRC Adventures I was going to order one and thought, geeze I can make one with all the scrap foam I have floating around. I can use it for painting too. If something happends to it,I can always whip up more. I am using hot glue and foam, thats it.
Hey, you should sign up with Patreon, Good way to get supporters. Btw I am glad you are doing first look/preview and actual test in the same video, I prefer that instead of the preview at home and have to wait for the actual test video later :)
Ghehe yes.. I do agree.. Sometimes it's just not possible (weather) to drove/fly the product right away.. And well.. especially with a newer product I DO want to release at least Something soon ;) Hmmm well.. I've had a 'support' link in the description of my video's for 1 year now.. With TWO people supporting.. So yeah..
With Patreon it will set it up so it will donate monthly, like twitch does with subscribers, I have a few youtube people who use it that I "subscribe" to. worthabuy and techmoan. Set yourself up with it and I will subscribe :)
Well. I will then TELL you: the car can run on 3S.. I won't say the electronics will last long though.. Anyway.. I just tried it on 3S.. As you could see, it does run..
Aparte vering.
Yeah man! I wasn't happy with that offcourse (I drove quite a bit to get to this driving spot :P) But well.. I'll swap in a Real servo & we will see how the car likes 3S :) Looks nice indeed! :)
If you order a new stock servo maybe you can limit the voltage placing a resistor to limit it too 5.5v or similar ? or is it a all in one unit like the 1:18th scale wltoys cars ?
Take the foam outa the tires and i drill a small hole in the inside of the tread they are to stiff and makes it " ROLL OVER"" to easy.... use softer springs on the back shocks or just cut a ring or 2 off the original springs you can do the front also.. doing this lowers it a bit makes the suspension softer .....The lower you can make it the better ..It makes it easier to control at high speeds and it won't "" ROLL OVER""" very much!!!? And it will still crawl rocks like a beast!!!
I have visited the Ebay page, with the purpose of buying one, but I am disturbed by the fact that it says it says it speaks of two categories of carts, some originals, and other Chinese. Which of the two do you recommend? Please. Thank you
Well.. to be honnest, I didn't really like the quality (shocks / servo) of this WLtoys car.. So there is a good chance the Feiyu car would work out better...
I see this car on a lot of other channels and there got a other trans like yours.they had two trim knobs and the mode button did nothing.you can't fill the shocks with oil because there's no sealing. is it good after a while you drive it?
Hello Dutch. I have the Feiyue FY-03 version of this car which it pretty much identical in every way. Like yourself, I swapped the rear shocks to oil filled one, however, I want to ask you whether the state of the battery can affect the life of the motor. So far I have changed the 540 brushed motor three times. Each time I find the motor runs for about five charges then burns out. At one point one of the motors even burnt out the ESC. Apart from the shocks the car is standard. Regards
Halloa Alex :) hmmm that IS a bit of a short life-span huh? I did not have that problem myself. Now brushed motors never last as long as brushless motors, but obviously 5 runs is far to fast for the motor to burn out.. Could it be your car has some kind of resistance in the drive-line so the wear on the motor is this severe?
Yikes! Was actually a little scared Onyx was going to get an electric shock. Would never have thought to put a motor in water to run it in. Following your suggestion I have checked the drive train and it is turning smoothly. My replacement motor has arrived so will copy your run in procedure, just waiting for the replacement ESC . Regards
:D Onyx is still doing fine ;) He actually showed up in my latest camera-tests :D But yep.. a tried & true practice for brushed motors.. The motor will runn better & last longer if treated that way.. Basically you're wet-sanding the magnets & brushes that way :)
nice review... how about the motor? I actually just got one and noticed that the motor gets hot easily, is that normal?? As well as the annoying sound when controlling it, can I turn the sound off? Newbie to RC here, appreciate your reply. :)
Hello Bernard :) the motor indeed gets a bit warm, but I don't think you should be worried about That.. Mine did not come with sound.. Does yours have some kind of speaker maybe? You could then just clip 1 of the wires on the speaker.. Kind regards!
last question sir.. this is my first time using a remote with adjustable turn and throtle... just noticed that when i push the trigger for reverse it takes two attempt. is that normal? is the first one for break? also the trigger is too soft.. u really need to control it carefully.. is that how it is supposed to be?
Ah yes. that 2x for reverse is indeed common for these systems. This is to prevent you from driving forward and Then immediately run it in reverse (which could damage the car). And yep. you need to get a feel for that.. You will get used to it :)
Ghehe yeps.. like I said: more & more cars like this are showing up.. Here is another one: www.banggood.com/Syaheli-112-2_4G-4WD-Desert-Off-Road-Truck-Eagle-3-RC-Car-FY03-p-984621.html?p=TO251813974002015038

Just got mine today! and saw this video inspired me to ride it outside. by the way, how do you stiffen those rear suspension? Here's a vid of what I did. ruclips.net/video/VjWkn9hqg3U/видео.html

hey buddy... nice unboxing and running test. Cheers
Thanks for watching buddy :)
Ha!
This car however ;)
Ohwww the upgraded shocks! Hold on for it.... Those are *25* years old! :O They came with a Kyosho car (quality from the good old days ;))
+DutchRC Adventures Thats funny! 25 year old shocks. Hey, they work! isnt thats all that matters. I am working on a cradle for working on my planes. using construction foam, looks great
Yeps.. they were on my 2nd RC ever :P Still work like a charm ;)
Ohw nice! Yeah.. they can be hard to work on otherwise huh? :)
+DutchRC Adventures I was going to order one and thought, geeze I can make one with all the scrap foam I have floating around. I can use it for painting too. If something happends to it,I can always whip up more. I am using hot glue and foam, thats it.
Excellent :D That is actually a really good idea :) I just build on the floor, and sometimes I use few big bench pillows when building :P
And well.. especially with a newer product I DO want to release at least Something soon ;)
Hmmm well..
Sooooo... does this work?? :$ www.patreon.com/DutchRC?ty=h
Yep, it works :)
Thanks :) Don't use it yet though.. I'm stuck in a form about taxes :| Can't make heads or tails of it
Hi, where did you see that this car can be run on 3s? It is wrote nowhere in manual. Imo, nothing say that it can be run on 3S.
Well. I will then TELL you: the car can run on 3S.. I won't say the electronics will last long though..
Anyway.. I just tried it on 3S.. As you could see, it does run..
Aparte vering.
shame the servo died would've liked to seen the the 3s action. great looking car though and I do like the colour scheme
Yeah man! I wasn't happy with that offcourse (I drove quite a bit to get to this driving spot :P)
But well.. I'll swap in a Real servo & we will see how the car likes 3S :)
Looks nice indeed! :)
If you order a new stock servo maybe you can limit the voltage placing a resistor to limit it too 5.5v or similar ?
or is it a all in one unit like the 1:18th scale wltoys cars ?
Something like that might indeed work.. Bit of a shame you can't just use regular servo's in this car
Nice tip man! I wouldn't have though removing the foam would actually make the car work out Better :$
Battery pack, possibly two 18650 cells in series?
Yeah.. could very well be.. Don't have it anymore though :$
you should get the WL toys crawler with 6 wheel drive!
That thing Does look cool huh? :D But with this 4x4 WLtoys not working out to well for me I'm kinda reluctant to :$
what's wrong with it?
Well.. the stearing-servo failed on it's first run.. And well the shocks can't be oil-filled :| So the ride is kinda springy..
A springy ride isn't good. Can you get a new servo for that reciever, or do you need to replace the receiver? This would be great to know.
oh, and can you get other tires for this truck?
I have visited the Ebay page, with the purpose of buying one, but I am disturbed by the fact that it says it says it speaks of two categories of carts, some originals, and other Chinese. Which of the two do you recommend? Please. Thank you
there is another similartruck called Feiyu Fy-03. do u think its better than that
Well.. to be honnest, I didn't really like the quality (shocks / servo) of this WLtoys car.. So there is a good chance the Feiyu car would work out better...
I see this car on a lot of other channels and there got a other trans like yours.they had two trim knobs and the mode button did nothing.you can't fill the shocks with oil because there's no sealing. is it good after a while you drive it?
Yeah.. the only way is to replace the shocks, if you want oil-fillled ones..
Well sure! With a few mods the car is quite nice :)
alright thanks 👌
Hello Dutch. I have the Feiyue FY-03 version of this car which it pretty much identical in every way. Like yourself, I swapped the rear shocks to oil filled one, however, I want to ask you whether the state of the battery can affect the life of the motor.
So far I have changed the 540 brushed motor three times. Each time I find the motor runs for about five charges then burns out. At one point one of the motors even burnt out the ESC. Apart from the shocks the car is standard. Regards
Halloa Alex :)
hmmm that IS a bit of a short life-span huh? I did not have that problem myself. Now brushed motors never last as long as brushless motors, but obviously 5 runs is far to fast for the motor to burn out..
Could it be your car has some kind of resistance in the drive-line so the wear on the motor is this severe?
Your suggestion of resistance seems a good one. I'll check the diff's and drive train, however, when I put in a new motor I always grease the cogs.
check.. do run your motors in by the way? That usually Does help..
ruclips.net/video/BGS1T_SK22U/видео.html
Regards
:D Onyx is still doing fine ;) He actually showed up in my latest camera-tests :D
But yep.. a tried & true practice for brushed motors.. The motor will runn better & last longer if treated that way.. Basically you're wet-sanding the magnets & brushes that way :)
You sound like the Jeorge Sprav of RC :D
Ha! :D I hadn't heard that one before ;) I do offten get 'sounds like Sean Connery' for some reason :|
which one is better to get this or eagle 3
Well I don't have experience with the Eagle 3 , but I think that car would be better then this WLtoys one..
change the tires for more grip!
Yeah.. that would help for sure :)
nice review... how about the motor? I actually just got one and noticed that the motor gets hot easily, is that normal??
As well as the annoying sound when controlling it, can I turn the sound off?
Newbie to RC here, appreciate your reply. :)
Hello Bernard :) the motor indeed gets a bit warm, but I don't think you should be worried about That..
Mine did not come with sound.. Does yours have some kind of speaker maybe? You could then just clip 1 of the wires on the speaker..
Kind regards!
i see... thank you so much for taking time to reply.. i am enjoying my 12428 now and added some spring from my broken gun haha! suspension improved!!
:D Good work Bernard! a good deal of the RC fun is improving the products huh? :)
last question sir.. this is my first time using a remote with adjustable turn and throtle... just noticed that when i push the trigger for reverse it takes two attempt. is that normal? is the first one for break?
also the trigger is too soft.. u really need to control it carefully.. is that how it is supposed to be?
Ah yes. that 2x for reverse is indeed common for these systems. This is to prevent you from driving forward and Then immediately run it in reverse (which could damage the car).
And yep. you need to get a feel for that.. You will get used to it :)
Hi is there a link to changing the rear stock?
Hi there :) Nope.. not that I know off.. I simply used shocks I had in my parts-bin...
Too much oil in shocks. They can be screwed down to increase tension.
oil in the shocks? :| at the time I bought mine it didn't come with oil in the shocks
and BTW the shocks are no oil filled
True :)
what the heck it looks like my twin hammers!
Ghehe yeps.. like I said: more & more cars like this are showing up..
Here is another one: www.banggood.com/Syaheli-112-2_4G-4WD-Desert-Off-Road-Truck-Eagle-3-RC-Car-FY03-p-984621.html?p=TO251813974002015038
they clone any RC these days!
I don't think that practice is restricted to only RC things ;)
ok thx
rock climbing rc trucks must have shocks like that to climb u know it is not for real ramps and stuff
Okee. that Is true.. But with an advertised top speed of 50Km/h they don't sell it as a rock climber?
can someone help me look for a adaptor for charger
I think your local electronics store would be the easiest route?
You sound like hemistorm
I'll take that as a compliment ;)
then again.. we're both Dutch so I guess that makes sense :)
@@DutchRC yup i knew that hes dutch when he made a video to his arsenal the green and orange cap he said it reminds him that hes dutch nice vid btw bro 😁😁
@@bggalvan4973 :D yeah.. you can definitely hear he is Dutch as well I think ;)
Thank you! :)
Good video!... The car less... 😅
Thank you sir! :D ghehe yeps... quite a bit ;)
Just got mine today! and saw this video inspired me to ride it outside. by the way, how do you stiffen those rear suspension?
Here's a vid of what I did. ruclips.net/video/VjWkn9hqg3U/видео.html
Pretty nice video sir! :D
Well.. I just replaced that shocks + springs with a set that I had in the parts bin..
Thank you!
I am pretty new at this RC thing, so Ill probably just visit the nearest Hobby Shop here... hehehe.. Thank you for the reply
Visiting the local hobby store is Never a bad idea :) And you are welcome!
appreciate
nice video but work on your English pronunciation
Thanks Mika :) Ah yeah.. I know it's not perfect ;)
bra you are not going fast
Correct.. I'm actually set on a chair right now :P
Hope Horizon hobby has some good lawyers.Complete rip off brand!!
There is a good chance HH buys their cars from WLtoys (or some other Chinese manufacturer like TFL or FS)..
