For the abrupt LVC, you can get a Lipo Alarm to warn you when you're getting low and need to turn around. Highly recommended, as they're useful on other models that don't have an LVC alarm.
Bangood now has metal upgrades, tires and shocks for this vehicle which may make it more stable at higher speeds. Also, you can add 50-60 shock oil to the shocks for better damping.
a 2200 mha battery in the back minimizes most problems I mean it would assist with the nose heavy jumps it would also assist on cornering as the added weight will push the rc buggy down lowering the high center of gravity
Going to buy it and upgrade it. I have a brushless motor that might work. I am going to get a better receiver. If I can, find a better battery pack. Maybe add a go pro and make some adventure videos or something. lol
Because of RCSaylor's and your reviews I got the 12428 and have to say thank you, I love it. Being my first ground R.C. I'm really impressed with it considering it's only $65.00. I just caught the 12423 (same basic running gear but it's a short course truck) on sale for the same price so ordered it and can't wait for it's arrival. If you haven't seen it check it out. *Dance the Skies*
I took the same truck and put dromida oil filled shocks on front.. arrma vortex shocks on rear. also running 1/12 tacon brushless set up! its been a fun little buggy.
It's pretty cheap here - for 63.99 USD with coupon code: WLTOYSG www.gearbest.com/rc-cars/pp_351315.html?wid=21&lkid=10424162 Sweet ruclips.net/video/6fblLlhvOLw/видео.html
Got to preload that front suspension when you are hitting the jumps if you dont want her to nosedive every time. takes a bit of practice but when you get it down it make them jumps nice and smooth
Hi Ryan, You have some good and interesting reviews. I'm a big WLtoys fan (They look at a design and make it better, and sell for less). I have 15 WL Helicopters (x5 V913, x2 V912 & x6 V911) Most are very modified. My V913 & 912 fly for 10-12 min and 9-10 respectively, on stock batteries) FYI; Use Superblades EZ (Trimmed & Balanced), on your V913's, people. Terrific Blades that work VERY well. I liked the comment that they are the TYCO of today. I''m also a long time HO & TYCO racer. I raced 1/10 RC cars and trucks (Traxxas Rustler and Associated Team Car, set up for the street, Pan cars on Paved Oval(s) and the first Yokomo 4wd for onroad) in the early heyday of our hobby (early to late 90's). I detail all this not so much to blow my own horn (Toot Toot), but to say; ALL RC cars & trucks NEED oil suspension. Why WLtoys didn't just add an O ring to the shock so it could hold oil is beyond me. SO, any of you who own this car (I have now x2 Across 12428's, $57 for Tomtop with their -$3 coupon!!), simply add an O ring from a 1/18 scale kit like Team Associated "18T2 Shock O Ring" #21332. Start with 30w silicone oil (search youtube for the howto's). Or, I adapted shocks I had left over from my 1/10 Traxxas Rustler (Rear) and Team Car (Front). Alloy shock bodies and wide choice of springs make it an adjustable car that can surpise and rival cars X5 time as expensive. BTW; It TRANSFORMS this car. And, seriously, you just don't NEED Brushless. This car runs terrific and you can get a NEO magnet, Replaceable Brushed Motor from Banggood for $9!! Unless you want to race, (you'll spend $500 , and then up to $1000 to do so) , THIS is absolutely the BEST bang for the buck I've ever seen. I've gotten back into RC cars because of this 12428 Across. SO much FUN, for NO money!! OK, that's my $.02 worth! ;-) Cheers Boots Langley La Mesa, ca
I love WLtoys Cars i have the WLtoys K929 1 / 18 Scale Realistic 4WD and this things flys...Been thinking about getting another ...This might be it ...Thanks Ryan...
Iv just bought this on monday HBP1803 4WD Rock crawler with 2.4GHz 4.8V 700mA Bi-motor 1 / 18 EU Plug - GREEN for £17 of Gearbest....Be good if you reviewed it ...Having Bi-Motors should have tons of torque.
Update: Just recieved it in the mail today and literally just opened box.. Wow fast shipping for coming across the ocean. For the money this little rc is really nice. Right out of box battery was charged to what extent not sure yet but all I did was put 3 AA's in controller and off she went. Wheeliing across the carpet in house. Its hole shots is like a yeti xl shrunk down the way it torc's lol. Shocks are way to soft first upgrade. Out of box just setting still they bottom out. Most likely from the battery weight in back and spare tire. Awesome rc and my little girls will love it if they can get it from old dad ;-)..
They do. Oil filled on the rear and it'0s a beast! It flips because the tear end doesn't correct! Jumps? all the the way up with real shocks in the rear... it is nose heavy, but on a bump the rear retract and expanse imediatelly! trows rear end in the air!
Seeing how fast it is reminds me of that movie with Tom Selleck and Gene Simmons. Gene was the bad guy with a super fast r/c car with a bomb on it chasing Tom as he drives around trying to out-maneuver the thing and not get blown up. Great movie.
Runaway! I loved that movie!! hahaha That's so weird that you brought that up, because I have mentioned that movie to so many people, and none of them had seen it. It also had those bullets that could turn corners, etc, and all those creepy robot spiders on the elevator at that construction site. Man, what an iconic movie. :D
ya! wasn't gene`s character named lazerus? that was the best thing gene ever did, imo. never was a big kiss fan but wow, he sure played the villain part in that movie better than anyone could have. to add: he was great at his roast.jeff ross- kiss, they made everything,,,except great music..bwahahahaha
After see your review, i buy it, well now i have Dessert Eagle and Across Country, well for this two rocker racer, look similar but the drive shaft totally different, for the Across Country a metal drive shaft and Dessert Eagle plastic durability drive shaft, well for the suspension for this green one totally soft... I had to adjust to make it stiff.
You could put a set of stiffer shock springs on it. That would tighten up the sway and it wouldnt flip on you so easily. Shock springs are really cheap.
Yea your right, brushless might be to much for crawling. I'm wondering if the 1-4 buttons is for the drive mode? I'll find out lol. Looking forward to experimenting with this. Looks like a axial bomber without the price lol..My kids will love it if they can get it away from ol dad lol..
I need to test those modes on my next run. I have a feeling I tried that button on my first run, and didn't notice it doing anything, so then I just forgot about it. Not really sure though...
I just checked the manual, and I see no mention of that modes button there either. I suspect it is just a left-over from this same transmitter being used for other models which may make use of that button.
Looks like they put all of the money into the vehicle! The TX seems to do the job like you said. Wow man my first though was "FPV that sucker" like I usually do, but yeah the suspension makes me wonder if it would be usable that way. WLToys is banging out some cool vehicles!
Dude.... very informative. just getting started back into the RC thing... after 10 years. are you a salesman for the company... just kidding. I want one.... thank you. great video..... Merry Christmas.
Haha, nope, just a reviewer who tells it like it is. :) When I like something, I let it be known. :) Merry Christmas to you too! Stick around and check out some of my other reviews... I have playlists set up to help you find similar reviews. :)
That looks bad to the bone nice! This might be perfect for my little girls. Whats cool is that the transmitter is smaller great for their hands. Yet I see it does flip easy and its not really the best you say for crawling. I wonder if I switched motor out to a brushless for crawling.
Yeah, this rolls very easily, so it takes a bit of experience to drive it well. And, I think a brushless motor would hurt it for crawling, because that would just add more speed. It is the gearing that would need to be changed to give more torque, instead of speed, in order for it to be a true rock crawler. It can do moderate crawling though, with a gentle touch on the throttle.
Seems somewhere between crawler and sand buggy. All the models seem to be a bit tippy. Might actually be good for learning on. It would certainly train for good cornering habits. Would likely tip a bit less if it was a little more damp and an lot less bouncy. Really enjoyed the review. Thanks for sharing.
id say its splashproof, not completely waterproof, ive seen other reviews that tested it and it could take a few puddles but cant be completely submerged in water, none the less ive ordered one since those things doesnt really bother me and thanks to reviews i know how good it is, its a 80 dollar rc car, its pretty damn good for the money, ive seen cars in the 100 range that is worse than this
Good review I almost bought one for my son. Some info you missed: The numbers are for speed control. No differential, which would explain why it flips as the inside tire is pushing the car instead of slowing down. It doesn't seem to have shocks, which would explain why the car nose dives, as the springs are rebounding as the car goes airborne. Wltoys is Chinese company, and so the quality and reliability are suspect For me, the $100 price just didn,t make sense considering this thing would crash and be prone to breaking often. Going with traxxas entry level for $130
Traxxas is very well known. They have almost everything. They even have their own audio system for the Slash that gives it a 900HP race truck sound, courtesy of Mike Jenkins!
WLtoys Rc's seem to be on the rise making good toy grade stuff like there boats !! fast !!! so are they new tyco of the 80's and 90's?? in this day and age we could use something better than Garbage steal your money NEW BRIGHT Rc... guess we will see. nice review ryan !!
they probably did the li-ion version to get the hard shell casing, for safety reasons. i have only ever seen lipo come in the flat foil packs, which are less durable of course. especially since li-ion doesn't usually have the discharge rate as li-po does. but maybe i'm way off.
Great vid Ryan as usual , car seems very fast for only a brushed motor, I honestly can't see it driving any faster with the quality of the car, Dutch RC did a good review and his first run the steering servo broke and ended that , wonder if it was a fluke, don't know , he wasn't driving insane or anything , breaking like that should not have happened, maybe after 10/20 hard hits , ok you live n learn but the way it broke , I just don't know, I thought about getting one .BUT!
Banggood has them on sale for $70 right now. I do like it but think it needs more torque than speed. I want one for going on my walking trails. I like the ride highth and suspension. I would add two more shocks or stabilizers in the rear, thats a good set up but dont like that its too loose. A stiffer suspension wouldnt save it I think it would flip faster. Mabe lower the rear a bit would do it. I wont be buying one till spring and honestly think I will pass on that. I do think its better than the Drominda truggy and nicely priced.
Hey Ryan - whats your take on the WLtoys(Gymax or Costzon names on Amazon) 1:12 4WD 2.4G Remote Control Off Road Car Truck Buggy Crawler. LED lights - driver & passenger. Could not find a review on that one?
They state 7 to 10 days from hong Kong. Pretty quick considering. I also ended up ordering 2 other crawlers to give WLtoys a shot too see what there made of.
Free shipping from China generally takes about a month, in my experience. But I've had anywhere from 6 days to 6 weeks, so it can really vary. Yes, the LEDs are plenty bright. :)
Thanks for the info. I also ordered up 2 WL 10428A wild tracks. Lets hope they all get here :-/ ? First time with ordering things straight from Hong Kong..I'm not planning on beating the heck out of these rc's, yet just adding them to collection and doing some soft crawling and walking trails with young kids. I'll call these 3 rc's "the poor mans axial bomber and wraith additions" lol. They do look just like e'm don't ya think :-)
I did one in the past, but it would simply take way too long to show everything now, especially taking it all out of storage, and putting it back, etc. I don't really have a great way of displaying stuff. I basically just have a ton of boxes stacked up all over my house now. lol
Chip McBride I can't do that, because I wouldn't feel comfortable selling some of these things to someone if they didn't have the experience to fly them. And I just don't want to deal with that. heh So, I give them away to family and friends, and have been getting those people the experience they need to move up to the higher end stuff that I have to give. :)
Hi, I have just bought 12427 but having a problem. 15 seconds after switching on, car just cut off. Steering works but no movement at all and LED lights starts flashing. Any idea how to fix please??
Im years late but do u think if i unplug the lights do u think i will gain a lil bit more power and run time. Also. Ur charger doesnt look like a normal usa type style plug i.
nice review... how about the motor? I actually just got one and noticed that the motor gets hot easily, is that normal?? As well as the annoying sound when controlling it, can I turn the sound off? Newbie to RC here, appreciate your reply. :)
Yes, it is normal for the motor to get hot, but you should try to not run it too hard, because of the motor gets TOO hot, that can damage it. Not really sure what you mean about the sound, but that is likely normal and nothing you can do about it.
hi sir.. i am planning to buy another battery here in local store.. however it is a liPo battery but the same voltage. Is it ok to use the stock or the same charger for it?
Probably have to get it online. Most hobby shops only carry American brands. Well, that's assuming you're in America. No idea what hobby shops outside of America carry.
I don't understand what you mean by "i can hear the transmitter sound". Maybe you turned up the throttle trim, so the throttle is being triggered without moving the throttle trigger?
Not easily. And then you have the issue of the frame not being designed to handle the extra power of a brushless motor. If you want brushless, I suggest going with a model that is designed to be brushless.
Yes but i am just planning to buy a weaker brushless motor. I just wanna improve the speed a bit. I bought this coz it's cheap. I hope that i won't need to buy a new transmitter coz i have a tight budget. Is it ok? XD
You can't just pop in a brushless motor like that. You would need a new speed controller, and likely a new battery and electronics. Brushless motors require more power than this electronic system is designed to deliver. Also, this vehicle isn't meant for speed... it's more of an offroad and crawler type of vehicle. I think you'll be happy with the speed of the brushed motor once you actually run the vehicle in person.
It's called a 4 link suspension. Trophy Trucks have that sort of suspension.
I bought one because of this video, and I absolutely love it. Probably one of the best purchases I've ever made.
Glad to hear that! :)

Gearbest. It came with a better controller.
Renegade Llama Really!? That's interesting!

Yep, to manually switch between different frequencies.

nope
You can
Are the suspension arms on the back made of medal or plastic ?? Is the drive shaft medal as well ??
you can buy upgrade parts, i think theres a full metal driveshaft you can buy for this truck
Just bought one for the heck of it :-) Looks like a cool little rc! Thanks Ryan

love that you are doing more land vehicle reviews now. thank you soooo much! can you do a review on the gptoys s912 please
Your right the little shocks don't have any rebound control. I still really like it and WL TOYS STUFF in general.
One Two you’re
Pretty sweet for the price. Decent review too thanks
Glad you liked it. :)
Ryan, it shouldn't bounce when you drop it, those shocks are bad and probably need fluid, that would help ALOT. thx for the videos!
okay you have encouraged me I will get one thanks for such a great review
Glad you found my review helpful! :)
cool little machine!
Looks like they put all of the money into the vehicle!
The TX seems to do the job like you said.
Wow man my first though was "FPV that sucker" like I usually do, but yeah the suspension makes me wonder if it would be usable that way.
WLToys is banging out some cool vehicles!
Seems like the soft suspension would be great for FPV, since the body stays pretty stable, instead of bouncing all over the place. :)
I was thinking about the back end kicking up, but yessir on the flats it would probably be smooth sailing on camera

Yeah, in the RC world, "waterproof" really means "water resistant". They are never/rarely meant to actually be submerged.
might be looking forward to buying this!
It's a good one! :) There is a short course truck version too, btw.
I love wltoys can you do more?
Good review
I almost bought one for my son. Some info you missed:

Plastic internal gears, but hey! $75! I'm getting one. Freaking awesome deal for the price
Love this car Ryan!!!
The mode is different channels for multiple vehicle use
Yep, different frequencies but stil in the 2.4 GHz band.

Hmm, hard to say. Could've just been a fluke. I ran mine pretty hard and never broke anything.
Ryan I'm not sure if this is a fact but I herd this somewhere that it shuts of because it's over heating
Also is the "spare" tire real or fake
I believe the spare is a real usable wheel.
The spare tire is infact usable
great video keep up the good work it's awesome
Thanks! :)
There seems to be a driver inside the buggy. Those details...
Good review Ryan!
nice Lil kit. has sum wat appears to be 1.9 beadlocks
It wont overheat because it cuts out before it will
Great review, mine seems to overheat if I run it to hard then just kills power to the rear wheels.
Safety cutoff. Most RC vehicles should have safety cutoffs when they overheat
Also the emergency stop is too not damage the vehicle
Banggood has them on sale for $70 right now. I do like it but think it needs more torque than speed. I want one for going on my walking trails. I like the ride highth and suspension. Hey Ryan - whats your take on the WLtoys(Gymax or Costzon names on Amazon) 1:12 4WD 2.4G Remote Control Off Road Car Truck Buggy Crawler. LED lights - driver & passenger. Could not find a review on that one?
you should buy the 10428 version

I'll call these 3 rc's "the poor mans axial bomber and wraith additions" lol. They do look just like e'm don't ya think :-)
What's up Ryan? you should do a collections video sometime. I would love to see how you display all of your RC's.
I did one in the past, but it would simply take way too long to show everything now, especially taking it all out of storage, and putting it back, etc. I don't really have a great way of displaying stuff. I basically just have a ton of boxes stacked up all over my house now. lol
+Flyin' Ryan RC.... Have a yard sale:)
+Flyin' Ryan RC nice. Same here. As I upgrade, I pass on the hand me downs to get others involved. I appreciate your videos BTW, keep'm coming.
It's practically the same as the dessert eagle 3 with a few changes
ONLY 84 dollars?! That seems cheap! As always, great review and run :)
Yeah, it's a lot of car for the price. :)
+Flyin' Ryan RC can you do the dji 4 btw i love your vids☺
Orozco Juan Not likely... too expensive. :/
+Flyin' Ryan RC ok but nice vids i wish good luck to get to 1000000 supers
+Flyin' Ryan RC oops ment sups
Hey man can you do a comparision between the WLtoys 12428, JJRC Q39 and the FY 03? They're almost the same and I'm going to get one
Where has Ryan been flyin?!
You can add brushless motor easy for more speed:)
Hi Ryan, can you please guide me through the ESC calibration for this model?
Hi, I have just bought 12427 but having a problem. 15 seconds after switching on, car just cut off. Steering works but no movement at all and LED lights starts flashing. Any idea how to fix please??
Other than the body & maybe the tyres is this the same vehicle as the 12423?
Der kantig kross ist echte 👍👍👍👌
Does it have a rear Differential? There's gotta be a front one, but what bout the back?
Ryan does the wheel at the back come pff
I believe so, but I am not certain.
Luv the review me dude
it looks great!
hey flyin Ryan rc can you do a review on wltoys v398 Rc helicopter and vmax ty901
Im years late but do u think if i unplug the lights do u think i will gain a lil bit more power and run time. Also. Ur charger doesnt look like a normal usa type style plug i.
Any idea how these bind? Wanna u 12428 all in one esc, servo and transmitter for another rc
What's a good car that can go on ramps and is durable for under 100
for a bit more than a 100 you can get a vaterra kalahari
Does scale matter, if not then get a 1/18 - 1/16.
Have you had any problems with ordering from gearbest?
Nope, and I've placed many many orders there. :)
I've ordered a wltoys 969, and it has been delayed for a week. ;-;
Hey ryan did you try the new rc subotech pathfinder..
Das glaube ich nicht schon bei der ersten Testfall von kros Caunti hattet gebrannt 😂
hey Ryan, can you review the syma x54hw drone I am excited for this
Yes, I will be reviewing that. :)
+Flyin' Ryan RC waiting 4 your next video ^▁^
it does not stop on u it just has a heat Senor built in that is why
Great video no music
i'm lovin it !
This is a fun one indeed. :)
nice review... how about the motor? I actually just got one and noticed that the motor gets hot easily, is that normal??
As well as the annoying sound when controlling it, can I turn the sound off?
Newbie to RC here, appreciate your reply. :)
Yes, it is normal for the motor to get hot, but you should try to not run it too hard, because of the motor gets TOO hot, that can damage it. Not really sure what you mean about the sound, but that is likely normal and nothing you can do about it.
i see... thank u so much for the help.
another thing.. do u have any link that sells battery and parts of 12428?
hi sir.. i am planning to buy another battery here in local store.. however it is a liPo battery but the same voltage. Is it ok to use the stock or the same charger for it?
Do a review on the wl toys drift car!!
WL toys seems like the new NIKKO.
What kind of wall charge plug is that? How do you use it on a standard US power outlet?
Killshot 50 Cal. Adapter
does the wall charger work in standard us wall outlets? it looks kind of oddly sized
Depending on where you buy it, they might send an adapter with it. Otherwise, you can buy an adapter for a buck or so.
alright. Thanks!
The Plug to connect the battery is not usual , i have some lipPO batterys but o cannot plug them into the car. What should i do ?
You either need to see if you can find an adapter, or you have to replace the plug on either the car or your batteries.
its a rockcrawler that's why the suspension is like that
Nah, it's a buggy. It *can* crawl, but the speed/gearing is definitely not like a traditional crawler.
Flyin' Ryan RC oh well the rear suspension just looked like it was meant for crawling
Is it waterproof ? Planning to buy here in Ph
can they be found at our local Hobby store or do I have to order it online?
Probably have to get it online. Most hobby shops only carry American brands. Well, that's assuming you're in America. No idea what hobby shops outside of America carry.
surely a brushless conversion wouldn't be too hard would it?
No idea, really. You would have to change the ESC and battery too, I believe.
Anyone know what the modes are ? Also how to turn off the led headlights?
Sound like Dax Shepard 👍
Hah, that's a new one. I've been told I sound like a lot of people, but never him before.
nice Review but nicer socks 😂
LOL :)~
hi again, i encountered an issue. it seem that at times, it runs by itself. i can hear the transmitter sound, but i didnt press it. any ideas thx
I don't understand what you mean by "i can hear the transmitter sound". Maybe you turned up the throttle trim, so the throttle is being triggered without moving the throttle trigger?
Is the stock battery a lipo or a lithium ion? Just wondering before I buy it
I forget, but I think I covered that in the review, didn't I?
Sir, is it possible to upgrade to brushless system even if i use the same stock radio controller and receiver? Please reply. Thank you
I see, sir. Thanks a lot! I'll just stick to buying 2s and metal diffs just in case they give up.
