  • Trooper's Summary:
While on patrol near the below listed venue, 50Mash put out a BOL of a suspect vehicle that was involved in a retail fraud and felonious assault with Utica Police Department. They advised Utica was chasing the suspect and the suspect vehicle rammed their patrol car several times. After a short pursuit Utica Police Department terminated their chase at M53 and 27 Mile Road. The description of the suspect vehicle was a gold Jeep. I was traveling westbound 32 Mile Road from North Avenue when 50Mash advised that the suspect vehicle was last seen eastbound on 32 Mile Road. As I approached Romeo Plank Road on 32 Mile Road I observed the suspect vehicle traveling eastbound. I turned around and began following the suspect vehicle. I was waiting for back up before activating my patrol car lights. The suspect vehicle accelerated, entered the westbound lanes and began passing vehicles traveling eastbound on 32 Mile. I activated my lights and sirens, the suspect vehicle failed to pull over. I advised 50 Mash and Station 20 that I was involved in a pursuit. The driver was subsequently identified as Joseph Lee Jackson and arrested for fleeing elude, resisting obstructing, and driving on a suspended license and turned over to Utica Police Department.

It also depends on if they can see him. Most of the time they were pulled over, the MSP vehicle was at least for a time, not directly behind the jeep, which otherwise would have been obstructing the view of his light for traffic in the distance.

That has to be the luckiest FELON DRIVER ever recorded. No Seat belt, ejected in roll-over, but mostly un-injured. Might be hurt and in shock, but able to stand up and respond to the officer's commands. Remarkable.
Most folks ejected are busy dying about the time the officer gets close enough to say anything. The most common verbalization by officers after a typical roll-over ejection of an unbelted driver is "Dispatch, ah, don't bother with an ambulance, just send a hearse to collect the, ah, parts."
In a roll-over ejection scene, the outcomes are NOT often pretty.
