Great Pit. For those interested, Linda Mankel, 49, pleaded no contest to third-degree fleeing police officer, assault with a dangerous weapon, and malicious destruction of fire/police property. In October, 2021, she was sentenced to 4-10 years in prison with credit for 110 days served. Apparently the other seven charges were dropped, which could have given her a life sentence with a "habitual offender" enhancement.
Mankel, who is a member of the Chippewa Indian Tribe, was previously charged with multiple crimes regarding a missing infant case in 2019, according to WILX News 10. According to that news station, police arrested Mankel and her adult daughter Ilah Mankel, in Clinton County after Ilah was ordered to give up her newborn daughter but did not. Ilah was ordered to give up her custodial rights when the child was born and the infant was supposed to go into protective custody after an order was issued by the state. Michigan State Police said the family was aware of this but they took off with the infant anyway. Police arrested Linda and Ilah who did not have the baby with them, but police were able to eventually locate the infant and return her to the Isabella Indian Reservation. Ilah was charged with parental kidnapping while Linda was charged with giving police a false name, resisting and obstruction of justice and possession of heroin.

Officer, you should have used the pit maneuver when you had the chance at the off ramp she used to get back on, and in the wrong direction. Screw permission from dispatch.
To all the people that want to know why the Officer asked for permission, a PIT is a very dangerous maneuver that can get innocent people involved. The Standard for a PIT is 35mph or below. A high speed pit will increase the potential for collateral injury's or death. Because it can be so dangerous, permission to perform a PIT is required.

For the safety of the public, these officers put their lives on the line to end the pursuit. I'm of the belief that if a perpetrator has total disregard for public safety, as demonstrated here, law enforcement officers should have justification to utilize deadly force. All State Highway Patrols should have trained 'sniper' troopers with 50 caliber rifles. Setup at a roadblock and place a well aimed shot into the engine. Better yet, a well aimed shot into the driver.

This is the type of idiocy that the police have to deal with these days, it's inexcusable they ended up having to let this person potentially kill someone because they couldn't pit.
Wow! I want to know what kind of tire rim can last that long going 85mph! That's amazing! Usually in an RV a blown out steer tire is nearly impossible to control on the road! They sell Steer Safe stabilizer bars to help for this instance but this camper was sure and steady for mile after mile going at high speed!!! Most all RV'ers go maybe 65 tops yet this old coot was doing 85 on that rim!! Alcoa is a good rim!

Judge: "Officer, is it normal policy to prolong a chase as long as humanly possible in order to put as many public lives in danger or .... do you EVER consider a PIT???" Pitting her as soon as her front left was flat and the highway was clear would have avoided all this.
Due to the fact that the criminals are always suing departments for damages from being arrested for breaking the law and wining because juries get made up of 12 stupid people who believe people should not be accountable for their actions, almost all law enforcement agencies now require a senior officer to authorize the use of a pit maneuver. Welcome to criminals having more rights than law abiding citizens.

I honestly think law enforcement needs the ability to use their own judgement and PIT a vehicle without waiting for permission. There are so many of these videos out there that go on for way too long either because they're waiting to get permission to PIT or, honestly, they don't know how to effectively and efficiently do it.
I agree way to long looked like he had several opportunities to stop it
And I strongly disagree
Think goodness there was a cop that kept telling big mouths to CLAM DOWN
Pit better get their act together wait way to long watch alot of videos notice traffic is clear for miles just keep pursuing
From the evedence presented in thousands of videos here, cops are too damned stupid to make these choices on their own.

The injury/death of anyone on board would be on the driver of the RV, not anyone else. Well, that’s how it SHOULD work anyway.
So you let them take a chance on injuring or killing some one else. There was a perfect place to PIT and the idiot in charge said no.
Yep. It could be a kidnapping, or a whole family in there...just don't know, and a pit maneuver could cost innocent lives, just taking a chance either way.
the fact that a LEO has to ask for permission to pit is ridiculous.
Soft judges should be replaced.
I've got no problem giving her the maximum sentence.

Officer, you should have used the pit maneuver when you had the chance at the off ramp she used to get back on, and in the wrong direction. Screw permission from dispatch.
Disappointed that they didn't show the face of the P.O.S. driver.
To all the people that want to know why the Officer asked for permission, a PIT is a very dangerous maneuver that can get innocent people involved. The Standard for a PIT is 35mph or below. A high speed pit will increase the potential for collateral injury's or death.
Because it can be so dangerous, permission to perform a PIT is required.
pit move should of been done on the on ramp !
Probably not a good idea to get in front of someone who is carelessly driving. You never know if they have a gun and willing to go farther.
It's called a rolling roadblock. Once they pit the vehicle they have the option to either pit or rolling roadblock if speeds are right condition.
That would have been a beautiful pit at 85mph, clean up would have been a mess though

This perpetrator put so many people's lives in danger. Her actions are really no different then randomly shooting a firearm.
