    I was going to comment this on one of your recent book videos, but chickened out. Now I have to say it -- I'm not officially Catholic yet, but started converting a year ago. I read Confessions last spring and while that book is not what started my conversion, it truly solidified for me that I needed to see this conversion through. I never thought that I (American woman in my 30s) could or would relate so heavily with a 4th century bishop from North Africa. St. Augustine described so many things that could have come straight from my own thoughts and memories. Definitely finish that book!

      Thank you for sharing your story with us, Kat! It is a beautiful example of the Communion of Saints helping each other. We're so happy to hear that you are on this journey into the Catholic Church , and we'll definitely pray for you. St. Augustine has helped you, and now you have helped me to be motivated to finish reading his book :)

    3:00 Another way is to read Essay Collections.
    Chesterton's The Well and the Shallows; Utopia of Usurers; Eugenics and Other Evils ... (wait, no, that one is a monography, I just checked), and a few more are less "one book" than twenty-odd small booklets. You don't have to read all of them to enjoy one or two when it suits you.
    Btw, the format I mainly propose for my blog to book idea. Blog posts are (usually) essays (and those that are dialogues would need the approval from the co-authors, those I debated and then published the debates on some of my blogs without asking first), and that means you can collect them in exactly the same way.

    You two are way too cute. Thank you for sharing your videos! I am working through a conversion experience that I experienced before last Christmas. This year I am watering the seed that Jesus has planted in my heart. It has some problem soil to grow through! I am drawn to Catholicism, but I have lots of fears and philosophical conundrums to work out. I am learning the history of the Bible, reading scripture, praying the rosary, and exploring catechism gradually. Your channel is a great resource! God bless :)

    I too am doing St. Faustina’s Diary in a Year after completing Bible in a Year and Catechism in a Year over the last 2 years. Fr. Joe’s podcasts are a great accompaniment to Donna Marie Cooper O’Boyle’s “52 Weeks with Saint Faustina”. Thanks for sharing this list! Thank you so much for all you do, you're both so inspiring with your joy and positivity, thank you. I'm sorry if you already know about this, I just wanted to mention the Catholic Classics Podcast from Ascension (with Fr. Gregory Pine and Fr. Jacob Bertrand). They have done a read through of St Augustine's Confessions. I think it's about 60 episodes of 20-30 mins where they read a bit and reflect on it, a bit like how Fr Mike does with the Bible and the Catechism. I just thought if you want to read the Confessions and enjoyed the Bible in a Year/Catechsim in a year then you might enjoy that podcast. Sorry if you're already family with that. Thank you so much again to both of you and God bless you for 2024.

    9:33 Spoiler alert : St. Augustine is converted by the prayers of his mother, St. Monica. At least that's the analysis of St. Ambrose.
    As for St. Augustine himself, there was probably a child calling out "tolle lege" (perhaps to count someone out for hide and seek) and him overhearing it.

    I got St. Zachariah when I used the old saint generator. I am not quite sure what I can do about learning more about him. I am praying the prayer in the Magnificat regularly (hopefully daily). I am open to ideas on how I can get closer or learn more about him. Just curious, have you ever encouraged your CCD students to pick a saint? I am considering it for our first class of the year. I don't have as many fun things as you have planned. I am participating in Bible in a year. I am sort of struggling with jumping around the Bible a bit. It is definitely not as straightforward as CIY. I plan to read at least six spiritual books, mostly the ones I will get from Sophia Press but I do have others in my little personal library. I have also tried to commit to reading the Magnificat evening prayer daily. I have not done so in the past and decided to make it part of an evening routine. So far, three days in, I have been able to remember to do it. Let's see how I fare once I return to work. And thanks for spotlighting me on the "quick reads." That is up my alley! I will try to check it out today. I love hoopla. HAPPY NEW YEAR! (p.s. I love the shots with Kate and the kitties. That hiss was classic!)

    • @catholicmomanddaughter
      @catholicmomanddaughter  6 месяцев назад +1

      The kitties were not living together in harmony as per the instructions in Psalm 133, so that was not good or pleasant, lol. You have some really good plans, Ann! The Magnificat is a really wonderful resource. Like you, though, we are not always good here about reading it daily. St. Zachariah is a tough one! You would almost need to find a good book about the Visitation with him in it. We will look around here and see if we can come up with any titles for you. The Domestic Monastery reminded us of you right away since you work with little ones all day. We think you will like what the author has to say about that!

    • @catholicmomanddaughter

      Also- yes, I have had my students pick a saint for the year. I think they enjoyed the picking part, and I even had one student take the name of his saint of the year in 7th grade as his confirmation saint 3 years later, so that was neat!

    I googled Ronald Rolheiser, and he is a controversial priest. Several Catholic outlets have highlighted some of his questionable writings, Women of Grace, Catholic Culture website, The Catholic Messenger, to name a few. The fact that there is discussion about his writing not being completely orthodox, would make me leary of reading any of his books.
