  • In this video I'm doing troubleshooting in real time on a Cub Cadet Z Force zero tun mower. The original issue was that the mower would not do anything, no start, no crank, no clicking either, it was completely dead.

My push to start (RZT) got water in it. Probably from me spraying the dirt and dust off the machine. I pulled the bezel and the "seal" which doesn't seal anything, cleaned it off. dried it out and sprayed a bit of WD40 on it and....PRESTO!

Glad you got it running again and didn't have to buy the expensive module

Very instructional. I think mice have chewed at some of the wiring as I've checked the battery and safety switches, and replaced the fuse, solenoid and even ignition switch but still just get a click. Haven't found any damaged wire yet though. BTW in case I need to replace a section of wire do you know the wire specs?

Since you do get a click and you have replaced the solenoid I would check if you get power to the starter since that could be your issue but also check the voltage at solenoid and at the starter if you are even getting power to it. If your voltage drops between the battery and starter you may have a short somewhere.

I appreciate your teaching but you need to explain slower. you have done a great job finding the broken wire. First question: why did you turn the key on to test; Second question, I noticed that the tester lead was placed on the Negative post and then later on the Positive post. I hope you understand I have no experience but I am willing to learn. Thanks and God Bless.

Thank you for watching and answer to your first question is, I turned the key On to power up the circuit that I'm testing. The second question, when I have the lead connected to the negative I'm testing circuits for power+ and when the lead was on the positive terminal I was looking for ground.

Ive got cub cadet rzt42. When i put in key i get display and battery level etc. But when i push the key in it does NOTHING no clicking or anything. Then if i just hold key in, (sometimes) it will try to crack and sometimes crack. Its like flywheel hanging or something. I don't know where to start.
    Sometimes i get E-4 error.

I made a video on a Cub Cadet with push start ignition module that had failed if you like to go check it out. I would start with making sure battery is good and all ground connections are tighten. Then start checking start solenoid circuit and be looking for voltage dropping....

@mr_fixit the battery voltage drops when it does try cranking. I'm thinking solenoid is bad. Took off yesterday cleaned connections. Started fine all day yesterday. Then today it wouldn't do anything. Then it will finally turn over and crank.

Solenoid can also do that. It is a magnet. The key turns on and the electric goes down the small wire turns on a magnet. The magnet spins the switch. the switch connects the high voltage (starter cables). that was why he said a screw driver with sparks jumps the posts
A binex (worm gear) problem can also do that. That is the screw gear on the starter that climbs up and engages the flywheel. If damaged it is all about if the bindex is bound by damaged bears and cant climb, typical tap the starter with a rubber mallet or wood (soft stuff) to juggle the damage. On that starter he showed it is in that top 1/3 section.
