I really liked the Lacrae shoutouts on the track. Labeling yourself as a Christian rapper is a way to guarantee that the larger music world is gonna label you corny no matter what. And Kendrick having his faith such an important part of not just his life, but even his music. I can see him respecting someone like Lacrae and what he stands for. Especially when his problems with Drake are more about what he represents.
Bro what you said at the end is actually so true. The mutually beneficial relationship of unhealthy coping between drake and his fan base is so prevalent. Maybe it’s because of the hqte towards him in the past few years or something from his childhood but he is oddly not self sufficient
He’s not self confident and his locus of validation is very much external to himself. Kendrick is the opposite. He seems to know his mind, have strong convictions and a healthy self confidence. I think he read Aubrey’s psychology pretty well from what can be seen from a distance, and there’s a lot to empathise in Drake if he were only able to be vulnerable like he was at the start. He was pretty endearing back then, when he was being authentic, but he’s surrounded himself with the wrong sort of people, maybe. They say a person’s maturity can arrest at the age when they became famous and I wonder if there might be truth to that, especially if your surroundings don’t encourage personal growth in any real sense. He seems lost. Long ago.

@@nilyaj Yes, Vince is beyond gifted in communicating and utilizing art to express himself. The ability in creating a level of relatability only experienced in pop puff pieces, with a subject matter that is social issues truly is a one of one this generation imo. It's been fascinating to me, having an under5standing of the science and probability behind these kind of traits presenting themselves in a person, and seeing this is an artist I like. His socio-political insights on his few interviews showcase that Vince is objectively more intelligent than the majority of politicians you see on TV. Regardless though, main thing is dude seems to be on the Tyler Perry without shenanigans route of fame due to his ability to turn any and all projects he works on into gold. A very good thing since the film media landscape has been so dumb lately due to nonsense and people equating their fear of failure or dislike from the public to political pressure.
The way I view it, 6:16 was his asking god to forgive what he's about to do and this is Kendrick asking god to forgive him for what he just did and explaining why he did so.
Im starting to think that the people who think this is a drake diss don't know Kendricks discography. Kendricks entire catalog since section 80 has been a critique of black culture and hiphop culture pointing out the destructive things he doesn't like about the culture. His music was always about that. Drake just so happens to embody a lot of those things. So now every time that Kendrick drops a song critiquing the problems in the black community and black music industry is everyone going to say he's talking about Drake now? Is the Heart Part 4 and 5 now about Drake? Is The whole To Pimp a Butterfly about drake now? And have the people complaining about this song being "slow" ever heard TPAB, this isn't uncommon for him, he dont make twerk in the club, spin the block music. Its sounds like Not Like Us and Like That was the first time these people heard Kendrick and now that they cant crip walk and twerk to this song they're like "wtf is this boring crap?"
Ur right but it’s also true that the shoe happens to fit like a glass slipper. This isn’t a Drake diss but Drake is a pretty good representation of everything Kendrick is against so of course every bar sounds like it’s toward him
It’s because introspection reminds people profiting off of hip hop without giving back (Akademiks, Drake etc) don’t like being reminded Black people are human beings and not the ‘hood’ characatures that they describe to their massive audiences. Why does Akademiks get irrationally angry when Kendrick says things like: ‘we should want and expect better of our communities’? Why does he whine and say they’re “too preachy” when rappers aren’t talking about money and heaux? HE wants to keep all the ratchet in rap cuz it sells and further perpetuates the American “Blacks are lazy” narrative that he ascribes to. Akademiks and his ilk are GROSS.
@@astrocade9541100% this. He’s almost a caricature with how much he embodies all of it. He’s certainly become the figurehead of all the qualities/habits that Kendrick hates having influence over his beloved hip hop over the years.
I mean I understand your point, and even agree with a lot of it. He has for sure critiqued the culture, outside of Drake, his whole career. But during those same albums he has also consistently took shots at Drake. lol So both things are true. I think that's less of an issue for Kendrick, and more of an issue of the listeners not being able to have nuance or critical thinking. Because if you really listen to his music, you know Kendrick despises things about the culture outside of artists like Drake, but he also hates what Drake represents. And I think he smartly used the Drake beef to expand his message and now attack the industry who hijacked the culture as a whole post beef. Because the reasons Kendrick dislikes Drake are for reasons much bigger than Drake himself, and that's where we are now with Kendrick. This is the epilogue of the battle. Becuase Drake was the catalyst, but now Kendrick is on to the bigger picture.

It’s bigger than Drake. The people who can’t see beyond dancing and smoking, drinking, guns and money, they’re gonna stay in that place. Kendrick is only talking to the people who want to do better, to be better. To move the culture forward beyond superficial silly stuff.
In the portion that Kendrick censored himself I think he said..."I want to be empathetic My heart by D1 But I might fuck around and kill a man, I'll park ya son" I genuinely think this might have been one of 5+5's. Might have been a call back to Euphoria. My theory is that he censored himself because he wants to move on past drake...on to bigger systems.
it’s definitely some variation on ‘but I will kill a man in front of his son’. you’re right about the rhyme being ‘son’ but I’m sure it was something too out there to say uncensored, not a callback edit: he kinda did kill a man in front of his son if you think about it lmao

“Revolving door of pathetic tendencies” 🔥!
Long ago.
My ass got straight jumpscared when Kendrick mentioned Lecrae. My southern-baptist Bible thumping family listened to nothing but Christian stations and Lecrae was one of the maybe six rappers I even knew growing up. Damn.
The end credits theme. End of the beef. Beginning of a new chapter.
The beef never ends!! We all want Kendrick to keep pressing until Drake begs for forgiveness💯💯
He will talk about Drake again, even if he tries to be subtle about it. He will. He's where he is right now because of Drake.
@@justinchengtknah we pass that lol

Honestly, I’m just glad listeners like Shawn can comprehend this track, bc apparently nobody listens to rap anymore (just the instrumental)
The shoe fits Dj Ak the most.
Yes definitely. I saw react to it and he looked almost uncomfortable. I loved to see it.

I actually love it all, the beats the lyrics its calming
Shawns opening comment on how he thought the forces were dumb until he realized it was kendrick speaks to the faith you can inspire in people by being a concise, consistent and uncompromising artist, but also how we can sometimes allow our faith to turn into unconscious bias.
Kendrick Lamar and Vince Staples are kinda the same artist when you peel back the layers back
Cut from the same cloth. Ken, Vince, Tyler, Cole, JID, Denzel. They really the only ones creating sh*t in the mainstream rn fr
I'd say Vince is more of a Staple than Kendrick though for sure.
@@xbabu142x I think Vince is much more relatable than Kendrick
We need to stand in solidarity with him
Im starting to think that the people who think this is a drake diss don't know Kendricks discography.
Kendrick is at his best when he’s insulting Drake! That’s why he should keep doing it💪
This brother woke up today and said “I’m bout to cook on this reaction “ 😂💯🔥
“A revolving door of pathetic tendencies” is such a bar
Love how you peeped the message of the track. Real ish. This a cultural reset fr. I can’t believe 2020 actually happen and folks still comfortable being a sheep. 🤦🏾♂️🤦🏾♂️🤦🏾♂️

Such a smart, sharp, and concise analysis of the track and the wider issues at hand. 🎉
sick glasses homie
It’s bigger than Drake. The people who can’t see beyond dancing and smoking, drinking, guns and money, they’re gonna stay in that place. Kendrick is only talking to the people who want to do better, to be better. To move the culture forward beyond superficial silly stuff.
Oh shit you was quick with it! RESPECT!
Just so appreciate your content so much. Thank you for being so consistently level, and dare I say equitable. Keep pushing!
Well said a call to action!
In the portion that Kendrick censored himself I think he said..."I want to be empathetic My heart by D1
But I might fuck around and kill a man, I'll park ya son"
I genuinely think this might have been one of 5+5's. Might have been a call back to Euphoria. My theory is that he censored himself because he wants to move on past drake...on to bigger systems.
I feel like I’ll park ya son doesn’t fit at all.
it’s definitely some variation on ‘but I will kill a man in front of his son’. you’re right about the rhyme being ‘son’ but I’m sure it was something too out there to say uncensored, not a callback
edit: he kinda did kill a man in front of his son if you think about it lmao
he came for Ak. rightly so.
"It's about who is ready to leave the nonsense in the past?"
And Akademiks took that personally
Shawn is the first dude who didn’t go “HOLY FUCK ROUND TWO ANOTHER DRAKE DISS.” That’s clearly not the purpose of this track and it’s cool to see someone else actually get it
Was waiting on this video 🔥
Yall got so caught up in Kenny's Drake disses that yall forgot what Kendrick raps sound like 😂😂😂😂
Kendrick always knows how to make you think, right? It's like every bar is a mirror reflecting reality. Love how he challenges us. 💭
I don’t know if some people are going to be listening to what Kendrick Lamar said because some people didn’t listen to Jay-Z. Jay-Z had a song called The Story of OJ. And he was saying some real stuff in that song. But some people didn’t care about what he was saying
Was patiently waiting for this, thank you.
I liked that dot released this track explaining the bigger picture of media and the “culture” him and Cole have been the only spoken ppl to really say shit like this. Gravitating to what jay z used to do back then

Thank you for saying that
Kendrick Lamar is a hip hop genius that has range with his music. All the man is doing is sounding the alarm for what’s going on. Kendrick is very visually aware; and is speaking on subjects many aren’t ready to touch. Kendrick Lamar is brilliant! Just listen to the words and not the beat or sound of music. Listen to what Kendrick is saying. Overall I love this song; it’s not difficult to comprehend why Kendrick Lamar is a Pulitzer Prize winner.

Seeing Lecrae and Dee-1 responding and building on top of this, in a way this turned into an anti-diss and anti-battle. It shouted people and their message out, and they came out to respond, and all of it is about the message. It's community, and it is soul.
"this feels like a funeral" on a song which uses death as a metaphor. great observation shawn
