Yeah, you can make whatever justifications you want about Negan punishing the group, but he taunted and tortured Glenn in his last moments. To get this much acceptance from his wife (who saw all that happen) is miraculous enough.

He severed that with Maggie the moment he used that bat on Glen. But she’s trying for her son, and that was all the hope he could put into it. Her son is the last remaining part of Glen. With the understanding the The Walking Dead is a TV show, and these are not actual people, I was surprised how much I missed Scott Wilson's Herschel and was surprisingly moved by his appearance in another character's dream. I kept waiting for Maggie to invoke him here"(I know what my daddy would want me to do, and I've never missed him more than in his moment. I can't forgive you...yet.") Negan's articulation of what he's done to her and her child was well done. More of these character moments, which well written dialogue and completely relatable motives, would have done the last five years of this series a world of good. Kudos to JD Morgan and Lauren Cohan.

Killing in the show usually revolved around exactly what you said but "Sadistic" killing was something that was never touched on and Negan stepped over that line quite a few times, his iron grip on people was stepping over the line but it kept people in check. So honestly just shooting Glen for what they did, fine but being sadistic and mocking during it violated the moral compass on the show IMO. I don't know if anyone else felt and this scene is just a small arc in him realizing he violated that morality again only IMO. However I do agree with you on the idea of balancing the table by killing 2 of Ricks group.

Glenn was one of the kindest most humane people in that world and for him to die the way he did was unbelievably cruel and Negan made a joke. When she mentions how negan mocked him as he died really hit me. Glenns death scene is the single most brutal hearbreaking scene in this whole series for me. I completely agree with this. That had to have been absolutely haunting for her to endure, especially with Negan cracking jokes. No doubt she's struggling with PTSD from it so the pain never ends. I still cant get over Glenn's death it was unreaaonably brutal.. like, its just a show but stung. A lot. I would've def had to end Negan just to balance my world if I were Maggie. There's just no coming back from that. Period.

    • @LightningSnow_
      @LightningSnow_ Год назад +23

@@ChaotikBabe you’re right, but then you’d be feeding into that hatred. Killing in revenge and calling it balance. At the end of the day it’s just creating a cycle that doesn’t end. And I think Maggie realized that and knew that wasn’t the world she wanted her son to grow up in. Plus I believe she’s also seeing the good that can come from giving people second chances. Case in point: Negan saving her son. There’s a very good chance he would’ve died had it not been for Negan, which at that point I wouldn’t have been surprised if Maggie contemplated suicide. Long story short; Maggie knows hate is destructive and knows Negan is not the same person so she’s telling it to him true that she can’t forgive him and there may not be a time she’s able to.. but that she’ll continue to try.

I think he can have his reasons and justifications on the outside, but looking at Maggie’s eyes everyday and meeting her son and watching that kid point a gun at him…there’s no justifying it for him anymore. He knows deep in his heart that what he did was wrong and he’s finally fully accepted it.
He can see the immense pain and suffering he’s caused her and I think he’s genuinely grown fond of her and admires her strength, which only makes him hate himself for what he did even more. You are so right that its so much different than "I perceive you as a threat; bang, dead" which is how things usually go down in this show. Theyve established the ground rules over and over in this show about kill-or-be-killed and act first to defend yourself which is why I find it so hard to believe Negan was left alive. In that world he would be killed at the first chance they got. Its part of the reason I stopped watching.

I know people try to justify Negan's actions and say that Rick's group killed his people and started it, but they seem to forget that their first interaction with the Saviors was them holding Daryl, Sasha, and Abraham at gunpoint and trying to rob them, and that they attacked the outpost because the Saviors were threatening and killing Hilltop members. Yes, they escalated things, but it certainly wasn't "oh everything would have been fine if they didn't attack Negan's men."
Second, it wasn't just the killing that was so horrifying. It was the cruelty of not just the method of death by beating Glenn's head into a pulp but also the way he taunted his friends and family while making them watch. You see it here that Maggie seems to be the most emotional when she talks about Negan mocking Glenn as he died. And then he made them sit by Glenn and Abraham's mangled corpses for the whole night. Negan does everything in his power in the episode to be as cruel and inflict as much pain and torment as possible and visible revels in it. So yeah, even if Rick and Maggie have killed people and have been cruel, Negan definitely owes Maggie and apology and Maggie is definitely in her right not to forgive him.

Eh, you make Rick's side sound so much more moral than it actually was, they agreed to fight Negan in exchange for half of Hilltop's supplies. It wasn't a moral response to what they saw at Hilltop, Rick wanted their stuff and agreed to go kill people to get it, he even said to his people to justify it "This is how we eat". So, you're not wrong when you say what happened with Sasha, but it's misrepresentative of what happened and makes Rick's group sound like good-hearted defenders of the weak when it was clearly a they were going to kill these people for food situation.

@@Jack29245 True. I didn't mean to portray Rick's group as some morally upright set of people. Killing the Saviors in their sleep was terrible. But I was more addressing the argument I've seen from some that Negan did not do anything wrong in killing Glenn, that Rick's group completely started the conflict, or that his and Rick's actions at that point are complete moral equivalents. Essentially, I've seen people criticize Rick's group or Maggie as being complete hypocrites, and I was more addressing those claims.

-They tried to kill Daryl, Sasha, and Abraham
-They wanted Daryl, Sasha, and Abraham to take them back to Alexandria where they could possibly kill more.
      - The biker gang saviors said they're stuff belong to Negan now, presuming that they were ready to forcibly take all of their resources.
-They had subjugated Hilltop and killed a 16 year old to make instill fear
-Hilltop MUST consistently provide resources for them, otherwise someone would die, stated by Jesus himself.

We see Maggie and Negan here coming to somewhat of a understanding. they never will be friends but at the same time she' came to realize he is truly trying to change and redeem himself for his past actions, he earned his place as one of them after helping them through the battles with the Whispers and the Commonwealth , there will be days when she will be fine with negan and able to look him in the eye and there will be days when she obviously wont which he 100% understands and then we go to the Spin off, Dead City and shes suddenly gone back to hating him again.

She does feel guilt. Ok you can’t forgive him. But you rage and hate 16 years since your husband has died. You have to find a way to heal. Or you will have no son and no family. She still remembers, and can’t forget, but accepts that they’re both trying regardless and that’s some of the best writing of the show. But seeing Negan seeing Maggie in so much pain over her husband like that, I think it also gave him a chance to reflect on how he felt when Lucille was taken from him. Not in the same fashion, of course, but she died. And it could be said, it was because of the people who held Negan as long as they did when he was trying to get her Chemo. He could possibly see a reflection of his own pain for Lucille reflected back at him from Maggie's pain. Knowing that he has caused upon someone the same suffering he carries with him on a day to day basis. This of course is just a thought that popped into my head from the look on his face at the end. It felt like it was the type of face that said "oh my God, I have caused the same kind of pain I have carried and put another person through it who just like I, didn't deserve it". That yeah she isn't gonna kick him out or try to kill him anymore, but there will always be a part of her that will never forgive the malicious horrible way he killed Glenn. She right you could never truly forgive what he done, it was simply unforgivable, however she knows negan understands what he done n that he is genuinely sorry, the scene was done so well n both of them perfectly portrayed the hurt they both felt

I always thought, Rick getting his colt back and reuniting with Daryl was the most powerful scene…but this is amazing. It’s so good written and the acting is incredible.

This scene was so empowering. She recognized that he was trying to be better. But I felt it when she said that she couldn’t forgive him. I have tried so hard to forgive the person that hurt me really bad. The person that took my worth from me. But if I could talk to him again, I would tell him that I will never forgive him. But I have let go of the hate. That’s the important part. Yes it’s not the same as what happened to her but I connected so much to this scene.
