    This was SOOOooo interesting when it aired, I remember my older brother, he was 11 at the time, pausing from rubbing my face into the carpet to watch it, good memories.

    I was 13 years old and my mom was taking care of me when I stayed home from school and the Banana Splits was cool and my 20" bicycle ... that's what that intro reminds me of.

      I was born in 60s and believe TV was better when we had 3 perhaps 4 channels. Now we have 100s of channels and crap. 😂

    I started giggling when I saw this as it brought a huge smile to my face. I remember this PSA vividly from a very happy period of my childhood.

    1972’s “Catch 5” for WEWS was Frank Gari’s first promotional campaign for a TV station. Mr. Gari is the vocalist in this video.

    John Hambrick passed from this life today, may he rest in peace. He and his brother Judd had a big and positive impact on Cleveland television news.

      To the best of my knowledge, Dave Patterson is the only member of WEWS appearing in this promo still with us, as Don Webster passed away last month.

    This was actually from 1972 and the personalities who were at WEWS that year were John Hambrick (brother of Judd and Mike Hambrick) (later anchored in San Francisco, Los Angeles, New York, and Miami), Dave Patterson (later with WKYC and anchored in Phoenix, Arizona), the late Dorothy Fuldheim, Don Webster, and the late Gib Shanley (later with WUAB). But who were the staff announcers at WEWS at the time?

  • @tyrese3745
    @tyrese3745 9 лет назад +4

    John also had a younger brother, Mike Hambrick. Mike did stints at KTAR-TV (now KPNX) in Phoenix, WBAL Channel 11's Action News, and WPXI-TV in Pittsburgh, to name a few.

    @MsTexas73 Correct, he anchored at WJW (WJKW) before going to WKYC.

    So relaxin' and fancy-free...and meaningless! I love the lyrics; they're so empty...what does any of that mean? Doesn't matter...just sets a mood. :) I couldn't get this out of my head back when this was on (1975 or so is when I heard it).

    Back in the day before all the news stations looked alike. Each had their own personality. And how many Hambrick's were there, or was the same one just recirculated throuh out the country?

    • @stevieboy247
      @stevieboy247  3 года назад +4

      There were 3 Hambrick brothers that were in the news business, John, Judd, and Mike. They mostly worked for major market TV stations throughout their careers.

      Ted came aboard channel 5 as a staff reporter around 1968. He also was a weekend anchor man, and then he replaced John Hambrick in 1975.
