I’m 63 and grew up watching these shows. I moved away from Cleveland well over half a century, but I could sing the Mr. Jingeling song... except we always sang “Mr. Jingeling, he’s a dingaling”. Thanks so much for the journey through yesteryear.
I'm 63, so you also probably grew up on Hoolihan, Big Chuck & Lil John, and the Ghoul. Even though I was a little older I would watch Superhost because of the monster movies. I also watched Barnaby and Woodrow.
I LOVED Captain Penny and Jungle Larry. It was exciting to meet Captain Penny. Romoer Room was also a special place. We loved to hear our names on our birthdays! What a treat!
I saw "Jungle Larry" and "Captain Penny" at Cedar Point Amusement Park in Sandusky, Ohio. I was thrilled to see them in person, after watching them on T.V. Miss Barbara, hostess of "Romper Room", Earle Keyes, aka "Mr. Jingleling" a jolly elf, Woodrow the Woodsman, Franz the Toymaker, and all the Cleveland children shows were well written, well presented, and very entertaining and fun. Thanks to all involved in any way with these wonderful shows. They don't make them like that anymore!
you forgot barnaby- cleveland's lynn sheldon. he deserves some credit, too. mr jingleling was not part of anyone's show- he was an ad figure for halle bros. usually showing up around thanksgiving.....
I remember as a young child Miss Barbara saying my name in the magic mirror and I froze solid in front of the TV my older brothers were in school but I was still at home I'm telling you I froze absolutely solid
I remember this with the fondest of memories. I song that song for my daughter. During the winter around Christmas and snow on the ground and a wam pot of Chili cooking.
My Mom taught school with Nadine Keys, Earl's wife. They were good friends, and were guests at our home, I was learning to do auto body and paint, and did some rust repair on Earl's Chevy station wagon, (his sleigh) They were very nice people.
OH MY GOD!!!!!!!!!!! IM FROM CLEVELAND AND THIS BROUGHT BACK SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO MANY MEMORIES!!!!!!!! I EVEN GOT A HINT OF A SMELL OF MALTO MEAL WHEN I STARTED WATCHING THIS!!! THANK YOU!!! HAVE TEARS IN MY EYES NOW....
OMG I remember these shows as a kid growing up in Cleveland, the fun times we all had growing up here. It's a shame that times are changing and kids can't appreciate the fun times we had growing up!!! Thanks for posting
I was a big fan of Cap'n Penny. Wouldnt miss his show if i could help it. Jungle Larry and his crew came to my school (Pleasant Grove in Louisville OH.) probably in 1964. They put on a show for us that was probably an hour long. Very cool! Great time to be a kid!
When I was little we went to meet Captain Penny at Kenny King's! I also remember Barnaby (and Long John the Invisible Parrot) and Ghoulardi! Captain Penny used to tell us not to imitate the Three Stooges, and always said "You can fool some of the people all of the time and all of the people some of the time, but you can't fool Mom." Jungle Larry was like an early Steve Irwin :D. And I worked with Earl Keyes (Mr Jingling) circa 1979 at CWRU!
@@TheCrittercam001 Do you remember when Barnaby had the live on-air crack up and said something like “YOU know there”s no parrot there do t you little neighbor?” PS in my 30s I was an extra in a Big Chuck/Little John skit!
Ron Penfound aka "Captain Penny" taught me how to whistle! He said to ask mom to to make Lemon Jello without sugar added. It would make your mouth pucker in the right shape to whistle. I did it. --- It WORKED! Thanks, Captain Penny!
I've only lived in N.E. Ohio for about twelve Years but after learning about Mr. Jingaling, Ghoulardi, Big Chuck and Lil' John, I feel as though I was born and raised here.
It was a really big deal if I was still awake & allowed to watch hoolihan & big chuck back in the late 60's & early 70's. I had a great childhood. Things were so much fun & magical back then.
I used to watch this all the time! Jungle Larry tore a piece of a tree off at his Disney World jungle and gave it to me. He said "Here, now you have a piece of the jungle." I went to Halle's and saw Mr. Jingeling too! Barnaby was also a great show back then. It was a great time to be a kid. Simple but fun.
this does bring back memories but unfortunately all the clips shown here come from after I started grade school. Oh, how I'd absolutely love seeing anything from anywhere up until 1967.
When the show was being formed, they weren't sure of a name for a railroad man so they came up with "Captain" at the last minute. By the time they figured out maybe "Engineer" or "Conductor" might have worked it was too late to change it so "Captain" stuck.
I recently left a comment on some other channel references of Mr Penny show..where he always ended his show saying "You can fool some of the people some of the time...some of the people's all of the time..but you can't fool all of the people all of the time ..especially mom..she's pretty smart."

Jungle Larry had a display of animals at Chippewa Lake Park during the summer, and a friend of mine found someones trained march hawk in a tree, I took it home and made a large wire mesh cage for it, and eventually gave it to Jungle Larry for his display, I would take live sparrows for the hawk to eat, which freaked out the kids at the park as they watched the hawk rip apart the sparrows. I got a free pass to the park form Larry!

When I was very small my dad told me that Larry Tetzlaff was one of many Tarzans in the movies. I was told he was a silent movie Tarzan a while before Johnny Weismueller made Tarzans famous jungle yell...
wow, I never thought to look for these old childhood clips until today and here they are, Ghoulardi sci-fi show, Capt Penny, etc. wow, so much has changed since then, life is almost unrecognizable. If Capt Penny was going for a train conductor, the engineer outfit is kind of a mixed message... But you can't fool Mom!!🤗
