When I was homeless I used a one person tent big enough for me to sit up in without my head touching the roof and put a comforter (thick blanket) over top of it then hung up a tarp to repel rain. That one comforter over top made it so I could sit up in my tent just in a hoody in 34F weather and be perfectly warm. Pre bought Insulated tents are very expensive. I tried putting more blankets over top of it but it made the tent pole start to bend over so if you want to use even more blankets for better insulation I recommend using string to lift the other blankets off the tent slightly to hold some of the weight. Also I used four layers of cardboard on the inside floor of the tent for bottom insulation because the cold will eat right through your sleeping bag if you don’t have bottom insulation. Having my own tiny tiny home in the winter where I could be very warm with just my body heat was such a luxury for me.

I was homeless and did somwthing similar but i didnt use any blankets. I wish i thought of that rather than putting em on the floor of the tent. I did use a tarp on the top to repel the rain cuz tents arent waterproof lol juat resistant

@@N3MES1SX12 even if you can’t cover the tent with a tarp I used to slide my sleeping bag into one of those big black trash bags before getting into it. Helps hold some heat in and keeps the water off of you. A few layers of cardboard under you with a bag around them to keep them dry helps keep things a little more comfortable too
All I could think of during the set up was, “He made a turducken tent!” 😂 This looks so cozy

The 4 poster bed was designed to do the same job, they would have thick heavy curtains that when you closed would trap the heat in around the bed.

I'm currently planning on Insulting my bed in my 5th wheel this way....
In past centuries they used to put beds inside closets, and sleep inside them.

I'm filipino and a camper from the PNW. You made pancit (no bell peppers next time though), had an ube snack and said grace before dinner. You just may be part filipino.... or at least in your past lifetime. Love your vid!
Nah, toss in there whatever you like. If you cook only for yourself nothing has to be authentic if you don't want to. Having fun while cooking and eating is the most important.

Does pancit not have any seasoning at all? Sure the chicken stock and the savoury sauces add some but it didn't look nearly well-seasoned enough. Granted I am Indian and I love my spices, and we have a version of this (sevai) so I may be biased.
I like my pancit with bellpepper and i also add some celery in it... it's so good 😊

Sometimes I wanna set up my little backpacking tent inside my room because we have no heating, and just camp in my tent in my room 😂 but my family would probably notice and think I'm weird. Sometimes it's just fun, it's like when you're a kid making club houses and blanket forts.

Indeed. I've heard of folks keeping an emergency tent or two to set up indoors if the power goes out. Especially kiddos can get really unhappy in the cold. Let 'em play in it and sleep warm too
I think there ARE bed cover tents? But if not? Throw fairy lights over it. Legit throw some fairy lights over/in in. So fluffy pillows. Call it a reading or study area, what have you. If not? Terracotta lamps(?) work great for heating. Is what I did. Go for it. If it sparks joy? F normal, be weird and happy. You'll be warmer.

I don't know that I could handle the smaller insulated tent like that. Have claustrophobic issues Brother. That location was so so pretty. Daddy's little girl Lil, is growing into being like her Mommy, making sure you remember to take care of yourself. I love it. How sweet. It would be fun to see how you prepare for a trip sometime. From start to finish. I think it would be an eye opener for us to see all the behind the scenes prep you do to make the amazing content you put out for us. The choosing and packing of the gear you need, shopping for the meals you make, how you fit it all in Bruce and what you have to do when you make it back home. I don't see any other youtuber doing that for their subscribers. Even your process of editing, that takes like forever for you. I think it would be fascinating. Yes lived in a tee pee when I was a kid..it uses the same principles.. dobble layer with flaps on the outside that are weighed down with snow.. and in thr inner layer which was frost free but perhaps like 5 or 10 degrees we had the food and extra things we did not need very warm.. never froze once.. even in minus 40.. only in the morning when you had to pee.

Makes sense to me, the more layers the better the insulation as more heat is trapped. Kind of like the difference between single, double and triple paned glass.

My wife is a Filapina and she cooked this a couple of days ago. It's pronounced "pan sit" as in sit down and enjoy. She adds green beans to hers.

What fun!! Super hyper hot tenting! Pancit. (Pun-sit) I hope that helps with the pronunciation! The version you made is called Pancit Bihon (Be-hoon). Made with thin rice noodles. Mom and dad usually made another style. Pancit with the flour/egg noodles. Thinly sliced cabbage, carrots and celery. All stir fried in soy sauce/water mixture. Pork was the meat they used. I enjoy them all! We could almost smell and taste how delicious yours was! Thank you for sharing God's beautiful creation with us!!

Dude this is so rad. Been a while but last time I went snow camping me and some friends got a huge 8 person tent with 2 tarps on the bottom. My buddy brought his space heater and then we each had two sleeping bags. Good times

Basically what i did in the van but with blankets. Lol. Hang blankets around my bed like the wall. Kept me warm enough even when it gets 0 degrees outside during nights. Once I open the blanket to get out. Whooo! COLD punches in your face.

The outer tent, by itself keeping things 30° warmer than the outside was impressive.
If I were inclined to camp in the winter and wanted to go "extreme," I would probably stop at the Crua. No overgrown sleeping bag/coffin tent for me.

I just made pancit last night. I boil the chicken in water, soy sauce, and black pepper. I sauté the onions, garlic, and add shredded chicken in peanut oil. Then add lemon juice, carrots, and cabbage. After the cabbage and carrots are softened, I add the noodles that was soaked in the same chicken broth that I used to boil the chicken. I add soy sauce to taste. If I have water chestnuts, I’d add that too. It’s delicious with crunchy garlic chili sauce. It’s funny that you like Filipino food 😂

What an awesome tent!! Love it. I love the shape - it is open and roomy. I am with you - I like to be able to stand up in a tent as it is more comfortable. The insulated smaller tent looks so cozy. The small cocoon tent looks so warm and sleepy. The dinner looked delish. I know you love the winters up in Gods country of the Great Northwest! This brought back a memory of my family camping in Idaho when my kids were little. We put up a tent, covered it with a comforter and then staked down a tarp over that because we were to cheap to get a hotel room. My wife and daughter wussed out and got a room but my son who was only about 4 and I stayed. We were the only two in the campground! We roasted hot dogs and made smores, built a snow man and had a blast until night time. By 11 pm, we said screw this and joined the girls. It was so cold, when we went back in the morning to make breakfast, the eggs were frozen! Good times!!

I cannot lie, I was all the way claustrophobic watching the inside of the smallest insulated tent, Kenny. I wouldn't have been able to breathe hot air all night, jeez. But the idea of tent inside a tent has been recommended for use at home during winter power outages in cold climates for survival.
As for the Pancit, it sure made me hungry. 😊 Thank you for bringing us along for this fun tent adventure.
It was a bit stuffy in that tent! I assure you I had good ventilation and was able to breath well with all the vents open. Otherwise I wouldn’t have been able to do it either haha thank you for always being here for me and the family. You are a major blessing 😊😊

I'm not a fan of camping in the cold any more, however I enjoy watching camping videos this one made me hungry while he was prepping his breakfast so I took white cooked rich out and put roasted chicken in it the microwave made a broth of the chilled chicken juices and it was a awesome meal to go along with this show in the middle of the night in California.
The doubled-shelter idea is a very old one that works in both very cold and very hot places, although the application is a bit different. In a hot climate the outer tent keeps the rays of the Sun off the inner tent and is set up in such a way as to allow air movement between the layers. This has even been applied to building construction in deserts. Many years ago in Tucson I had to visit a dental office in the hottest time of the year. The location fascinated me as there were single story buildings under an elevated free-standing (tent-like in appearance, but solid in material) roof. I'd estimate there was ten feet of air space between the flat-roof buildings and the roof above. Stepping into the shade of that roof the air temperature dropped ten degrees, a very meaningful number in Tucson in August! Sadly, this structure was torn down years ago to build a more profitable and typical multi-story office building.
In cold weather in the New England states I recall as a Boy Scout (many decades back now) learning to first dig a pit in the snow, then build a snow wall around the tent site. Over that we would erect a tarp on poles driven into the snow. This created dead air around the uninsulated tent beneath the tarp and protected by the snow walls. Worked quite well even when a blizzard would blow in, as there would be no wind bashing the tent sub-zero effects.
There are many ways to apply these ideas, but at the heart of it all is insulating the living space from the outside conditions. Only without also completely eliminating all air movement from the outside.
I mean, you need fresh air to breathe or you stop breathing. So don't over do it :)
