Dorthy lived about 6 houses away from me in Cleveland Hts, and she always said hello to me while I was on my way to high school in the morning, and invited me onto her front porch to chat in the afternoon, when she was home. Those mornings when she said hello to me, her flaming hair was like a sunrise to me. She was a wonderful, intelligent, and fascinating person, and taught me a great deal about history and life in general. Thank you for your friendship, and for being one of my mentors in life.....RIP Dorthy Fuldheim...❤️❤️
Thank you for your tribute. You are a man of great character. I, too found her mezmerizing as a young boy and couldnt imagine being in her presence. thank you sir. much love
Very very moving commentary. I actually teared up while listening to. I've always respected Dorothy Fuldheim. She was one of the most fearless ladies who ever lived, and she opened the doors for women in the field of journalism and broadcasting.
Gib Shanley aint far behind. Remember the Iranian Flag thing. Ghoulardi (ernie anderson) used to blow her up ! Cool it with the Boom Booms ! turn blue purple knif ! u no wat a knif is rite? A fink spelled backwards. Barnaby and woodrow the woodsman were cleveland too rite?
I just was in Cleveland today . We took a walking tour with our mom. She is 83 and boy did she do well. Up in the skies flying back to Wilmington, I thought of Dorothy Fuldheim. I just hope we are all as stong as our parents / Dorothy will be in the next 40 years.
April 2020 - I have not been to the Cleveland area in many years but, growing up there was frigid Winters and frequent trips to grandparents and aunts/uncles homes was a true delight! We often started visits in the early afternoon (1 or 2 maybe) and stayed until the late, late evening (10 or 11 p.m.). One grandparent's house was Better Homes neat and organized, while the other was packed with the books, trinkets and baubles of a lifetime! In both homes we dined with relatives and listened to lengthy discussions on life, work, love and neighbors, or projects to renovate this room or repair that car; it was THE social time BEFORE Social Media! So great! Both sets of grandparents are gone now, yet their homes still stand with a few changes noticed on Google Street-level views; the 3 double-door barn where my mother's parents celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary was struck by lightning and then was torn down, and the line of pine trees my father's father planted as a wind-break on the north side of their backyard have been replaced by a white picket fence! These locations were all in the suburbs of Cleveland, a half-hour or more away from downtown but, where Dorothy Fuldheim's commentary reached out to a young boy and told him about the world and it's happenings! I am 53 years old this year and don't really know HOW she influenced my "views" of our world but, I remember enough to remember her and that very strong voice! The memory of it brought me here on RUclips yesterday and what a joy it is to see her again! Thank you for uploading this video!
When I worked there and her secretary was off she would send for the little ethnic girl to type her commentary scripts for air. I always got chocolates because her office was packed. She is a legend and was a trip!
I I grew up with this lady on Cleveland's w e w s Channel 5 and she is definitely the first lady of Cleveland news on television rest in peace Dorothy fuldheim
Dorothy was AMAZING! Even more relevant today. She was a powerful force on the airwaves, and quite a role model. It was forward-thinking of ABC Cleveland 5 to have a mature woman predominantly featured regularly in prime time. It's no wonder so many ladies from the area became successful!
I really can't add beyond what has been said about this woman who chose to spend her life here enriching us with her knowledge, experience and life itself; I only met her one time in 1957 at the one o'clock club when I was five--Ron Penfound interviewed me at the table at which I sat with my mom; so, thank you Dororthy--you enriched us all and stayed here and spread your eloquence and the knowledge you gained from so many interactions with the good, bad and ugly. Most sincere appreciation, Dave Davis
I still remember when she tossed Jerry Rubin off the Channel 5 set. Classic! I still miss her. She was and remains the grande dame of the golden age of TV.
That could have been a great interview but she blew it by letting him get to her.......not to mention he was pretty much right. She embarrassed herself and looked foolish ...
We used to call her Dorothy Halftime, had no clue as kids she was more than a character with bright red hair. A great lady and a groundbreaking journalist. I'm 66, I hope in 20 years I'm as sharp and wise as she was!
The book Crooked river burning by Mark Winegardner, 2001, Harcourt, brought me here, chapter titled; Local Heros, Anchorwoman's Tale. What a charactor, a treasure of Cleveland! Good book too,
Was young when I watched her, didn't realize how intelligent she was till I watch these videos. She was indeed a treasure of northeast Ohio and why she never went national or pps news hour or did she?
she interviewed hitler (the only lady to do so ). Ime from cleveland and I was taken by this lady form day one as a youngin. She was brilliant beyond brilliant. She started many of her interviews with " I read your book last night " She was born many years too early and would be an absolute world leader as a woman. It coulda happened.
Just because someone is opinionated it doesn't make them mean or rotten. Men who are journalists could be a straight-shooting and honest as she was, but they're not criticized for it. Why?
@@thegrandmasabrinaSabrina, that thinking is a relic. People generally hate ALL journalists these days. There's a reason people are watching this video and for most it's their fondness for a female journalist.
Yes, but then she said flippantly,"Let's Bomb Russia." She will be forever a rep of the McCarthyisitic 50's!" She'd fit in well with the current PC McCarthyism.
Even this one video can teach 2020's young people the wisdom of understanding their experiences and how those "build" the person over a lifetime! I loved it when Dorothy mentioned shaking the hand of Mr. Albert Einstein! Oh my goodness, to experience that moment of "special relativity" with one of today's great minds! Dare I even imagine how many of the current young journalists are ready to recant the time they met a groundbreaking geneticist or maybe Jeff Bezos, Elon Musk, or Mark Zuckerberg before any of these men made their first marks upon our society? "Let's bomb Russia" was less meaningful than today's "Let's bomb Iraq" because the latter one we actually went forth and DID! Wholly cow but, hey, that is a nice reference to how a television personality pundicated something that didn't happen versus the reality of something that DID happen! In April of 2020 the world hardly knows a voice as strong as Dorothy Fuldheim or Walter Cronkite but, from the depths of the COVID-19 pandemic, we have each other to depend on for "real" news and the means to broadcast each of our voices out to the world, if we wish! Take care! Thanks Channel 5! (signed, an alumni of Ellenwood Elementary school formerly in Bedford, Ohio.)
@@DennisCosteaJr She was a right-wing reactionary who later on wanted to stop the free speech movement of the 60's. She was a fucking cunt pro-war and anti-peace!

Absolutely Eloquent. A time past, sadly missed and fondly remembered 🙏🏽❤️
My mother loved her And as Child in 1965 Would sit with her and listen to Dorothy; She was intelligent talented and a great Cleveland figure and icon.
Holy shit. I wish people still talked like this. What a poetic woman.
Dorothy Fuldheim and Ghoulardi were always my favorite two Cleveland stars!

I'm not going to lie, me too. I wanted to hear her voice 😂
Same. I honestly wish the show was taught all around the us rather than what is not needed in text books.

Listening to Dorothy's commentaries were the highlight of my day growing up in C-Town. Rest In Peace, Dorothy, you're sorely missed down here.

This was probably around the time when Dave Patterson went to WKYC, Jeff Maynor's arrival from WJW (WJKW) and Ted Henry becoming lead anchor at WEWS.
Why is there no.mural or stature for her in Cleveland?
real nice to see her again
Wow, She had depth. I so much wish I would have met her. Gib Shanley I met and was so nice and a true gentleman.
