The gen 2 substitutes are for the most part perfectly functional. If you played the game a few times already a sub run can be a neat change of pace, but you still get your handful of holy weapon users to fall back on. At least sub runs have some unique events and such, so thats always cool to see!
Personally, this is the reason I don't really like to replay FE4. The game is set up in a way that a lot of playthroughs play out generally the same, especially with how centralized Part 2 is around holy weapons.
This being said I totally get why you prefer gimmicky pairings for exactly those reasons. At the very least you can have some unique fun before Celice and Co. kind of take over the endgame.

Oh, and another point in favor of sub runs or ironmans: There's a unique humor and maybe even roleplaying in having an absolutely trashy hand and kind of having to deal with that. It's certaintly an experience!

@@MS-lf3wu That's awesome! I appreciate the feedback. That's why I was careful to say I have never bothered with a sub run. I have beaten the game dozens of times. Even have a Sigurd/Seliph Solo recorded for upcoming content as is. Personally find FE4 very fun to replay, but I know it isn't for everyone.
I'll always stand behind Thracia being the all-around best game in the franchise. It meats all of my expectations and exceeds them and offers you the ability to tackle it however you please.

@@gamermanzeake If you can appreciate one thing about the Kaga era of Fire Emblem, it's all the unique flavors on offer. Thracia is in a really weird place, if you ask me. It's generally considered this super hard and obscure guide game, but I really learned to drop perfectionist habits with it. It's narrative and some mechanics are really centered around failures and making do and I think Fire Emblem is more engaging that way. On the other hand there's lots of hidden and weird stuff, so I get where completionists are coming from. There's a lot to love, for sure!
