I absolutely love the HP overlay on each of the major boss fights, by the way. Makes the footage actually very engaging to watch- I love thoroughly narrated challenge runs, a LOT, and that's partially for the fact that if you're familiar with the game you can kinda just listen to them and still get the full experience, but the footage being additionally fun to watch is a nice bonus!
I don't leave comments and likes too often (partially an unnecessary stigma and partially because mobile youtube breaks when doing so FOR SOME REASON), but it would be criminal to *not* do so here. The amount of work and required dedication for such is astonishing. Even the editing and scripting required for such a monster of a video is staggering.
When ever I leave a comment on RUclips using the phone app the keyboard gets stuck to my screen, or will even shift my entire screen above where the keyboard ends. Even if I switch apps. I have to restart my phone every time
I don't have as much experience with FF7 as I do 8, so I can't make a prediction for which limits would be useful this time as I did with the no junctioning challenge. That being said, this was still absolutely worth watching, it was a marathon of a challenge that involved a lot of inventive strategies and unconventional thinking. It's also amusing to see bosses that play roughly the same or almost easier with these restrictions than how they'd be encountered normally. The fight against Ruby Weapon at the end is the type of nonsense I love seeing in challenge runs.
Very impressed by the amount of effort that went into making this! Unrelated, but it is kind of funny that the entire part1 of FF7Remake ends at 31mins, puts it into perspective
Pure excellence as always, I liked this one especially because it felt a lot more like genuinely pure mastery of the game, rather than "we need to walk exactly between 3000 and 3082 steps, but only if the system clock indicates July, and it's a leap year", which admittedly is also funny but this genuinely felt like something theoretically a casual person could do, admittedly with a lot of patience. Great work!
I like how detailed this video is. Most of the FF7 challenge videos I've seen feel rushed by comparison. This one gets deep into the nuts and bolts. I feel like if I studied the video I could get through this challenge (with a little work and a lot of luck or vice versa).
Absolutely fantastic video I can't imagine how much time this took. It would have been an amazing anyway but you took the extra step and went for the super bosses anyway. The devotion to the challenge is beyond impressive.
Engrossing. Loved every second of it. Heck, I was on the edge of my seat during the Ruby fight. This might be my favorite of your videos. Congrats on this insanity.
I think this is one of the best long form videos I've watched on here in years, incredible work mate! The little additions like updating the boss HP with every hit must have taken ages and showcasing the glitch at the end, everything's so well considered and planned out. Liked and commenting to help the algorithm do it's thing as this deserves to blow up!
Another fantastic video mate, I really enjoyed NG Plus: The Movie! I'm not sure whether it counts or not considering you had to use items for the first battle, but even if it doesn't, it's really impressive. Kudos man
7:55 drops you to 3 HP from a max of 314, 8:02 you're back to 10 HP with a max of 318 Why did you need to reset that run? :( Or just including that battle almost killing you for the drama? :) Either way, well done. That's a lot of dedication to go through the intro so much to get a run going on this challenge!
Having been a long time fan of 4-8 Productions I had a feeling I knew most of your strategies going in, and I was correct. You still surprised me a couple of times but on the whole I predicted what you'd do. But that didn't make it any less fun or satisfying to see you succeed over and over and manage to do everything. Well done. Well done indeed. Also, Airlift was easily the funniest of the names, and had me cackling.
This is a mind boggling challenge with the WEAPONs included, and my respect and admiration are now yours. This was an amazing effort you made, and it's success made me feel so much excitement, as if i did it myself. Such a great job, my man.
FYI, Vincenzo has access to a 255% accuracy weapon called the Sniper CR that negates the accuracy loss from Fury (or anything, really), since it sets his accuracy higher than any evasion stat in the game.
I can already feel that this will be another epic show of tenacity and strategy. And 2h36m! That's awesome. Your videos inspire me to be tenacious in my own work as well. There is quite an overlap between what I do and these videos, in the sense that it requires a great deal of tenacity, persistency, development of strategies, optimizations and lots of trial and error. Thank you so much for your work!
I love watching challenge run videos for games, but for some reason I can't usually get into them for JRPGs. This video, however, was one of the best I've ever seen for any game! I loved the editing with the HP values and explanations of glitches like W-Item throughout the run, which kept things interesting and engaging. Maybe it helps that FF7 was my first and probably my favorite of the series. Great work overall.
Been seeing the stream notifications for so long, and every time I got excited for when iit''d be a video. Props to you, dude, this is genuinely amazing levels of dedication.
I thought I would just put this vid on the background while doing chores, but I ended up watching from beginning to end. Amazing achievement man, only made even better with your storytelling and video editing.
Fully expected this to be a "can only damage enemies using limits" run while allowing materia and items for all other purposes. The dedication to use next to nothing besides limits in combat is wild but made the challenge far more interesting. Impressively done
I actually learned a surprising amount of FF7 Trivia I was not expecting to learn from this video lol. AMAZING work! You havr some incredible willpower to pull runs like this!
Another fun thing to do against Ruby Weapon is the exact same strat, except in this one you manipulate Cloud's or Barret's HP so that they start the fight with 7777 HP exactly. Doing this puts a character in the "Lucky 7" mode, making each and every hit of theirs, including Limits, deal 7777 damage to the target, ignore defenses, buffs and accuracy drops. So every single hit from your Octa-Omnislash, or in Barret's case, Octa-AngerMax would deal 7777 damage per hit, every counter-mimic, which should be enough to 1-shot Ruby Weapon if its first attack is the MP Drain tentacle hit.
Thank you for showing a health tracker for each boss, that's really useful for judging how close to the wire each battle was. And, over 2 and a half hours - wow, this must've taken some dedication - and then there's editing everything down! Congrats 😁 Ok, and midway comments: Poison is actully your character damaging themselves. It's why one tactic for dealing with Materia Keeper is poisoning it then intentionally getting it to 7777 hp - the next poison tick will deal 7777 damage and instantly defeat it. According to Terence' guide on Party Mechanics on GameFAQs the moves are definitely physical/magical... Lost Number won't transform if Paralyzed, so your second guess sounds like the answer. From memory the MDef bug only meant the MDef from armour was ignored, Spirit still applied. I can't promise that though. Also - fun fact, the final boss that you get to Omnislash? It has *1* HP, and is programmed to die to *anything*, even Sense. And ah! I knew I wasn't going crazy that you could breed a Great and a Wonderful chocobo for blue/green chocobos, skipping the Good, but after 30+ soft resets I thought I must've been wrong... PS, that was a cheeky way to finish off the Weapons :P
Not sure Desperation Attacks can really be called limits, considering the way they work is fundamentally different. Definitely a nice touch regardless though.
They work very differently to FF7's, but rather similar to FF8's apart from the fact that you only get the limit confirmed after committing to an attack. So I do think they should count, albeit they are extremely rare to actually experience.
@GigaMettalix Agreed, they are not limit breaks and should not be referred to as such, or grouped with limit breaks. They are desperation attacks, like enemies have them. The precursors to limit breaks, sure, but not the same, so *technically* limits did NOT start in 6 like op says.
Oddly enough, non-elemental damage can be defended against with elemental materia (really helps with Ultimate Weapon, which is how I figured this out; that first encounter can be a bit brutal). You just need something like Bahamut to pair with it. I assume that it wasn't changed in later versions of the game so Ruby could have been trivialized by adding the ability to absorb both of its moves. Addendum: Tifa can actually kill Rapps before it even gets a turn if you've learned enough of her limits. Kind of a cool thing I found out back in my last playthrough of the unmodded game. Not sure if I had one of those OP accessories from the Battle Square at the time, but it's interesting how strong Tifa can get if you keep her in a strength-based build. The Mind Blow strat is probably more reliable, though, and I was going to try it out but Tifa just killed the thing in one limit so...yeah. Addendum: I'm not so sure about needing the Tiny Bronco to get the rings. I'm pretty sure I've gone back to get them immediately after getting the buggy before but I've been known for misremembering things. IGN agrees with me, at least. Addendum: Poison ticks actually deal Poison damage in this game. It's one of the reasons that you're given a Poison materia and Elemental materia in the Shinra HQ. The devs expect you to use it to halve the poison damage that the sample boss can do to whoever isn't wearing the Star Pendant. FF7 had the best element system...
SO glad you decided to take on another classic FF challenge =D Watching you do the Scorpion boss live was so much fun - and so exciting when you finally pulled it off! Thanks for the great entertainment =)
This was so interesting. I’ve never played the original ff7 and I’d certainly never play a game like this 😂 but you did a great job narrating it and it was super engaging to follow.
Ah yes, our main protagonist Clood from Birmingham, how can i forget.... Great videos, i like even tho the beginning is impossible, you still continue the challenge
Don't forget that Red's Lunatic High raises the party's evasion as well as casting haste. Sometimes you need those relentless attacks of bosses like Materia Keeper to miss just so you're not under so much pressure. (Edit a few days later: Actually I checked, only he gets the evasion boost and it's big enough that it could be detrimental so...) Also I'm gonna be that guy: Lapis Laser probably would've let Cloud spam Climhazzard.
Ff7 definitely had the most useful limit, but I love that you can use FF8 if you’re willing to be low on health. Somthing about that just its the mechanics and world building right for me. Plus I love having the spell to spam it at the end game 😂

It's also amusing to see bosses that play roughly the same or almost easier with these restrictions than how they'd be encountered normally. The fight against Ruby Weapon at the end is the type of nonsense I love seeing in challenge runs.
That ending was WILD! How does anyone ever find stuff like that out?
Isn't it marvellous? There's a really good video on it over at 4-8 productions.
This is the perfect way to refresh myself on the OG after finishing Rebirth. What a run!
Thanks, that's the goal, so feels good to know it worked
Absolutely fantastic video I can't imagine how much time this took. It would have been an amazing anyway but you took the extra step and went for the super bosses anyway. The devotion to the challenge is beyond impressive.
Engrossing. Loved every second of it. Heck, I was on the edge of my seat during the Ruby fight. This might be my favorite of your videos. Congrats on this insanity.
"I will never be a memory" nice touch 😉
Yessssss! I was looking for this challenge run to get finished. Best part of my week. Thank you NGplus+ !
Thank you, it really did take ages, and I had to triple check it was all correct too 😅
Long form? *Checks how long the video is* Damn, that felt so much quicker than it really was.
NG+ glitch is crazy to see lol, thank you for your work and sharing all of this
This is by far the best video on this channel. Keep up the good work !
Watching Red parachute into Midgar never stops being funny to me.
Another fantastic video mate, I really enjoyed NG Plus: The Movie! I'm not sure whether it counts or not considering you had to use items for the first battle, but even if it doesn't, it's really impressive. Kudos man
I had flashbacks seeing Carry Armor appear. Those streams were purgatory but so satisfyingwhen you eventually pulled through
7:55 drops you to 3 HP from a max of 314,
8:02 you're back to 10 HP with a max of 318
Why did you need to reset that run? :(
Or just including that battle almost killing you for the drama? :)
Either way, well done.
An epic video for an epic journey - was great to relive it so succinctly, and well worth it. Nicely done!
Thank you, well worth all the effort that went in to it!
FYI, Vincenzo has access to a 255% accuracy weapon called the Sniper CR that negates the accuracy loss from Fury (or anything, really), since it sets his accuracy higher than any evasion stat in the game.
I’ll be glued to the screen of the full 2 1/2 hours, love your content
I can already feel that this will be another epic show of tenacity and strategy. And 2h36m! That's awesome. Your videos inspire me to be tenacious in my own work as well. There is quite an overlap between what I do and these videos, in the sense that it requires a great deal of tenacity, persistency, development of strategies, optimizations and lots of trial and error. Thank you so much for your work!
'It's actually bad that we take no damage from this attack' is such a funny problem to have
I love watching challenge run videos for games, but for some reason I can't usually get into them for JRPGs. This video, however, was one of the best I've ever seen for any game! I loved the editing with the HP values and explanations of glitches like W-Item throughout the run, which kept things interesting and engaging. Maybe it helps that FF7 was my first and probably my favorite of the series. Great work overall.
for me this challenge would be actual hell genuine purgatory that i would never be able to escape
This is the best challenge run for any game I've ever seen, appreciate the huge effort you put into this.
"Airlift" makes me smile each time I think about it.
Tofu too lmao
God, this is so cool. Routing and learning about people routing challenges like this is so much fucking fun.
I fell in love with Ff7 Over this video, but you can bet he's Clood forever now
Fully expected this to be a "can only damage enemies using limits" run while allowing materia and items for all other purposes. The dedication to use next to nothing besides limits in combat is wild but made the challenge far more interesting. Impressively done
Ah. The lesser known protagonist of Foonal Foontasy VII - *_Clood Stroofe_*
I actually learned a surprising amount of FF7 Trivia I was not expecting to learn from this video lol. AMAZING work! You havr some incredible willpower to pull runs like this!
Thanks for this short version and the work you put to make it ❤ sadly didn't had the time for all live streams
The sheer amount of effort going into this video is amazing! Really enjoyed it!
''Clood hits harder''
Clood: 167 damage
Tofu: 100+112= 212 damage
Congrats 😁
Ok, and midway comments:
Poison is actully your character damaging themselves.
What a fun ride! Thank you so much for the video. I don't think I have draw into a video this hard for a very long time!
Fun fact: the limit system *technically* started in FF6, though it was never referred to as a limit break
Yeah, I saw it happen once and assumed I dreamed it until the Internet became a thing.
Can go am entire playthrough and never see one lol
Not sure Desperation Attacks can really be called limits, considering the way they work is fundamentally different. Definitely a nice touch regardless though.
They work very differently to FF7's, but rather similar to FF8's apart from the fact that you only get the limit confirmed after committing to an attack. So I do think they should count, albeit they are extremely rare to actually experience.
@GigaMettalix Agreed, they are not limit breaks and should not be referred to as such, or grouped with limit breaks. They are desperation attacks, like enemies have them. The precursors to limit breaks, sure, but not the same, so *technically* limits did NOT start in 6 like op says.
this was a lot more entertaining than I thought it'd be, the hp totals being shown is a nice touch, great video c:
'Bort' is such a silly name, I love it. One of my favorite names I've seen another player with in FF14.
The only FF with a better limit system than 7 is 10 - mostly because it’s basically the same system with some extra depth added.
Great vid! Always boggled but very impressed by all of the planning and crazy stuff you have to do to make these challenge runs work
yess another video to watch over and over ❤ i think i've watched your "ff8 no junction" video at least 10 times
This is by far my favorite challenge run I've seen of FF7. Both the video and the strategies were great to watch
Ah yes, our main protagonist Clood from Birmingham, how can i forget....
Great videos, i like even tho the beginning is impossible, you still continue the challenge
Loved this as a FF7 nerd who has broke the gil counter grinding materia - this is top work
That ruby weapon fight was absolute madness
Don't forget that Red's Lunatic High raises the party's evasion as well as casting haste. Sometimes you need those relentless attacks of bosses like Materia Keeper to miss just so you're not under so much pressure. (Edit a few days later: Actually I checked, only he gets the evasion boost and it's big enough that it could be detrimental so...)
Also I'm gonna be that guy: Lapis Laser probably would've let Cloud spam Climhazzard.
The mental fortitude required to complete this challenge is commendable, most would've given up by the time schizo rolled around
Ff7 definitely had the most useful limit, but I love that you can use FF8 if you’re willing to be low on health. Somthing about that just its the mechanics and world building right for me. Plus I love having the spell to spam it at the end game 😂
I am so ready for NGPlus the feature length film!
What a journey this video is. Great work as always and i assume the most time consuming. Watched a few streams while you preparing this but the final result? Brilliant! Keep going this great work.
My man, this might be the best FF7 video I've ever seen. The run itself was really cool, the editing is on point and your commentary was both informative and entertaining. Stellar work, subbed.
What an absolute triumph. You, sir, are a madman, but in the best possible way.
I was so sad I missed the later livestreams of this. Getting past Demon Wall was brutal.
the way i always did it as a kid was meteor rain, i would always farm for it before or in the temple so not far from what he did but with a lower level limit
@bigstopowens Yeah but on a Limit Only run, he would have had to farm hundreds of enemies to get it.
watching this just reminded me how good the item, equipment, limit breaks, leveling, materia, and battle systems are in this game. I should really do another playthrough. its been like 15 years
Why is there a Nail Bat in an ancient temple? Never mind just remembered it was in Remake in Midgar who cares I guess
Kinda irrelevant with the hyper accuracy debuff but i would have allowed Vincento's Limit.
It's not much different then allowing Sephiroth to fight for you in the flashback
I listened to this while I was at work and am thoroughly impressed that your videos (I've now listed to the FF8, FF9, Spyro and MGS challenges) and you have a way with making content that is easy to digest while not watching the screen and not be obnoxious with your script writing/editing. Listening to a couple other unrelated FF7 challenges after this one that made me cringe halfway through, and I appreciate your vids a lot. You earned a sub, cheers!
