I get what you’re saying. My problem is that with 1/24 you can build a more interesting course indoors. With the 1/18 to scale up the course it’s just going to be so much space consumed to keep it as interesting. Now if we’re going outside. I don’t know why you wouldn’t just wanna go 1/10.
My only rebuttal to what you said is with what you get with some other makes stock. Just because with this hobby. Who is leaving their rigs stock? No matter how good it is out of the box. We always want a little more. Now what you said about doing a full parts build. That’s kinda spot on.
Great vid, thanks for the content.

Great video Brent, everything you said was spot on! The only SCX24 I have that's still running the stock motor and servo is the Betty because I want to keep it OG. All the other SCX24's that I have had the servos and motors upgraded although they still run the stock ESC/Rec combo. The last mini crawler I got was the FCX24 Blazer from FMS and with a quick body change to a lighter Lexan it does just as well as my modded Axial while still running the stock equipment! Not sure if Axial can keep up with the competition without drastically raising the price.

The body will be sold separately. Over priced of course but it won't come with a bunch of garbage attached. Axial must be taken for a ride on their licenses fees to have this little quality at this price.

  • @BasBoyRC

I have just the Deadbolt, not a fan at all. For me the best value I have used is FMS and the TRX4m dearer but I like it. The upgrade cost a good 1/10th for the price. The assent 18 a real bargain, not in the UK but did not know what name they are under. FTX now does a Competition low profile brushless crawler for £169.

Also i wish the SCX24 was an SCX18 and all the aftermarket parts. Easier to work on. If you break a screw which easily happens with those M1,4s often you have to throw the part away, i bought 200 piece packs of screws because no matter how careful you are, using them more than once when doing mods easily ruins the hex. Also easier if you have to make or modify a part, sawing, filing, very often impossible or very hard on 24 size. All of that in 1/18 would be awesome.

I love the platform because of the many aftermarket parts available (most really affordable) but agree that the stock is useless other than a toy for a child and i think it is too fragile for that there would be better options. I wonder why Axial does not but out anything new but one ugly Hardbody version after the other, wonder who is going to buy those. I spent a few K on the platform but no Axial parts in them. I stayed away from Traxxas or Redcat (not available in Europe), bought one Hobby Plus T-Hunter but realized almost no aftermarket parts and even hard to get spare parts so i stay with the SCX24 platform.

I wanted to get a 1/10 but realized 1/10s at the levels of my SCX24 builds don't cost 500 but 3000, look at Exo and Dluxfab, the equivalent of a Hardpark or Mazz Chassis starts at 2 K. And you don't buy transmissions for 20 Bucks and a set of Axles for 100 or draw and print a custom chassis for almost nothing.

I prefer the 18th scale one over the 24t5h scale ones now. They are more capable outdoors and can run the areas I do with the 10th scale rigs. The 24th scales are fun for indoors mostly. The FMS 24th scale truck I have I do prefer a lot more than the SCX24. I just slapped brass wheels on it and it does great! I think the mini crawler fad is dying down, not dying out yet but it has certainly slowed down a lot. I think they can do little better to keep it alive but like you said, doing the traxxas body swap over and over is not going to keep it going.

I love the SCX24 for the reason it’s unchanged. Keeping parts compatibility across all models is smart. Look at the aftermarket, it’s just great. Look at the innovation the platform is driving in the micro world…(LGRP, HardPark, Mofo RC)
All RTRs have complaining points. SCX24 is no different.

I love the look and concept of the Atlas 6x6, but want to upgrade it. Get it more "up to date" so to speak. I wish Hobby Plus made a Arktos type platform without the extra flatbed and winch setup. I love my CR18 trail hunter evo, I wish they made a 6x6 version of that. I thought about what it would take to convert my atlas 6x6 to run the bigger motor, 2-speed transmission, hobby plus portals (prefer them over fms portals). Would really love to figure out how to build a chassis that properly fits the fms power wagon hardbody onto all that too, replace the cheap looking lexan atlas body. Still wouldn't want to let everything leftover from the atlas go to waste... I have also wanted to build a half-track. Maybe I could use the Arktos flatbed as a base for a cargo bed with a soft top cover. find a somewhat functional quality toy grade military truck for the cab and tank for the tracks. Would be a fun project to get creative with. Not in my opinion. Axial is a toy store when it comes to SCX24 and AX24. The AX1 is the last SCX24 I bought. It didn't end the SCX24 type builds it just took Axial out of the SCX24 builds. To be fair Traxxas has no part on any of my TRX4M type builds too. FCX24 is dead to me and has been since the 1/24 PowerWagon but that is only because of the company service. The product is very good but with the lying, stealing, scamming, and ignoring of problems (the service) I will not support them. I did buy the 1/10 Atlas on the fathers day sale a couple of years ago because it was suppose to come with the 1/24 6x6 Atlas which they canceled and refunded $65. The 1/24 6x6 Atlas was selling for $111.99 at the time. I accepted the scam and kept the 1/10 Atlas but it ended my support for FMS for the rest of my life. I like my Axial SCX10 Pro but SCX24 is dead to me as well.
At this point the name SCX24 RTR means toys and the only hobby grade comes from third parties.

You can buy a 1/10 for about the money it would take to bring the AX24 out of toy grade. with two good strong steering axles, Two strong servos (e-max is not going to do) brass everywhere including wheels to fight the electronics being stacked into a tall tower, and a good motor that would require a good transmission.
I did this to mine before salvaging some good stuff I put on it, and gave it away for free.

I'm new to the hobby. I purchased an Axial SCX24 then gave it to my kid. Why? It sucks! My kid even thinks it sucks. I have no nostalgia for the brand. Horizon Hobby is a mega-player, and they are obviously milking the hobbyist market. I built two SCX24-based all-custom trucks that I like okay, but the layout and design is fundamentally problematic. I've heard people do not like Traxxas, but as a new guy I have no reason to hate them. I feel ripped off by Horizon Hobby/Axial, so if I feel any derision toward any brand it is them. Their trucks aren't even worth $50. I won't be buying anything else from Axial, and will think carefully before grabbing anything owned by Horizon.

Horizon hobbies is really hit and miss even when you get a cool new vehicle the parts aren't available for months I don't blame you for being frustrated with them

It’s why I stick to 1/10 or bigger

You are comparing apples and oranges. 1/24 to 1/18.

Is he? He seems to prefer the bigger scale and hardware like I do. That is comparison I guess but what is wrong with that? We are not comparing a orange pie and a jar of apple marmalade to an apple pie and a jar of orange marmalade.
