Axial AX24 - NEW Chassis and 4WS! - Is it worth it?

- After a few years of massive popularity, Axial is finally dropping a new 24th scale platform that still uses some familiar parts. This is a performance first approach to the 24th scale world. Adding 4WS right out of the box and the new TVP style chassis totally changes what this truck is like.

I’m glad to see Axial continuing this line of vehicles. Cheap crawler for those of us who’s space is at a premium and something to get the youngins, or those new to the hobby, into it without breaking the bank. Thanks for the video Josh🤘🏻🤙
Finally, i dont wanna pay 600-700 for an rc, 150 and one or two mod and its perfect for me, bunch of crying babies just dont freaking buy it, servicing the community 😂 wth are people talking about
My dad painted the bodies for the ax10, axial sent him 3 bodies and he sent them back the orange and green one. They paid him by sending him an ax10 before they were released. Pretty cool to see they brought it to the 1/24 scale.
neat story...
These 1/24 cars are great for kids. This throttle response on scx24 has really helped get my 4 year old more comfortable compared to my 1/10 stuff
Monthly Mayhem alert: AX24 Top Speed challenge. Bonis points for +50mph. Haa haa haa
I will be getting one of these once it hits my local hobby shop. I like some of the options this comes with, but it will need aftermarket parts like any rc needs.
My first scx24 was turned into a custom rig within a month. This rig is what I wanted out of my 24th scale crawler. A motor and shock upgrade would have been all that's needed. I wonder if the axial jeep gladiator body could be mounted on that frame.
i like it. i kinda wish maybe it had come with a bigger motor but there are some good small motor options on the market now. it looks like it might be hard to fit a bigger motor in there anyways. maybe we'll get an 18th or 24th scale wraith spawn later in the year \m/ y'all have a badass day \m/
Pretty cool little truck. Makes me wish I'd have kept my ax10. It had some serious torque twist, but was still a fun truck. Great review 👍👍
That thing has crazy torque twist, just convert a regular scx24
Josh, your reviews are objective and balanced. Much better than the typical “read the brochure” reviews common on YT.
Very informative! Thanks Josh. I’m excited about this. Hope there is room for a little longer motor can
You're gonna sell a lot of upgraded servos for this rig.
YESSSS!!! My first crawler was the ax-10 artr back in 2007. I still have 95% of it tucked away but it’s long been converted to a scx10. I’ll buy this one just based on that. But the 1/24 stuff is popping up more and more all over from public events to backyard comps.
Reminds me of my Losi mini rock crawler in 2008.
Still got mine and its 4ws too
Not my scale category, screws are too small, if 10th scale my order would be placed .loved what we could do with the ax10 platform. See ya next video Josh, enjoyed your preview anyway.
At the beginning I was like u until I bought the right screwdriver without stripping any screws, makes my life lot easier, cant wait to have this new rc
Kind of on both sides of the fence on this one. I do like the throwback design and the price isn't bad for it. I also am kind of over the whole small scale stuff as it looks cool but I prefer the larger scale stuff. I think for the money I will buy the TRX4M as it will be better suited for where I drive.
The TRX4M really is fantastic - definitely the overall best mini crawler on the market right now.
Already ordered my ax24! Waiting impatiently for it to be delivered and waiting on more companies to produce more upgrades for the ax24! Seems alot of parts from the scx 24 will fit though thankfully. Hopefully I am not disappointed when it arrives.
Just ordered one can’t wait to review it in person thanks for the video you 💯% sold me I hit you subscribe button
Hi Josh thanks for sharing this great scx with us. Out them all this is definitely my favourite. 🇬🇧🇺🇲🕊️🤩✌🏼🤟🏼👌🏼
I'll probably have to try this one as I don't have anything 4WS. Inexpensive way to test the waters.
Same here, couldnt agree more!
This is awesome love the nostalgia about it I owned one of the very 1st ax10´s when axial first stared making them from nitro motors to the leader in crawling innovation wow how the times have changed 😂
This would look amazing on a trailer behind one of the more 'scale' small scale trucks like the TRX-4M or one of the FMS rigs.
Of course something I find funny on the box they take a dig at traxxas for using bushings, while this thing comes with friction shocks, which haven't been good since ever.
Certainly looks like a fun little rig though! And with 3 inches of articulation it has more than one of my 1:10 trail trucks!
Looks like I might have to get one,I still have a brand new 10th scale XC1, they did a pretty good job replicating this in 24 scale actually.
Just got rid of my dementor chassis 4ws scx24 in a trade for an scx6. Glad to see axial come out with a good replacement for me.
It doesn't really excite me but I think it'll blow up in the mini market. I'm willing to bet we see mini Asylums running around before the end of the year.
I’ve pre-ordered one in orange can’t wait for this
IMO this is a great addition to the 1/24 scale line. But they should offer as a builder kit, too. Or at least offer a brushless kit.
I installed 3mm OD, 1mm ID silicone o-rings on my shock shafts inside the body to take the bounciness out. I also used them on every pivot ball to take the "slop" out... I'm not allowed to share a link but they were purchased on Amazon. Just thought I'd share.
I love my SMS orange long sleeve, too.
I love it!!! I have 2 AX10s holding my shelf down. I never was a hugh trail truck fan. I'm glad there is a 1:24 Comp Crawler option now.
I have a mate who has many many small scale crawlers. But he said I can't afford 1/10 now he has one 1/10 and maybe 15, 24 scales. And some worth more than a moded 1/10
Between matt and you.. I want one now.. it's kinda cool. A throw back to the og days.
Like the factory 4WS , but with that I like to see an Axial upgrade of Brushless motor and ESC for a finer control of slow climbs. Will look forward to seeing your upgrades. Thanks.
Cool little 4ws rig, it will be interesting what people do with them.
I'm new to the hobby, but I love my AX24! Not crazy about the velcro, and the body always popping out of the frame kinda makes me nuts...I just put wheel weights, headlock wheels, and new tires this evening...
Perfect inside cheap rock crawler hands down. New motor , some brass , news servos and thats it.
If they really wanted to go for performance, they should have done an xr24.. 24's aren't my cup of tea but performance is performance..
That's an awesome idea!
I still have my losi micro MRC.this reminds me of those. Perhaps it's time to get back into the micro comp crawler scene.
I like it. Will definitely pick one up.
Now lets get that old AX10 back with upgrades and improvements. That was a real crawler.
It will be a good place to start a capable build.
I wish I had seen this before 3 days ago when I order my new scx24 chassis for a build.
They’re already in stock at my local Walmart!
Count me in on this one!
These 1/24th crawlers are getting big! Losi micro crawler
I got mixed emotions. The AX10 was my first axial truck and still have most the truck. I feel like a mini wraith or capra or any buggy would have done better in the market right now but still an interesting release
Yh I agree I have a ax10 and it's good but only have it for nostalgia there is a reason they don't make them like that anymore... Its not great 🤣 way to much flex and high CG like you said a wrath or Capra would be better for performance.
I've seen more people wanting a wraith, capra, and bomber in 24 than something like this. For what it is its cool but kind of a miss. Maybe do it in 1/18 like the losi mini crawler.
@@maxnelson4728 yh
There is a 1/18 Capra, the UTB18.
Man if I thought packaging and wiring on the scx24 chassis was hard... 😅
Looks good though! Thanks for the in depth review as always. I am definitely not a fan of the body style, but that's easy enough to take care of 👍
I need one to put next to my scx24 for sure. The rear steer should add alot of fun out on the course.
I have a deadbolt and a c10, and will eventually have the bronco, jlu, and gladiator. But…I think this one may be my next. 4ws kind of wins me over too.
Im thinking this would be killer with a 3d printed wraith/bomber/capra styled tube chassis and changing up electronic/battery mounting for a lower cog..
I still have my AX-10 Scorpion!
the intro hahaha indeed ... there is such a thing as overkill :D
Finally a good reviewer worth watching! Love you Harley
Scale is fun to obsess over, but this is would be a great f'ing around truck for camping without taking up too much room.
Pretty cool. Will I get one, yea. I'm more exciting about getting a larger sized Rick Lizards!!! Now re-release the 1/10th Betty body!!!
I have done so much to my SCX24 that at this point, I don't think I could even call it an SCX24 anymore... Now that I'm thinking about it however, I'm sure if I opened up my spare parts bin, spent $20 on 2 driveshafts, and gave myself an hour, I could build back my original SCX24 and have 2! Thanks for the idea 😂
I decided i needed a komoto in my AX 1. Well dont do it. Yes she creaps, but you gotta chop up the frame to do it. Im pulling the springs to help lower center of gravity. Also got brass wheels to go on. Then be creative making a front body mount.
I'm going to get one and right away turn it into a monster truck. The 4 wheel steering is just asking for it
I might get one just to redesign my 1/24 capra to fit this style skid and links
Reminds me of my Losi mini rock crawler in 2008
nice video. i love the minis. im the guy that built eric camps atlas in alaska. he told me to come sub. i have 6 scx24s and would love to add one of these to my collection. thx for the cool video!
i like the throwback nostalgia... ive got some pretty in depth builds going on, i think ill stick to my echo for now, but i do want one eventually, just because its built that way stock and im sure more comps will start doing 4ws stock class so it has a good shot at being fun in that category for me anyways
Thanks for the great review! It looks like fun with the 4WS, but I’m more about the scale side apparently. The rigs that are more scale than this appeal to me more.
This is pretty close to the micro Capra I wanted, and the one that was predicted in the SNU comments. The issue I see comes from the TVP chassis, which are prohibited from most 10th scale comp formats, other than that, I’d slap a different body on it, a micro brushless system, and it’d easily meet Class 2 requirements.
Radio should be able to bind with any SLT receiver like tactic tr325 with built in antenna or specktrum slr300 to run brushless
What I'm trying to get around is the spectrum badging the controller is a bit big as well. They probably scrambled this together after seeing the turning radius of the TRX4M.
Imo, if you buy or have bought an scx24, you're going to mod it and 4 wheel steering is something that's pretty easily achievable. The only difference to me is, do you want a scale looking rig, or not? If yes, then scx24, if no, ax24. I'll stick with my modded scx24 that's pretty much this truck except easier to work on.
Sweet.... A new contender
You guys should do a 24th scale terrain build off series.
Mine is on order.
Needs the Betty body
Definitely getting one, was looking at building something outta a 24 gladiator, now this just makes it that much easier, an it'll match my 2 AX10s I still have, lol
I think the Velcro is a mistake on the heals of the clip system Traxxas used for the TRX4M. Would have been great to see Axial come out with a new way. I’m building a 1/24th as we speak. lol
Would have liked a 1/24 Bomber version more.
This is clearly gonna get the people all wet with nostalgia to bite on 24th scale if they haven't already. While 24th scale isn't really my thing, I can appreciate it for what it is.
I think it's a win. I just spent too much money on an injora buggy chassis, long travel shocks and converting it to 4WS. I could've just got this.
.... Losi discontinued the Micro Crawler in like 2013.
But I do like the 4WS and will probably grab one.
I'm wondering if I can bind a nicer spectrum transmitter and get proportional rear steer?
I believe the SCX24 came with the same tires.
Getting this will help use up some leftover Mod parts... 👍
I wish they released it sooner
Aliexpress or Wish?
Good for people who don't want to build an SCX24. Building out a 24th scale to my ultimate 4WS crawler is a point of pride for me and Half of the Fun. No Thanks
I hope this means they will release a 1/10 version of this. that would be awesome
What did I win??? I guest it correct in the live stream last night, I said 1/24 Capra, witch it basically is. Even the wheels are the same as the 1/18 Capra. I am excited 🏁🏁🏁👍🎉👏
Really feel like Axial/ Horizon are not listening to the true scx24 enthusiast. Not alot of people on the Fb groups are too excited for this.
Will the spektrum run a separate esc like the V1 electronics did and the V2 should have?
Would make upgrading it a lot cheaper with a esc and motor swap along with some good servos and a separate bec to run them both.
It’s okay I guess..Should’ve been a 1/24th RR bomber rock racer of something though.
Is that the Xzibit beat though?!?
I believe they failed by not improving on the motor& esc and battery. Heavier bigger wheels ,I'd rather just customize the OGs.
I just got it for 100 off to practice on the obstacles im making for a park on my property after winter. It's going to be a not for profit club for others with mental ilness, like myself, a former first responder with ptsd. Im hoping to have 20 to 30 rigs free for members to use and any donations people make to join the club will go back into the landscaping ill be doing myself on my property. There's no hobby grade rc scene for around 400 miles and i live on an island where the closest shop is a 5 hour drive to Halifax. Im hoping to introduce the hobby locally and start a scene. There's no heathy activities for people to do around here that are family friendly and do not involve either movie theatres or booze. Im on the sbg forum offering free led kits to people who want to make their own diy lighting looms. I got my first taker in Virginia and I'm on the east coast of Canada. He's geting a 10lb package haha.
I collect leds so i have something for everyone, even the multimeter to go along with the solderless prototyping stuff so people can learn ohms law and customize their rigs. It's an open offer for free in us or Canada and I pay postage. I can afford to send out 1 to 2 kits per week. I'd like to give to the community so people can learn how easy it is to make electronic mods to new, old, 3d printed or rtr kits.
No strings attached. I know how i said what my plans are but you dont give to receive. The kits i make are catered to whatever people want to get out of it. Might as well use the extra channels on the receiver for something and the 5v square wave can support many different types of lighting or scale effects.
I like my Devastator
Looks like the original Losi Nightcrawler.
The Losi Night Crawler was based on the original Losi Comp Crawler which came out in 2010. However this looks like the original AX10 that came out in 2007. The Losi’s were late to the party.
"Is it perfect? Nope" sounds like a challenge for a Phoenix 24
I’m considering buying this and a scx24 chassis lmao 🤣
I'm curious if the transmission is the same as the SCX24.
When are we a getting a Xr24??🤔
Vanquish and Redcat have not made a 1/24 crawler …yet.
Nice video!
Hi pick me one up the orange and silver I love it, I’ve put the front brass steering knuckles on from cc XRC I want to black knuckles. Also mofo RC brass tie rod and drag link just the front performs great
I need to pick up some parts from Tony for mine too.
Pretty cool
I would have loved to see a 1/24 wraith instead but this is cool too. Are the axles same width as scx 24 axles?
Great vid as usual Josh. Not a fan of this chassis. Scale looks and performance are what I like. Seems to be a bobble head. And 4WS I have an Akers Engineering Moon Buggy and is an awesome rig.
