Lyrics:
Never had a doubt in the beginning
Never a doubt
Trusted you true in the beginning
I loved you right through
Arm in arm we laughed like kids
At all the silly things we did
You made me promises, promises
Knowing I'd believe
Promises, promises
You knew you'd never keep
Second time around, I'm still believing
The words that you said
You said you'd always be here
"In love forever" still repeats in my head
You can't finish what you start
If this is love it breaks my heart
You made me promises, promises
You knew you'd never keep
Promises, promises
Why do I believe?
Arm in arm we laughed like kids
At all the silly things we did
But you can't finish what you start
If this is love it breaks my heart
You made me promises, promises
You knew you'd never keep
Promises, promises
Why do I believe
All of your promises
You knew you'd never keep
Promises, promises
Why do I believe?
Promises
Promises
Promises
Promises
Promises

It’s 2024, and the song is still so cool. Timeless classic.
Your sarcasm is noted 🤣🤣🤣
2024 and I consider this trip down memory lane a gift.
The world singing this to their leaders makes it current as ever
@@Mothershipministry Absolutely!
Absolutely Love this Song 🎵 It's Timeless.
Released in 1983, this song stands up as perfect example of the New Wave era, and its still incredibly fresh 40 years on.
Masterpiece
Thanks to Tony Mansfield's production.
Absolutely love this song, it has always been a favorite of mine.
@@ifpjvl 🙌
Damn that was good!! #facts
VERY underrated song. People kept saying that they liked, There's Always Something There To Remind Me. Not me however, I LOVE this song.
Ditto
i like both lol
Me too
You are allowed to like or love both songs🤷🏽♂️
I like them both. But "Promises, Promises" is definitely my favorite of the two. In fact, there are a few other Naked Eyes originals that rank higher in my book than "Always Something There To Remind Me." Although all of their material is great!
This was the beauty of MTV. It gave us a different variety of music that we otherwise would not have been exposed to through radio.
SO TRUE!!!!
Back when MTV actually played ▶️ music 🎶 🎵 😪 😐 😕.
@@shaneomacdaddyQuite! It's a shit show except for RIDICULOUSNESS.
@@jchapman8248 Yes, I agree 👍🏻 with you.
You are sooo right about that. ✊🏿
1981-85 best years of my life and some of the best music. I’ll be 72 in 2 months!😊
We have memories
@@victormarrotti2575 good ones 😀
I hear you brother. I am 65 and the 60s, 70s and 80s have great music memories for me too.
The 80's were awesome.
Right on
The funky hook on this song is timeless
Absolutely! Especially the refrain part. It's hypnotizing. Genius composition.
perfect example of 80s music thats stands the test of time.
still sounds good today almost 40 years later.
yeah man, the composition and transitions are just fucking perfect lol
1980-1989 the best years of my teen years. Im 54 and i miss everything above the 80s
Me too
56 here n yesss I miss the 80's too! It was the best time to be alive esp as a teen!
80's were the best songs movies sports .I am 55 yrs old and loved growing up great times
This technically is THEIR best song, as "Always Something There To Remind Me" while brilliant was a cover song.
While "Always Something..." was indeed a cover song, it may interest you to know that Burt Bacharach (RIP), it's composer, considered it his favorite version of all its iterations.
1983 was a great year for music.
I really liked this song.
Totally agree. The 1980s had the best music. 🙂
Was it ever
40 years ago y'all, we are getting old 😢.
80's = BEST.
This song has one of the best guitar solos of the entire 80's
Brevity being the soul of wit, I love a succinct guitar solo. Ace Frehley used to enliven my soul in two bars. 🎸
Traveling from Panama City Beach, FL to Ft. Benning Ga rushing through the country road in a convertible Camaro Z28. What a time to be young
This song has always been my favorite song of theirs, and I’m glad to see comments here that share my sentiments👏👏👏

This is one of those songs where the whole is greater than the sum of its parts. So much goodness and subtlety going on that makes it a bonafide and timeless ear worm.
First time, I've heard this song in over 40+years. You could play that song right now, and it would be a top ten hit! And no one would know the difference. Just a badass song.
Believe it or not, this is my very first time seeing this video. Promises, promises, by Naked Eyes is an 80’s classic.
♬ me too !!! Though I had heard the song in my teens. Love it
Welcome.
This is a VERY underrated song. This is a quintessential 80s song. This is one of the many key songs that defined the era we've come to know as the 80s. . . . What an era it was. I miss it so much.
I feel you man. 💯
I listened this song over 25 times today on my way to Seattle. Just can’t stop listening it
That's a lot of Promises!

☆LONG LIVE THE 80'S☆
Criminally the most underrated band!
This song takes me back to being 11 years old again. Classic jam showing just how otherworldly music in the 80s was. And it doesn't matter the genre, either. The 90s were amazing but, the 80s were magical.
Ikr?? Junior high life. All the dorky and weird tween years
Hah! 11 here too at the time. Still love this song.
Brings back such strong memories of the friends and family members who were still alive then. I miss them all terribly
Absolutely gone but never forgotten 💔❤😢.
I definitely know what you mean ,so many people in my family that were alive back then that are gone now.

It is September 2023, and as I recall, it was 40 years ago this month that this song was one of the big hits!

2022’ still goin strong 🤓🇺🇸
And soon, 2023 as well!!
Just heard this song in Wal-Mart today and brought me right back to my childhood. This track is a great example of the 80s.
I just heard it at Fred Meyer, I had it in my head the whole ride home. Well now here I am listening 🎶 ❤
@@deannapushruk4212 song is a definite ear worm. Never really analyzed the lyrics till recently but they are very open and descriptive although very telling of how a lot of relationships can be destructive.
I had just started first grade. Lol, I am 44 now. This easily is in my top 5 80’s songs of all time. My love for 80’s music, especially New Wave, started in Elementary School.
It’s amazing how dark this video is considering how upbeat the song is.
OK BOOMER NO ONE ASKED
What are your other top 4 80's songs?
This is an example of lyrical dissonance. The lyrics are so sad, yet the music is so cheerful. Then, of course, the video takes the darkness of the lyrical content and amps it even darker.
me to i was born in 1983 i just turned 40 last year
My senior year in HS.
Best song from Naked Eyes.....
Best song of '83 and yes I thought it out!!
Agree with you with one difference. The album version is IMHO, better than the single version which is used in this video -- better intro, some lyrical differences and most of all, _longer._

This is a live version they did at the world cafe ruclips.net/video/3VVJ5FA2nPQ/видео.html
Original second verse and chorus words before they were changed for this version: Second time around, I'm done retrieving, I'm losing my ground. This time around, there's no relief (belief?) in what you wanted you found. Now you're saying you and me are not your style or cup of tea.
Thanks for posting the lyrics to one of my favorite songs of the eighties. Another one with a similar message is Taken In by Mike and The Mechanics. Very jazzy. Most remember The Living Years but Taken In has a special place in my heart for songs about fools.
Everybody Plays the Fool sometime. That one's from the seventies. Then there's Promises, Promises by Dionne Warwick from the sixties. Totally different song but just as good. Written by Burt Bacharach RIP. Who also wrote There's Always Something There to Remind Me. So full circle.
Cannot go wrong with this song, the 1980's were fantastic.
Never truly understood this song until I became older
Also a big MTV hit in 1983 a great year for music. Bought this 45 around the second week in was in the top 40 and still have it.
Their keyboardist Rob Fisher died in 1999 age 39 (stomach ailment) so sad.
This song is my "today's earworm" Can't stop singing it.
Still a banger!!!!
This is my childhood years . I was 8 years old when i had this song on Cassette !
This is my favorite 80s banger. So good.
Brings back radio from the 80's. Great song, underrated.
I want my M TV- back like when it was first introduced! The music was and is awesome. Did I mention that I’m 70!
One of so many outstanding 80s songs!!! This one helped to make it the greatest musical era of my life. Thanks Naked Eyes!
I also feel like anything after 80s was watered down or wasn't as authentic as 80s ,musically 80s was when music was at its peak with sound engineering and technology.
Give an ear to When the Lights Go Out.

One of the greatest songs 🙌
This played on my 80's mix while I was driving along the beach last night and it just seemed to be the perfect song to listen to at the perfect time.
An 80's classic... and one of my all time favorites.
I live through the 80s. Best decade ever. Times fly quickly
The of the best songs ever made. That beat is so beautiful and the lyrics so simple but so deep !! 👌🏽👌🏽
這節奏和旋律真的是無敵的,我覺得是不輸Billie Jean、Maneater、Maniac等歌曲的超級神曲
This song was the best of the entire 80s !! 💕🏆👍🇺🇸
This is such a great 80s song it deserves more views!
Summer of 1983. Just turned 22. Memories 🤗
Yes!!
The 80's will always be my decade of The Best Music hands down!!!
The girl I love gave me such promises. She was confused and left me dreaming of us. I loved this music the second I realised the truth it tells.
One of my favorite pop songs from the 80s.
When this song came out in 83, I liked the rhythm and the beat. It wasn't until I rediscovered this song about 4-5years ago I totally understood what the song meant given the fact that I went through some personal drama and tribulations.
Going through that right now. Went back to this song when “promises you knew you’d never keep” popped in my head.
So underrated. I love this song.
The whole album was great one of my favorites of the era
60's 70's & 80's music was so great.. What happened with the new generations ??
Also add 50s to that and I so agree, man.
The majority of music was great, during the 20th Century. 21st Century "eh" not so great🤦🏾♀️
Nah
Nothing, you just prefer old music. There's genres and era's for everyone.
I even like music from the 1940s. But the early 80s produced the bulk of my favorite pop and rock songs.
What a good song about making promises to other people.
The 80’s, THE BEST DECADE!
Just remembered this song now - exactly fourty years after its release.😃💖
After decades and decades...still can't get this ear candy out of my head.
Great song! Simple beat, great voice, nice lyrics, very calming. "When you made me promises, promises. Knew you'd never keep"
1983 ! fun year , great music!

Oh boy, loved this song and all the others I see. Never realized Naked Eyes did so much.
If you can find it, give a listen to their first album. It's the one with both "Always Something There..." and "Promises..." Every track is a banger! I played it to death back in the day.
A essência da música anos 80!
I’m addicted to this song. I wasn’t as attached in the 80s…it has aged well. The intro! Omg!!!
80s kid right here man it was great time to be a kid. Coming from a small New York State town upstate. Staying out all night in the summer mom and dad not having a care. Going to the local pizza joint fora pie and coke. Then going for ice cream then to the drive in for double feature. With your friends. Yes I loved being a kid in the 80.s
I will always love this song
