The Toybota/Nissank is actually such a genius concept. If only literally anyone but Clarkson had engineered it, it would work pretty well.

I love how the coast guard was like "Good luck then" when Jeremy said that they were trying to get to France quicker than Richard Branson!
Imagine how good this concept would have been if Clarkson hadn't refused to fit a prow and had fitted retractable suspension, and they'd sealed it against leaks properly. I bet it would have beaten Branson.
but that wouldn't be interesting.
Most of this trio shenanigans will work if made more properly, sometimes some of it are pretty obvious. If they did that, it might not be as funny.

@@Firemarioflower No, it never sank but the amount of water it took on and got inside the engine certainly wouldn't have been healthy for it though, with the right adjustments it could quite easily beat Branson's record.

@Garry Ellison one doesn't go around punching the producers without repercussions. I didn't like it either but Clarkson brought it on himself.

Must say, I'd beat Clarkson to death on sight. Antics perhaps, funny - definitely, but he's just not a nice person at all and some of the things he says (I'm talking the stuff that isn't scripted) deserves a good thorough beating.

@@whovianhistorybuff And that's how the engineering crew escaped - in a big cup of tea that the artificers hurriedly fabricated. Sadly, it got stone cold in the North Atlantic waters and they all fund that, when a skin formed on top of it, it was totally unpalatable and so they had to abandon the cuppa..

I love their coast guard. Here in "murca" you'd be arrested. They're just like, ahh good luck then mate.
+Jar-Jar Binks it is illegal if you don't have permission, Britain is not part of the Schengen area. The coast guard were in on it, it was all set-up , it usually is on Top Gear.
+Morgan Etches Shengen agreement is for non-EU citizens travelling freely within Shengen Area if they got visa from one of the Shengen countries. For EU citizens, they can come and go and live and work in any EU countries.
+Luka Yu Um, no, the main issue of Schengen is that within the Schengen area you can pass from country to country without border controls. You cannot pass from Britain to the rest of the EU without border controls, showing passport etc. I know this, I am English and live in Greece, so I have been through the British border a few times :P So you can't just hop on a boat and sail across the channel unless you have permission otherwise all the refugees in Calais would have done that already.
If you tried to sail a boat from Britain to France or vice versa without official permission you would get in a huge amount of trouble

I know that. Sorry, I must have read this thread wrongly. I meant for British, you can come and go within EU freely. It's nothing to do with Schengen area.

ShadoWxBombeR This plane has a Propeller, that means it's a piston engine plane. Please name any Piston Propelled aircraft that has even come close to breaking the sound barrier. All the Aircraft that come close to the sound barrier are jet propelled. I'm no airplane expert, but It's never exceed speed is probably somewhere around 160.
One of my favorite Top Gear moments this shouldve been included in the Guiness book of world records for a car transformed to a boat and crossing the ocean
It didn't beat a record though. Branson had a faster speed doing the same thing besides the channel is hardly an ocean.

My first vehicle I had was a 1989 Nissan with a 2.4 liter 4 cylinder 5 speed engine. That truck stayed with me for seven years before I had to sell it because it wouldn't pass a California smog test since one of the cylinders burned out. However, that truck was a beast. Used it to move to Washington from California and drove in the snow up there for 2 years before moving back. When I first saw this episode of Top Gear, I was feeling so proud to see they were using almost the same exact truck I drove back in High School. Kinda brought a tear to my eye.

Remarkable similarities between the original amphibious car attempt on Rudyard Reservoir (Series 8) and this one.. Hammond's capsized on both occasions, he paid "£1M" for the same piddly outboard to rescue him (both times), they went for the same types of vehicle both times, but while Capt. Slow won the original race, Jeremy won this one in the Nis-sank because he wasn't so ham(mer)-fisted about finishing it. =)

It didnt actually sink. Thats why you just see a quick shot of it on its side and then the guys just in the water. Theres a crew with them the whole time and if there was a dramatic capsizing and going under they would have shown every bit. Combination of legal (including environmental) and safety reasons it wasnt allowed to sink and the shot of it on its side was probably down much closer in to the shore.
Anyone gonna mention how cool the coast guard was with all this? It's like they hear it everyday lol
