Get the lexus but do the basic services at Toyota dealership to save mad money!
Or service it yourself
Yes !
@@golferpro1241 just have receipts to show you were servicing the vehicle
Yes don’t have a Lexus dealership in my town yet but had a rx350 for 7 years never had to bring it to the Lexus always got it done at Toyota even whenever the sunroof broke on it
I service my lexus in toyota dealer it costs 50% less money
This is an example of where Toyota cars are getting so good they have to intentionally make it ugly to justify buying Lexus.
They have good engineers.
Beauty is subjective.
@@TEDdotcom but lexus IS Toyota.
@blackpassenger: it doesn’t matter if they’re from the same company. Its like a big family. Not everyone looks gorgeous. Some look plain, some stand out. You have a choice.
Toyota Prius! an example of Ugliness ......
The ES is better looking, but the Avalon is a better value.
The rear of the Avalon is better looking than that of the ES, with its slanted rear lights.
Yet again most people don't buy both car.
campkira People bought a ton of ES lol.
Avalon looks better
@@ERogers-qn2sm 5 years later my opinion has change. Avalon all the way
I have a 2019 Lexus ES with the Premium package. I wanted the F-Sport with a panoramic roof, but unfortunately it is only available on the Ultra Luxury trim which I did not want. My sister has a 2013 Avalon Limited, last generation, which to me, falls between the Camry and the ES when it comes up luxury. Given they have so much in common, you can’t go wrong with either vehicle. There is a clear difference in quality of materials and technology between these vehicles which justifies the 5K difference in price. In my opinion, both cars are worthy contenders, and the better car is the one that best meets the needs and requirements of the customer.
both are wonderful cars. i looove the lexus tho
I went with the Avalon Hybrid Limited. I got a good discount on a year end 2020 and to get the same equipment on an ES was probably a huge difference. I look at the Avalon as premium where the ES is true lux. If you want value go with the Avalon if you want badge status and true lux get the ES.

@@sulemanshaikh1200 Quote: "He looks like Scotty Kilmer" Um, no, he doesn't.

Scotty is so annoying.
I like the ES, I owned a 2015, and I like the front of the Lexus better. However I drove the Avalon this time and I liked it. It's not quite as refined as the Lexus, which really is to be expected, but it certainly is not that much below the Lexus in ride quality and interior refinement. The "real" difference happens when you go and try to make a deal. The $5K stated in this review quickly becomes closer to $10K when you are sitting in the chair talking money. I like the fact that the rear seats are heated, and fold down. Unavailable in the ES at any trim. To me it just was not worth the difference as the drivetrain is basically the same. I ended up buying the Avalon Limited loaded out the door for $37K, and am very happy with my decision.
The Avalon is pretty but the ES is just better with the design
Avalon pretty with that grill ?
alpha7ization haha
Camry front+ Avalon rear 👌
@@VirtualWonderBoy Camry front isn’t that great looking either.
@@iishyxvietxboyii How?
Badge engineering done right, for the most part....although there is room for improvement. A more powerful powertrain and AWD would do the ES wonders!

Gotta love when Car Reviews end by saying “so which one is better, we wasted your time of course, that’s a personal decision, but allow us to state the painfully obvious, if you want to spend less money, buy the cheaper one, if you want to spend more money, the Lexus may be for you”

I prefer the Lexus because of the F-Sport & interior.
it only 5,000 buck more. but yet again I don't like ES or Avalon. Why would you buy it?
F Sport is overrated and overpriced on the ES or any other Lexas sedan. F should be left to the RC.
Synthetic leather last longer and doesnt crack as easily. Much better imo
Both are great cars, I think most people would be happy in either of them honestly.
That Avalon looks good. Far from the Grandma Avalon look they had in years past
John Bradley not with that grille 😭🤮
Lexus 🤍🤍
LoL... 😂
I really enjoy your reviews keep up the great work I'd like to see more of these reviews tfcars
I own a 2014 Avalon and the windows do the same soft close, nice touch!!!
You get a Lexus. Lower insurance cost (at least in Canada for luxury cars vs Hondas and Toyotas), one more year of warranty, better curb appeal. I bet the lexus is a bit heavier and more refined - safer by a few points. Done; Lexus it is!
Good points. I might also add resale value (for the Lexus).
Why lower cost for a luxury car? Im from the states and generally the more it costs to fix the higher the price to insure it since it is a greater risk?
In the US Luxury cars are more expensive to insure
ES has no touch screen.
@@iishyxvietxboyii It does for 2022
I love the red seats on the Lexus.
Mike testing body disposal for the mob.
I like the front of the Lexus, and the rear of the Toyota.
Sheikh same here
That's exactly what I think of too about my wife and my new girl friend.
I have test driven both the Avalon touring and Limited hybrid and the ES F Sport and Hybrid. All drive really smoothly, handling is good and the hybrid acceleration for everyday driving is responsive on both. The Lexus looks better and interior is just a bit nicer. Lexus infotainment needs some education and experience to operate. Since I think the Avalon grill is going to look pretty dated in 4 or 5 years, for the extra money I would go for the Lexus.
Both the ES and Avalon are the respective best versions of themself this generation. But I’ve been in both cars and make no mistake, the ES is a far nicer car inside and out. The design is more elegant, the ride more supple, and as nice as the Avalon’s interior is, the ES is still nicer with nicer materials. The ES is in fact so good, it nearly renders the larger LS pointless if it wasn’t for its RWD/AWD architecture and executive rear seat. For $5,000 more, the ES is the way to go.
Useless comment. You rather go for materials and looks more than a better reliable car. Avalon can last way longer than the lexus can hold. You will have more issues with the Lexus than the Avalon ...
@@hamocktrail Four years ago lol.
The ES is the better car. That’s why it’s still around today while the Avalon has been out to rest. Numbers don’t lie mate. Goodnight
You are TOTALLY correct. I’ve driven thousands of Toyota’s and Lexus vehicles in the last twenty-five years in the industry; they have numerous similarities, but Lexus typically creates a far more refined and upscale ride and uses obviously better materials. It’s extremely noticeable if you drive both brands back to back. I agree!
In my experience the level of service at the Lexus dealership is second to none.
I really like this video explaining the difference between these 2 cars. Outstanding job.
I drove both and the ES makes the Avalon feel cheap and I’m a guy who was already impressed with the Avalon.
I'd pay 5k to not have that Avalon front grille.
Blakslee Woody I’m content with the grill on my 2016 Avalon hybrid limited. I would have gladly gone for the es300h as I definitely like the styling better. but there weren’t any around me, and a Toyota hybrid Powertrain was one of my main requirements lol. However I still look at it and appreciate it every time
I love the avalon. Built like a tank. Cant kill it. But the front has got to go. They mess up a good car with weird front design. Damn!
No you wouldn’t lol
Super love that grille
😂
Lexus - bulletproof reliability luxurious cars
Nice to see a big guy doing these reviews.
I kept my 97 Avalon when I bought my Jaquar, still shooting around in the avalon! Been a great car and might buy another.
The BEST large luxury FWD sedans money can buy.
Bravo Toyota and Lexus. I want both the XSE Avalon and F Sport ES. I can’t pick lol. The Avalon does look more aggressive then the ES
Avalon Touring better than XSE
Thanks for reviewing these. After seeing this, I'll happily stick with my 2019 Camry Hybrid.
Stephen Gillie y would u get a hybrid smh
Somebody told me once... The Lexus is a RICH Man's car, but the AVALON is a WISE MAN's Lexus! 🧐
Happy Car Reviews true.... so is the solara Coupe. It’s a stylish luxurious coupe badged as a Toyota but it’s really as nice as a Lexus. I own a Lexus ES330, and a 2004 Toyota Solara Coupe. Love em both
@@805NAVE Should I we assume you are a rich and wise man?
Just kidding, thanks for the feedback😅
@@HappyCarReviews haha I am Wise but not rich, which is why I resort to buying used luxury toyotas and Lexus 😂
That somebody never owned one then, if you have ever owned a luxury vehicle and consider getting anything less, you notice it big time, the overall feel is diminished, the details, etc. I personally could not downgrade anymore and I tried giving some Toyota models a shot after owning a Lexus, just didn't feel right, everything just felt cheap by comparison.
+Happy Car Reviews have fun at the Toyota dealership. I'll continue to enjoy working with Lexus. I would never let a Toyota dealer touch my Lexus.
The Lexus grill looks better!
I love my 2019 Avalon Limited. It does have lane keeping assistance and all the other safety features of the ES350. Plus the Avalon actually is a large sedan unlike the Lexus which is classified as a luxury mid-sized sedan.
@MELLOW
The ES and Limited Avalon have the same engine, transmission, and chassis. It is more than the lane keeping assist even though any tool that adds to safe driving is big in the grand scheme to me! More importantly if am going to spend money on a luxury badge it is going to different enough unlike the ES to justify that even minor price difference. I would not hesitate to buy a LS 500 or an Audi A7. The ES is a Limited Avalon with a Lexus badge, not worth it to me.
How is the ride compared to the es
I bought the ES hybrid, up from a 2013 Avalon hybrid. The ES has a special sound deadening firewall, and special quite wheels. Thus I can hear the Mark Levinson stereo better. I’m old, did I mention that? 🤓
In case some folks don't know,...... The Lexus brand is Toyota's luxury car division. As is Lincoln is Ford's. And Infinity is Nissan's.
Great vid this really helps the people that know the cars are Similar but really Like both and just can’t decide and need the help and advice
The Lexus looks absolutely gorgeous
Ok.....one question. Does the Lexus maintain the $5K difference in resale? If not, the Avalon would be my choice.
From what I've read and research, yes it does.
like that you are local. Noticed it on your map showing 63rd and Lookout. This is a very helpful video, even a few years later.
Thank you for the great review
The Avalon in person looks much better imo. The rear has a surprisingly aggressive look too.
I’d take the Avalon with the TRD appearance package.
TRD Avalon 2020 😍
I would like the ES front with the Avalon's rear, they both have a nice nd ugly side
The Avalon looks great, but Uber's are gonna overdose on these making it less appealing to me, I'll pick the ES, better interior, tail lights, and grill.
Ness Rosenbrad If I’m pitching out the money for a Lexus. I would not get the ES. I’d be getting a RWD platform. Out of these two I don’t think it’s worth the difference.
Agreed. And the Limited version looks nicer than the Touring, i.e., the grill is better integrated into the looks and exhausts tips aren’t fake. But I would prefer the ES non F-sport version ultra luxury pkg.
Driving a 2017 Lexus ES. I love the Wood trim, Wood steering wheel.
My Suggestion is that if you want to go for Avalon...better just get used ES. Same price will give you WAY better feel
I subscribed as soon as I saw you climb inside the trunk. That’s the kind of sacrifice I like to see in auto review videos 😂
I have a 2016 Avalon Touring. I love Ava, she’s fast and smooth, always there when I need her. Built for comfort, not for speed, got some weight to her but she knows how to work it. Move too fast and she’ll let you know, but a dream to ride everyday.
The F-sport comes with active strut dampners and active steering rack that tights up steering. Also you get Fsport race seats and quick shifter paddles. I like the softer standard seat's with lumbar support myself. The fit and finish are better. The engine management gears ups the car in sports plus. The Lexus door trims are well made, if you squeeze the door around the window sill you will notice how much cheaper the window sill is. Also, the leather Lexus is so soft and luxurious. The ES interior is based on the LS's dash look. Yes, I do sell Lexus but I went to car show and checked out Avalon. You do save $5k but you get a better, quieter car with the ES! Avalon 4 star, Lexus 5 stars.
"diamondy" grill.... LMAO
it's the corporate spindle grille that are actually L's....
DatGamerGurl Just like the L's Lexus takes with the customers they Lose out on from their extremely too bold designs 😂😂

Hi Mike, how did you get back out from the inside of that trunk?
An excellent review as always, BTW I'd pick the Lexus any day.
In Europe, the Lexus ES is not available, but Toyota has a 2.5 version of the Avalon called the Camry.
Camrys are everywhere lol even in the states

Love it As a professional chauffeur in Miami trunk space is very important to me thank you for that amazing demonstration
I used to think Lexus is just a Toyota in a tux until I've actually got into a Lexus.
DWS388 is it a lot different than Toyota ?
I just don't think those grille's are as nice as Toyota Design could have made them. I wish they'd all move away from that 'large open fish mouth' design.
My late father hated big grills!
I think that grills are an important part of corporate identity. From the beginning the most obvious thing that distinguishes a Rolls-Royce, Mercedes, Buick, Packard were their grills. By and large the silhouette or profiles of cars change every decade to some extent. Regarding Lexus’ grill, I think of it as a shark nose where they’ve figured out how to integrate the grill into the shape itself instead of the grill underlining a horizonral crossmember functioning as the leading edge. I’m not fond of the Toyota’s two diagonal lines leading to the Toyota emblem in the center. To me it looks like the envelope flap on a lady’s purse with monogram in the center as a magnetic snap like Coach and Louis Vuitton make rendering all Toyota sedans chick mobiles. That’s what they look like to me. Rolling pocketbooks sailing around town.
@@LlyleHunter Bruce, you are speaking of a time when I was a lot younger and we used to wait for each spring when the new cars would be out for that year ( not 1 to 2 years hence ) and we'd try the 'oneupmanship' on our buddies to see who could identify the new cars from the old by that omnipresent grille. Then a few of us, a very few , used to top the other guys by identifying the trucks too.
You mentioned the Packard and Mercedes Benz , well my dear old father, had a '36 Packard Six, and a '48 Lincoln, then I remember the 1972 MB 220,..ah those were 'real' car's weren't they?
In some thing's there are...."the good old days" for sure.

Toyota styling is garish. German styling is more restrained and elegant.
My 2013 Avalon Limited does that same trick with the windows slowing down at the top and bottom of the movement.
Great review!
Good luck cleaning that grill of the toyota.
Can you tell us what the noise decibel is in both cars! I am wondering if the ES has more sound proofing material put into it to give you a more quite ride?
Yes, it does, particularly beneath the floor. And the Luxury and Ultra Luxury trim levels have more soundproofing measures than other ES's.
Hey @TFLNow I don't know what you are classifying lane departure alert and lane keep assist as but the Avalon does have lane departure alert with steer assist which does keep you in your lane and it also has road sign detection as a part of it's Toyota Safety Sense 2.0
Good review bro
The grill on the Avalon is a no go for me, but freakin’ ugly, the ES has a much nicer front end, plus the nicer interior by far IMO. ES wins this comparison. In my mind it’s worth spending the extra 5K to buy it over the Avalon.
@Johnson Long then your just driving a bootlegged car. Plus $ spent on a conversion will be $5k+
When did steam locomotive cow catchers come back into style?
You gotta get the perfect angle when squeezing into the “trunk” 😜
Gotta stay with my 2013 Avalon for daily duty, 2014 Lexus LS460L AWD for long drives and to show off what an ass I am. Wanted the LS for decades, Avalon was what I could afford. Found the LS last year with 10074 miles and half price of new. Couldn’t resist.
AND you got the LS after they debugged the costly problem with the front steering parts. Well bought.
@tflnow Just wondering how is the audio on both cars I noticed on most of your reviews theres no audio system comparison and how do you compare the entertainment part of each vehicle? I might be the only one but where can I find those reviews?
im a lexus fan and also a very brand sort of person..... but the avalon has my solid salutes for how it is. really wins my choice for avalon instead.
Lexus all the way, when you do decide to sell this car. The Lexus will ultimately be worth more, and not to mention all the smaller details that make the Lexus better. Yes they have the same output, but it’s more than just that. Lexus is more stylish and as reliable as the Toyota. Lexus all the way 👍🏻
Joeyabarth17 plus you get all the perks of a Lexus dealer, like complimentary service and loaners and just overall better service
They will overall be worth more but in comparison to the overall resale price vs depreciation you would be looking at the about the same
You are awesome bro. Well detailed. You should be made a Manager. Stay blessed
Looks like Toyota didn't design a $5000 front bumper to cut cost.
I would pay the extra $5K just to have Lexus dealer support. I only buy Lexus, and dealer support and quality is probably the main reason.
What is dealer support
Soft closing windows is not only on the Lexus it even on the old Avalon
I work for Toyota and it's getting more common. The Avalon, Highlander, Lexus ES, amd Lexus RX all have it. Im sure there are more, but that's all that comes through the distribution center that I work at that have it.
Isn't the ES way quieter on the inside? I wish you did a comparison of the interior sound level.
I enjoy this channel because the reviewers are life sized. Not midgets like on so many other channels.
I bought my ES350 brand new in 2007. Still have it - 185,000 miles now and the repairs haven’t been too bad. Going to get another ES350 F sport. Love it!

I bought the Avalon Hybrid Limited and my brother has a ES 350, I spent about the same in the 46k ballpark. I am satisfied with the smoothness of the vehicle. I do have lane keep assist and road sign recognition. I do not have the auto trunk close button though. Just got through a harsh Illinois Winter and with all season tires was quite surprised at the handling. I left behind a Durango R/T AWD and a Ram 2500 Laramie Longhorn 6.7 Cummins for this vehicle for better fuel consumption. My heart is not broken however I do wish I was in something a bit more luxurious. I guess that is a personal issue. I am hoping that the Rivian is a good vehicle, the next pick may be a Rivian, Tesla Model Y, or a Lincoln Aviator Hybrid. I am not going to give up my Avalon though I really like it it is a great vehicle and well built.
"My heart is not broken however I do wish I was in something a bit more luxurious." The Avalon is a fine car, but you just summed up why most people reached a bit higher and chose the ES.

i was cross shopping a 2020 avalon and a 2017 lexus the other day. something about the avalon just felt more, comfortable, idk. i also wasn’t a huge fan of that infotainment controls in the lexus either. overall i actually preferred the interior feel of the avalon, even though the lexus interior LOOKED nicer, it wasn’t as comfortable.
That's because both cars went to a new, upgraded architecture for 2019. You were comparing today's apples to yesterday's oranges.

It would be better to wait one more year and do a comparison of the 2020 TRD Avalon vs. the ES F-Sport since the F-sport does feature performance-esque parts like electronically controlled dampeners. But nonetheless the brand new 2GR-FKS motor is pretty nice.
In Australia, we DID have the Avalon, similar size to the Camry we also had/have - out here -, however the Camry we now have looks much the same as my ES, (I have a 2014 ES300H) which also has an 'H' model. The differences here are in quality of components and build, and they are very significant. You mention that the 2019 model has Apple Carplay, - (OK if you have an Apple, (my dealer didn't mention that;) many things you get that we don't! Android auto - if/when available, would be great [for me that is] to integrate into the infotainment unit giving a larger display for Google Maps or some such. ( I use a little blue tac on my Android phone to replace the in dash screen), - which is a great leap forward because the SatNav (in Aus at least, on my ES is a prime candidate for lighter fluid [also in my opinion], it is is garbage (based on my 2-14 ES an a 2013 GS450H), voice is much the same, - did you try these out? I know you can't get to every thing.
I sat in a 2019 ES300H yesterday and I must say it looked and felt great. The introduction of an 8 speed gearbox instead of the CCV (as on my 2014 model), would be an interesting comparison.
This is the first time I have seen one of your review's, and I must say, YOU in a boot (trunk) with or without it closed, was impressive, (I am glad you knew where the Boot release was before you climbed in, as the seats do not fold down.) but not stack-able like suitcases eh! I think they are both beautiful vehicles.
Toyota can get away with low price gaps on their luxury cars because of resale value.
Try doing that with Ford/Lincoln...
Actually they can also get away with that bc of the lower cost associated with the shared chassis and platform across their Toyota and Lexus lines. It’s been documented.
Is the Lexus seats also Cabernet red or is it brighter
Had a Avalon Limited thinking save money. Loved the car but sadly at not even 2 years old / 20k miles the interior roof was falling apart (3 overnight stays at the dealer to finally fix), the motorized sunshade broke and then the sunroof refused to close. Traded it for a Lexus ES and no problems at all.
