  • Lexus vs Toyota Reliability - Can Anyone Beat Toyota?
    When we put Lexus versus Toyota in terms of reliability, it's a tough comparison to make. These are both excellent brands when it comes to producing reliable cars, and they are part of the same company. However, there are some differences when it comes to #Lexus #reliability and #toyota reliability, and I think in the end that some of the statistics you've read aren't what you'll experience with these vehicles.

      @@ECPP I'm so in love with my red 1995 Lexus SC400. I don't car if it costs extra extra to own her,because she is so worth it. A lot of people think it's a brand new car because not many people bought them back in the day and now with prices being affordable they are starting to appear on the streets. Plus owning my SC400 is still cheaper than a high maintenance girlfriend. I'll never give my car up.

    For the people who keep saying Toyota owns Lexus, as if there’s no difference. I’ve owned a Toyota for 4 years and two Lexus vehicles. One Lexus was totaled and the second I bought because I grew to love the vehicle. A Lexus handles completely different from a Toyota, I can assure you. The quality and materials are much more premium and solid than a Toyota. That’s if you care and appreciate those kinds of luxuries. I’ve grown an obsession with Lexus after owning two. Great quality, reliability, they hold their value best, and just an overall great investment. Compared to the investments I’ve seen other people put their money into. It’s like a heavy investment, with 0 headaches whether it will start up in the morning or not.

That was the year that I graduated high school so it's significant to me. If I could add just factory upgrade to my 1995 SC400 it'd be the OBD2 port. I was disappointed that Lexus still used the OBD1 in 1995. That really doesn't make a difference to me because I absolutely love my car. I still get compliments all the time about my baby. Lexus Toyota both very reliable. The Toyota may take the crown because the Lexus gets the more advance technology. Luxury is always expensive when time to repair.

    Having owned over 7 Toyotas and 6 Lexuses, I would say both are very reliable. Where they differ is the build quality. Lexus vehicles feel a lot more solid and have much better sound insulation. Get in a Toyota 4 runner and a Lexus GX460 and you’ll see what I mean. The 4Runner seems like a toy in comparison. Both are good cars , however you are probably biased toward to Lexus since you were at a Lexus dealership, you probably work for them. To me the Lexus isn’t worth paying an extra $10,000-$15,000 more than the Toyota. Another thing I noticed in my 25 years of buying Toyota’s, their used car value is more than the Lexus. A used Lexus 6 -8 year old is like a Cadillac. The value drops on $40,000. Those premium HiTech are nice, but VERY EXPENSIVE to have repaired or when you go to trade one or buy one on a used lot. In the long run you’re $$$$$$$ in your pocket buying Toyota. Lexus like Cadillac, “a Status Symbol.”

    As an SC400 owner, let me say thank you for including my car in this video. I will add, for the curious, that the SC400/SC300/Soarer cars are 90% overlapped with the Supra, from a mechanical point of view. I have Supra TT coilovers on mine, and I can tell you that it handles like a dream. Anything you can do to a Supra, you can do to the SC; all the parts bolt right on....because it's the same car. Haha.

      @ECPP  5 лет назад

      100 percent. Hi from Edmonton. I personally try to avoid anything with alcohol in it because it tends to separate water and create pockets of moisture especially if stored or driven infrequently. Alcohol tends to corrode certain parts of the fuel system as well. Bottom line, it will get you down the road and if you have to then go ahead, but I would go premium everyday, all day just for that reason. Cheers

    The mention of Camry Transmissions "not knowing what to do" is a common issue with all cars that have more than four gears and an overdrive. The six, seven, eight and more gears in transmissions now a days, require a second for the computer to determine what gear the driver is asking for. It seems like a long time for a computer but it's not considering what's involved. The problem is the driver. Quick jabs at the accelerator pedal confuse the computer. Take a moment longer after getting off the brake pedal and also press the accelerator lightly. It's a matter of slowing down the driver's actions. Once familiar with the occurrence your mind will train you not to cause the problem. It's just a matter of getting used to the car.

    I had a Camry before and the muffler went out after warranty period. I the "Lexus" muffler is slightly cost more that the Toyota muffler. I ask the shop what is the difference, the shop told me that the Toyota muffler has 30k miles warranty and the Lexus muffler has life time warranty. This sounds like Toyota cars use cheaper parts where ever they can while Lexus cars use proper parts.

    I drive Lexus cars but considering these statistics...
    These are the percentage of cars that are still on the road after 200k miles.
    Toyota Sequoia=7.5 percent
    Four Runner=3.9 percent
    Highlander=3.1 percent
    Avalon=2.5 percent
    Lexus does not make any of the list of cars still on the road after 200k miles. I blame the more expensive repairs, wrecks and parting out instead of repairing, and the fact that many Lexus owners are old and dont even take the mileage up that high.
    The Sequoia is one of the best SUVs made.
    Personally I have new body RX 350 and new body is 350 but if I could trade for a fully loaded Sequoia and Fully loaded Avalon I probably would. I dont trust lexus as much after the new spindle grill came out. Cars went down hill from there unless you fork out 100k and even then there are many other cars in that price range. Looking back I was sold on the fact my other Lexus cars are still on the road after 300k miles and I sold them after 15 years and 200k to 300k miles for a quarter of what I bought them for.

    Why is he comparing one company with itself? Lexus is made by Toyota, it's only named Lexus because of the marketing schemes that go into this kind of stuff. For example, if Toyota made luxury cars and named them "toyotas" , then there would be less sale because of the society we live in, we tend to make fun of people who own hondas and Toyota or Nissan's. People are like "oh that's just a Toyota" so that's why Toyota said fine we'll make a luxury division and name it something else to increase sales (same goes for hyuandai/genesis, honda/Acura, nissan/Infiniti, Volkswagen/audi/Lamborghini, Bugatti. Ford/lincoln, Etc.) . So really at the end of the day. A Lexus is a "dressed up Toyota" like he said in the video. "But still made by the same company. And yes I realize it's a "different brand" but like I said at the end of the day, it's made by toyota.

    Here’s some first hand data for your consideration: I once bought a 1998 Toyota Camry 3.0 V6 - 495,000kms on the odo. I added a great music system with amps and all that. Drove her around for another 100,000kms - no sweat - ice cold a/c, predictable performance and butter smooth to drive. Wouldn’t go faster than 140km/hr, but who cared 😄 Now, my most recent car is a 2004 Lexus RX330 with 205,000kms on its odo. Typical known Lexus issues - a rear quarter window was missing its outer trim, the sunglass holder wouldn’t snap shut and after 17 years, the luxury Mark Levinson audio system with a CD changer and a cassette tape player (!?) was in bad shape. Got parts off eBay, replaced the outer window trim and the sunglass holder assembly myself. Got the factory door speakers professionally replaced with Alpine aftermarket speakers, then cleaned the cassette player head with isopropyl alcohol on an earbud, got a Au$10 cassette tape line-in adapter from JB Hi Fi and hooked up my iPhone to play Spotify via the 2004 cassette tape player. The sound quality blew my friends outta the water 😄. I’m amazed that it sounds so thumping good! The pre-iPhone era touch screen is brilliant by any standards. Drives like a dream too. Anyone got any such stories about a Cadillac, a Mercedes, a BMW a Volvo or an Audi? I’d doubt it - you’d be lucky if the a/c worked.

      For example, the hood on a Lexus is pretty much sealed so the engine compartment and all the components do not get covered in dirt. The door panels have double weatherstripping do the door jams stay clean. They are just built better.

They are hand picked from the Toyota side of the house; their best of the best. You can't just be Joe Lunchbucket Toyota factory worker and get to build Lexus'. No, it's HIGHLY competitive and considered quite the status symbol to be chosen to work with the Lexus brand. High pressure oil lines bursting, transmissions not knowing what to do, touch screen failures and so on. I think I’ll stay with my 2008 Corolla.

    Seeing as Lexus is owned by Toyota, seems like there is your answer. Lexus is basically an up market Toyota! Go figure.

    Have a 2012 ct 200h that burns oil. Only has 118,000 miles. But its one of the best daily drivers you can have. 45 mpg. I sometimes forget to check the oil, which is horrible, but has never left me stranded.
