I drove GMs, I drove Chryslers, I drove Nissans. I now drive a Lexus, and will never drive anything else ever again!
genebigs I went from a Mini Cooper S to a Range Rover Evoque, then to a Lexus ES and I literally cried, I never thought a car would go over a year without any issues whatsoever, I have 195,000 miles on my Lexus and I aint letting go of it anytime soon.
you must be old
Same here. The maintenance hamster wheel was so tiring and stressful.
Japanese can't tolerate bad quality
Lexus ..the darling of the automotive industry
Nissan, Mitsubishi and Mazda will disagree with you....Well, One is now owned by the French, the other is assembled in Mexico, and idk what's wrong with Mitsubishi but they are crap.
@@sharpemang Mitsubishi is now part of the Renault Nissan Group
@@christophernicolasviertel8967 so they are now shit. Now Mazda should join and call it unreliability alliance
sharpemang Nissan used to make a hell of a car back when they used the Datsun platforms. I’ve got an old ‘99 Pathfinder. Never had a single issue with it. Ever. Not one. Then they were absorbed by Renault in ‘01 and became the French shitboxes we now know as modern Nissan. So they’re really not Japanese cars anymore lol.
@@joshualaw375 Yeah I used to have a 1997 Maxima and that thing ran like a clock. I really hope with Carlos gone that they'll take their company back.
You didn’t mention that the Japanese have a mindset that focuses on excellence, quality and durability, out of respect for the customer, and nature. Unlike Americans, who promote a throw away culture.
True. They have a high sense of honor for the work well done. Not saying that US workers are worse. Its different culture.
America is slowly growing out of the throw-it-away, workers-versus-bosses culture.
Phillip Evans And that is exactly what Scotty Kilmer points out in one video , the difference between the Japanese and the American culture .
Phillip Evans 100% agreed
You mean short term profit country vs long term profit country. THe fact in USA you build something that cost 25 cents to make and charge 10$ for it. Are car that cost 15k to build charge 120k$
The fact that lexus put EVERY Engine on a test bench is really impresive wow just incredible

That reliability make Lexus a great used car option.

Lexus is more than just a car brand, it's Japanese art.
@R A I'm sure you like going to the mechanics
@R A No need to swear at me pal, I'm sure you've had a fair share of bad experiences with Japanese cars. Sorry for the bad luck. I'm not sure what brands of cars you're into but the fact the Americans had to adopt the Japanese car manufacturing process to stay alive today replaces all arguments we'll ever have.
@R A I noticed you mentioned japanese cars but which ones exactly? We are talking about Toyota/Lexus which MILLIONS have already testified about. I owned a 1985 Camry in 2000. Drove like new. I owned an 89 Honda and maxima. Didn't last long. Owned a 2004 solara at 45,000 miles. Drove it till 190,000 miles, few repairs. Traded it for a lexus 2011 GS 350. Runs like a dream at 85,000 miles.
@R A record amount of recalls? Man, you better do your research. That award goes to American cars. There was only one year there was a big recall because of some break and pedal issue but Toyota will not hesitate to recall their cars at the slightest hint of a malfunction. That's how thorough they are. They'd rather spend millions to replace those parts free than soil their reputation.
Actually Mazda is Japanese art. That front grill on the Lexus is just plain ugly.
Lexus is really the ak47 of the car world.

One of the things I've noticed is that Toyota/Lexus is usually late to the game when it comes to technological advances, such as wireless charging for phones, safety features etc. But it's because Toyota/Lexus monitor just how these effect consumers and what potential issues they may cause. After seeing them in action, a year or two later they incorporate them in their products after having smoothed out the kinks they notice that come with them.
My Grandpa's previous gen LX was the first vehicle I have ever seen with blind spot detectors and front and rear collision detection. My 06 is350 has ventilated seats.. They're pretty on par or ahead of the game with alot of features. Nevermind my 350 is luxurious while still being a great sleeper as I've hit 0-60 in 4.7 seconds stock.
And yet 2019, they’re the only ones to my knowledge in quality cars that have dash cams
When it comes to safety they are generally first, for Infotainment and tech(cabin color changing, who needs this!?), they are dead last. I don’t even think their flagship 2019 have CarPlay or Androidauto.
Yess agree, a tech that way ahead of its time actually are prone to failure
They didn't used to be late to the game. They had touch screens in the 2000's. The is350 when it first came out had almost as much power as the outgoing m3. The isf that followed shortly after had similar power to the new v8 m3. Toyota popularized hybrids(insight was first, prius was the sales leader). They used to make more power and get better gas mileage, and be faster to 60. Then something happened in 2010 or so, and they just stopped pushing the envelope. Now they are late to everything. Heck even if you pay for the luxury trim in the rx450h, you don't get massage seats. They just got android audo/carplay. At least they are still better put together than the american cars, and don't start throwing fits like the german ones.
Maybe bmw need stop using so much plastic parts
true
Just use the same fuel/water pumps, gaskets, water hoses, thermostats etc as Lexus
Yes I agree to many plastic parts
I own a BMW and I'm not happy
The plastic parts that BMW uses has nothing to do with their unreliability; it is more the electrical components that fail because of low quality although they are paying lots for them, and obviously the QC Tests are not rigorous enough. If you look at how times their components failed in the Supra development you'll understand how poor BMW standards are. This is not exclusive to BMW, it seems to be a German thing as M Benz and Audi have similar issues. However, you cannot fault the German Manufacturers on visuals, they make rather beautiful vehicles, something Toyota would do well in following. Plus the Germans have the right combination of Turbo and 4WD which makes the vehicles fun to drive. Toyota does that too, but only for their domestic market and gives the rest of the World the "Bread and Butter " products which tend to border on boring.
Lexus been no.1 for almost 9 Years straight reliable car company in the world 🙌
A lot has to with the unlimited funding they get from Toyota. And the mechanics they hire, have to had worked for Toyota for over 10 years with no mistakes. Lexus has some huge standards. And it shows with their cars.
@R A okay since I am a fan boy. Let me list the Lexus I own. My first Lexus was a 96 GS300 then I went to a 2001 iS300 now I have a 2013 GS350 F Sport. Next is a 2017 GS-F. I am probably old enough to be your father little boy maybe I can teach a lot about Lexus learn something child 😂😂😂😂
Yeah Lexus Is with with out a doubt top 5 most reliable car companies. No question about it
Im pretty sure I recently read somewhere that Honda is the most reliable company in the world.
@R A I am curious as to what common problems newer Lexus vehicles exhibit.
When it comes to value for the money Lexus will always rank above bmw, these vehicles will get to 100k miles and still has all its original parts functioning, bmw will piss the bed at any given moment.
I so wish it weren't true, but here we are living in the real world.
I sense a bitter bmw owner or previous owner? Don’t worry man, right there with ya
Apex Animal bmw vehicles are definitely for people that are enthusiasts, I wrench my own bmw and I wrench my Lexus as well, and this is why am speaking the truth that bmw could be better, because they have a better engine, but the plastic is used to keep us spending, which is why I’ve been seeking out better quality aftermarket parts, anyone that comes up with the idea of selling better materials for bmw parts will be super rich, am talking about better thermostat, better hoses cables, and a metal water pump, parts that would Give them longer intervals between service, these vehicles are not holding up well in wintry climate.
Mcgyver B yeah man I been trying and trying with my e36, suspensions been overhauled, has upgrades like poly bushings and eibach sways, to make a long story short it’s been a huge journey just getting it decent looking and running and now I got an oil pan gasket, valve cover gasket and oil filter housing gasket leaking, 2 bad ball joints and my Zke module and window motor are bad so no windows or locks work atm. And I only have time to do the ball joints and the valve cover and oil filter housing, I gotta drive to another state and it’s my only car 😭 gonna have to hope for the best and check oil levels constantly, and don’t get me started on the outer door handle
Apex Animal 😲wow man this is exactly the nightmare that happens when they get up in age, the whole damn vehicle starts falling apart, leaving the best running engine, and this is why it’s best not to go back ordering dealership parts because they are poor quality, seek out the better aftermarket parts, there’s a wide variety to choose from, this exactly why Lexus comes out on top with better value, because after 10 years these vehicles remain solid, they are Teflon through wintry climate, bmw the only thing good is the engine.
The quality of Lexus is superiour!!! No competition at all
Lexus, Toyota are Road 's Warriors
@Rob K. true they use the same 2GRFE block
Another secret is a lot of Lexus engines are built in Japan rather than here in the US
I think it doesn't matter, also US workers don't want to loose their jobs, the will practice the same techniques.
USA workers have no pride.
Jasper, no doubt. Toyota has no reason to invest in US plants to build their luxury brand because lets face it, luxury vehicles don't sell to the masses and dealerships make next to nothing selling new vehicles. As long as import/export costs stay stable, it's a win win for every auto country and the consumer carries on.
General global industry approach -Good manufacturing: build parts to within a very small margin of original design specs, with slight deviation between parts - this is why the same manufacturers part may not fit quite the same. Also explains why within the same model car some are great while some are lemons.
Lexus/Toyota approach (and other reputable made in Japan manufacturers)
Great manufacturing: also builds parts to within a very small margin of original design specs, BUT in addition keeps a near identical consistency between parts - meaning two things.
1. All assembled engines are within spec and almost identical in consistency, so lemons within a model line are rare.
2. When you replace a part it fits exactly and interacts with the rest of the original components in the same consistency as the original part.
Totally agree! Japanese built toyotas last soooo much longer.
Fun Fact: In order to work in a Lexus assembly line as a Takumi Master Craftsman you have to have spent a certain amount of time working at a Toyota assembly line first. Only after then, you qualify to work on a Lexus assembly line.
That's it! I'm buying a Lexus.
If you think about it. Lexus is the only brand that is loved by almost every American/German/Japanese car enthusiast

BMW- Big Money Waster. When BMW was working with Toyota, they were shocked at how far they went to make sure all the little parts worked together.
There's Lexus/Toyota and there's everybody else. If a ensemble worker finds a problem and stops the line he or she is celebrated, not chastised by management and co workers.
My 98 ls400 is currently sitting at 257k miles. And doesn't complain one bit when i floor it.
sucks you have to replace timing belt on those though
$700 every 60k is a small price to pay xD
@@geoff2877 its a big job..usually gaskets, seals and timing components must be replaced and the lexus parts are not cheap, then you have to also usually pay someone to do the work
60k is pretty early, more like 90k
I don't understand why it's rear wheel drive.
German brands have the "fault engineering team" where as Japanese brands have the "Quality assurance team", that's the difference. Purely opposite philosophy.
Don't forget that Benz usually engineers a lot of firsts, giving other German engineers to make it more complicated and Japanese to make it better 😂
When I brought my previous Audi/BMW to dealership, they were so busy, when I drove my current Lexus to their dealership, they were doing routine and light jobs.

So it's the actual fact that Toyota's have good longevity. It goes without saying here that in the past before the other automotive manufacturers improved their vehicles, that if you want to go outback, and that's the _real_ outback and return on a regular basis, you get yourself a Toyota troopy or Landcruiser. Down here if you don't see that many old town cars that are Toyota anymore then you really don't see any other brand either. Especially euro cars because they just don't last either. Lexus is reliable because it's spawned from Toyota...
Lexus IS a Toyota. Seriously there's nothing special other than the extra sound deadening material and different cabin materials. All the parts are Toyota.
@@johnclark7406 A luxury car is just high quality, luxurious materials + decorative woods, an expensive looking interior/exterior design, and a quiet cabin with a smooth ride. That last one can be substituted with a loud, fast engine with a harsh ride depending on your tastes. Might as well say that Lamborghini is nothing special, just a downsized Volkswagen with a big engine.
@@animerocks2468 No seriously...It wasn't all that long ago that the only difference between a Lexus in the US and the "Lexus" in Japan was that the one in Japan had a Toyota emblem.
@Maheshan Govender My point is that it wasn't all that long ago that the only difference between a Lexus in the US and the "Lexus" in Japan was that the one in Japan had a Toyota emblem. Audi and VW used to share more parts over a decade ago then they do now but ya it's a similar comparison.
@@johnclark7406 That extra sound deadening material and different cabin materials makes all of the difference to me since my main issue with Toyotas and Hondas is the cabin noise (actually doesn't bother me much, but my wife can't stand loud cars/is more sensitive to it). Also nice that lots of luxury car owners get rid of theirs at around 100k miles and, more or less, take care of them, usually at the dealer. I think that used Lexus are usually a great bargain for these reasons.

After a handful of years of working on Mercedes, I purchased my first Lexus 😊 I'm sure the reasons are self explanatory
Sounds like a plan. Is it fun to drive?
@@ECPP Compared to my previous car it's a huge upgrade, compared to a new C Class, only downside is it's not as quick. I mainly chose Lexus due to overwhelming videos similar to this one, and as I stated, working on Mercedes, I already know the types of issues that come after 40k miles 🤫 just depends on if the issues happen within warranty coverage or not, and I wasn't willing to take that risk, even though I'd save thousands of dollars working on it myself.

Won't be disappointed in reliability. Don't get me wrong Ive had 3 Ford's. A navigator and 2 BMWs. My first car was a 1990 ls400. I was 18 homeless and no money to take care of it. I drove it about 40-50k no oil change 230k miles. No brakes slamming it in park and parking break to stop. And the engine and transmission never gave me one CEL or issue. Beat that car to death. The Ford's and navigator we're good cars but little issues almost every other week sometime needed fixing. Like door handles switches window regulators. Except the Navigator that I had to switch the airbags to coils because the airsuspension was a POS at 70k miles. One BMW was a e39 sold it at 250k miles issues left and right but never left me stranded. And a 2011 328i that I bought to flip and it had issues up the ass I didn't wanna deal with so I sold it to break even. Now am on a 2012 IS250 bought it at 70k miles. It's at 80k nothing has popped up. No one problem with that car
@@MLProductions.1 i only really ever had 93-95 cadillac devilles wit 4.9 engines n a couple chevys. i wanna step in to something a lil newer, was thinking about a 2009 DTS but I hear nothing but horrible things about them Northstar engines. I looked into Mercedes-Benz and BMW but Lexus was a brand i never paid any attention to but as I did my research it seems the good outweigh the bad so im gonna go wit the LS430 just to get a feel for the brand.
@@CADILLACJames313 ls430 is a nice car a little old. Get a ls460 if you can afford it. Huge step up from a ls430. But they're super solid. And yeah I would skip out on a 09 DTS super outdated and the Northstar wasn't a good engine at all
@@MLProductions.1 The Ls460 or Ls500 is the one i wanna end up with by next spring but Getting the Ls 430 as a introductory car into the brand to test it out, seen a few decent ones for sale in my area around $3-4k
@@CADILLACJames313 yeah go for it you won't be disappointed and you won't loose money if you sell within a year or 2
Bought a 4 year old second hand lexus rx300 and kept if for 14 years (car is now 18 years old). Only had one issue - lambda/oxygen sensor - cost about 300 dollars to fix. Brilliant car. Sold it this year and bought an rx450h.
You are a great explainer, thanks!
Thanks a lot

subscribed! Great job explaining why Lexus is the way to go :)
Thanks for watching
Good review, appreciate the insight
Thanks
Outstanding information....Thanks for this ! By the way, I miss my '08 SC300, soooo bad
Not only are they very reliable, but I can do my own maintenance for a fraction of what the European cars costs. Just replaced the front brake pads on my ISF... literally 15 minutes of work and $45 for premium pads. Took me 30 minutes trying to get my floor jack under the car! The car is fast, responsive and so much fun to drive. It may lose a head to head race with some other high performance sedans, but I enjoy the MOST fun for the dollar out there! 60k miles and nothing but smiles. Most of my family has BMW, Mercedes and Volvo... huge maintenance costs. I have done plenty of work on their cars and will not own one of them.
Very interesting video. Good job!
Thanks for the feedback and for watching. Cheers !
Enjoyed the video! Great explanation of the correlation with HP/litre.

Great video buddy! I live in the UK 🇬🇧 and have just bought a Lexus RC300H coupe hybred ! The build quality is amazing and i absolutely love this car. Keep up the good work 👍
Dr. Deming was responsible for helping Toyota development! Dr. D’s philosophy maintained quality above anything American car makers ever dreamed off.
Dr deushbag?
Dr deushbag
It wasn't just about cars, he helped them with Quality control in general after we helped them rebuild after WW2.
God Damn David,
You are damn near as smart as me.
Deming actually went to the American car Manufacturing first with his philosophy: GM in particular.
At that time, GM rejected him and understandably so; They were literally on top of the world. why would they change, there was no one even remotely close to GM dominance in the auto industry.
until, the OPEC oil crisis of the 70's
Then things began to change.

I have a 2003 ES300 Lexus and I've never done any major repairs on this vehicle can't believe how durable these cars are
