Purchased an 08 is250 a few months ago because of Scotty. Best car I’ve ever owned. But you’re right, they really did get carried away with all the beauty covers . 😂
Agree with Scotty. Recently purchased a one owner 2008 Lexus LS460. It is a wonderful car. Smooth, powerful and quiet. I paid about 20% of the new stick price with 86k miles. 20% of the cost for a car that has 60-80% of the life of the car left. If you can find a well maintained and loved example, you very be very happy.
That’s the 2GRFE Engine that’s so bulletproof. This year I bought a 2011 Toyota Avalon that has that engine. Absolutely love it! If you want a Lexus for a Toyota price get an Avalon!
But did Scotty fix a Lada…? When I was young, dads fixed their Lada cars with no help from any video! Well, it was/is a shitty car but it had the benefit of being super simple. Lada engine was super inefficient, however, that translated into a very good amount of heat during winter 😅

For driving in the snow, put snow tires on all 4 corners. If you put them only on the front wheels of a front-wheel-drive car, the car becomes VERY tail-happy.
I drive different cars every single day. New and old. I can tell you that this ES is one of the best driving cars on the road still today. I drove one of these with 160k miles on it and it was LITERALLY the best riding car I've ever been in. Better than anything new as well. Nobody can build cars like lexus They are leaps and bounds better than Honda too IMO
My 2002 RX300 SUV has over 206,000 miles on it and still going strong. I am the original owner, garage kept, the black leather is perfect & the burl wood accents are so classy. The only thing I might do is replace the timing belt because it was replaced a long time ago at 76,000 miles by Lexus. The Check engine, trac off & vsc lights come on, but no one can find a problem. So we clear the codes & sometimes they come back. I hear this is common with the older Lexus & Toyota cars.
Ours too 🤠. I wish I'd gotten the picture of the dealer's face when I told him that the Carfax showed the oil had been changed every 5,000 mi by the Lexus dealership. He sold me a real cherry, and didn't even realize it
1:41 looks like it could use a motor mount one winter i only put snow tires on the front of my 86 subaru and was going 45 on highway 20 and did a 360 and bounced off the snow bank , if you are going farther than around town or country yes you do need 4 snow tires
Once I pay off my 19 Camry I’m definitely getting a used Lexus. I don’t regret getting my XSE but I wish I knew about Scotty sooner and got better advise on purchasing vehicles.
@@captinbeyond yup, I definitely plan on keeping the Camry long term. I was just pointing out that I could of got a used Lexus for half the cost I’m paying atm. But your most certainly right.
Is it 4 cylinders, if so ditch them. Not the most reliable engine compared to the Honda 4 cylinders. If you got the 6 cylinders one, keep it for as long as you can.
I have an older Toyota Camry XLE V6 so its kind close to an older luxury Lexus. Leather, nav, sunroof, push to start, aux port. What kept me from getting a Lexus ES and an Acura TL around the same year was that they required premium gas. With gas prices so high these days, glad I went with the Camry that doesn't require premium fuel.
@@schweinfurtraver What year is your ES350? And did you look at the gas cap as well? This has been a hotly debated topic. Toyota 3.5 says regular and Lexus says premium and nobody has the answer as to why this is as it is EXACTLY the same engine.
@@glennnichols4220 If you go to your Lexus Dealer and request them to show you in writing they will: in 2012 Lexus changed the requirement for premium fuel in the Lexus models with the 2GRFE engine (ES350/RX350) to regular- Lexus Models such as the GS350 or IS350 have a 2GRFSE engine (direct and port fuel injection) those engines remain a requirement for premium fuel- but again, from 2012 on (the latest ES/RX 350's with the new 2GRFKS engine) which has replaced the 2GRFE- I'm not sure on fuel recommendation- I don't own one so not my concern- but Lexus models with the 2GRFE after 2012 up to the time Toyota started installing the 2GRFKS engine, only require regular fuel- I've seen it in writing at the dealer- prior to 2012- yes, they recommended/required premium on the Lexus Models with the 2GRFE, but after no. Hope this helps-
You should have snow tires on all four even if it’s front wheel drive. That way all four have the same grip (traction), and if you loose traction it is a lot more difficult to control the rear than the front.
I have never driven in snow. If you drive slowly would having 4 tires different be an issue? We get black ice occasionally and driving slowly is the only way. I saw 5 cars all in a ditch from the same spot once. I drove slowly and still almost ended in that ditch.
Does Scotty mean snow tires or winter tires? I would not run snow or winter on front only. There could be breaking issues in an emergency stop. Thoughts?
Back in 2009 only luxury cars had back up cameras. The Toyota Corolla didn't get until 2014. Back up camera became law in 2018. Same goes for the push to start button, except that is not a required feature
Another expensive unnecessary government-mandated gadget for people too benighted to use a mirror, along with pressure sensors, for those too stupid to use a tire gauge.
We have bad weather here in pa in the winter. You are in much better shape with all wheel drive here. Lots of snow storms. Sometimes we get two feet in one night.
I got super lucky and bought a 2001 GS430 for a grand... best $1000 i ever spent!!! Its old and makes weird noises but the engine and transmission works like a charm...leather is worn out but its still comfy and the heat seats work...made in Japan!!!
@@hircine92h I have the money to buy almost whatever Lexus I want. I still drive an older model. Who needs more technology? The older ones are simpler and built better!
I bought an 2007 Es350 8 years ago with 125,000 kms for $17,000. It’s now at 325,000 kms and I just had to put rotors and pads on it. Other minor stuff like rear valve cover gasket, coils, plugs, o2 sensor and MAF sensor. The only major thing was the alternator, but it still got me home. That’s amazing after 8 years and 200,000 kms of trouble free driving. I plan on driving this for a lot longer.
I have 2004 Camry with 3.0 V6. Almost 18 years old with 90K miles and it runs so smoothly you can't even feel it. Toyota is the best car manufacturer on Earth bar none and has been for about 40 years now.
Careful with this engine oil sluggish or milking. They definitely great(2mz) but the 2grfe are the updated version with better reliability. I own 2 Toyota with the 2grfe, 09 Sienna and 09 Camry XLE.
5:08 SNOW TIRES... need to be put on all four wheels otherwise the back end of the car will slide out as you corner and when you stop hard. Good video 👍
Sergeant is right, Got to put snow tires on all four and if you have chains you got to put them on all four, Under very very snowy and icy conditions the back end will come around. Had brand new snow tires on my 2014 Ford fusion and regular somewhat worn all weather tires on the back. The back broke loose and I was able to save it & recover but it started me going white-haired.

Thank you! That Lexus IS a great car I have the Pebble beach edition and have 300. K on it. I discover one thing that can be prevented is that when you overfill the car the vehicle start to have different alerts and sometimes the transmission does not work well but when you fill the car with gas and don’t overfill all of these issues goes away. Thank you!! D
Scotty, I just got an 07 ES, the highest package (ultra luxury) at 130k miles, 1 owner, for $7k! It looks brand new! The original owner had the faulty water pump repaired at 60k! So major of the problem of that year was solved!
My wife was driving around in a then-new Chrysler minivan since 2015. It was a wonderful vehicle for us while the kids were young & growing up, but of course, reality set in, major repairs were around the corner. The mechanic recommended a different, more reliable vehicle. My father, who died in '99, knew Toyota products were super reliable. Scotty reinforced this understanding for me. The kids are older, and the wife wanted a "reliable vehicle". So, of course, I went out and got her a 2018 Lexus GX450. She LOVES ❤ it.
The 2007 - 20012 Lexus ES 350 as well as comparable year Toyota Camry models suffered from the infamous “melting Dash’ problem. Only certain models for certain years were covered by a dash replacement. I had a 2008 Toyota Camry XLe which got a free dash installed. My 2007 Lexus ES 350 has the same dash but it appears to be trouble free. Every few months I apply a UV protectant solution. And use a windshield cover to keep the suns rays off the dash.
I bought a 2016 RX with ALL upgrade options (including the Mark Levinson 15 speaker surround sound and pano sunroof). Love the ride and quietness and dependability. Scotties right .... the Japanese know how to build a quality luxury vehicle.
Another advantage of a hybrid car is the brakes last 3 times longer. That's a $1000 savings every few years. Toyota / Lexus hybrid batteries also last 15 years or longer.
Niece bought a 2004 ES 330 with 74 thousand miles for 3900 a few months ago. Faded paint and faded gps radio unit. Timing belt just changed for the sale. Runs like a dream.

2GR-FE engine will be one of the most overlooked, legendary engines of all time for years to come. Super smooth, super reliable, plenty of power. It's not as crazy as the 2JZ or the LS engines, but they have their place.
That explain why they kept updating this engine. I was thinking about finding the current Lexus with the 2gr engine, 2gr fks are something. Owell, already have both 2009 Sienna and 09 Camry XLE, both with the 2 gr-fe engine, lol.
After using them for 16 years they better be reliable :) Performance and gas mileage isn't anything that special compared to most other V6's though (say for example the J35 from Honda). The timing chain vs belt is nice though.
@@SuperMan-uj7dh you may have one with the timing chain. My 07 has a timing belt and it's still very quiet with 140k on it. That's the main benefit to the belt that Scotty doesn't mention.
I had never considered a Lexus until I was car shopping for 6 weeks. This past March, I saw a 2015 ES 350 on the dealer website. I drove out there at 10:00 pm on a Saturday night and there it was, sitting up on the platform as "the featured vehicle". I had to have it. There were other Ford sedans a couple years newer for a couple thousand more! I got in to the dealership early the following Monday and told them I wanted to drive it. Drove like a dream. That's how I picked up a 2015 with 73k miles and Premium package (plus many a la carte items from Luxury added on like heated/cooled seats, wood trim steering wheel and shift knob, Blind Spot Monitoring, and Parking Assist) for $17,899. That is the day I became a Lexus owner for life. I will never drive domestic again (especially not Chrysler, holy rust bucket oil burner of a van). 😊 They require more maintenance and they rust prematurely.
I bought a 2007 ES 2 years ago with 68,000 miles for 10,000$ on your recommendation! Uses Super unleaded gas is the only down side and has timing belt not chain.
@@Shauma_llama Some of the 1uz's go 180 thousand miles before throwing the belt, and if you aren't racing them legend has it that the valves and pistons will survive...that's not bad ,and to be honest it's not that hard to replace at home as long as you can produce enough torque to brake the cam bolt free.
@@Shauma_llama my 2000 Subaru Impreza is 372,000 km an still kicking. The most reliable car I ever have. 😍. But I'm not saying that timing chain isn't the way to go, I myself very surprised of the performance of my timing belt.
Yep, my buddy bought a used Camry 20yrs for a work car. At 200k miles he bought a used 1999 ES300 drove it for 10yrs. 2019 he bought a 2017 ES350. Still has the camry. He sold the 1999 ES to his son. Son didn't want to pay 1000 for it. Nothing was wrong with it. Garage kept and under a carport. He repo the Lexus from the son after 6 months and a friend gave him $1700. Oh don't feel bad for the grown son. He works for a major utility company here in St Louis, MO
Talk about old school, the modern wisdom says all 4 tires should be as similar as possible. That means similar tread wear, similar treads, similar production materials & similar speed & weight ratings. Snow tires on the front of a FWD (in snow) are great for getting going but do nothing for stopping the rear from sliding ahead of you in stops or turns. Can be fun but hardly recommended for the safety of the daily driver.
Sometimes I watch other videos and they remind me of what you tell people. I saw one today of a mechanic. He was working on a VW. He said, "ohhhh. It's got the broken lights on. This is actually the normal state for a Volkswagen. Everything is fine here" 🤣
I have have had a 2010 Es 350 for a little over 1 1/2 year runs like dream changes the oil twice and a headlamp pulp and with a 103, 000 miles. Excellent car

Keep a look out on the carbon build up for that engine
Downside of the IS250's is the carbon buildup. Unlike the IS350's they don't have dual fuel injection (port and direct).
I'd stay away from the IS250 with the direct injection only engine. It has a definite carbon buildup problem.
So it's better to buy an is350 than the is 250 right ?
Agree with Scotty. Recently purchased a one owner 2008 Lexus LS460. It is a wonderful car. Smooth, powerful and quiet.

You should have snow tires on all four even if it’s front wheel drive. That way all four have the same grip (traction), and if you loose traction it is a lot more difficult to control the rear than the front.
Good call. I was taught that you should always match your tires.
