Five Reasons You'll Regret Not Buying The Lexus LC500

- In today's video we look at the Lexus LC500. On sale now since 2016, the car was mildly tweaked in 2020 but remains largely the same as it ever was. One of the most desirable cars in the Lexus lineup, yet still a rare sight on Britain's roads - so I look at a few reasons why you should consider this instead of a 911.

I can't stop watching videos of this car, the design is stunning and the interior (especially in tan) is nicer than most living rooms and so far more special than any German competitor. I've long had my eye on the LC as my attainable dream car, it's a shame how few are seen on the roads but every time I do I can't stop looking
I too want one Glenn.
Can't wait for next year to come. I will put down €20 000 in Jan 2023.
I intend to keep if for 7 years following that.
the fact that it is so rare makes it all the more special, im quite tired of seeing so many caymans and 911s and astons on the road
I regard this as a thing of great beauty. I want one.
This is one of the very few cars I would like in silver, it just looks like a spaceship.
Chris Roberts never thought of that but have to agree with you.
I'll likely never let mine go 😍

I just bought a 2018 earlier today. My very first Lexus. I have owned just about everything else from an S 63 to a Dodge Viper and a Ferrari.
I had been looking for the perfect Porsche. Not finding that at a reasonable price I stumbled across one of the videos for this car and started considering it.
It is absolutely gorgeous and pictures don’t do it justice. The interior is outstanding. And that engine note wow.
If you don’t mind how much did you get for ? I am in the market for one
@@Cp9Doomsday I saw some used 2018’s going for 55-65k , great deal

This car is a beauty. It's definitely for people who understand that there's more to cars than horsepower and acceleration. The touch, feel, design and audible experience is so much more important IMO and you can tell that the engineers and designers really knew what they were doing. It has such an air of finesse. Driving this around would be the very definition of a grand tour. Just about as much fun as you can have with your clothes on.
It looks amazing, but they need to make the car at least 300 pounds lighter. Thing weighs like 4300 pounds
@@driftracerr34thats less than an sti😂

I remember seeing one of these for the first time in a Lexus dealership and just being stopped in my tracks by its looks. They are stunning pieces of design.
I second that. I walked up to it, opened the door to look at the precious tan interior design. By the time I closed the door I had forgotten what I went to the dealership for.
Stunning from every angle.
What makes it even more impressive to me, the original 2012 LF-CC concept...it is from 2012! Looking at this car I doubt that the last decade had really happened, seriously! 😅
Same!

I am amazed you wouldn't have known JayEmm before, as an apparent car enthusiast. I have been a fan for years. His channel (similar to "Harry's garage") just provides the most relevant information about any car it covers, and at the same time is entertaining almost every time!
Thanks Nick
His videos never came across my recommend or suggested viewing on youtube, until now. Sorry to disappoint you on my late discovery of this guy's channel.
@@Funexpected There is some misunderstanding here: You didn't disappoint me! I was disappointed FOR you, not having discovered this channel earlier. Now I am happy you have. :) Try out Harry's garage as well, if you love cars!

Absolute thing of beauty, a NA V8 in todays climate is a wonderful but rare thing. 10 years warranty from a car that isn't likely to go wrong anyway is a bonus. Has V6 hybrid available if the V8 isn't to your fancy. As a Lexi enthusiast, lovely to see repeated exposure on your channel.
Nothing beats the pull of a large displacement NA engine
@@snownd675 Except the pull of a large displacement turbocharged engine.
I may be in a minority, but my LC500 was one of the worst cars I’ve owned and Lexus, the very worst dealership. The car had various issues, was poorly prepped, needed 4 new tyres (odd for a 5000 mile car), had the usual fuel filler problems and had paint issues. These are a physically beautiful car with what seems strong build quality, but they drive terribly, especially the hybrid where the cvt and 4 speed auto boxes constantly hunt for gears, leaving you suddenly revving the nuts off the car for no apparent reason. They are also extremely heavy and ponderous with the worst multi-media of any car on the market, unless you get a new one with Apple / Android. Finally, don’t be fooled by the Mark Levinson hi-fi, it’s utterly abysmal.
@@fabianhenrich4697 love that delay huh🥹

I own a 2022 black on black with performance option ! I love it and just love it !! Thank you for such a professional review and honesty . You are honest and tell everyone it is was not designed to be a drag car but one with looks and passion when driving . Thank you and thank you. FYI the horsepower is actually 472 HP .
I picked my LC500 after driving the M5, M5 comp, E63, 911, and thought about an NSX but I wanted a real engine because our gov's are pulling them from us. I ordered it in Oct last year and picked it up May 13th. Wow what a wait. Im in deep love w/ it.
I'm not usually a Lexus fan but I've always loved this car. So much style and you can tell a huge committee of people didn't design this car.
mine is my very first Lexus
I can say, having been behind the wheel during filming, it's a great car with a different personality to match just about every driving mood via the driving modes. Loved spending time behind the wheel of the LC500. Thanks James!
I saw one of these back in 2019 before I even knew it existed. I was walking along and it was in traffic in a deep dark metallic blue. I could not stop staring at it, it is absolutely beautiful in person.
It could have been Structural Blue. Look it up on RUclips.
In the UK it's called Deep Blue metallic & is the only one I've seen on the road in High Barnet a few weeks ago other than the Sonic Silver I saw in the Lexus Edgware showroom where I was told they are made to order. It's the car I would like to drive across Europe in instead of my NX 300h but it's not the type of car the Mayor of London Sadiq Khan wants on his self imposed grid locked, pot holed streets & for which he will charge you £15 a day "Congestion Charge" to drive on them on top of the government's £510 a year road tax. That's if you can get one. I was told there's about a 8/10 months waiting time due to the semiconductor shortage,
Dream car and a bucket list car. 10/10
I said it before and I will say it again. This is one of the best new cars money can buy. Even at 100k priced it still FEELS like is more expensive then 100k.
it feels more expensive because it’s actually build with quality in mind. this interior will remain classy and gorgeous years later while every other competitor will have more cracks in the interior than an abandoned building. this thing is pure quality in mind
I love mine, it’s the only car I’ve ever had that I have zero intention of ever selling or trading.
Hey James, I can't really overstate how much I have come to enjoy your videos. Keep it up!
That's the plan!
@@JayEmmOnCars I second this notion! I am genuinely impressed by the level of professionalism in your journalistic delivery. Reminiscent of old top gear, and a very welcome change from innumerable "WHATSS UP GUUYYSSS CHEKC OUT THIS MAAAD 5000HP CAR WHILE I SHOUT AT YOU THROUGH THE ENTIRE VIDEO!" channels. Keep it up!
Saw one in person earlier. No way is the LC500 not a collector's car. It's basically a rolling work of art.
I have the convertible in liquid platinum and it is an AMAZING car to drive. It is extremely comfortable and I always get compliments when someone sees it. If you can’t afford one, totally understandable, I am still amazed I have it, but take it for a test drive😀

I genuinely think if I was in the market for a luxury GT, I'd have this over anything else, every time I see one it drops my jaw and as an owner of multiple lexus cars, the ownership experience is fantastic.
Ive had mine for a year now and for the first time nothing else has turned my head all year!!
Your insights and the perspectives you give in your videos is just phenomenal - It is an absolute joy to watch someone with that level of knowledge vs other car journalist that merely parrot the spec sheets.
I have been fascinated by these since I think seeing your last review on it but definitely on that list of cars I'd look at if I somehow came into money. Great review, thanks again!
I ador this car, for being the only modern car I know of that looks like a an exotically styled concept car.
Agreed , imo looks better than its concept car wich is a rare thing to happen in the automotive world
a concept car was my first impression, too
Depends on your definition of modern but Toyota did this with the FJ cruiser as well where the finish product was almost identical to the concept.
I had the experience to driven one of these in the convertible form back in March and i can subscribe everything you said.the thing i liked the most was the ability this car has to never let you forget you´re driving a v8 ,the rumble is always there even on the softer modes you can hear the engine even at 3krpm and that its quite rare with this turbo generation cars.
The sunsets shots on this video are gorgeous and im glad you didnt skip the rev limiter banging feature on this masterpiece, ty
amazing
I just bought a LC 500 convertible and have had many great reactions. Had a Lambo chase me down to see what I was driving. Had a BMW guy beside himself walking around the car and then entering the dry cleaners I was inside and wanted to know all about the ride. I've had two guys wanting to race down the interstate.....sorry.....its not a race car. A week of ownership and its been great so far.
Tomorrow I get my NX and the process of finding a company car (with sensible BiK costs) took me to Toyota and Lexus. I also think Lexus cars are truly underrated, for ‘real world driving’. My private car is a 430bhp M140i and when I fancy a change, this LC will be on the shortlist to drive, especially after the amazing dealership experience from my local Lexus dealer. James you are 100% right on everything you have said today, but it took me 6 months of my own experience to actually believe you. Great video.
Great review, well posted. Love this guy and his thrill, for a great car. Me, never cared about cars. Now I do. One... Nicko NZ.
Great review! As an owner of a LC500 for 2 years now, I can say you really hit on many points of this magnificent & underrated car. As an avid car-guy, I'm really struggling to ponder it's future replacement. Cheers!
Hi, first of all, I love your videos James, please keep them coming!
Second, I wanted to comment on the dealership experience at Lexus, which often gets mentioned as one of the perks of Lexus ownership. I bought a brand new LC500 last year at my local dealership and it was one of the most gruesome experiences I could’ve imagined. The car was delivered with a bad paintwork which was noticed within an hour of ownership. Taking advice from my detailer and Lexus Owners Club forum, I have rejected the car. What followed was more than a month of intermittent lack of communication and playing for time to actively gaslighting me and my wife during interactions with the staff and some genuinely dodgy attempts to force us to accept the car. In the end I did end up with a new replacement car and I am indeed a extraordinarily happy with it. Regrettably, due to this experience I will never buy another Lexus as there is only one dealership in Northern Ireland. As it is, I have no regrets over getting the LC500 but I am already concerned what long term servicing is gonna look like.
my first experience with my lc was a C- at best than the next visit I sat on the service drive for an oil change and no one came I just left after 30 mind.... but after speaking with the Service director and getting a new advisor all has been great....I think part of the problem is there are so many other lexus models you feel like a number in the machine instead of the owner of a brands halo car.
The LC500 is my favorite car in the current Lexus lineup. Very original look, naturally aspirated V8 and an outstanding build in Japan quality and reliability.
Very strong resale value for that matter. Thoroughly special car.
Great review. I agree with you (and disagree with 95% of reviewers) the infotainment is fine one you have used the car for more than a quick drive.
They have a real presence on the road and are rare. Future classic.
I love these sooooo much! Just stunning! Great review as always!
I’ve known the LC500 from the beginning but have just acquired my own a month ago. I’ve been following you for years and agree with every word of your review. I’ve owned some 50 cars in my life and this one is right up there in my top 3. I love it and everything about it. I also echo your comments about Lexus dealers - and this is my 9th Lexus so I know the brand well. Thanks for another interesting and informative review.
Be interesting to know your top 3 for comparison sake

I valeted some of the nicest cars in Scottsdale, Arizona which is know for its wealth. The interior in the LC500 was amazing. The door handle is a machined work of art. It sounds amazing at idle, not too loud but the perfect grunt. I think they sound better than Aston’s

This is one of your best reviews - makes me want to go out and look for one of these!
ooo I'm early, what a beautiful looking and sounding car, Im sure it would drive beautiful too but its way out of my budget!
I hesitated between few models including the 911. Took delivery last Friday of a LC500H 2018. Loves it. No regrets.
One of the most beautiful cars from the last two decades. Many journalist missed the point of this car.
I think this will be a future classic.
I own a Lexus GS 450h f sport and the confidence it gives me over my previous lemon engine Audi 2.0tfsi mk7 is amazing.
I am fortunate to drive a 2021 LC-500 in white with caramel interior (and amazing rear steering). It’s the best car I’ve ever driven and I just got 35mpg for the last 250 mile drive I took which felt like I was riding on a fast pillow! Great review! (edit for grammar)
Best of both worlds a V8 and it’s fuel economical ❤🔥their truly are miraculous on this planet
I’ve seen others getting 32 miles per gallon or just a touch lower
Fantastic....one of the best car reviews ever....you said and presented everything differently as the most of car reviewers ...excellent job....passionate and technical....this car is only for special people who enjoy their lifes and do not show ego....not many of us.....that is why it doesn't sell well....
I know we are a year on from this video but thanks James. You may have cost me more money than I’ve ever spent on a car but after a test drive yesterday I couldn’t wait to sign on the dotted line. My take away was quality, the car, the people in the dealership. For me it’s a proper old school GT car with a naughty side when required.
This is on my list for sure. All the performance AND reliability. Love this thing
Awesome car. Really nice to see quality of life improvement like the android auto and carplay. Very nice review. Fantastic production. Keep up the good work.
Thanks for this type of review, the first half being review style for exterior then interior, love knowing more about cars in static position then the drive section. Great stats/review.
Beautifully filmed and INTERESTING! Great stuff
I remember the poster for this car in yellow. I was shocked at how incredible the style was. It looks absolutely beautiful. It's rare to see the overall lines of a modern car look spot on.
Great honest review … this Lexus Lc 500 side profile has so much resemblance to the LFA…. And I remember TopGear first impression they slated it…. How their opinions changed …..I’ve never been a fan of black interiors but their tan interior on this car IS sensational….. gets my vote 👍
Wow, what a review! You really put a lot of thought into your review. Such a pleasure to watch, and listen to, your review. Thank you.
Aside from your videos always being exquisitely insightful, it's the little stuff like the satisfying "Tokyo / Talladega" wordplay that puts your channel above the rest for me.
Great review and video. As the owner of an 09 jag xkr I understand the “it’s enough” mind set. For me and my budget the jag feels special and delivers a driving experience that is satisfying. If my budget allowed, I would buy one of these Lexus and enjoy it for 20 years when it will be a stunning classic. And I believe it’s safe to say, worth as much then as now.
YES 🙌
Well said sir totally agree 👍
Saw one of these in a hotel car park last summer. I couldn't stop looking at it. It's a stunning piece of design. It also has arguably the best looking interior of any car on sale today.
The interior is incredible way more then it’s 100k price tag says I believe this car is underpriced
Great review. I wish other auto related content creators thought as you do, considering the memorable aspects, enjoyment, visceral things like the sound and goal of the car,
placing these in proper perspective. This may be the car to buy if for no other reason than it becoming a de facto rare or discontinued paradigm: n/a v8 rwd gt. It’d be fun for you to someday compare the e92m3 with this. I see them as somewhat similar in their objective.
I enjoy all of your videos! This one I thought was particularly good! You dare to spek your mind, don't follow thae masses, and that's what is so good about your channel! I would LOVE an LC 500, but unfortunately with the cst of road tax and fuel in Ireland, it will always be a dream!!
Beautiful thing! And +1 on the dealer network. I bought my 8 year old Lexus second hand but when I rock up at the dealer for service I’m treated like I’ve just bought a brand new LC500.
It gets better than just the warranty with every service. If you’re concerned about the battery on an older hybrid the service includes a check which guarantees the battery too - up until 15 years old.
Amazing car. Love from antwerp belgium Jay 😎
I can't tell you how much I love the Talladega reference since I'm about an hour from the race track!!!! Great review as usual.
Enjoyed this video James, nice work 👌
The lexus 5.0 v8 cars are criminally under rated. I dream of owning an isf, rcf, gsf or lc500 some day because they're phenomenal cars.
A black one was at the lights opposite me recently...it looked so cutting edge and modern, I'd like one.
Fantastic review. Loved the shot at the 14 minute mark ☀️
This is a really good review, James. Your knowledge, and the way you dispense it, is flawless. Good pacing, long takes, and great delivery make all your videos a joy to watch. One of the best cars I've ever owned was the LS400 (I also went to its launch when I worked for Car Australia). It was so much better to drive than Benzes, Jags and BMWs of that era. And it was bulletproof - even after clocking up 400,000 km. I'd love to find an original one in mint condition. But if I don't, the LC500 might have to do! I've sat in a few, and the interior and exterior styling, plus that engine, are enough - I don't even need to drive one to know I want one.
I wish they made that in some different trim levels... And called it the Soarer.
Since they revived the Supra, a Soarer in the range would make so much sense and they'd have no trouble shifting them if it was prices right. Especially in the Australian and US markets.
this car doesnt sell alot in europe cuz most people here simp for the germans , a different name wouldnt make a difference and this car is actually a bargain if you compare it to a 840i for example . Its a Lexus wich in our european markets has no value and it doesnt have 700hp and doesnt do 0-60 in 2 seconds plus this GT market isnt strong at all atm
@@sergiopereira9546 you're exactly right changing the name and lowering the price a bit wouldn't do much. The reason this car doesn't sell is because of the way it's perceived not it's name.
Cool luxury sports coupe that id recommend for those who want reliability, great sounds and concept like styling. Should be a fabulous second hand vehicle to deliver miles and miles of carefree ownership experience
Superb - very tempted. Great review J.
Great review, JayEmm. I have a Lexus RC F, same great engine, and would love to drive the LC500 one day, it's on my list. Keep up the good work on the videos. Thanks!
Love the LC5..def best car at 100k price point..I had the same experience at Lexus Dealership..They are top notch
Spot on review, such an under rated car..👍😎
I’ve watched a few of your videos and this is one of your best reviews. It’s a beautiful car and I hope their owners are enjoying the experience.
Great review James .... now I want one !
Dream car, well done Lexus. Great review
I'd be the oddball in the Hybrid version, the idea of being able to waft about it near total silence in Beautiful Japanese GT car is extremely appealing. I currently Have a Toyota hybrid so the idea of a V6 "performance" hybrid GT is sooooo me. In Black, with the Tan interior.
I'll join you. As a former GS450h owner, that drivetrain is a work of art. To quote my ex-lodger, who incidentally flex Sir Alex Ferguson and Lando Norris around for a living: "damn, that thing PULLS" - yes, it does 😆 Effective yes, fun, not so much...but I've done fun, I daily drive a Porsche now. I'm looking for a replacement and I've concluded that basically nobody other than Lexus, Porsche and Peugeot have ever actually made a car I want 😁
Thank you for another great video James.
Would you recommend the coupe or convertible model?
Great review mate!
I have absolutely no reason to keep mine (a hybrid) but when I see it on the drive I just think sod it and quietly tell myself there are no viable alternatives. Those that could be contenders will generate big maintenance bills whilst having questionable quality and reliability issues. Put honestly, this car is in a class of its own.
I would get the convertible for sure! Amazing design, Lexus quality and nice cruiser!
What an awesome review! Well done.
You are a great Auto journalist very detailed and honest I like your channel good job
I've read 40-50 reviews of this gorgeous car, and this review is the most balanced and fair I've seen. As a new owner of a red LC 500, with ochre interior, I can vouch for this being a very special car -- and a magnet for attention. Get one of these sweet-sounding V8s before new petrol cars are consigned to history.
In 30 years could well be a classic, large NA V8 will be a thing of the past then!
Years ago we bought a RX400h from a local dealer, we kept the car for about 6 years and completely loved it. The problem we has was at one of the services we were told one of the rear callipers has seized and needed replacing. I did not beleive this got the car back and inspected it my self. All that was needed was to clean and grease the pins that hold the pads in place, the caliper was not seized, My mother in law liked our Lexus and bought a GS450h (she has now had this for over 10 years and loves it). She had exactly the same experience with her local dealer approx 70 miiles from our dealer. She took the car to a local independent garage she had used before and guess what he just had to clean and grease the pins.
Love the cars but really don't trust the dealers.
We have the same (RX400h) that we bought new. At 120,000 miles, the pads needed replacing. The calipers were and are still working perfectly. We do live in an area where it never gets cold enough to snow, so corrosion from salted streets is never a problem.
Great review, thanks for giving us another option to consider, that V8 sounds great
"twist it, bop it"! my kids had one of those! love your channel, you have lovely taste in cars.
Brilliant GT car, and the sound it makes is sublime.
Was planning on trading my C7 Z06 for one of these last year. Obviously not as raw or as fast as the corvette, but was looking for something fun that would run forever and felt special. Sat down to make the deal happen and was completely disgusted with the sales manager and walked out. It was a MB dealer, not a Lexus.
As a 3x Lexus owner, I genuinely would consider buying a Lexus just because their dealerships are such a stress-free experience. On the other hand, I one turned up to a Merc dealer in a damaged Peugeot and was asked "are you sure you want to buy a Mercedes?" No- it was for my Dad, so he bought a new Audi instead and I bought a Porsche. Merc can sod right off, snobby bastards 😄
As a former 2-time Corvette owner and a current 17-year Lexus and multiple Mazda owner, I can assure you that Lexus, Toyota, and Mazda make far more reliable vehicles than does any American auto manufacturer.
Excellent car, excellent review. Maybe more shots of the car but your points and presentation are great.
Hi Jay. Another great video, thanks. What camera set up do you use for the exterior please? Especially the exhaust clips :-) Thanks, Steve.
Another great review. Thank you. Beautiful car, and always makes me turn my head when one woofles by. The one factor that was not touched on though is the image, however unfair it may be, that the car is considered by some to be a geriatric Porsche replacement driven by seniors. Having said that there are a couple of the old SC430’s in my area, Buckinghamshire, driven by “blue-rinsers”, but there is also a gorgeous electric blue, 22 plate, one owned and driven by a young 30’s exec type, up the road from, so maybe I am being unfair and that image is changing? Love your content and always click on it when I get a “bell”. Keep up the hardworking and diversity.
Yeah, it's unfair for sure that Lexus are seen as a "safe but boring" alternative, given they have produced some absolutely fantastic performance cars over the years - if in very small numbers. Even my humble and fairly common GS460 has an amazing N/A V8 in it - from factory it's shackled with a very quiet exhaust, but that's easy to fix, the transmission is a bit senile in anything other than manual mode, but other than that they are an absolute bargain if you want that N/A V8 feeling, and built so much better than anything you'll find out of Germany the same age.
I can see your point, but personally i never judge a car by it's image because it can be very misleading.
And this guy proves it, he was among many others who thought that this car is too boring and not exciting enough and only driven by seniors.
Until he drove one and everything changed................... .
During the testdrive he realized how biased he was all because the misleading image.
Here is the LC 500 review from the nice gentlemen and he is a Mercedes AMG GT-s owner.

Great review as ever, James!! ... I would love to have the Lexus LC!!👍🙂
A great and honest review. One of your best James. I'm glad you really appreciate this Lexus. This is my favourite brand and I still want a GS-F, like the one you reviewed a while ago. I think you should have bought that car instead of the Maserati you had but that's just my opinion. Well done Sir.
Can remember seeing these at my local Lexus garage (Newbridge) when new, very nice cars was good to look at while sitting in the traffic, they do seem very thin on numbers on the roads though.
Each dealership/region can only sell very limited amount. I know for example Lexus were only allowed to sell something like 3 a year in Northern Ireland.
I would never in my life buy a brand new car. But if I had the money this is the only one I would and keep it at least for 15 years, because its biggest selling points aren't something relative to the time we live in, like pure speed or technology, but something timeless like sound and looks so I think it will never be out of fashion.
and reliability
Jay, I appreciate your reviews, because those seems to be done from point of love to cars rather than a job. Keep it up.
Thanks Tommy, that's the plan
Brilliant video. Brilliant car! My next car for sure. I have no doubts about that! Thanks JayEmm 👍🏽
You're probably the happiest I've seen you whilst carrying out a review. A truly great road car should be judged entirely on 'smiles per miles' and this Lexus appears to be doing that in the bucket loads!
One of our clients has one of these I know he will be watching so HI KASRA! 😆 fantastic car and sounds phenomenal with looks to match. The interior is spectacular
Great review and the skull shirt is awesome 😎
I love how you give all cars the benefit of the doubt. Awesome review.
