      It's unfortunate in this country Jay. Being an island recieving lots of rain it's full of salt. And in the winter we have all the salt put onto the roads. Doesn't help with the bodywork, especially if you have a few chips.

      @@larryjimbob Pretty sure it's the salting of the roads in winter that does it - I live in New Zealand - even lived within a kilometer of the beach for 4 years - like the UK, we get a lot of rain too - have never had problems with rust since the 90's when most manufacturers started proper galvanization. I work on my own cars too, and even my 20 year old Toyota, you get underneath it, every single bolt is rust free. Only bit of rust on my 15 year old Lexus was a bit under the battery tray about the size of a coin which I presume has been caused by a leaking battery at some point. Funny thing is, even in the South Island here, they don't salt the road in winter - they manage with ploughs and grit - the grit is nasty stuff for paintwork and moving parts - but I still prefer it to salt.

      @@JayEmmOnCars mate i’ll see your 9k and raise you another 9800 And welcome to the wonderful world of Bentley ownership (in particular Bentley of Surrey great lads in all honesty ) so my GTC I was driving it like a 40 something who has the emotional age of a five year old and I floored the very heavy vehicle over the top of the a hill smashing past some degenerate in a c63 . I couldn’t resist it. The next day I heard from the rear of the vehicle a loud hissing noise it was quite peculiar , checked the tyres which were fine hissing continued went to the suspension setting where you can raise it up. Car wouldn’t move what I’d done going over the top of the hill at Mach 2.5 must have damaged the air suspension unit you’ve got a lot of Bentley though they don’t replace one they replace both they come as full units so just because the unit on the left have gone they also had to replace the entire unit . Now Bentley assistance is something else it really is something else firstly they recover the vehicle and they give me an Audi S6 as a courtesy car delivered to my holiday home in Wales recovered the Bentley from my holiday home in Wales and take the vehicle back to Bentley Surrey all good so far . As the vehicle was coming towards the end manufacture warranty they give the car a full health check ( thank God for warranty, I’m gonna say that one again thank God for warranty) and away they go the service manager asked could he just fix everything that was under warranty and my replies why not . that three weeks later got my GTC returned and the bill was eye watering. They had gone through every single part of the car which was under warranty that could be replaced. The air suspension unit alone was just under 6000
      Without labour . Some gold plated connectors in the engine new radiator they went they did everything that was under warranty cough, cough, nudge, nudge wink wink if you get my drift. 18800 pounds was the final bill I would’ve been heartbroken if that was not under warranty in fact I was buying aftermarket warranty. I like what you say about the Lexus that’s a nice car and I’m very tempted myself. My wife has Lexus RX nothing nothing nothing ever ever ever touchwood goes wrong, great channel mate

    I actually placed an order for an orange LC 500 after seeing your review for it and absolutely loving the colour! Unfortunately, they cancelled the 2023 MY, and orange was no longer an option. However, I'm happy with the 360 camera as a consolation on a red model.
    After travelling almost 10k miles in the last 8 months with lots of continental Europe driving, I can't imagine a better car for my needs.
    I want to get an F12 or an 812 eventually, but the only value add they have over LC is the 12 cylinder music and the Ferrari experience (which will be worth it, eventually).
    Otherwise, having sat in an 812 and a GTC4Lusso at the dealers, I left much more satisfied with the LC's interior. I remember the dealer telling me excitedly about the alcantara seats, and I said, "Oh nice! Just like my LC."
    I'm sure the owner's spec is partly to blame, but the interior was slightly below what I feel the LC gives.
    Another factor that makes the LC more reasonable for me is that one of the joys of these GTs is going on continental road trips, and with Lexus' engine tech, atkinson/otto cycle switching and cylinder deactivations, I can average 8.4l/100km over a 4000km trip (about 1600 of which is off-motorway). I get to rip through mountain roads and make some noise in town at 20l/100km when I want, but also go on long trips without feeling like I'm burning money (including worrying about depreciation).
    I remember an interview with whatever director was responsible for the LC and he talked about how it wasn't made with a spec sheet in mind, all the design choices Lexus made were considering overall ownership experience, both performance/sound/fun and reliability and daily-ability. I feel like all the choices they made match the things I value from my car.
    Edit to add: my profile photo is of my LC at the foot of Sustenpass, CH.

    • @texlad04
      @texlad04 5 месяцев назад +1

      I've increasingly turned to thinking...damn the spec sheet. The cars I like most may not win every battle, but being good as a whole and offering something that stands out still matters. If you're going to drop 100K USD or more on a car, I think it should offer something special. Style? Supreme comfort? Beautiful, well made interior? Something. I just had to replace my beloved sport edition LS Lexus and bit the bullet on step down commuter car. Turns out I really like the color combo, comfort (really great for my back over a long trip), and fuel economy on the ES I got. And now I can save up for my LC 500 in the next few years. But I also have the bug for the design of the Roma and should I get there financially in the foreseeable future, I'll probably buy one.

    • @ApothecaryTerry
      @ApothecaryTerry 5 месяцев назад +12

      Do love a Japanese V8. Also a bit of ball tickling.
      I had a GS450h, which had "nanoe" aircon which was apparently moisturising (to be fair, it seemed effective, my Porsche turned my hands into the atacama desert). It also had ventilated seats. That meant: it literally moisturised your arsehole while driving. That wasn't how they marketed it though, which always disappointed me.
      I presume the LC500 will have that too, so it probably is one of the closest things you can get to literal ball-tickling from a Japanese V8, since massage seats just get your back. Or, in the case of French cars, the massage seats are the best approximation of a child kicking your seat from behind, but based on how the French drive it's probably not surprising that the idea of "relaxation" isn't something they do well in cars, at least recently...

    Keep the F12, do the 100k miles. I'm sure if you sold it, you'd miss it way more than the 550 or 430 Scud. It's a very special (V12) Ferrari. Talking to a car dealer friend last week - As prices continue to tumble, I look at the likes of the Portafinos and even Romas hitting the £130k - £140k and start to get tempted. I said to my dealer friend its a real shame that good F12s are still £150k plus. He remarked.... the fact that F12 prices are holding when others are not is the very reason to buy an F12 and not the others. Keep the F12 it will always be a sort after car worth good money. I have to admit, even as an avid car fan... Strangely I've never wanted to own a Ferrari, for me part of the package does have to be build quality and reliability, two things that have to match the amazing sound and looks that a Ferrari undoubtedly can provide. I've often thought of Ferrari as for people that want heads to turn and be seen, with Porsche for people who want to drive yet not attract too much attention. But everybody has their own thoughts and that's the joy of life.

      Me too, I think that eventually, if I had the funds for one super car, I would buy the Porsche (but always dream of the GT4Lusso v12). Unless you have too much free time and passion to take care of them, or you have a collection of such cars and therefore someone (or more) to take care of the cars, it does not worth the effort.

The time I’ve saved NOT going to the garage has been priceless for me , apart from servicing of course. That is time I can spend with my family. They’re stupendously reliable, much more than the Porsches or BMWs I’ve had. Shocking the problems I had with those. Stupid problems that I had with seventies and eighties cars, I had with them. The amount of stress and lost time-who needs that??

Had the Lexus 3 years and got rid of it, Drivers door wind noise that could never be fixed only to be told by a service writer later that it was design flaw that was later corrected, Headlights that went bad and dealer wanted an arm and leg to fix etc.. So sorry I don't get the Lexus quality argument at all. My 599 GTB was bullet proof, had it 4 years put over 14,000 miles on her and she ran like a top. One new battery (not a Ferrari issue) and regular oil changes is all I dealt with. Oh and when I sold it I got more than I paid for it. The only lexus you can say that about is the LFA...
