Honda was basically intent on one upping the slightly lighter clubsport s with identical hp, which was the previous 'Ring record holder. So Honda threw a roll cage in the back, ditched the seats, the infotainment system/radio/speakers, & put barely road legal track tires on it. But the LC 500 is faster. When they got to more of straight line you could see it separating itself from the Type R. This race had more to do with the drivers than the cars themselves, in which case Chris Harris is a better driver than the guy in the LC. With that said, the Type R is still impressive for what it is.
All the idiots bashing the Type R in comments have never driven one. The CTR weighs around 3100 pounds, it handles better than every other sportscar under 40k... Hell my Type R handles leages better than my old S2000 did. If you want a better handling car than an R than your gonna have to buy a Porsche GT4, GT3 or Corvette ZR1 or Camaro ZL1 1LE all of those cars are way more expensive than a Type R. So for the price the Civic Type R is a track weapon, also it's 306hp is better than you think, the power delivery is immediate and it pulls throughout the entire rev range. And nobody try to say that a WRX STI handles better than a Type R... I own an STI as well and the STI DOES NOT handle as well as a Civic Type R.

The LC gets 471 hp @ 7100 rpm and the Type R gets 310 hp @ 6500 rpm. The track had few if no straightaways to get the full output for the LC hp. So the result of the video should be that the Type R is faster than the LC on this short and tight turns track. The track is better suited for the hot hatch Honda.
Spoiler alert: it wasnt a real race.
God i miss these reviews mixed with old top gear type of editing
Can someone explain me which technique he uses to drift a FWD ?
Handbrake probably
@@tayo1041 Might be, but the rear wheels appears to spin during that slowmo shot... So probably handbrake and crappy rear tires
You can drift an FWD if you are skilled. It's just very hard to sustain the angle.
Lift off oversteer. Its relatively easier to do especially with longer wheelbase fwd like these civic.
I believe it’s called to “Holy Foot of Harris”, but I might be wrong
I loved the entrance of 'the Stig's Ninja cousin'!
Me too except for his attack vocals. Ninjas aren't vocal when they attack.
@@GLICIOUS21 very good point!!!
I love the shape of the TYPE R❤️❤️❤️.Who else loves the shape?
I really respect the Type R, but it looks a bit juvenile IMHO. Anyone over the age of 25 is going to look ridiculous in it.
@@richardhoulton4016 I like the way the Type R looks. You can't really make solid arguments regarding the cosmetics/aesthetics of a vehicle because it all comes down to opinion and visual preference.
sh4rk sh4d0w Of course. I think it looks a bit juvenile.
Just drive whatever you like, who cares what others think.
Civic Type R is awesome I just wish the styling is more tone down.
It is a cool car it should look different!6
Then it wouldn’t be a typeR it’d be a regular civic.
I agree. They coulda done away with the fake rear vents at least
Exactly. Wish it were more like a sleeper. The style right now definitely attracts the cops.
C Marz only in your eyes. You’re not ready for future
This is like comparing a Renault Megane to an Aston Martin Vantage. Yeah they’re both West European, but similarities end there.
I’m a big fan of the old 3 and old top gear but they really have got it right by bringing in Chris Harris. He brings so much credibility, he knows what he’s talking about and he really can drive. Keep up the good work and Harris deserves every success.
whoa ebisu circuit, really feels the nostalgia of best motoring right here

Civic Type R gets "children" comment, and the Sti that has almost the same styling, get zero comments lol
Big ups to Swindon
05:28 Ninga Stig using his middle leg to great effect Lol
I died! LOL!
Hahahahahahaha, I love this race, I thought I was watching a video game for a minute. The animations, commentary etc made it soooo much fun to watch. Keep it going guys
Not only Chris Harris can drive but he can host Top Gear all by himself...Impressive!
I'm actually impressed, that a Luxurious GT Coupé kept up or even was ahead of a proper track orientated Civic.
Just the raw grunt of that V8 when it had room to stretch its legs, it was never meant to be a track car, at least not on the stock suspension/tires.
Quick Expert Reviews look at the price difference. One should out perform the other in every way but it doesn’t. I would rather the Honda.
That was a cool segment. Enjoyed it a ton. I love both cars, they are so so different.... if only one though, the LC for me.
169mph really from a 2.0 civic that's crazy
Take off the gearbox limiter and it will reach 296km/h
163 here with some rpm left...stock k20 276kmh
Harris, the type of guy to drift all FWD cars
How does he do that?? 😨😵
@@hereb4theend Only Chris can do this
Oversteer
@@hereb4theend Throttle lift off
He increases the tire pressure above manufacturer standards in only the rear wheels.
Its actually not that difficult, especially if it is chilly out.
My favorite Top Gear video thus far.
Wow, you guys went all out with the production budget on this one. Kinda like watching Kill Bill.
Wow. Love the Japanese elements, especially the ninja bit. Good job. Chris.
Chris makes TG watchable again.
Only thing this vid is missing is some eurobeat music ^^
DEJA VU
yep
And hooches 😉
and kansei no dorifto comments underneath it
3:18 i love Lexus and damn the close-up of LC500 looking like beauty and the beast sure is heaven right there
the animations is really top-notch much like MotorTrend never judge a book by it's cover ignition episode 172.
Does it have the trousers to back up the mouth? I'd say the 10+ lap records at 10 different tracks speaks for itself
I'm in the middle of negotiating trying to buy a Type R so it can be my 4 door daddy car for when I'm driving around with my son and wife! Great cars for the money.
You sir, are a smart man.
Acc0rd79 nice!! I knew I recognized that username somewhere lol hope you get it at a great price
Idk how much r u buying it for but I'm in NC and can get it to you for out the door $36,400.
@@farhatali761 wow, that's a great price. My new Aprilia racebike build cost more than that.
do it. i have a type R & can tell you that it is as amazing as Chris Harris makes it look. worth every penny.
Still, my heart goes to civic FD2R or civic type R based from civic FD series. The last N/A vtec engine and built in japan only with JDM looks that never outdated
never outdated but always looking like shit lol
@@hazardeur no it's not go away shoosh
I'm loving this new Top Gear led by Chris Harris.
The LC500 isn’t a performance car... why not race an RCF instead?
Finally! Someone that agrees with me!
Agreed. This match up is dumbfounding lol
👌
For car enthusiasts Chris Harris is the new Top Gear. More like this please.
The only reason I still watch Top Gear for Chris Harris, i remember this episode an awesome duel. Type-R is awesome!
That type r looks like the result of a one night stand between a panamera and a crv
Best comment thus far😂😂😂
one of the few guys that can drift a front wheel drive
in logic only rwd can drift, the rest is power slide
i can drift no wheel drive cars
That Type R is awesome. Forget lexus, you can fit basically four people in the R but only two in the LC.
Really kid? Sports Civics are for kids. Lc500 for grown adults! Wait til u r over 30yoa. Your taste will change. I promise u
The editors are given free reign with this series. haha
5:43 "come on little honda" i felt that
Hit me in the spot
One makes you look like the most successful chav in town, the other the most successful cosmetic dentist in town.
This is the type of content that I like to see in a car show! ❤️
I love how the Type R looks 👌🏻
Type r doesn’t look better than the Lc 500
@@shahbazalimirza That’s your opinion . I personally think that the Type R looks more exciting.
The art style caught my eye, it's pretty cool to see these cars in comic book style for the introductions
The Lexus would've won if the (samurai) driver wasn't drifting all over the place
Or if it wasnt so staged
The Lexus is not a track car is more of a GT car. Thats why its sloppy on corners.
@@jpizel1540 agree but still, these vids are ultra staged and drop a real conclussion from them is pointless.
@@marfrandema1884 you're getting mixed up with the old Top Gear..this is Chris Harris one of the best motor journalists ever..what hes says he means
@@mbal4052 do they still do the power laps with the Stig? That was more objective.
The LC500 is an incredible car, just look at the interior! Top gear should have properly reviewed it
Worst infotainment system on the market.
@@leedye6687 i doubt people will buy a car for its infotainment system
@@aneesh8963 What else would they buy it for? Slow, heavy, does not handle. Folks buy Lexus's for the ride, to cruise, and that requires a nice audio video system. Lexus has lagged behind the Germans for over 15 years now. These days people are comparing a Civic to the LC500, what does that tell you? Another Lexus failure, no wonder they are not selling, and no wonder Lexus sales are down substantially.
@@esteemedenergy comparing the lc500 to a civic type R us nothing but stupid. They are in completely different categories striving and achieving different values.
I am desperate to manual swap an Lc5oo…
That mixture out of those two cars would be divine!
Damn, what an awesome video!
$40K Car vs $100K car, its not a apples to apples comparison, still fun to watch. I don't think LC 500 owners will care that their car is not as fast as a Honda.. lol
they should thats a joke
If you have a nice Lexus, you literally wouldn't care about a Honda, no matter how fast it is. Because its still just a Honda
Lexus is just a Toyota
But the LC 500 is faster. When they got to more of straight line you could see it separating itself from the Type R. This race had more to do with the drivers than the cars themselves, in which case Chris Harris is a better driver than the guy in the LC. With that said, the Type R is still impressive for what it is.
Like he said. Civics are for children. Lc500 for grown adults. Honestly, u shouldnt have any business driving the civics if u are over 30yoa.
You actually think that honda really can out run the LC 500! Not even close. Fun video.
5:23 - That is hilarious. I always knew stig was hung like a horse.
So Ken was the Lexus and Ryu was the Honda. Chris, "you win, perfect"
@Scorpion7substance your comment is underrated
I never get tired of seeing the type r drifting, amazing
As an owner, this is the greatest FK8 porn I've never seen.
4:27 K A N S A I D O R I F T O *Plays Deja Vu*
I appreciate this video. Finally, a race video that has effects, ninjas, and loud engines.
