I will never get over Flight 93 and the sheer bravery and patriotism of the passengers. It was really just a small group that coordinated the whole thing. All it took was a few people learning about the planes hitting the Towers, and they just knew what they had to do.

Something that’s often overlooked is that the flight was delayed by an hour, had it not been for the delay, the hijacking would have occurred much earlier before the news of the other attacks went through.
And the plane likely would have reached its target.

And the odd, coldly delivered cellular goodbye phonecalls from the passengers to their loved ones before they "breached the cockpit with a stewards trolley, LETS ROLL!" ?
You know? The ones that the 2000's era ground based celltowers picked up? From an airliner at 30,000 feet?
Those towers whose range doesn't even reach _half_ that height?
This is just one, _one_ irregularity of the _thousands_ associated with this event.
Hit a nerve eh? Good. Seethe.

I was 24 and living in Queens. Raced to pick up my girlfriend that was at work in Long Island City. Almost couldn't get there since all the highways, tunnels, and bridges got shut down. I remember seeing fire trucks headed to Manhattan with firefighters that never made it home. I passed 1 fire house ( Engine 288 and Haz Mat) where I think every man from that house died. I remember seeing people running through the streets crying and panicking. But I finally made it and got her back home safe. We live in PA now. Had 2 kids, divorced. I think about 9/11 almost everyday.
So if you were in 2nd grade, you must be around 32 now. I hope that day didn't impact you too much and that things are going good for you.

Slight correction. Professional snake handler Lawrence Van Sertima was bit by a Taipan snake on September 11 and taken to a hospital in Miami by helicopter. All Taipan antivenom vials in the state of Florida were used on Van Sertima but he ultimately needed more. The only locations that had Taipan antivenom were New York and San Diego. Since New York was obviously not an option that day, the extra antivenom had to come from San Diego. The director of the hospital requested FAA approval for a Learjet 36 to carry the antivenom from San Diego to Miami which was granted. The Learjet landed in Miami at 4PM on Wednesday after being escorted by two fighter jets, and Van Sertima survived.

There were two F-15’s that got up in the air with only 100 rounds of training ammo (no missiles or other weapons). They were sent to intercept Flight 93 when it stopped talking to ATC. The two pilots made a plan in the air that one would ram their plane into the cockpit while the other rammed their plane into the tail since they had no weapons, but the passengers fought back and the plane crashed in PA before they got there. New subscriber..... neo, this is journalism at its finest. I was at work at a local US TV station that morning - I was a tech person. And when the 2nd plane hit, I felt my knees almost buckle. Everyone knew the world had just changed in an instant. On the day, I remember feeling lost - along with everyone at work - as AF1 was in communications blackout while POTUS headed back to DC. That night, all the TV stations, even ones with no news division, had gotten last minute retransmission agreements to simulcast one of the other networks covering the event. Wall-to-wall coverage went on for at least 3 days.

I was also at work, at a TV station in Omaha. I still remember it vividly. When we learned Bush was on his way to Offutt AFB, we scrambled a live crew out there to cover it - it was surreal. In the end, I was on the switcher directing our coverage until well after Bush left Offutt. 12+ hours without a break. The enormity of what happened that day didn't hit me until I got home - we were too busy covering it.

I live in Sweden 🇸🇪. At this time we had a new office lacking only one thing. A tv antenna or cable. Internet news outlets were overloaded instantly after this event started. Sweden is 7 hours ahead of New York. So the first mentions of this happened in the early afternoon here.
I was working at Ericsson the telecom company at the time and later that afternoon I was taking a flight to London for a 3 day conference. We actually did go. On a British Airways Boeing 767 3 hours delayed since 3 passengers with loaded bags were missing. It was total chaos and changes flying forever. Also during the conference they said that “of course keep your phones on!” We were glued to tvs and radio in taxis all night that day making our way to London and our hotel. On the return trip security was forever changed and everything down to a hairpin had to be left behind in plastic bags. A horrible event that still fascinates and terrifies people to this day, which probably was intended. Also sparked a lot of conspiracy theories. I will never forget 9/11 2001

When the fighter pilots reached the offending airplane, the fighters were ordered to shoot the plane down, but the pilots on site decided to give communications another shot. Communicating by Morse code, the pilot of the passenger plane and the fighter were able to communicate, making it known the passenger airplane was experiencing a malfunction in their radio. President of my flight school was flying the backup 757 for Air Force One. He said they were sitting in the cockpit reading the morning papers which were printed before the attacks happened, so they had no idea what was happening. Suddenly Secret Service came and told them to get in the air ASAP. They didn't know where they were going either but ultimately they did go straight back to DC I believe. He said the most surreal thing about it all was how quiet the radios were. Usually there's constant chatter all the way along the east coast but it was just them, AF1, and the controllers

On 9/11 we lived in apartment buildings right near SAC Offut AFB. At first we heard the jets and went out onto the patio because we thought the base was under attack. Than we heard a larger plane and as the plane turned in to make a landing at the base I saw the seal on the plane. It was all in slow motion, and I can still see it as clear as if it had happened yesterday. Just seeing Air Force One heading to land not but 2 miles away from where I stood on that day was crazy.

I'll never forget that helpless look on Bush's face when his aide whispered into his ear about the two towers being hit. You could tell he was thinking 'Oh, sh11111111t, now I have to make decisions. Pappy reassured me the job was nothing but rodeos and power boats. Now I'm going to have to actually go to work and _think."_

I remember that day after I got home from school, there was a small general aviation plane flying around my town near DFW. Two fighter jets dispatched to intercept it right over my neighborhood. I swear they were so close you could see the pilots. Apparently the guy had no idea the airspace had been shut down. I wish I could’ve heard that conversation they had with him.

There's an amazing documentary that goes completely indepth about this. They even interview all of the important people who were involved that day, including Bush and Cheney. Kind of crazy to see them actually talking in-depth about 9/11 since you usually get fairly surface level responses from them about things.
The doc is called 9/11: Inside the President's War Room

writing from my hubby's account we share: I salute the people on flight 93. I am so sorry for the loss to their family and friends. You all were so brave and we are so thankful for your selfless collaboration. I will never forget that day. Only a few years earlier because of my own family abusing me, I had tried to commit suicide to escape my family so seeing the people jump from the towers in desperation maybe thinking maybe they might have a chance, maybe not knowing how close they were or not to the ground as it was being destroyed, just knotted my stomach, twisted my heart in pain and made me cry. It still hurts my heart to see the footage. They were jumping but they were jumping because they had lives to get back to, family to live with, family who was waiting and hoping they would live. I remember my mom and I just sitting on the couch together snuggled up crying softly and singing along quietly/silently to the chorus of Alan Jackson's "Where Were You When The World Stopped Turning?" That was a beautiful song and remains a beautiful song.
