I will never get over Flight 93 and the sheer bravery and patriotism of the passengers. It was really just a small group that coordinated the whole thing. All it took was a few people learning about the planes hitting the Towers, and they just knew what they had to do.
Something that’s often overlooked is that the flight was delayed by an hour, had it not been for the delay, the hijacking would have occurred much earlier before the news of the other attacks went through.
And the plane likely would have reached its target.
I love that story! Such heroic people. May they always be remembered and honored.
And the odd, coldly delivered cellular goodbye phonecalls from the passengers to their loved ones before they "breached the cockpit with a stewards trolley, LETS ROLL!" ?
You know? The ones that the 2000's era ground based celltowers picked up? From an airliner at 30,000 feet?
Those towers whose range doesn't even reach _half_ that height?
This is just one, _one_ irregularity of the _thousands_ associated with this event.
Hit a nerve eh? Good. Seethe.

Crazy that it was the FAA's national operations manager's (Ben Sliney) first day on the job when it happened.
That's one hell of an orientation.
"Finally, my first day on the job! This will be an easy day."
Trial by fire they said
that was probably planned as well
coincidence ? I think not
I was in 2nd grade living in Manhattan and I got picked up from school by my parents during lunchtime. When we got home I saw it on tv and thought it was a movie playing
nooo wayy hahaha, I hope that was not traumatizaing for you after
It’s the definition of “who’s going to tell him”
I was 24 and living in Queens. Raced to pick up my girlfriend that was at work in Long Island City. Almost couldn't get there since all the highways, tunnels, and bridges got shut down. I remember seeing fire trucks headed to Manhattan with firefighters that never made it home. I passed 1 fire house ( Engine 288 and Haz Mat) where I think every man from that house died. I remember seeing people running through the streets crying and panicking. But I finally made it and got her back home safe. We live in PA now. Had 2 kids, divorced. I think about 9/11 almost everyday.
So if you were in 2nd grade, you must be around 32 now. I hope that day didn't impact you too much and that things are going good for you.
i'm hoping you aren't traumatised.
I live in Brazil and I was 13 or 14 back then. I remember my school principal going classroom to classroom to tell the news as soon as our tv stations gave the news. It was a eerie day.
9-II appeared in an episode of The Simpsons, years prior to the “attack,” and numerous other places. It is well and truly sick
Lmao crazy how western centric global media is, this shit happens in other countries all the time, but boo hoo the US, the world hegemony that destroys countries periodically suffered this
That sounds oddly similar to the day the Challenger space shuttle went down when I was nine. They had wheeled in a TV for us to watch the first teacher in space. The principal came in to talk to the teacher to make sure we didn't see it.
@@naeemahmed5236 Why did you put air qutoes over attack?

12:53 there was one other plane that was allowed to fly. It was a small Learjet that had the antidote for a very highly venomous snake that bit somebody in Miami and it flew from San Diego while being escorted by two F-16s.
I came watching this video partly because of the F-16 on the thumbnail and this comment is the only mention of the plane.
I thought it was Miami? cause from what I know antivenom for exotic snakes are all stockpiled in Miami
@@farhanpramadipta1858 most likely
Slight correction. Professional snake handler Lawrence Van Sertima was bit by a Taipan snake on September 11 and taken to a hospital in Miami by helicopter. All Taipan antivenom vials in the state of Florida were used on Van Sertima but he ultimately needed more. The only locations that had Taipan antivenom were New York and San Diego. Since New York was obviously not an option that day, the extra antivenom had to come from San Diego. The director of the hospital requested FAA approval for a Learjet 36 to carry the antivenom from San Diego to Miami which was granted. The Learjet landed in Miami at 4PM on Wednesday after being escorted by two fighter jets, and Van Sertima survived.
@@farhanpramadipta1858 Yes, the man was bitten in Florida and taken to a hospital in Miami where he was administered all the Taipan snake antivenom available in the state. More antivenom had to be flown from San Diego with FAA approval and 2 fighter escorts.

I remember an interview of an F15 pilot who protected the Air Force One along the way. At some point they realized that, if it came to an attack on the plane, they had one simple job: put themselves between the attacker and the president. I habe massive respect to everybody involved.
There were two F-15’s that got up in the air with only 100 rounds of training ammo (no missiles or other weapons). They were sent to intercept Flight 93 when it stopped talking to ATC. The two pilots made a plan in the air that one would ram their plane into the cockpit while the other rammed their plane into the tail since they had no weapons, but the passengers fought back and the plane crashed in PA before they got there. The pilots were Major Heather Penney and General Marc Sasseville.
Don't forget that Vice President at that time commanding the whole operation from the safe bunker in the white house because the president is absent. The VP had no choice and he was the one who ordered the fighter pilot to shoot down those passenger airplane, when the news about the airplane crashing down (he didn't know that plane crashing down by it's own), the VP said, "Ladies and Gentleman, we shot American airplane in American soil"

I still can't believe it took so long to get fighter escorts anywhere that day. Pretty unbelievable.
You have to keep in mind this was America in peacetime. There were no major threats back then that justified the extensive intelligence and military preparedness that we are used to today.
@@AsymmetricalCrimes I'm just surprised that they had no preparation or training for any potential threats in the skies. Isn't that what fighter jets are for? To take down domestic air threats? From what I remember they pretty much did nothing that entire day because they couldn't get in the air in time. That's shocking to me. I guess hijacking of planes was completely unexpected and unheard of.
@@jeremysmith9694 i don't think you understand how long it takes for a none prepped fighter to do safety checks, and pre-flight inspection as well as suiting a pilot up in the a g-suit so they don't pass out while flying at intense G's.
@@zavtparticles6828 I probably don't understand. But literally isn't that their job? I would have thought air force one has its own private fighters on call essentially ready to go at any time. I guess that's not the job of fighter jets. I'm not sure what their job is if not that. It's like a firefighter. They're trained to get ready and go fast in emergencies. It kinda blows my mind.
@@jeremysmith9694 in overseas location and on aircraft carriers we do keep some aircraft in a let's say "ready to fly status - alert" in either 15 minutes, 30 minutes or 60 minute status. Thats over seas, not at home, during "peacetime" at 9/8/7/6am depending on your time zone. 2nd, as stated in the video, AF1 was making decisions on its own and flying as the secret service saw fit without outside notice, granted they did fly over Pensacola and jacksonville which house the navy epicenter of East coast fighter jets.
going back to your 1st comment, the FAA/ATC were more than likely not aware of the simultaneous hijacking of 4 aircraft fast enough to be able to notify regional air commands for interception. Also, if they did manage an intercept, you'll need to think about how the pilot and mission command will be thinking, "hey, there are hundreds of innocent people on-board, and the debris could land in a populated area, do you fire on the aircraft?"
Over all its an extremely complicated matter we hopefully should never experience again as a nation.

New subscriber..... neo, this is journalism at its finest. I was at work at a local US TV station that morning - I was a tech person. And when the 2nd plane hit, I felt my knees almost buckle. Everyone knew the world had just changed in an instant. On the day, I remember feeling lost - along with everyone at work - as AF1 was in communications blackout while POTUS headed back to DC. That night, all the TV stations, even ones with no news division, had gotten last minute retransmission agreements to simulcast one of the other networks covering the event. Wall-to-wall coverage went on for at least 3 days.
I was also at work, at a TV station in Omaha. I still remember it vividly. When we learned Bush was on his way to Offutt AFB, we scrambled a live crew out there to cover it - it was surreal. In the end, I was on the switcher directing our coverage until well after Bush left Offutt. 12+ hours without a break. The enormity of what happened that day didn't hit me until I got home - we were too busy covering it.
The production and effort on this videos are awesome!
Great video!
My dad used to live in New York and work in the building next to the World Trade Center. when the first plane hit, he looked around and saw a HUGE fireball coming from the first tower. he still went in to work, because he also thought it was just and accident. but when the second plane hit, he ran. when we came back to the one world trade center and his old office, he cried it out. it was the first time I ever saw him actually cry, i was pretty shocked. i showed him this video and he could confirm everything that happend in this video.

My boyfriend worked next door as well in the World Financial Center. One of the worst parts of that day was no one's cell phones worked. I couldn't get in touch with him, had no idea if he was under a pile of rubble. At about 10:45am I got a landline call and heard the words "I'm home". I'll never forget that moment. He caught the last train to leave Penn station before all transit was suspended.
I’m from Sarasota County, and what baffles me is that Bush was at Emma E. Booker Elementary which is not that far from where the hijacker ringleader Mohammad Atta got flight training at Huffman Aviation in Venice, FL a little bit south of Sarasota. Crazy times.

I live in Sweden 🇸🇪. At this time we had a new office lacking only one thing. A tv antenna or cable. Internet news outlets were overloaded instantly after this event started. Sweden is 7 hours ahead of New York. So the first mentions of this happened in the early afternoon here.
I was working at Ericsson the telecom company at the time and later that afternoon I was taking a flight to London for a 3 day conference. We actually did go. On a British Airways Boeing 767 3 hours delayed since 3 passengers with loaded bags were missing. It was total chaos and changes flying forever. Also during the conference they said that “of course keep your phones on!” We were glued to tvs and radio in taxis all night that day making our way to London and our hotel. On the return trip security was forever changed and everything down to a hairpin had to be left behind in plastic bags. 9:17, the Canadian government issued a similar order for a plane approaching is airspace from international airspace. When the fighter pilots reached the offending airplane, the fighters were ordered to shoot the plane down, but the pilots on site decided to give communications another shot. Suddenly Secret Service came and told them to get in the air ASAP. They didn't know where they were going either but ultimately they did go straight back to DC I believe. On 9/11 we lived in apartment buildings right near SAC Offut AFB. At first we heard the jets and went out onto the patio because we thought the base was under attack. Than we heard a larger plane and as the plane turned in to make a landing at the base I saw the seal on the plane. It was all in slow motion, and I can still see it as clear as if it had happened yesterday. Just seeing Air Force One heading to land not but 2 miles away from where I stood on that day was crazy.
I'll never forget that helpless look on Bush's face when his aide whispered into his ear about the two towers being hit. You could tell he was thinking 'Oh, sh11111111t, now I have to make decisions. Pappy reassured me the job was nothing but rodeos and power boats. Now I'm going to have to actually go to work and _think."_
I remember that day after I got home from school, there was a small general aviation plane flying around my town near DFW. Two fighter jets dispatched to intercept it right over my neighborhood. I swear they were so close you could see the pilots. Apparently the guy had no idea the airspace had been shut down. I wish I could’ve heard that conversation they had with him.
There's an amazing documentary that goes completely indepth about this. They even interview all of the important people who were involved that day, including Bush and Cheney. Kind of crazy to see them actually talking in-depth about 9/11 since you usually get fairly surface level responses from them about things.
The doc is called 9/11: Inside the President's War Room
writing from my hubby's account we share: I salute the people on flight 93. I am so sorry for the loss to their family and friends. You all were so brave and we are so thankful for your selfless collaboration. I will never forget that day. Only a few years earlier because of my own family abusing me, I had tried to commit suicide to escape my family so seeing the people jump from the towers in desperation maybe thinking maybe they might have a chance, maybe not knowing how close they were or not to the ground as it was being destroyed, just knotted my stomach, twisted my heart in pain and made me cry. It still hurts my heart to see the footage. They were jumping but they were jumping because they had lives to get back to, family to live with, family who was waiting and hoping they would live. I remember my mom and I just sitting on the couch together snuggled up crying softly and singing along quietly/silently to the chorus of Alan Jackson's "Where Were You When The World Stopped Turning?" That was a beautiful song and remains a beautiful song.
