@@CookedOnionsvery believable. Most of the world had less than 10 TV stations at the time. A rural area of India likely had under 5 and even those would have unreliable signals. I was about nine years old when this happened and I still have a very vivid memory of laying on the bed at night with my mom and her longtime boyfriend, watching this happen on TV in their bedroom, I still miss those days slang between them and watching TV.. It felt like it took forever, but it was not very long, less than hour, it was the hold out at the end that took a long time and you couldn’t see anything because they turned the lights off, combined with the quality of a crt tv it got very boring at the end. I think I fell asleep.. I just remember asking “who is OJ Simpson?” And my moms boyfriend said he was a very famous former football player who turned into an actor, but as a kid in the 90’s, I had no clue who the guy was until he went to court and became infamous. I also remember listening to the police call to OJ and thinking as a 9 year old with no prior biases to him “this guy really did it. Everything he says and sounds like is super guilty” and I couldn’t believe there was even a trial and he was found not guilty
1 of the jury members strait up admitted on camera that she knew he was guilty but. I quote "i can't put another blk man in prison"..... let that sink in......

At the time, I worked off of I-5 at Red Hill (mentioned at 8:20). That was a crazy day. Everyone at work was glued to the TV watching the drama unfold.
I was too young to understand any of it, just being annoyed that my cartoons were interrupted, but I can't imagine what that would have been like to be in LA at that time watching that story unfold in your neighborhood. It's still nuts to think about.
i’m continually impressed by your animations in these videos. it makes it so much easier to track what’s happening for people who don’t know the area (like the animated maps of the car chase, showing the locations), and is really interesting for people who do know the area like me. absolutely insane to think that this chase happened on freeways i’m personally familiar with. thanks for the video, it was all fantastic as always!
Those sorts of confrontations are the reason Pablo Escobar was able to literally walk past soldiers patrolling the perimeter around his self funded prison!
Something really disgusting that not a lot of people know about is how the jury acted. It was admitted years and years later by jury members that they full on knew OJ was guilty but they refused to convict him because of the Rodney King situation not too long before everything went down. And the way one of the jurors talked about it in an interview is just sickening. Smug smile, talks about letting a m u r d e r e r go like it was the right thing to do and that they did the right thing. No. You can protest for Rodney King in other ways that are impactful and will lead to change WITHOUT LETTING HIM LOOSE! And the thing that's even more damning is how for a while prior to the deaths; there were lots of calls to the local police about OJ hurting Nicole. And the cops at the time were so "buddy-buddy" with him that it was brushed off once he came outside and gave his story of events. And then when everything happened... If you've seen the crime scene photos... You'll know that... it was... unbelievably vi*lent... and so... so horrific... You can literally see it step by step as it unfolded because of the splatter on the walls and floor and how it was dragged across the place. Horrific. Horrifying. And neither of them deserved it.
"This is A.C., I have O.J. in the car." "What- what's your name?" "My name is A.C. You know who I am goddammit!" transfer "Hi, what's your name?" "Oh, defudeba"
In the trial, as a juror, i would have voted innocent even though i knew he was guilty. But there was SIGNIFICANT doubt. Hell the police admitted mishandling the evidence. Fuhrmannadmited being a nazi. Tapes where he admitted to framing black people every day. That is reasonable doubt. He obviously did it, but the versict was correct
I found it pretty baffling even then as a teenager watching it all on TV. But I think in context it can be understood a little better. OJ’s arrest and trial happened just 2-3 years after the Rodney King beating and LA riots. There was a lot of hatred and mistrust of the LAPD and the criminal justice system in the Black community and elsewhere, and that was very actively harnessed by OJ’s legal team and his sympathizers in the media and public. Which is extra ironic, even cynical, given how little OJ wanted to be associated with Black culture or politics during his career. Also, there was much less understanding of both DNA forensics and intimate partner violence’s connection to homicide then vs now. I encourage you and anyone else to watch the “30 for 30” ESPN documentary about OJ Simpson and this case, it was both eye-opening and infuriating
Also keep in in mind that the Rodney King beating and subsequent riots had happened two years before, so the police didn’t want to risk something like that happening again, in addition to OJ being rich and famous.
I mean, famous or not, when dozens of cameras are broadcasting the whole thing live you can't just be gung ho about the arrest. *Especially* not in 1994, the Ruby Ridge and Waco massacres were still fresh in public minds so naturally the state police would like to avoid getting into the same hot water that ATF did just a bit earlier.
OJ sure was a convicted violent felon though, right? You know he got caught lying several times at the civil trial, right? The jury admitted to “payback” for Rodney King. Letting him go because he was blk was the right thing to do? That speaks volumes about character and integrity. Ignore evidence for the greater good of color. Good idea, right?
This is a very weirdly British chase. Id expect an American chase to end up with cars surrounding the bronco, lots of screaming and gunshots. I guess maybe because he was such a big celebrity, they didn't want it to turn into a pr disaster

At the time, I worked off of I-5 at Red Hill (mentioned at 8:20). That was a crazy day. Everyone at work was glued to the TV watching the drama unfold.

It's crazy that some people were convinced he was innocent. Someone innocent doesn't act that way.
It was pure racism by the jury and still happens in trials today

isn't it crazy how much leeway the police gives you if you are just famous or someone of status

Funny how it only takes someone being rich and famous for police to treat them very differently, even if they are a very likely suspect in a gruesome double homicide and demonstrate obvious guilty narcissistic behavior.
Lang was just using negotiation tactics during the most visible situation possible, it was masterfully done… it wasn’t so simple as him being rich… the jury trial result was him being rich our judiciary being broken. He was taken in peacefully and this was before Us cops getting “training” where they shoot first “out of fear”… cops back then only had revolvers mostly, and were taught to use lethal force last… so much has changed in my country. But don’t place blame where it isn’t specified.
