My friends bought the Porsche 911 4S while i bought the LC500, so I had the chance to explore both cars. I was never a lexus car guy, however my lexus love started when i bought the GS450H from 2014 and it still is the world best sedan in the world. The 911 is a fast brutal fun car, however men over 30 years old would get murdered by the discomfort of the 911 in comparisson to lc500. The 911 is an half hour car. The best half hour car, while the LC500 is pure, elegant, sopfisticated, and the sound man, when you hitt the rev limiter, you will forget about the 911 in a heartbeat. Top of all I can use it all the time. I am not worried about anything even if I hitt the rev limiter because the best engineers with moral have built it for me. Nothing is more gentlemans sportscar than the LC500.
I am 61 and can drive my 2023 911 Carrera hours at a time. LC500 maybe a comfortable highway cruiser but it is not a road performer like the 911. If you seek plush interstate ride, you should get a large comfortable sedan.. Not a wanna be sport car..
Nice to see an engineer's side by side. Personally, I cannot get behind the argument of the LC 500 not having a special interior. It's dated when it comes to tech, but I think the design is absolutely stunning and way more special than the 911. And that's what I think in general makes me desire the LC: it's special. I live close to a rich neighbourhood. Everyone has a 911 there. I see one nearly everyday. They're a common sight. Cool, but not special. The Lexus is a rare sight. Like an actual super car. I also think the design on it will age better than you think. It's lightly aggressive, but it's not an amorphous blob like so many modern cars. Then there's the fact that the Lexus is more comfortable. It says screw the horsepower race, we're going for confidence and comfort, like a GT car should. I'm gonna be saving up for the Lexus for sure.
I was a Porsche mechanic back in the 70s absolutely loved them! But after driving the LC500 Lexus is very special, just makes you smile every time you take one out for a test drive.
Hello...interesting video. I have been a 15 year Porsche owner (Cayman and 911) and my wife drove a Cayenne for many years. We left Porsche recently because the global (de-globalizing) situation is going to impact Porsche significantly and Porsche makes nothing in the US. From a driver's perspective, your comments on NVH and handling are spot on. At 3/10's on an interstate, the 911 become exhausting due to significant road noise in the cabin. That being said, I took my 911 to track days and it was huge fun and that is something the LC cannot do. I am now an LC500 owner and I enjoy the on-road driving experience immensely with an equivalent sense of occasion and more comfort when compared to the (991) 911. We'll see how the value proposition works out because I keep cars many years. The normally aspirated V8 will soon be a thing of the past and I think the LC will age well for that reason alone.
@@PC-xj2mw A Toyota 2000GT is still a desirable car. I'm not sure I'd agree that a 992 911 will be more desirable in 30 years than an LC500. The LC500 will be much more rare and be an NA V8, the 911 in general is will be desirable but I'm not sure what sets that apart from any other 911.
I have a 21 Lexus LC500, and all I can say is I love her! Like most, the infotainment system is not my favorite, but her smooth styling and drive makes it such a small detail.
@James Humphrey She's my daily show off! I drive her everywhere and park her away from everyone. Maintenance has only been the routine 5000-mile stuff. The rims get dirty real quick though so body detailing is a constant.
@James Humphrey You bet! Are there faster cars? Sure, but something about the unique and classy look just sets her apart. At the very least, take one for a test drive.
The one built in Japan has coolant valley leaks TSBs.. The Porsche on the other hand has the highest reliability out of any sportcar in its range... Hard to beat Porscbe reliability.. Coming from a Toyota owner. Drive one you will understand.
Also built in japan doesnt mean anything these days. Look at mazda cracking heads in the 2.5 and diesels, Subaru CVT and oil consumption, Toyotas 86, Mitsubishi, Nissan poor reliability... Honda and Toyota are the only japanese decent ones.
Very solid review/comparison, and not just because i have owned a 914, 924, 944, 944 Turbo, 928 GTS, 911 C2 and now a 911 C4 that i have owned for 22 years, and then on the JDM side, I have owned a variety of Datsun/Nissan, Mazda, as well as to many Toyota's to list them all, including the 1985 4Runner and 1993 Land Cruiser that STILL RUN and park next to my Land Rover Range Rover Discovery (Which is probably one the the most infuriating vehicles i have ever owned), bottom line, Great job and this is why everyone tests their vehicles against Porsches 911's
@alphadog9211 Good one, but no, I just do nothing but work, and the occasional racing weekend. This leaves me with no time to screw around or go out to bars. Clubs, restaurants, etc. Heck my last vacation was back in 2008, and the one before that was in 2003. Last year I worked 254 days in a row without a day off, and the shortest shifts where the 6 or 8 hour shifts at the Hobby shop on the weekends, otherwise I was pulling 14 to 18 hour days regularly during the week, a couple times I didn't even have a chance to sleep between my midnight & afternoon job. I had one week were I worked 84 hours in 4 days, then slept for 6 hours and worked my 8 & 6 hours on Friday, and yeah, when I got home Friday at 6pm, I took a shower & crashed out until 9am Saturday when I had to work at the Hobby shop at 10am, so yeah, I have a lot of toys, but no time to enjoy them. I've been saying I'm going to play Forza Motorsport 8 using my new racing chair, force feedback steering wheel, 3 pedals mounted to the chair, gear shifter, 65" LG OLED or my 144" wide screen using my commercial grade Sony projector and a Denon 7.2.4 Atmos and THX certified stereo, and in the past 7-8+ months since the game came out, I've gotten as far as installing it and doing the first 3 tutorials, so yeah, not much of a life, but I sure do learn a lot. Thanks for the comment, work hard, save at least some money every or every other paycheck and don't waste time, as that is the most important commodity we have, as people. Take care and work for your dreams.
I’ve owned a 911and I own a LC500 there’s no comparison both cars have nothing in common. Porsche is a sport car period and LC 500 is touring car and has never been advertised as a sport car. Today’s Porsche are beautiful and dealerships maintenance and I laugh at my friends who complain about the cost. Been there done that and I’m quite happy with my LC500 with its style ,reliability and gawking eyes 👀 staring giving a 👍. You really don’t see many LC500 on the roads but you would be surprised how many people know about the car and said to me it’s on their bucket list or win the lotto. My dream car is an LFA
As an LC500 owner first I have to say” thanks for the video!” Porsche is a great car, but not I was looking for. Happy Lexus made the LC500- great and fun car to drive around, love my LC!!!
This is by far, the best car review I have seen on youtube. Mr.David knows exactly what most of reviewers are missing here. We love our cars about design , quality, performance of many parts - engine, steering, sound, etc, and most important- feel good factor. 99% of car test are about acceleration times which , if it is only criteria, has nothing to do with pleasure of driving. Thank you, Mr.David
I owned a Carrera 911 S, and I enjoy driving it very much it did rattle and was very bumpy. I just recently bought a Lexus LC 500 and absolutely love it. The ride is without a question night and day better than a Porsche. But the wow factor when people see that car some of them don’t even know what kind of car it is. It looks much more expensive than it really is. And probably the best part is when you start it up the note coming out of the exhaust pipe is pure genius.
For me I would say the Lexus maintenance and reliability wins all day. That’s why I’m hunting one now. I love the auto show looks and design with that glorious V8, which is going away. Plus in my opinion, the interior is off the charts beautiful….there is hardly a surface that isn’t covered in leather. The 911 interior has always lost me …to basic and the windshield is in your face like the Beetle. I also believe that long term the LC will be highly sought after because of the V8 rwd in such a beautiful design and again, reliability. But of course that’s just my conclusion. I will not own a German car again…3 times was enough for me😉
The 911 beat the reliability scoring of toyota from 2014, 2016 and 2018 to 2022.. The build quality is unmatched as he says. The windishield its literally at the same distance as the Lexus... You are complaining about a sportcars interior made for DRIVERS with Lemans heritage.. Dont forget that the Lexus is now recalled for coolant valley leaks and paint fading... They have TSBs for that.
Also the 911 has one of the most customizable interiors out of any automaker.. You can literally buy an optional to cover the turn signals in italian leather and select all kinds of materials for the seat and dash... If you compare it with the most basic plain black one... That is another story.
@@chriszilar3657 Enjoy your LC. Im a Lexus/Toyota owner too (not LC) and i loved them. I was just saying Porsches are very reliable and they can be very customizable. Both very different cars for different purposes i would say.
The dual personality of the LC500 wins for me over the 911, I like the fact that the LC is both a smooth cruiser and has plenty of power and performance over 4000 rpm making it the ideal daily car with a visual wow factor.
I have been waiting for a thoughtful comparison like this! Thanks. Great cars but I prefer the LC500 a bit more for both the value and the overall driving experience on daily road conditions in the real world.
I rented a 2018 LC500 and it was exceptional. Everyone and I mean everyone looked and gawked. It was in that brilliant sparkling red. The owner matte blacked the wheels. That was a fun, wild weekend.
Sounds like the LC 500 convertible is what I would choose. Saw your review on the 4Runner and totally agree. Have owned many cars good & bad over the years but the LC is going to be my last.
A very good comparison. I cannot argue with your superior knowledge about anything except the interiors. The interior design of the LC 500 is exceptional and the most beautiful I have seen. Without hesitation I would take the LC 500 and leave the Porsche to the race track crowd.
Thanks for the pleasant, informative comparison. I am a former 911 owner, currently in the market for a new LC 500, and your review confirms my opinion of the two, and why I am shopping for a LC500. Thank you, and best wishes!
I prefer the LS 500 for its fantastic craftsmanship, engineering, reliability, comfort, beauty... and the glorious symphony of that Yamaha-tuned V8 roaring, snapping on upshifts, and raging on the rev-limiter. There is nothing like it, and it's unlikely there ever will be.
Great video David! The best breakdown of two vehicles I’ve seen. Test drove both, purchased a 21’ LC500 Convertible. V8, Comfort, Engine Sound, and the masters that put the car together in Japan are what sold it for me. What I didn’t expect was what it is like to drive this car in public. People flock to this car, they’re drawn to it. They don’t know what it is, but the design and look does something emotional to people that like cars. I’ll be selling mine soon if you like white and black. I will hate to see her go, but my family is growing!
Porsche with similar equipment will cost 50% more. Lexus beats it in every category except driving performance. Porsches are everywhere but the LC is a work of art on wheels.
Really loved this video!! Thank so much for making it! I was actually cross shopping a 911 against an LC500 a year back but went with the LC500 in the end. They are both wonderful cars and I would be happy with either but the LC500 is just that extra special, with that full-of-character NA V8. The sound that engine makes alone won me over P.S you also can't beat having a car built by takumi in motomachi!!
Have my LC for more than 2 years, and I enjoy driving this beauty every single day! I have goosebumps every time I start the engine :p Especially with the infrared exterior under the sun, no other car turns heads like the LC500. I love the LC500 at first sight. I'm sure the Porsche drives well, but the design is never my cup of tea.
I have been leasing an LC 500 for the last two years, and I can tell... it's the most amazing vehicle I have ever driven. So much so that I might even purchase it at the end of the lease. My only gripe is that the ML stereo lacks enough bass for my tastes. My wife's 2022 NX 350h even has a better sounding stereo.
Thank you for the review. I've been an owner of the LC500 now for four years and have some very strong feelings for it. They are special cars. Special enough that when I ponder parting with mine, I go for a drive and instant recall just how comfortable and wonderful of a car it is. As others (and you) have mentioned, I view 911's a bit more on the sports car side of the house, where as the LC500 is by far the GT. Although, many have been surprised after some "spirited" group drives. I drive my LC to and from Carweek every year (2600 miles) and it's one of the first cars (out of the 100+ I've owned), that I literally could drive all day and not get fatigued. I can also confirm highway trips seeing 30-33 mpg's out of this fabulous 471hp V8 is not unheard of. My LC garners more compliments than my Ferrari F430. I'm a fan of Porsche, but overall, I feel this is a better car all around and most certainly not as common as 911s. It just checks more boxes and is certainly worth the $25k-35K LESS than a base 911 these days. 👍
Hi David! As far as reliability and dependability, fit and finish, craftsmanship, looks & style, and finally quality control. I have to give it to the LC 500. In addition, I think the LC 500 in my opinion is much cheaper and you get much more for the dollar overall they only make like a couple thousand yeah I think Lexus sold not even 1900 of them last year where Porsche makes tens of thousands of the 911‘s and I feel that they are ridiculously priced, I personally like the Porsche turbo S but without options they’re a little over 200,000 and a nicely option. One is about 250 to 275,000 David this video was FANTASTIC, the quality of information that you give is top notch like the way the Takumi craftsman build the LC 500 the best of the best of the best I can’t wait for the day when you hit 1 million subscribers and I think by the time you hit the ceiling you’ll be up with SCOTTY KILMER with over 5 million subscribers that’s what I think and I know it will happen… You just have a wealth of quality information to share with people and they are going to remember that by purchasing the vehicles you recommend and they’re going to have that feeling for the rest of their lives that’s a beautiful thing I think Respectfully Submitted, Jimmy USAF 🇺🇸✈️🙏😇💜✝️👍🇮🇹🇯🇵🇨🇦
Jimmy, you are too nice to me! I hope to bring more insights regardless of my subs numbers - but it's very kind of you to always make such wonderful comments!
I'm 50/50 on these. I'm leaning LC500 just because the maintenance costs are way less and I'm getting tired of paying 2k/year on yearly maintenance for my Mercedes E43.
Another excellent video David! You are the “Consummate Car Guy!” I enjoy the “behind the scenes” knowledge you have inside the manufacturing plants. Both cars are cool, I’m going to go with LEXUS tho!
Great video. I bought a 2017 911 C2s in spring 2016 which was the first year of the twin turbo 3 liter flat 6. I love that engine design. I agree with everything in your video. My wife drives a 2013 Lexus RX450h and the quality, comfort, and reliability of that car is amazing. I would imagine the LC 500 would be even better. I never considered a Lexus when I was sports car shopping, and was all-in for a 911. No regrets. On a twisty back road the 911 is just amazing-just so agile and fun. The ride is a little bumpy though, and the wind/tire noise is really pretty bad at highway speeds. As an aside, I really prefer Lexus dealerships to my local Porsche dealership. I went in for some routine maintenance a few months ago and they tried to get me to pay 9,000 dollars for a 6 year service. Only 18k miles on the car. That drove me away to a great independent Porsche repair shop with great results and satisfaction. I can't see a Lexus dealership doing something like that. It might be that the LC500 would be a better fit for my wife and I for road trips than the 911, but the handling of the 911 and the iconic design has made it a keeper for us.
I agree with you. You cannot compete with the build quality of a vehicle made at the Motomachi plant. Also, when looking at the clear coat of a Lexus using a paint gauge, the clear coat on all panels are very consistent. I don't know if TMC still "wet sands" each Lexus built there. However, the Lexus design will not age as gracefully as the Porsche 992. Timeless. Which will definitely impact the resale value. Thnx.
I do love the road feel on my 911 C4 (the ride quality is due to the tires, you really need to use the Michelin tires that they recommend for each model), I enjoy my Pilot Sport A/S4's and that's after nearly 200,000 miles that i have put on my 911 C4 in the past 22 years, so YES it is WORTH IT, IT DOES HOLD ITS VALUE, and EVEN NOW, 22 years later ITS STILL A FANTASTIC AND DAILY USEABLE VEHICLE, The winner must be the 911. P.S. NOTHING STOCK BEATS A 2022, 2023 or 2024 Porsche 911 Turbo S (The end).
I had a new 202 911 cabriolet 4s for two years , really loved the car unfortunately i was T boned by a motor home wich completely destroyed it . The porsche was very nice except for the maintenance cost and frequent expensive tire replacement , i almost got another one but changed my mind and despite my wife's objections about a lexus I bought a 2024 lc 500 cabriolet and that was the best decision I made and you will understand the minute you get in one and drive , oh and now my wife is the one that drives it almost all the time .
Thank You David. Both on my bucket list to drive. When you respect the engineering and fit and finish. You can not help but appreciate them both. I stand next to these vehicles in awe I just want to touch it them and sit in them. I know it is me being pedestrian my praise I am not an engineer. I do appreciate craftsmanship. Thank You.
If your over 6’2”, you won’t fit comfortably in the LC. So frustratingly disappointing when I tried to buy a new 22’ LC. I waited 3 months for the car I ordered only to discover that I couldn’t get the seat back far enough. The electric seats prohibit reclining to a comfortable position forcing your body more forward and upright. The salesman had no idea about the limited seating position for taller people. It killed my dream car purchase. 😢
Have to say I agree with you. I have owned a Porsche I drove it for 3 years and sold it not because I didn’t love it but was able to basically get my money back. I looked to replace it but with the car market as it is couldn’t find the one I was wanting. I’m a practical guy I love to have nice things so that’s why I drive a Lexus SUV as my daily driver but as you said sports car I would go with Porsche with anything else Lexus.
This man is the exact definition of “Porsche fun boy”. How you put Porsche in everything ahead of LC500. Bro is an engineer but so biased. Happy to see lc500 getting love it deserves in this comment.
Porsche is so stiff to drive. You can feel the bumps even on road divider. Seat is not comfortable for longer driving. I sold my Porsche because of this and bought a LC500. So comfortable to drive even on longer distance. I’m not going to race it but great looks esp having a convertible and reliability of Lexus is far better
@@raymundocaparros-sd4br that’s what I am talking about. I love LC500 for comfort and reliability. You made the right decision. Hopefully you enjoy that car with its beauty. Only problem is it attracts attention a lot.
Watched this again. I have the Porsche Panamera E-hybrid and the LC 500 convertible. Great combination, tend to do more daily driving in the Panamera on all electric.
The Porsche 911 is one of the top sports vehicles ever and presently made! However, that being said the Porsche 911 is not a luxury GT cruiser and it was never meant to be that either; it is a pure drivers' vehicle. Meanwhile the Lexus LC 500 is a GT luxury veiled meant to be driven leisurely with some serious added performance. Not to be intentionally insulting to anyone, but I would say that an older driver will appreciate the LC 500 more, while the Porsche 911 is generally meant for a more 'energitic' driver.
I would choose the LC500 over a "base" 911 any day, all day. The styling inside and out is so much better than the plain looking interior of the german car. The Lexus looks like a rolling piece of art.
It’s a good review, but an odd comparison. The Porsche is a sports car and the LC a GT albeit a sporty GT and therefore people buy them for different reasons. I’ve driven an LC as a daily driver for 4 years and I bought it because of its futuristic design (a work of art), it’s reliability, low maintenance cost, luxury and comfort, and the fact I can cruise 500 miles in comfort on a tank of gas averaging 29-30 mpg. Yes, most reviewers dislike the infotainment system, but owners quickly move to managing things with voice commands. Some reviewers and performance tests compare the LC to the Aston Martin DB-11 where by AMCI performance standards it compares very well if not better…and at half the cost. What really hooks owners, though, is the muscle car-like sound of the induction and exhaust noise which make for an emotional experience. BTW, a point of fact. There is no such thing as a $130k LC in the USA. As for styling, I will admit to a prejudice against the Porsche. At the risk of inciting Porsche owners, the design is indeed iconic, but maybe it’s because every Porsche has been a variation of Ferdinand Porsche’s original design of the Volkswagen from the 1930’s. Just can’t get that out of my head, but the rest is quite special. So if you’re looking for a daily driver in this price range and you don’t care about car badges or performance you’ll never use, the LC is a great choice.
5:09 "In terms of interior fit and finish it (LC500's) is second to none, it is absolutely top-notch" and then gives it a 4.8/5.0 score. Why not 5/5? What is his definition of "second to none"? To me, that means first place. What car would be top score of >5/5 then? As for the LC's exterior styling down the road, I think it will absolutely stand the test of time 10-15 years down the road, because Toyota hasn't changed it every 3 years. It's going into its 7th year of production and exteriorly unchanged. He completely lost me in the LC's exterior being 3.8/5 calling it "outdated". I have yet to meet or see of another human on the planet who considers the LC's interior "outdated". It always wows everyone... except for David. Interesting.
Let me help you. Driving responsiveness hands down 911, quicker and feel more connected to the track and above average build considering European builds. LC500, quality build, I mean quality, more comfortable and practical. Design is one of a kind. So either one of many with 921 or one of few-:) ❤ great channel
This is exactly what I wanted to view because I am a huge Lexus fan and have been extensively looking at the LC 500 but also have been having a little bit of a quandary because of the 911. I have until the Spring to decide and it won't be easy for me.
Can you do a review on 2024 Lexus LC 500 Impression Series? If you need a sample, I have access in LA. I wonder if it gotten any better on the negative points you pointed out in this video
Having owned several 911’s, all air cooled, including a 930 (Turbo..!) can say they are magnificent cars: Durable, eye catching, and super fun on country roads or trips to the grocery store. I’ve driven an LC, and currently own to SUV’s, a 2003 LX470, and a 2022 GX460 (luxury), and can say that overall they are the finest built, and most reliable cars I’ve ever owned. IMO, the LC offers more for less than the 911’s, and in terms of fit and finish are magnificent. Yet the Porsches offer what no other high performance sports cars offer at its price point. Superlative overall performance with unparalleled, in its automotive category, reliability. Were I in the market for a six figure car, I would have to have one (at least!) of each… ps: excellent, thoughtful content; much appreciated…
That's a tough answer to render, especially so if you have never owned a convertible car! The allure of a convertible may be higher than the daily practical use for a convertible, but that depends on the person. I have known a few older people who have ditched their convertibles after having one for many years and they say that at a certain stage in life, the usage of a convertible becomes less and less, even in fair-weather states like Florida, Texas, California, etc. There's no definitive answer to your question as the answer is all individually based.
Had to check out this video since I'm trying to decide between the Targa and a LC. Since they are close in your evaluation matrix it comes down to how i would use the car.. For driving around town or an all day drive I'd go with the LC. For spirited driving on twisty roads or a day at the track I'd go with the Targa.
I have a Targa GTS and this is not the best one to put on track. You can use a hardtop 911 to get more value of your money. 911 is not as comfortable as LC but they are iconic and hold on to the value better
I would choose the Porsche every single time. As much as I love Toyota/Lexus products as a daily driver, if I am looking for a sports car the 911 is my choice.
Very informative breakdown. Comparing their comfort and performance does go a long to showing how the 911 is very much a pure sports car while the LC500 is definitely leaning a little mire towards GT car, so its not quite the 1:1 comparison something like the R8 or AMG GT is to the 911. Definitely close enough to warrant comparing, though. I do have a couple of points regarding value/resale, specifically when it comes to options. One of the things I love about Lexus is they tend to spec a car as good as possible, then just give it to you. The European manufacturers (including Porsche) tend to take a different approach; once they've specced the car, they see how much of it they think you'll be willing to pay extra for, then make those things options. This has two outcomes. Firstly, it means that while they might start out similarly priced, the 911 can get noticably more expensive very quickly. Secondly, the lack of options, combined with much lower resale, means the LC500 definitely seems like a winner 2nd-hand, because you pretty much only need to find one in a colour you like and it's exactly how you would've specced a new one.
Toyota/Lexus achieve high reliability by under-stressing the engine and suspension. Big capacity engines that produce less power and consume more fuel. Suspension that isn’t designed to be pushed hard. Porsche do the exact opposite. A tiny flat 6 that generates insane amount of power, suspension that can bear enormous g forces and brakes that are unparalleled in motoring world. All if this puts a lot of stress on the mechanical components that will therefore break more often. Choose LC500 if you want a serene, luxurious, hassle free ownership experience. But if you need/want an exhilarating and rewarding experience then it has to be 911 which WILL hurt your wallet big time, no doubt!
Interesting assessment. I wish I could give you my firsthand opinion regarding which of these two beautiful examples to pick. With that said, the LC500 appears in more of my dreams.
After driving both cars, I just purchased the LC500 Convertible. To me The Porshce was just all Hype till I drove the LC 500. The quality, fit and finish, exhaust sound, reliabilty (that you dont mention) were more important to me than the Porshce name. By the way my new lexus cost me $55k less than the Porsche Carerra.
Porsche 911 if money is not a concern. Owning a Porsche 911 is like having a beautiful German Wife who always want expensive stuffs. Lexus LC500 if your are somewhat concern about money but can afford one anyways. Owning a LC500 is like having a very cute and lovely Japanese Wife who will occasionally want expensive stuffs but she will love and take care of you forever. Keep in mind that although maintaining a LC500 will most likely be cheaper than a 911, but don't be expecting to pay Corolla maintenance bills on the LC500.
Having driven both back to back and personally owning two Porsches (718 Spyder and 18’ 911 4S). The handling on the LC 500 is not in the same league as the Porsche. Which is totally fine as it’s more of a touring car and would be great for long road trips for ride comfort and NVH whereas the ride in the 911 is just tolerable on long road trips. Forget about taking calls or having conversations with people in the 718 Spyder, it’s that ridiculously bad. The NA V8 in the LC is a standout which alone makes it a worthwhile purchase. The howl of the flat 6 twin turbo is unmistakably 911, also fantastic. While I love Porsche, I do frequently contemplate owning an LC just for the experience 👀.
Thank you for a great review. I owned two 911’s. (2000 auto and 2007 Stick/Cabriolet). I regret selling the Cabriolet/speed yellow. But, it is gone. I’m 68 and to be honest: I want a new Porsche and can’t afford the price tag on a turbo. I am thinking of getting at 3 year old LC for around $80k, and a 3 year old is fifty grand less than the Porsche. Also, I love the interior looks of the LC, the V8 and the exterior looks...I’ll try the LC this time. I am going tomorrow to test drive one, if they give me a good amount for my trade in?
No question. LC 500 is the best practical GT sports car in terms of quality, reliability, stunning design, and of course NA V8 with gorgeous exhaust sound.
My good friend just got the 2024 911. Amazing car, but for whatever the reason it reminds me of one of those nice homes you see in a big American a suburbs, looking like everything else on the road. The LC500 is bespoke, like a one off masterpiece that’s not replicated.
How do you basically reverse your opinion from the individual review of the LC500 to this review? Is it because you were less entranced by the LC500 after comparing to the 911?
Great review, in my humble opinion the interior of the LC is far superior than the 911. LC feels just wonderful. A+ in ergonomics from Lexus. 911s a Have never been as comfortable. I’ve driven both cars cross country, LC was much more comfortable after driving 9-10 hrs per day.
You did a good job but you are comparing two cars that are both unique but designed with different goals in mind. The 911 has always been a performance oriented sports car and renowned for that reputation and it costs $40K more then the LC500. The LC was an act of love by Lexus designers and engineers to create a halo car for the Lexus brand that would stand out as a unique car on its own and that is exactly what they have achieved. It was not designed for the track or to compete head on with sports cars like the 911 or many others, and is more in the realm of an Aston Martin or a GT model. It is unique in itself and stands out when seen on the highway and most people do not know what brand of car that it is, and Lexus would be the last brand they would think it is. The body shape is unique and looks good from all angles and the interior is the most luxurious and tastefully done in the industry. The engine may be the last big block naturally aspirated engine to be sold in mass production automobiles (although Corvette is coming out with the highest horsepower per cubic inch naturally aspirated engine every built for its high performance model). When you look at the details of the LC like the quality, the stiffness and solid feel of the chassis, the new paint that was developed which was developed (especially the blue),the 10 speed transmission, etc. there is no other car that actually puts all of those factors together as well as the LC500. It looks like a luxury car, it sounds like a muscle car when you open it up but can cruise in 10th gear very quietly and smoothly and can get over 30mpg on the highway. The drive modes can change its character from a refined GT to a beast by the turn of a knob. For about $110K US dollars, there is nothing that compares. The 911 and its variety of models is a classic and sets the bar for a pure performance sports car, but the LC500 is in a unique class of its own and getting more press coverage and interest as more and more are out there for people to see. I actually drive a 2018 LC500 and a 2020 Panamera and love both cars and they both have a unique look and personality, however, the LC is the one I take to car shows.
I will pick LC 500 any day i know LC 500 not fastest compare to the Porsche but LC 500 drive very comfortable quiet and eyes catching look and cheaper to buy thanks for sharing your video take care bye from milton Ontario Canada
@@treybyrd3332 They are expensive to maintain and unreliable. You will realize the first time something goes wrong. Parts and labor have to be factored in unless you simply don't care about money. My order for a 2024 LC 500 is in. I ordered the convertible. The upgrades to suspension, technology, tuning made the difference to me. LC 500 is my choice, It’s different, it’s Quality, it’s Lexus
Hi have you gotten your LC yet? I submitted a Bespoke build for a coupe in Ultrasonic blue with carbon door scuff and roof two weeks ago. I am waiting for Lexus to accept my order.
Excellent review. If you like sports cars, the Porsche is the car to buy. If you prefer a sports sedan, the Lexus is a great choice. Either way you can’t go wrong. Thanks.
one is a sports car - the other is a sporty luxury car. Both very good at doing what they intended to do and be. You want to go auto-crossing, do track days and drive a car that translate the road feel to your hands, feet and ass - there's a clear choice. If you want to be comfortable and not deal with the side effect of performance equipment (brake chatter, road noise, stiff ride) in a sporty looking car - there's a clear choice.
Here to read every love letter to LC500. Thanks.
I am 61 and can drive my 2023 911 Carrera hours at a time. LC500 maybe a comfortable highway cruiser but it is not a road performer like the 911. If you seek plush interstate ride, you should get a large comfortable sedan.. Not a wanna be sport car..
I drive a Lexus and am a Lexus guy, but I love Porsche also, I’ll put in simple terms, if I had the money I’d have both end of discussion.
Yup and I’m an old guy. I’ll stick with my LC500 Convertible 🏖️
I am in my mid 30. I would take the lexus over the Porsche. The Lexus is a beauty.
That’s exactly it is. Thanks. I think that man is more of a fun boy.
Spot on! 100 percent correct.
I’ve seen some going for 70k might pick one up next year
The LC500 is stunning in every angle.
I recently bought a 2020 Lexus GS350F sport and have no regrets
I was a Porsche mechanic back in the 70s absolutely loved them! But after driving the LC500 Lexus is very special, just makes you smile every time you take one out for a test drive.
I am reading down to see if anyone rate lc500 like me. Honestly that guy is just biased. Lc500 has lots of better things over that Porsche.

A man with great tastes in his garage 👌
When you compare these cars 30 yrs later, 30 yrs old 992 911 will remain much more desirable. Just like a 1992 911 is today..
On point 💯
@@PC-xj2mw A Toyota 2000GT is still a desirable car. I'm not sure I'd agree that a 992 911 will be more desirable in 30 years than an LC500. The LC500 will be much more rare and be an NA V8, the 911 in general is will be desirable but I'm not sure what sets that apart from any other 911.
@@hamsterbrigade LC500 is not a design icon.. It doesn't have a 911 lineage from the 50s.. Overall design of 911 will never get old.
I have a 21 Lexus LC500, and all I can say is I love her! Like most, the infotainment system is not my favorite, but her smooth styling and drive makes it such a small detail.
How is maintenance? Do you daily it or is it your weekend car?
@James Humphrey She's my daily show off! I drive her everywhere and park her away from everyone. Maintenance has only been the routine 5000-mile stuff. The rims get dirty real quick though so body detailing is a constant.
@@dianatorres831 Thanks! I was concerned about the reliability aspect but it seems most owners have little/no issues. Might pick one up next year now.
@James Humphrey You bet! Are there faster cars? Sure, but something about the unique and classy look just sets her apart. At the very least, take one for a test drive.

The one built in Japan.
Where was nothing said about maintenance
@@thomasbroderick7999 do engineers not think about that? Seems the case.

Damn milo, you rich 🤑
To me, the interior of the LC is the best i have seen, in any coupe. It is elegant.
lexus hands down.
i see porches everywhere, lexus is a treat to see on the road
As an LC500 owner first I have to say” thanks for the video!”
Porsche is a great car, but not I was looking for.
Wow, thanks!
He compares the two cars but only has one car there! lol
LC500 for the win. Just need to be patient with the build time. Took 10 months for my LC500, but worth the time.
Well I made my choice and got a 22 Inspiration series…absolutely love it👍😊
@@chriszilar3657 Enjoy your LC. Im a Lexus/Toyota owner too (not LC) and i loved them. I was just saying Porsches are very reliable and they can be very customizable. Both very different cars for different purposes i would say.
Totally agree. 👍
The guy in the video denied it’s right of design to shine. He is stuck in the past. I am here to read love letters for Lc500. Thanks.
Great review. I am torn between the two. Leaning towards the LC500
Thank you! They are both great cars but certainly the Lexus LC gets more attention since it's rare.
Yeah, the LC grabs the attention of people like a super-car. Be prepared if you don't like interacting with people! lol
I have been looking for a white version. What year and mileage?
Porsche with similar equipment will cost 50% more. Lexus beats it in every category except driving performance. Porsches are everywhere but the LC is a work of art on wheels.
Really loved this video!! Thank so much for making it! I was actually cross shopping a 911 against an LC500 a year back but went with the LC500 in the end. They are both wonderful cars and I would be happy with either but the LC500 is just that extra special, with that full-of-character NA V8. The sound that engine makes alone won me over
P.S you also can't beat having a car built by takumi in motomachi!!
Thank you!
Have my LC for more than 2 years, and I enjoy driving this beauty every single day! I have goosebumps every time I start the engine :p
Especially with the infrared exterior under the sun, no other car turns heads like the LC500. I love the LC500 at first sight. I'm sure the Porsche drives well, but the design is never my cup of tea.
I have the infrared paint color also. The Porsche is too common, the LC500 is very seldom seen on the road, a real head turner.

One is about 250 to 275,000 David this video was FANTASTIC, the quality of information that you give is top notch like the way the Takumi craftsman build the LC 500 the best of the best of the best I can’t wait for the day when you hit 1 million subscribers and I think by the time you hit the ceiling you’ll be up with SCOTTY KILMER with over 5 million subscribers that’s what I think and I know it will happen… You just have a wealth of quality information to share with people and they are going to remember that by purchasing the vehicles you recommend and they’re going to have that feeling for the rest of their lives that’s a beautiful thing I think

Reliability Porsche beat Toyota from 2018 to 2022. Fit a finish 911 are second to none and the 911 style is classic timeless.
I appreciate that!
I will choose the LC500 any day and time. I owned one, and boy what a car.
I love both of these cars but i would probably want to own the lexus LC, but its close.
Thnx.

These two happen to be my favorites, I own LC now, looking forward to owning 992 generation in the future
Very interesting comparison and very fair and objective assessments of both excellent vehicles!

Porsche is so stiff to drive. You can feel the bumps even on road divider. Seat is not comfortable for longer driving. I sold my Porsche because of this and bought a LC500.

Owned many Lexus. Long term reliability and maintenance. Lexus all the way.
Watched this again. I have the Porsche Panamera E-hybrid and the LC 500 convertible. Great combination, tend to do more daily driving in the Panamera on all electric.
Im not rich. I had to choose between the Lexus RC-F and Porsche Boxster S. I went with the Lexus for the luxury and V8.
Can’t go wrong with a Lexus especially reliability & value 👍
Where can I find the footage from 1:18
There will always be 911s but LC500 is one of a kind...end of an era NA V8 rwd.
Have u made ur mind up yet?
@@ljc1821 Yes, it will the be Lexus
Thanks for this very informative review.
Please review the LC convertible and the 2023 Mercedes SL 55 version
Were I in the market for a six figure car, I would have to have one (at least!) of each…
ps: excellent, thoughtful content; much appreciated…
Smart and accurate review:)! I'm in the market cross shopping both these vehicles and totally agree with your acessment. Undecided! Thank you!
Thank you and best wishes in your decision!
Hi, I’m buying the 2024 Lexus Lc 500 and want to know which ones are you recommend between coupe and convertible? And why?
Thank you in advance!
Tough choice but easy answer. One of each. 911 cabriolet and LC500 coupe. Problem solved.
Good answer!
Other way around. LC is more of a grand tourer so drop top with extra weight is ok. Definitely want torsional rigidity on a track 911.
Love the switch backs scene!
Great video David .. thank you 🙏🏼
Great comparison! Only gripe would be that the LC500 interior is top of its class
Keep in mind that although maintaining a LC500 will most likely be cheaper than a 911, but don't be expecting to pay Corolla maintenance bills on the LC500.
porsche also for AWD
Great review
What about the cost of maintenance?
Great review, in my humble opinion the interior of the LC is far superior than the 911. LC feels just wonderful. A+ in ergonomics from Lexus. 911s a
Have never been as comfortable.
Both are equally great sports cars but I personally prefer the LC500. Can’t go wrong with either one.
Wanna bet? You can go really wrong with a Porsche. Some people have to learn the hard way.
@@fontking1a how??
If there is something that an LC500 can not be called is a sports car. Its clearly a Grand Tourer.
@@treybyrd3332 They are expensive to maintain and unreliable. You will realize the first time something goes wrong. Parts and labor have to be factored in unless you simply don't care about money. The electronic components are garbage and they will fail. Do a little research. Join a Porsche Group of Fan Club. Best of luck.
@@fontking1a welp i would get the ext warranty on it. also i love AWD and unfortunately there is no lc500 with AWD
LC500 is my choice!
I am waiting for Lexus to accept my order.
how about a comparison between the lc500 and mercedes sl55/63 ?
Excellent review. If you like sports cars, the Porsche is the car to buy. If you prefer a sports sedan, the Lexus is a great choice. Either way you can’t go wrong. Thanks.
Thank you for your comments!
Can you also compare the Lexus with the AMG 63 Convertible?
Didn't know Jackie Chan was doing car reviews now 😂😂😂
There's no comparing these cars. They are so different and I can't imagine any customer cross shopping these.
one is a sports car - the other is a sporty luxury car.
