Own a Defender 110, it’s got character and no problems so far. 48,000 mile 5 year bumper to bumper warranty. Why worry? It looks great and it drives great, on and off road.
@@JTSLJR I’d worry about the 49,000 mark on ODO 😄 in all seriousness, if you buy cars every few years, then who cares, but if you keep long-term…maintenance will be an issue & $$$$$
I looked at both of these. Land Rover dealer is across the street from the Toyota dealer where I live. I was initially looking only at the Defender. My wife and I walked around the LR lot for 20 minutes while the salesmen ignored us. Finally cornered one, told him I'd like to look at the Defenders on the lot. He said they all had QR codes on the windshield that I could scan if I wanted to know the price. Spent another 20 minutes scanning windshields and wandered over to a Range Rover Sport that my wife liked. Another salesman came out of the showroom to tell us the Sport was already sold, and then went back in without asking if he could help us with anything else. At the time, I hadn't really looked to much into the Land Cruiser, but saw one across the street. Walked over to look at it, salesman came out, started telling me about it. I was initially put off by the 4 cylinder engine, but the salesman encouraged me to test drive it and I found I really liked it. He showed me his out the door price, but put no further pressure on us. I took his card and he asked merely that I get back in touch when I was ready to buy. That experience shifted my attention to the Land Cruiser. Further research indicated it would have better resale value, and compared to some of the horror stories I read about Land Rover, better reliability in the short and long term. I already owned a 2007 Tundra with 257K miles, so I ultimately felt like the Land Cruiser was the better option for a vehicle I plan to diver for the next decade. Ultimately bought one from a different dealer who offered $3K below sticker, but the difference between the dealership experience is what started me towards the Land Cruiser. I'm now thankful that the Land Rover dealers were such jackasses, because I now have 2500 miles on my Land Cruiser and really like it.
LR dealers in the UK are just as bad. I speak from experience. We went to a main LR dealer in Lewes in Sussex, England with the intention of possibly buying a Defender. I asked the only person we could find, aged about 12, and they told us to look around the car park outside. It was raining. You couldn't tell which car was sold or which was new. We left and bought another brand.

I have 86,000 miles on my Defender P400. The only thing I would absolutely disagree with this review is that the Defender does not handle well. It’s an absolute monster on the track. Surprisingly very little body roll ,very tight steering and driver feedback. I never thought i would say this but it handles every bit as good as my sport .and then there’s off-road,it’s simply amazing.ive owned many cars in my life and hands down this is the best vehicle i have ever owned.
The Defender isn't meant to be on a the track, want to hug curves, get the two door or a Ranger Rover Sport. My Defender handles so well, smooth and drives great on the road (maybe because of the air suspension?). Btw its also a P300, but it doesn't drive or sound like a 4 cylinder. I love it so much. Edit: Btw congrats on 86,000 miles! May you have 1000's of more reliable miles.
Agree 100%. I think David is a little biased when he compares Toyota with other brand. I’ve personally know a lady cannot stand new LC rough handling and traded in at 3000 miles. Then move back to unibody suv
Owned a 2023 Defender 90 for 15 months now and love it, not a single issue with it. Really like the new Land Cruiser style, wish they offered a 2 door like the Defender. One thing I really love about the Defender is I have only ever seen 5 other 90"s in the 15 months of ownership and only average seeing 1 4 door a week in that time. It's nice having something unique.
@ I've only had a chance to take it off road once and not on the most difficult trails and it did fine. I definitely got looks out there on those trails, not sure if the guys there had ever seen a Land Rover there before. In the snow it has been great, a lot better than my old two door Wranglers that would move around a lot more in snow the Defender stays straight. The Defenders are nice but they are expensive. My sales man told me you pay for exclusivity and he was right, you just don't see many especially compared to Jeeps and Broncos.
My wife has a Defender and I am surprised how much I like it. It is a lot more capable than I expected, as a regular pickup truck buyer that just traded my 2018 Tundra for a new Ram Rebel. Nice review!
I've owned Land Rover and body on frame Toyota's, and I worked for Toyota for 21 years in South Africa, you simple cannot beat the reliability, dependibilty, durability and ruggedness of the Toyota, its miles ahead. Landover has far too many ECM's, and other gadgets to go wring, air compresses, etc. And when things break, your bank balance breaks with it.
David, The Defender has 3 advantages: a) It offers a 2 door model b) It has a 40/20/40 second row c) The spare tire is mounted on the tailgate as it should be on any SUV. Hino does a fine job of building Prados as they have done for many years. Sadly, this generation has so far dropped the best 2 door model as well as the tailgate mounted spare and the 150 litre fuel capacity that came with it. Toyota's deletion of the 40/20/40 second row in the Land Cruiser (and 4Runner) is inexplicable and inexcusable. To end on a positive note in the Prado's favour, some lucky markets still get the 2TR-FE engine and that is something the Defender will never have. 🤩🤩
Your concluding comments are spot on. I’ve ridden in a defender and own the Asian version Land Cruiser, ‘The Prado”. The Defender is definitely more upscale and luxurious. The Toyota isn’t as upscale but it balances off by its reliability, and after getting used to its size, I’m finding it fun to drive.
David, this is an interesting comparison! I year leased a Defender, when they were still relatively new, just out of curiosity to see if all the hype was real and a unibody SUV could really be as good, off road. I was able to have it simultaneously with my 4Runner, so have an excellent basis for comparison. I can honestly say I loved just about everything about the Defender, on road and interior. It was the Defender inspired my desire to want a modern replacement for my 4Runner that had luxury interior and modern technology, but was body-on-frame, with solid rear axle, for the added articulation that I need. So my year with that Defender 100% inspired my eventual purchase of the GX550 lol. Defender would be chef's kiss perfect, if it were body-on frame, with an articulating solid rear axle. Toyota is also putting iconic names on improper platforms, to make money off the name (looking at you BMW Supra lol). Ultimately, I need a 4x4 able to get through some of the more technical trails that I had to avoid with the Defender, while exploring, so I'll always want the added articulation of a rear solid axle. Other than that very rare extreme use scenario that only 1% of owners will encounter, I really love the Defender and highly recommend it! 😊 Thanks again!
@@lunamaria1048 So how do you like the GX550? I enjoy mine, now with 7000 miles on it. Not happy with the seat cushions or the fake leather though, especially at the price point.
There was nothing engineering in this review. Everything was based on subjective opinion, even the ridiculous measurement of the gaps. The 100 times mentioned monocoque and body on frame construction was not proven with any stiffness numbers. It looks more like a hidden advertisement for Toyota to me. Please, in the future, do not write "Engineering" in the title.
Thank You for your Videos. I have a LR2 /Freelander 2 with over 300,000 Miles on it. I change oil every 3k Miles and replace parts as needed. Most of all, I drive it like it is Transportation and not a Race Car so Parts do nor wear out as quickly.
The defender is built to be a luxury car and be kept until just before the warranty expires. The Toyota is a vehicle that has better reliability and dependability than a LR and can be kept beyond its warranty period.
@@Βόρειο_Σέλας sure! There are tons of Discovery 3 and 4 on the road and new Toyota aren’t what they used to be. Land Rover increased quality control with the new vehicles and Toyota is dropping the ball.
@@stop_lying_bro that has been true in the past but a lot of people are questioning that with this new generation. If the LC had a NA V6 it would be a more valid point. The LC arguably has a less reliable power train now that it's new and it's paired with a hybrid system. The Defenders engine has been out for a while and it's simpler being non hybrid. Hopefully the LC proves to worthy of it's name.
It feels like he purposely left out a lot of negatives about the LC and positives from the Defender. LC is nice I have to admit but for the money, the Defender is the better vehicle.
@ very true and you can get a 130 if you need even more space! I’ve recently heard some reviews from people who have owned a LC for months now and they say there are a lot of rattles and the hood flops and vibrates at speed.
We got outback extensively & unfortunately , it's only Toyota that gives piece of mind for that durability & reliability to get home again. Both Landrover & Jeep are terribly over represented on the backs of recovery trucks , & have to go back to cities for their lengthy repair times....a really expensive drama.
I was shopping for a new off road / daily driving SUV and have never owned a Toyota or. Land Rover. I love the Land Rover look and luxury but reviews on line and from friends and family who have owed both said Toyota for reliability and cost. I have noticed the same punchiness with my land cruiser that I’ve owned for six months now and learned from another reviewer that if you drive it in Eco mode in the city, you won’t have that punchiness when stepping on the gas. Put it normal or sport mode for outside/ off-road city driving. Love my Land cruiser so far (after turning off some of the alarms lol).
Love these vids. I own the new LC and we have been a Range Rover family up until that time. The defender is worlds better inside and I think they are even on and off-road (from other videos). What made the difference for me is the insane expense to fix and maintain and Range Rover. The Toyota will last longer and cost way way less to keep going-that made my choice easy.
Good work, David. I have the LC FE, just like yours. Drove The old school Land Cruiser for 14 years and loved that. The 2024 is not as solid as the old LC but the off road system is better and fuel economy is great. I had money down on a Defender but couldn’t get past the poor reliability. Land Rover continues to be at the bottom of the JD Powers reliability index.
Former Lexus GX 460 owner I currently drive a 2024 Defender 110. I love Lexus (Toyota), but I'm never going back. Both ride great but the Land Rover just feels more luxurious. I've only had the vehicle since May 24 I'm currently at 6000 miles with (4) 3 plus hour road trips so far no issues to report. I also purchased the extended warranty just in.
Decent review; however, if you're talking drive quality it's a little unfair to compliment one over the other when the LC that was tested in this video appears to have aftermarket wheels and tires, giving it a wider stance which would affect the driving significantly when it comes to the body roll and cornering mentioned. The LC has been said to have significant body roll and drive clumsy with stock wheels and tires that have a larger sidewall. The LR appears to have stock options included on the vehicle tested. Just surprised to see this from an engineer's perspective.
All of my comments about my Land Cruiser is based on my experience driving it BEFORE I changed the wheels (which happened recently). So the video shows the vehicle with new wheels and tires, my comments are based on the Land Cruiser with the standard wheels and tires.
@@AutomotivePress Noted, didn't catch that mentioned in the video that the tires were changed AFTER the opinion being based off the original impressions which wouldn't have raised that thought as a viewer.
I have the previous generation LC 150. Bought it brand new just over 2 years ago. And out of the 4 cars I own, this gets used the most for long journeys, and short too. I have also customised it to suit my like and needs. While the new 250 series looks nice, I would not buy it as it doesn't offer anything more than my current car. Here in Japan it comes with exactly the same 2.8L diesel engine. A well proven engine. Not sure I would want the new smaller hybrid engine. We dont get that here so the LC250 doesnt lose boot space. That LR also looks very nice, but given their reputation I would certainly go with the LC if I were in the market to swap my 150 series, which I am not.
Recent Top Gear off-road test on RUclips: Land Cruiser 250, Ineos, G-wagen and Defender. Worth noting the LC was handicapped by the grim 200bhp turbodiesel we have to endure in Europe - and it still won: 1 LC 2= G-wagen & Ineos 4 Defender
Toyota has completely lost its way... Land Rover is making an aggressive comeback. The fit and finish in the Land Rover is leagues ahead of the Plasticky Toyota Toy... The engine offering in the Land Rover is also Top Tier the 3.0l V6 and 5.0l and 4.4l V8s are insane. Fuel economy is neck and neck and considering the Land Rover can Tow 2200 lbs more and is a far more luxurious ride. There really is no comparison. Especially not now given all the quality control issues Toyota has been having.
@colinrichards3012 both - marketing has become out of touch... trying to sell vehicles for considerably more than what they are worth... very similar to how Jeep went. Quality wise Toyota has seen major catastrophic problems with engines and transmission. Not to mention several others that cross several of their models.
@JonLucy_downunder I mean in terms of price, design, powertrain etc... And, from South Africa, we agree....For mom taking kids to school (in the city), I suppose a Defender will do... for the bush, only Cruiser will do
What is the interior color of the LC called - Boring Gray? For a second I thought you were filming in monochrome (6:41). If I was going to spend money on a LC it would be a 200 series V8, because those vehicles felt special and the engine was bomb proof. This new one feels less special than a TRD Pro 4 Runner because the bean-counters are involved.. Also these new LC's have had main bearing failures. You sir, are the only reviewer on the internet who calls a 4 banger, underpowered and overweight LC, sporty!! LOL Get out of here, the Defender would eat it for dust on the track. Oh, and you don't need a grab handle to get into the Defender, the air suspension will lower upon entry if you set it. I like both of these vehicles, but for me the Prado LC is too much an exercise in penny-pinching compared to the 200/300 Series - the true LC kings.
The Defender in Tasman blue, with the 5 spoke silver wheels is the best looking SUV on the road by a wide margin. As far as reliability? That's another issue altogether!
Land cruisers have problems too. They rattle, things break, & loads of recalls. I have a 300 series. It's OK but I've had as much trouble with it as with my Disco 2+3 & Ranger Rover sport.
I am owner of LC 250, pure diesel, luxury variant. My last car was Landcruiser 200 v8 year 2013. Now In comparison it feel I am now driving a Yaris. I used before that Landcruiser 100vx. Few things: it does not feel powerful, it concumes a lot of fuel. My LC spent 8l/100 km in even long range driving. My LC 200 spent 12l/100 km. It was a bit if a shock to find out that LC 250 is always in front drive and spend 12l/100 km in even long range tours. In city driving is a average 14l/100 albeit cold weather. When you keep panorama window clovered the space between the glass and cover collect moister and water. There are lots of positive things but I regret very much having sold my 11 years old LC 200 and wish I known more binbeforehand more about LC250. I trusted Toyota too much. sold my LC 200 0:20 months before the new LC arrived so I had limited options. Living in Iceland with a lot of snow and difficult roads in the inerior of Iceland, any LC is a better option than any other SUV and Defender would by far behind Bronco or GMC. An LC is in huge majority of SUV in Iceland. Still, I am dissapointed.
I drove a new Land Cruiser (US hybrid model) and for US$80K I was unimpressed. I did a long test drive on two-lane and Interstate as well. The acceleration was disappointing, given its supposed specs. I stepped back into my old 2017 V6 Honda Ridgeline and was immediately happier - better ride, smoother acceleration and best of all - paid for :-) Not every day you can save $80K
My friend flexes his 24 Defender; he is so happy he purchased his dream car. I'm happy for him too. 3 months later, I catch him rides in a different car. I find out his car is in the shop due to electronic computers system and transmission making some noise.... I give him a gentle smile and say " YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR.... " YOU KNOW WHAT I MEAN.....😏😏 After that, we don't talk anymore!! 😅
I saw that when I was researching Defenders. I usually don't buy extended warranty and things like that but I did get the wind shield insurance for my D90 with the heated wind shield. 15 months in no problems with it.
Was in the auto repair and parts industry for 15 years. When I talk to them, land Rover, still plagued with electronic and mechanical issues. Tata group (I think that's who owns them) still using Chinese parts. If you want high tech cool car, land Rover is great, as long as you don't kind maintenance costs that are insane. Toyota quality is is catching up but dependability is dropping. Engine getting iffy, hybrid systems are still great but cost is creeping up. I don't know about these new turbo 6 and 4s. Just bring back the no nonsense 35k land cruisers. That you can modify and run into the ground
I think this is down to where you live. In the US I’d go for the Toyota as it can cope with the climate and roads. The LR fanboys in the UK will of course vote defender because it barely leaves the motorway or maybe a wet field and if you break down you aren’t gonna be a days drive from someone… ;) I sold my Defender for a profit bc the demand was so high. My LC is on pre-order still. Daily is an L460 RR.
Doesn’t Toyota have a huge quality issue with new engines ? Also, of course our have the right to your opinion, but there is no comparison. Materials quality is Toyota is incredibly cheap. Not sure where you felt the soft materials in the Toyota. The whole door is hard plastic as is the dash. The ride is also incomparable. The defender rides AND handles much better. The Toyota rides like a brick. I have driven both and decided with the defender as it is overall much more refined. I was impressed with the Toyotas off-roading capabilities. Nice job in all your reviews.
Yes, I had wanted to buy a 2024 Land Cruiser, but honestly, they are rarer than hen's teeth. I wanted one now, and not in three years time. So I saved 30K and bought myself a one year old Defender 110 a couple of months ago. It's fantastic and looking forward to lots of adventures in 2025!
In the UK, Land Rover has loads of style and is popular with wealthy mummies married to mortgage slave husbands. Toyota has all the cachet of a washing machine but is arguably more reliable.
Parts of US and Continental Europe have the same attitude, it's funny how it starts changing the more you move towards countries where long distance dependability and off-road capability becomes huge benefit (Eastern Europe, Balkan region, Southeast Asian countries, South America, Middle-East, Africa, Australia, etc..). The attitude switches and Land Cruiser isn't seen as appliance but as status/statement of robustness and capability. As avid traveller and car camper, I sometimes see new Defender in camps but it looks wrong, just off somehow. While it looks great in the photo next to that medieval estate, among outdoor crowds in muddy hiking boots, torn down jackets it doesn't blend no matter how off-road they made it look.
In the U.S., Land Rover / Range Rover are leased by flashy people who are in debt to their eyebrows on everything they own. They, however, believe they are impressing everyone while not having any actual wealth. Land Cruiser owners, on the other hand, typically pay cash for their Land Cruisers and own them for some time. The Land Cruiser name is very highly respected and is considered a subtle high end luxury SUV owned by stealth wealth.
@@user-yl9vs9eh1w it’s funny; I feel it’s exactly the other way around; All Land Cruisers and the few Wranglers I see are indeed mall crawlers and soccer mums. The new Defender is used more as farm vehicle - especially the more affordable Hard Top version / commercial vehicles. They are way cheaper than Land Cruisers due the tax relieve on hard top models. Toyota don’t make these rugged commercial vehicles.
Here in Western Australia Toyota and Ford Ranger are sought after what ever versions ,but I am statring to see a stack of the new Defenders on the roads locally but the are so damned expensive here very rarely under $100.000 even second hand as well as the Cruisers. Both of these vehicles used prices are staying high due to the demand for both.
Interesting video dude……. But the Land Cruiser is running 1960’s technology!!!! The original Range Rover had an independent chassis and coil springs with a steel rod to hold up the bonnet!!! The new Defender has air suspension and numerous off roading options that are electronic, hence you can customise your drive…. Land Rover has decided to use technology….., Toyota has stayed old school!!!! Let the battle begin!!!! Regards Ian 👨🎤🇳🇿👍🍸🍸
My wife made me fork over $70 grand for a 2020 Defender 110 P400 SE and I could have used it to shore up my business. Talking about my old LR3 didn't do it for her anymore. Dames!
Light of good points but the complaint about the Land Cruiser acceleration was unclear... Not sure it's a complaint heh Prefer the Defender but it's reusability issues is a deal breaker because i worked be looking at the OCTA Defender.. Which isn't worth it for a"grocery getter" heh... The AcurMDX Tries S should be considered in this price range
Let’s be honest, there is almost zero engineering insight into your videos. Almost nothing quantitative, just a viewpoint. Absolutely no different to any other poor to avg reviewer car reviewer on YT. Savage Geese is still the daddy
The defender isn't reliable and the other one has power but seems to work hard to move around because of the small engine. Both I would not buy. The lexus gx is totally fine but Toyota has some work to do to make it worthy of the former Toyota drivetrain. I'm confident Toyota will get there with the V6 but they know they messed up which is why the former CEO had to formally apologize
I trust Japanese build quality, driving Mitsubishi Pajeros for 34 years now. The Landcruiser would be my choice. But in my country, the Netherlands, the government is concerned about the energy-transition. That is why, we have to pay extreme taxes according to CO2 output of the engine. So, a Defender 110 PHEV costs here 90.000 euros, which is a bargain, and a new Landcruiser (only available with diesel engine) costs 180.000 euros !!! 😳 You can buy 2 Defenders, and have one for spareparts 😄, for the price of one Landcruiser ! This makes the decision which to buy easy......
My LC has 320K Miles, no problem. I had a Range Rover (Different LR) and was always in the shop. Toyota reliability is no comparison. There is a saying among 4x4 nuts, you want to go to a real 4x4 adventure, take a Defender. You want to come back from that trip in the same vehicle, take the LC.
My 1994 LC has 290,000 miles on it and I have had 7 Toyota vehicles. Up until my 2022 Tundra they all were great. I had an engine grenade at 45K, replaced with dealer replaced short block. I have had multiple seat parts break (I weigh 170 pounds), plastic parts fall off and multiple other issues. I realize the Tundra is American made, but I think the bigger problem Toyota is resting on its laurels. After calling Toyota's national support multiple times, I think asking questions at a McDonald's drive through would have been more productive.
In regard to a Defender I actually would consider on used with low miles. I don’t think I would drive it much past the car aging 10 years or 100,000. miles. The Toyota would obviously go on forever.
Ok I am missing something. These are both 4wd and not SUV. I was expecting off road test not a luxury car test. With this test you could have compared a Cadillac in the mix and it will at the same level. I will tell you now, fitting a bull bar and winch on the defender is not possible, where on the landcruiser it is, ( ARB and TJM already have already done the development work ). If you are buying a 4wd and only using it as a car , in my opinion you brought the wrong car for your needs.

Yours may have air suspension vs his.
Is your comment on handling based on a drive setting mode like comfort vs sport?
Owned a 2023 Defender 90 for 15 months now and love it, not a single issue with it. Really like the new Land Cruiser style, wish they offered a 2 door like the Defender. One thing I really love about the Defender is I have only ever seen 5 other 90"s in the 15 months of ownership and only average seeing 1 4 door a week in that time. It's nice having something unique.
Defender 90's are definitely the unicorn's of the road. Everytime I see one I have to turn my head.
How is it off road?
@ I've only had a chance to take it off road once and not on the most difficult trails and it did fine. I definitely got looks out there on those trails, not sure if the guys there had ever seen a Land Rover there before. In the snow it has been great, a lot better than my old two door Wranglers that would move around a lot more in snow the Defender stays straight.
The Defenders are nice but they are expensive. My sales man told me you pay for exclusivity and he was right, you just don't see many especially compared to Jeeps and Broncos.
Definitely the DEFENDER for me !
Definitely Defender, own one for a year, 20k miles, not a single issue, love it. Get a better engine, mine does 0-60 in 5.6
Let me know your experience when if has done 500k kms. Yes, Toyotas do that easily. Don't forget to mention how many engines it's had!
@ I can afford to change 5 cars in that time. Tech is advancing so fast, why would I keep the same car for 10-15 years ? Every 3 years, get new one
@@elbekmusinov2968 You do like to waste your money.
Affording to change a car every 3-4 years, is not waste. Life is too short to drive one car forever
I make 6 digit figure annually, not buying lambos or rolls Royce,
My wife has a Defender and I am surprised how much I like it.
You mean Toyota Land cruiser Better than Deffender
Own a 110 defender for 4 years no problem with it and most importantly serviced every six months 😊
David, The Defender has 3 advantages: a) It offers a 2 door model b) It has a 40/20/40 second row c) The spare tire is mounted on the tailgate as it should be on any SUV.
Hino does a fine job of building Prados as they have done for many years. Sadly, this generation has so far dropped the best 2 door model as well as the tailgate mounted
spare and the 150 litre fuel capacity that came with it. Toyota's deletion of the 40/20/40 second row in the Land Cruiser (and 4Runner) is inexplicable and inexcusable. To end
on a positive note in the Prado's favour, some lucky markets still get the 2TR-FE engine and that is something the Defender will never have. 🤩🤩
Those are minor quirks that a majority of buyers really don’t care for. The vehicle is is in high demand and Toyota knows the market.
I ❤ LC
I have a LC. Couldn’t car less about 40/20/40, hate the look/functionality of having the spare mounted on the tailgate and 2 door SUVs are gross
When it comes to looks, there is no contest. The Defender 90 in particular, just looks awesome.
Land cruiser for me, i believe in Toyota quality
So do I
Defender. Period. Thanks for the vid, tho - very well done (from another automotive engineer).
@@MPC-dude hold that thought on reliability for LC, they aren’t old enough to judge that but the new Defender has also been reliable….
Thanks again!
Would like to see you do a GX550 Overtrail v Land Cruiser video
Thank You for your Videos. I have a LR2 /Freelander 2 with over 300,000 Miles on it. I change oil every 3k Miles and replace parts as needed. Most of all, I drive it like it is Transportation and not a Race Car so Parts do nor wear out as quickly.
Great comparison David !!!! Thank you !!!!!
I appreciate your honesty and straightforward analysis comparing these two. I think you made the wise choice.💯 17:47
Thanks Gary!
@@stop_lying_bro I did hear the same and drive a 2013 Defender myself.
The Toyota fanboys will hear no negativity on the LC and will always bang on about reliability of any LR product.. confirmation bias reigns supreme!
It feels like he purposely left out a lot of negatives about the LC and positives from the Defender. LC is nice I have to admit but for the money, the Defender is the better vehicle.
It definitely wins in the cargo space category. Thats one of the biggest turn offs with the LC is the lackluster design of the battery and the cargo.
@ very true and you can get a 130 if you need even more space! I’ve recently heard some reviews from people who have owned a LC for months now and they say there are a lot of rattles and the hood flops and vibrates at speed.
@@stop_lying_bro sadly that sounds all too familiar with us Defender owners, minus the hood vibrating.
Ive had my land cruiser for 150 miles and i absolutely love love love it!!!!!
GX550 Overtrail vs Defender, please!
I see your tires are not the normal stock ones, What size did you upgrade to? And what is the ET on theme??
They are sharp looking. I want them on mine
Defender has better balance, more space, LC has more nose dive and it transfer a lot more into the cabin
Good work, David. I have the LC FE, just like yours. Drove
The old school Land Cruiser for 14 years and loved that. The 2024 is not as solid as the old LC but the off road system is better and fuel economy is great. I had money down on a Defender but couldn’t get past the poor reliability. Land Rover continues to be at the bottom of the JD Powers reliability index.
Nice video David. Any news on when Toyota will release info on upcoming Land Hopper/Mini Land Cruiser?
I would never spend soo much money to drive a Toyota, a car that everybody on the streets own
Dave, any news on the Land Cruiser FJ? I'm patiently waiting for one. :)
In the Defender you have option in the settings on PIVI to change how the steering wheel give u feedback.
How did you find out which plant built your land cruiser? Can you tell from the VIN?
The LC needs the 6 cylinder diesel 3.0 used in the LC 300 .
Do you have any predictions on when Toyota will do a mid cycle refresh on the Tundra and what improvements they might do?
Worth noting the LC was handicapped by the grim 200bhp turbodiesel we have to endure in Europe - and it still won:
1 LC
2= G-wagen & Ineos
4 Defender
Very bad testing from Top Gear..
That review was terrible btw it was so biased.
Depreciation of the Landcruiser also will be steep . New cars are just to expensive.
Thank you David!! Your videos are always high quality 🔥🔥🔥
@@dreday010186 Do you mean marketing, or reliability?
@colinrichards3012 both - marketing has become out of touch... trying to sell vehicles for considerably more than what they are worth... very similar to how Jeep went.
Quality wise Toyota has seen major catastrophic problems with engines and transmission. Not to mention several others that cross several of their models.
lol
I still love my Defender but if I had a choice, I would have chosen the Land Cruiser
For markets outside the US, the better comparison would be the Defender vs the Land Cruiser 300.
From Australia, we would never put those in the same league ever.
@JonLucy_downunder I mean in terms of price, design, powertrain etc... And, from South Africa, we agree....For mom taking kids to school (in the city), I suppose a Defender will do... for the bush, only Cruiser will do
No better comparison is Lexus gx550
Important technical question - does the Land Cruiser have sufficient towing capacity to tow the Land Rover home?
No, but the Landrover can tow the Toyota home.
The defender offers just more choices in body styles and colors and engine options. I love the Toyota but defender for me on this one.
I like defender very much
The Defender in Tasman blue, with the 5 spoke silver wheels is the best looking SUV on the road by a wide margin.
I trusted Toyota too much. sold my LC 200
0:20 months before the new LC arrived so I had limited options. Living in Iceland with a lot of snow and difficult roads in the inerior of Iceland, any LC is a better option than any other SUV and Defender would by far behind Bronco or GMC. An LC is in huge majority of SUV in Iceland. Still, I am dissapointed.
I am waiting for the 2025 4Runner. Then compare the 2025 4Runner to the Defender. Maybe the 130 and not the 110?

After that, we don't talk anymore!! 😅
All paid for under warranty no doubt.
Long time Land Rover fan. I own a 1973 Series III. However, I'm going with the Toyota Land Cruiser this time as my daily driver.
Look up Defender windshield replacements. LR needs to fix the problem
I saw that when I was researching Defenders. I usually don't buy extended warranty and things like that but I did get the wind shield insurance for my D90 with the heated wind shield. 15 months in no problems with it.
All cars face this problem, the glass is thinner for weight reduction.
@@NewDefenderP not like this. People having multiple replacements.
2025 I Take a Land Rover Defender 110 V8.
The LC250, cheaply built and overly priced
Lexus GX 550 overtrail will be better comparison. Prado doesn’t cut it
What happened to the LX600 v G Wagon requested long ago? WTH!

Defender all the way..not sure about new Toyota engine reliability either.
My wife made me fork over $70 grand for a 2020 Defender 110 P400 SE and I could have used it to shore up my business. Talking about my old LR3 didn't do it for her anymore. Dames!
Light of good points but the complaint about the Land Cruiser acceleration was unclear... Not sure it's a complaint heh

Some of the crap mentioned in the vid, is so bias. This prado 250 handles better than the defender 110 i have heard it all 😂
The defender isn't reliable and the other one has power but seems to work hard to move around because of the small engine. Both I would not buy. The lexus gx is totally fine but Toyota has some work to do to make it worthy of the former Toyota drivetrain. I'm confident Toyota will get there with the V6 but they know they messed up which is why the former CEO had to formally apologize
Still I stand with LC200, and 4Runner 5th gen
They always copy British design 😂
I trust Japanese build quality, driving Mitsubishi Pajeros for 34 years now.
The Landcruiser would be my choice.
But in my country, the Netherlands, the government is concerned about the energy-transition.
That is why, we have to pay extreme taxes according to CO2 output of the engine.
So, a Defender 110 PHEV costs here 90.000 euros, which is a bargain, and a new Landcruiser (only available with diesel engine) costs 180.000 euros !!! 😳
You can buy 2 Defenders, and have one for spareparts 😄, for the price of one Landcruiser !
This makes the decision which to buy easy......
C’mon Land Cruisers are bulletproof as are Toyota’s in general but on an even higher level. Do some research, it’s hands down the winner 🏆
There is no innovation at Toyota, and these new LC's are garbage compared to the 200/300 series.
In regard to a Defender I actually would consider on used with low miles. I don’t think I would drive it much past the car aging 10 years or 100,000. miles. The Toyota would obviously go on forever.
Big fan of Toyota but I wish they had a 6 cylinder as an option. Not a fan of a 4 cylinder even with turbo
The Toy 4 cil. Diesel engine is a crap
