    As many others have said, you're comparing a dedicated sports car to a luxury GT car. You're taking points off the LC500 for not being something it isn't trying to be. Normally I have nothing to complain about in your videos, but this one has that one BIG complaint over it. It's the equivalent of comparing the C8 to an STI on gravel and loose roads, then bashing the C8 for not doing it well even though it wasn't built for that.

Lexus is a better car for the golf crowd because those folks aren't tracking their cars. The lexus is a much better looking car... yes it's my opinion. (an opinion like this entire video comparison)
    The lexus is better looking car, better built quality, more solid frame, more reliable, better sounding, more comfortable... so yeah, if I'm getting a car in this class I don't need a car that's worse in every other way but better at landing me a speeding ticket.
    Now if I want a good handling car, I'll get a porsche. If I want a good 0-60 straight line car, I 'll get a tesla. If I want a comfortable cruiser that's balanced and great in every respect that's important... is there another car under 150k that's better than the LC500?

      Most C8 owners, as with most sportscar owners, aren't tracking their car or remotely competent with any level of high performance driving, let alone have their HPDE4. To be clear, the overwhelming majority of C8 owners will step on the gas in a straight line on the highway, goose it from a redlight, and maybe push 30-40mph on a turn if they are feeling gutsy. They have no idea how to countersteer or control the car with traction control off. My point is this- most sportscar owners live under the delusion that they can control or handle the car when they in fact can't. They'd be better off in something with a good bit of power that rides much better and has superior build quality and materials, but again, that doesn't fit their delusion so they act like they're enjoying themselves getting slammed in the ass by every bump and wet cigarette butt on the road while staring at a cheap chinese GM interior and praying that their transmission doesn't explode.

    Appreciate the review. The car is beautiful. As for the trackpad, no ADULT who owns an LC 500 uses the trackpad very much. ADULTS read the OWNER'S MANUAL and learn about VOICE COMMAND. Then, the first thing they do is run MENU/SETUP and select all their default personal preferences which takes care of 95% of EVERYTHING. Using VOICE COMMAND, they simply press a button on the left side of the steering wheel, wait for the BEEP and then TELL THE CAR WHAT YOU WANT TO DO. No trackpad involved! For instance: "press button, say "radio", say "AM 760" and the radio goes to that station. Or, press button, "say FIND, say PIZZAHUT and you get several choices, say the CHOICE NUMBER" and your GPS will guide you there. So, maybe in the future this reviewer will take 30 minutes and become familiar with the Owner's Manual so he doesn't relay false information to his audience? These are the best cars produced today but...isn't it nice to have a choice??? But, to the point of your video comparing the two cars...you can't. The Corvette is an Exotic Lamborghini Wannabe and the Lexus is a GT. The Corvette, inside and outside, is busy, busy, busy. Those people who love scoops, buttons, wings, spoilers, carbon fiber, neurotic body styling and sheer speed get to choose the C8. Those people who just want a very reliable, classy, beautiful car can select the LC. There is no wrong or right, better or worse. Chevrolet absolutely produced a car for a certain type of person and that's a good thing. The quality is superb. But, it's really not "Corvette-ish", is it? It is a great car, but you'd never know it was a Corvette if all the badging was gone and nobody told you what it was. You would think the Italians made it...100%. I've had my 1969 427/435 L-71 Corvette since 1970. It's A CORVETTE and there is no question about it. Anyone who sees it knows what it is. I've also got a 2018 LC 500, a completely different kind of car and I love it. They are both cars but totally different. I don't spend time comparing or thinking about the differences. Enjoying both for what they are is the best way to spend my time. As for ever buying a C8...probably not. I'm almost at the point in my life where driving will be a thing of the past. However, if I were younger, the C8 would be on the list but if had to choose only one, it would be the Lexus LC 500.

      Exactly. Like also like anyone who buys a Lexus could not care less about being 3 seconds faster than someone else, especially if the interior of that 3 second faster car feels like plastic and creaks. It blows my mind when I have friends who seriously will scoff at my Lexus but then love my old interior that is almost 2 decades old and feels better than their more expensive car. Or the fact that it lasts that long. When I was talking to people about how nice my grandmas new Lexus was and how I’d like to have a new one one day they scoffed at that idea and asked why I didn’t want something different. Maybe it’s just class and better tastes. Where they’d trade off a perfect interior for dumb numbers on a graph that they will never use. I will even have people I know buy a brand new hundai luxury plus what ever and then I get in it and internally feel odd because it feels like crap. Where the 4 year old Lexus es that cost 5k less like my grandmas will gap their car and feel better while doing so. Let alone last longer.

The engine and transmission are perfectly matched; the exhaust sound/induction noise is heavenly and the car provides a really fun driving experience. Well the Lexus is a much more refined vehicle but then again it cost about $15-$20,000 more. I don’t think these are two cars that should be compared though. I am a Lexus guy. I own a Lexus and I love the LC 500 convertible.
    But I think we’re comparing apples to peaches here… I bought the C8 for the same reason both reviewer‘s picked it. It’s a true sports car with more power, road feel, incredible acceleration, and if you haven’t checked one out the quality of the interior is amazing. No it’s not a Lexus but then again few cars are.

  • @Tritonal92

    This is honestly one of the weirdest comparisons I've ever seen.. The Lexus is a luxury GT cruiser, while the Chevy is a mid-engined sports car that happens to be a convertible. This whole review had nothing to do with 'golf-minded convertibles' nor was it objective at all. As someone who likes to golf and go to the track, a better comparison for a 'golf-minded convertible' would be the 8 series convertible or AMG GTC. I would personally never cross shop the C8 with the LC500 in the first place. I don't know about you, but the LC500 interior quality blows away the C8's interior, there's just no contest.

    The thing is, most people buy a sports car and barely utilize its capability. They act like it matters, they talk like it matters, they shop for cars as if it matters, but then they buy the car and they drive to work and back (or golf and back) on nice days and the most sporty they get is when they floor it at a light or they rev it a bit. The Lexus can do that just fine. The Lexus is sporty enough to be fun for what 95% of people will actually do. If you ignore the aspects of sportiness that 95% of people will barely ever notice or care about (except when they're originally shopping for the car) then what matters is everything else. That's where the Lexus is just an amazing car. It's stunning, and its special. The Corvette is a better sports car, but it's not especially cool or special and if anything it's going to be less cool and less special over time as the novelty of a mid engine corvette wears off. The LC500 is a future classic with (I suspect) very low production numbers but relatively amazing reliability.

    • @dcsteve7869
      @dcsteve7869 3 года назад

      What matters are ride and functionality. The MRC on the C8 is superior in both. Speaking of functionality have you ever tried to use the Lexus infotainment and UI system? It's hands down the worst in the industry and routing commonly used functions through it is a frustrating experience. As for "cool and special", how many songs are written about Corvettes or mention them? How many pop culture phrases? Now how many for Lexus? The truth is there is only one cool and special Lexus and you can't get it unless you are willing to shell out nearly 7 figures for it. The C8 however is attainable and yet highly sought after and like all Corvettes will have a special place in the market.

I thought this video is a comparison to see which one is the better Golf car so with that I would expect the comparison to be based on where and how a typical golfer would drive it, not on a windy open road to it's limits. Oh yeah, I would also expect to see how each car would actually carry a set of golf clubs. Instead, all you talked about is how well each one behaves when pushed through the corners on a beautiful windy flowy stretch of open road and not a single golf bag in sight.

It doesn't have a stiff suspension, it's heavy as hell, it's not a track car, and it's average speed for a luxury GT. It's made for comfort and cruising, not hard turns and heavy acceleration. Most people/non-die hards would not want to daily drive the C8- the suspension is just too stiff (sportsmode off is barely noticeable with the dampers), whereas the LC500 rides quite smoothly. That said, Lexus infotainment sucks until they release Lexus Interface and the C8 has a low quality interior with poor button layout and shifter design (also has drivetrain issues). If price wasn't an issue and it comes down to having just one car, the majority would definitely prefer driving the LC500 after having spent significant time in both.

Maybe it's just because they're back to back and it's better than the Lexus is in those terms. I also found that the DCT was pretty jerky at low speeds, which could make it a problem for your golf runs, and might actually make the auto in the Lexus better for that. Also, I kept trying to jab the floorboard every time I came to a stop, but I know that the manual isn't coming and that's more of a me issue at this point.

I am a little obsessive about the right car for the right job. Seven for the track, Elise for mountains, TVR for touring the long way round, coupe for covering miles and a little fun, big saloon for motorway, Hilux for off-road. If you don't buy new, and look for cars with real feel (which are generally older) you would be surprised how many cars you can accumulate.

It's very easy to get addicted by the ZL1's raw power output as it seems to always be there and ready with absolute unsafe levels of torque. The Alpha chassis itself is probably one of if not the best for a sedan or coupe in the last decade. You feel what the car is doing, it rides exceptionally well across all variants. and on a roll the ATS-V is nearly dead even up to 90 where the C8 starts to pull away. The C8 however on the track is just a different level. From a standstill it's hard to beat with a proper launch. It really changes personality between modes, there is no emulation that doesn't make a difference like with some cars when you switch them from touring to sport. I can see how the C8 might seem a little boring or vague in tour mode but sport or track mode is such a wide difference and anything but boring in my opinion.

    The prices seem off though. Chevy website says the convertible starts at 90 so with 18,000 in options that would put this car at 108k compared to the Lexus 111k

    I feel like I might be the only person in the world who can't think of crossplane V8's as sportscar engines. To me, it fits perfectly that Lexus (maybe revving a bit lower) because it doesn't inspire misbehaviour to me; sounds much more like a relaxed, low-stress cruising engine. I'd have the Lexus for that. The Corvette, on the other hand... I think it would be the PERFECT supercar if it had a 3.5 - 4.0 litre version of nowadays Z06. A screaming flatplane V8 does sound like misbehaviour. Thanks for yet another marvelous video, guys!

      @@saltyfloridaman7163 first of all, using the current used market as a gauge is ludicrous. Secondly, how are those used vette interiors holding up? GM reliability is nowhere near Lexus unless you're reading corvette forums. How much is a clutch job on a C5? How about those C3 and C4 dashes? How many could put 100K on them without major electrical issues? And finally, how many corvettes will be made compared to the number of LC500's? I like the corvettes, but the LC500 will bring a far better ownership experience over the long-term

    @samaraiza Год назад +5

    I appreciate the comparison. It came down to these two cars for me and I chose to place my deposit for the 2024 LC500 Convertible over an LT3 C8 Convertible. It came down to three reasons:
    1. You can expect a Camaro or Cobalt level of customer service and care at Chevy. It reminded me of older complaints when people were buying $100k Nissan GT-Rs only to realize that they're getting Sentra levels of customer service. The clientele and agents that serve the clientele are just not worthy or equipped to service customers purchasing $100k vehicles. You'd actually get better customer service owning a $60k 718 Porsche Cayman than a $100k Corvette.
    2. The C8 is sporty but the design looks to be rather immature. It's not what you'd call a beautiful car. A bad ass-car, sure, but not pretty. In Star Wars terms, the C8 is an X-Wing, and the LC500 is a Naboo fighter (the yellow starfighters). The LC has a maturity about it that makes you feel bad ass with the engine sound. The C8 is a bad ass car that lacks maturity. Where I am in life, I want more of a James Bond experience than a Roman Pearce from Fast and the Furious kind of experience.
    3. The rear seats. This one's weird because half the reviews say they're good and the other half say they're useless. What I do know is that I can have a toddler seat back there and boom, all of a sudden the LC500 is a classy family car, and now the wife's onboard!
    While I appreciate the comparison, I don't think the criteria considered was right. If you're going to use golf as the metric, talk about the cup holders, the service quality, the build quality (I'm hearing several horror stories on FB threads concerning the C8), the fact that there are only a few thousand LCs in the U.S., but everyone and their moms seem to have a C8 now, the comfort, the A/C, not pointing the car in sharp corners-if that were the goal then a Porsche 911 would be a better candidate.

Lexus is a luxury brand who has failed repeatedly when they've tried to produce a car that performs as well as a 911, or Corvette for that matter.
