Lexus went to great lengths to make the car quiet, and this guy complains that it's too quiet. It's like driving a Ferrari and complains that it's too fast. What they say is true, never cast pearls before swine.

It's always been like this. All they care about how a car handles even though 99% of buyers never even get close to the handling limits of any car given they're going the speed limit.

That panoramic sunroof is a huge improvement of the current one. The current one has two separate covers and the back one is MANUAL (you have to slide it yourself in the back seat). This, with its one large motorized cover, is similar to the panoramic sunroof in the RX.

The ES350 vs. the ES300h is an intelligence test. Your mileage doubles. It has immediate torque. The range is like 600 miles on a tank. The cost difference is a little over 2K.
The driving dynamics for a large car are fine. Splurge and get the Mark Levinson audio. They both use 87 Octane fuel.
    The Euros demand Premium!

jak p True. But it's still a great car. It's for the people who have the money, and like the car. Even though it's a "overpriced camry". They build the these certain cars because they know people will buy them. And they also know that it's a "overpriced carmy". It just depends on what your willing to spend and like!

People just don’t get Lexus. Numerous reviewers rant on about the German being way faster, AWD, better handling, etc, etc. 0-60 times, Lap times at a track...... Lexus and their core customers don’t want that. If they did they would buy a M Series or AMG 63 engined Mercedes.
What is DIFFERENT about Lexus is they make very reliable, comfy, well specified, safe, luxurious cars with more than adequate performance for real world driving.
Remember the LFA? That was Lexus saying “Yes, we can make a sexy, fast car if we want to”. Unless you take your AMG, M series on a track, you are not going to get the benefit of it on the road, or be able to come close to using all that performance - those who try, usually end up wrapping their prized vehicle round a lamppost....

HERBERT leitner I've thought the same thing before. But when you stop and look at it's performance it's pretty darn good for it's not so lofty nunbers. You say the hybrid has a little less room - the ONLY place it has less is with regard to rear head room - 0.4" less. Otherwise, it is identical in every other way - including trunk space. Also, it may compete with the A4 and C-Class in terms of price, but the ES is far larger.

  • @56585656587

Great Review. However just one thing, I admit that the hybrid version isn't as exciting to drive than the fsport, however people who buy the hybrid, generally aren't looking for a sporty drive. They generally want a quiet and comfortable ride that doesnt require much effort. Once again, love your guy's reviews but maybe the hybrid isnt looked at for its goal maybe? just a thought

  • @dontcare563
    @dontcare563 4 года назад +2

All 3 cars are good but the actual trim level and options will decide what the best car is unless you are really set on a hybrid and getting the best gas mileage. Get a loaded up Ultra Luxury trim with all of the options. The F-Sports provides no real performance improvements since the drivetrain is exactly the same as the standard ES-350.

There's no Apple CarPlay on the 2018 Camry. Most likely on the 2019, but you'll still be missing out on feautues like rain sensing wipers, heated steering wheel, heated/cooled seats, and more. Also, exterior design is much better and probably the interior quality and design is much more appealing bc that just comes down to the buyer. Oh and you get a more advanced and smoother active safety system(like FCW, LDW and LKAS and more..).

Sorry Roman but you're wrong about Lexus Es owners wanting engine noise and road feel; for a fun car, I have a Corvette for that. I want the Lexus ES for luxury, comfort, not feel any bumps, smooth shifting, sunroof, and quiet engine. And now the 2019 gives what I wanted all along in a luxury sedan: Apple Carplay, nonboring styling and some performance 0-60 in 6.6 seconds.

So the Audi S-line and BMW M-sport (not M cars) packages offer more power, or are they also just appearance packages like the F-sport? If you're going to call out Lexus, then do the same with the Germans. Better yet, just refer to all of them for what they are: trim levels.

The ES F Sport will not compete with the Audi S line, BMW M Sport, or even the lowest tear AMG models. All of the German offerings in the same class do cost more and are faster cars, period. The BMW 3 Series, Audi 4 Series, and MB C Class are not direct competitors for the ES, they compete with the Lexus IS and are better is every aspect than the IS is.

There is so much more to cars than just being fast. The presenter is usually bias for fast European cars for some odd reason. European cars are nice, but often less reliable and more expensive to maintain than Lexus. Consumers purchase cars for different needs or values. Lexus cars give consumers a few good reasons for ownership including reliability, comfort, fuel efficiency, resale value, quality, etc. Some of these resaons along makes Lexus a solid competitor in the luxury car market. The Lexus ES is a well-rounded and solid luxury car. However, Lexus cars can use some improvements in exterior design and appeal or overall handling when compared to European cars.

For the F Sport version they seem to have taken more or less the same approach as they did with the 2010 to 2012 LS Sport Edition. I love my 2011 SE, but I think they could have changed the engine tuning to up level the power by 10 percent at least since Lexus is notorious for engineering toward long term reliability and I am sure it has more potential. But then the GDI ight be louder!

FWIW, I test drove the previous generation one after the other, and I definitely preferred the non-hybrid for quietness, because I found the whine of the regenerative braking system in the hybrid to be obnoxious. In terms of total sound "energy", the hybrid may well have emitted less, but I *preferred* the sound of the non-hybrid. Over here in Australia, we're only getting the hybrid for the new model, so I won't be able to compare the two this time. ;^)

Rakan Canada you're welcome! I am looking forward very much to test driving this new ES - we're getting it this October. I do know that they've added special sound proofing to the hybrid, to try to reduce the noise from the hybrid components - not sure whether the previous model had this treatment or not.

    • @alliejr

300 hp is not enough? This is not trying to be an M5 and 300 hp is more than most 3 series on the road. The engine is probably the best thing about this car. Smooth, quiet, powerful and it will last for 500,000 miles without trying.

Nice car I like it alot as I also like the new camry the ES sister car my only gripe about it is the fact that its a fwd with all that power. I would like to see Lexus maybe team up with subaru and use there awd system. Also I say it should also have a better exhaust system and more power on the F sport to compete with the germans.... But still a nice car however long live the GS class

The 6 is nice if they got rid of the chronic throttle lag issues. But for the mileage, I’ll take the 4 with electric motors. It motorboats a bit because of the CVT, but is smooth enough with the torque from the electric motors.

I can definitely watch this video in China~!! But sadly Lexus China doesn't offer ES350 due to higher tax on larger displacement engine cars. Lexus started to sell ES in China more than decade ago. 2019 ES in China offers 2.0L/6AT, 2.5L/8AT and 2.5 Hybrid/ECVT. And the hybrid starts at US$53K, without tax... a heart breaking price.
