Lexus went to great lengths to make the car quiet, and this guy complains that it's too quiet. It's like driving a Ferrari and complains that it's too fast. What they say is true, never cast pearls before swine.
It's always been like this. All they care about how a car handles even though 99% of buyers never even get close to the handling limits of any car given they're going the speed limit.
If you get luxury sedan you not really thinking of going to the track if I wanted that I’ll just buy a muscle car or 2 door tuner. But if I get this my next car would be electric car because by then I’m looking for a house
That panoramic sunroof is a huge improvement of the current one. The current one has two separate covers and the back one is MANUAL (you have to slide it yourself in the back seat). This, with its one large motorized cover, is similar to the panoramic sunroof in the RX.
The BEST FWD luxury car on sale that money can buy. And it will hold its value. Love the F Sport gauge cluster, LC500 seats and the LS500 steering wheel both taken from higher end cars
The ES350 vs. the ES300h is an intelligence test. Your mileage doubles. It has immediate torque. The range is like 600 miles on a tank. The cost difference is a little over 2K. The driving dynamics for a large car are fine. Splurge and get the Mark Levinson audio. They both use 87 Octane fuel. The Euros demand Premium!
jak p True. But it's still a great car. It's for the people who have the money, and like the car. Even though it's a "overpriced camry". They build the these certain cars because they know people will buy them. And they also know that it's a "overpriced carmy". It just depends on what your willing to spend and like!
He also said there was a “hint” of torque steer, which having driven one doesn’t accurately reflect the way the steering wheel will whip out of your hands if you floor it like that.
People just don’t get Lexus. Numerous reviewers rant on about the German being way faster, AWD, better handling, etc, etc. 0-60 times, Lap times at a track...... Lexus and their core customers don’t want that. If they did they would buy a M Series or AMG 63 engined Mercedes. What is DIFFERENT about Lexus is they make very reliable, comfy, well specified, safe, luxurious cars with more than adequate performance for real world driving. Remember the LFA? That was Lexus saying “Yes, we can make a sexy, fast car if we want to”. Unless you take your AMG, M series on a track, you are not going to get the benefit of it on the road, or be able to come close to using all that performance - those who try, usually end up wrapping their prized vehicle round a lamppost....
Excellent review. Just don’t get why they don’t crank more power out of that 3.5 but that’s probably why they last forever and saves costs. Put the LS engine in there and it’ll be a rocket
HERBERT leitner I've thought the same thing before. But when you stop and look at it's performance it's pretty darn good for it's not so lofty nunbers. I occasionally drove the last gen lexus rx350 with the 3.5 and it felt and sounded really great when driving it hard. So it definitely gets the job done!
Most definitely under powered to last Long. When an enginen goes in an Audi, its like 7 k to fix in the UK.. I've had an ex manager within q5 and a friend with an a5 that have had engine issue's and its cost them a lot
Three days ago I purchased a 2019 ES 350 in Caviar with 40k miles. My 2015 Q50 premium needed a new transmission at 10k and prior to that i spent 3k on axle work. I said nope time for another vehicle and now I am sold on Lexus! ❤❤
You say the hybrid has a little less room - the ONLY place it has less is with regard to rear head room - 0.4" less. Otherwise, it is identical in every other way - including trunk space. Also, it may compete with the A4 and C-Class in terms of price, but the ES is far larger.
Great Review. However just one thing, I admit that the hybrid version isn't as exciting to drive than the fsport, however people who buy the hybrid, generally aren't looking for a sporty drive. They generally want a quiet and comfortable ride that doesnt require much effort. Once again, love your guy's reviews but maybe the hybrid isnt looked at for its goal maybe? just a thought
I’m surprised that you compared this car with Audi A4 and BMW 3 series because ES300H has just been launched in India and it competes with BMW 5 series, Audi A6, Jaguar XF, Mercedes E class (LWB) here. Surprising!! And it’s even been priced in the same bracket.
The smart choice is the hybrid. 300+ hp in Fwd is useless and if you’re concerned about sporty driving why on earth would you want an ES? Get the GS or IS
Crazy you are complaining about the quietness of the Hybrid along with lack of power. Its a HYBRID for Christ sakes and people buy it for the comfort and excellent gas mileage, not for its 0-60 time!
Agreed ! My GS 350 has 45,000 trouble fee miles, no hassles, no recalls, no breakdowns. My GF has a RC 350 F sport (22,000 miles) that she loves. She does not miss her old BMW and dealer visits !
Missing sunglass holder near the rearview mirror. No light in the center armrest box. Interior fiber optic ambience light like Mercedes E class or Camaro would have been nice.
All 3 cars are good but the actual trim level and options will decide what the best car is unless you are really set on a hybrid and getting the best gas mileage. Get a loaded up Ultra Luxury trim with all of the options. The F-Sports provides no real performance improvements since the drivetrain is exactly the same as the standard ES-350.
There's no Apple CarPlay on the 2018 Camry. Most likely on the 2019, but you'll still be missing out on feautues like rain sensing wipers, heated steering wheel, heated/cooled seats, and more. Also, exterior design is much better and probably the interior quality and design is much more appealing bc that just comes down to the buyer. Oh and you get a more advanced and smoother active safety system(like FCW, LDW and LKAS and more..).
Go test drive both. Even they share a lot of parts, but feel so much differently. People don’t just pay for the premiums for the brand. Lexus Is much better
Sorry Roman but you're wrong about Lexus Es owners wanting engine noise and road feel; for a fun car, I have a Corvette for that. I want the Lexus ES for luxury, comfort, not feel any bumps, smooth shifting, sunroof, and quiet engine. And now the 2019 gives what I wanted all along in a luxury sedan: Apple Carplay, nonboring styling and some performance 0-60 in 6.6 seconds.
So the Audi S-line and BMW M-sport (not M cars) packages offer more power, or are they also just appearance packages like the F-sport? If you're going to call out Lexus, then do the same with the Germans. Better yet, just refer to all of them for what they are: trim levels.
The ES F Sport will not compete with the Audi S line, BMW M Sport, or even the lowest tear AMG models. All of the German offerings in the same class do cost more and are faster cars, period. The BMW 3 Series, Audi 4 Series, and MB C Class are not direct competitors for the ES, they compete with the Lexus IS and are better is every aspect than the IS is.
I got to say.. I love my 2017 Lexus. Even thought it only got 268 HP. But the Steering wheel just so lovely! Love the Steering wheel even thought only tiny space it's heated
There is so much more to cars than just being fast. The presenter is usually bias for fast European cars for some odd reason. European cars are nice, but often less reliable and more expensive to maintain than Lexus. Consumers purchase cars for different needs or values. Lexus cars give consumers a few good reasons for ownership including reliability, comfort, fuel efficiency, resale value, quality, etc. Some of these resaons along makes Lexus a solid competitor in the luxury car market. The Lexus ES is a well-rounded and solid luxury car. However, Lexus cars can use some improvements in exterior design and appeal or overall handling when compared to European cars.
"chiseled out of a brick" a good thing. Did you test voice commands? Plus all the extra money you retain from buying 87 octane and all the cabin space vs others brands can go toward non car discretionary income.
This was a great review man!!! Question, does the f sport come with an option for the sun and moon roof like the others have? Thats the only thing its lacking for me
Would be great to hear about the ride, handling, infotainment system, noise, and seat comfort. Forget the wheels & looks, I can judge that myself. Perhaps you will do a review later that’s more comprehensive?
For the F Sport version they seem to have taken more or less the same approach as they did with the 2010 to 2012 LS Sport Edition. I love my 2011 SE, but I think they could have changed the engine tuning to up level the power by 10 percent at least since Lexus is notorious for engineering toward long term reliability and I am sure it has more potential. But then the GDI ight be louder!
Thanks for the review. We have a 2004 ES we bought new, now pushing 200K mileage wise and sound as a dollar. Love that car, but ants do have a way of getting in your pants. More horses, better economy? Sure. I might give up and see about a new one. Thanks for pointing out (perhaps) our next car purchase.
It’s like a Citroën C6, if you could understand that car’s concept, you should understand this as well. Only difference is, ES evolved much better than C6
The regular ES looks the best IMO. Really elegant lines and detailing. I had the original ES for 18 years and though it was too mushy a ride for me, it was a beautifully executed and incredibly reliable car. Not one single problem even after 250K kms.
Ok 👍 bud let me break it down for every human been on earth 🌍Lexus is a vip car why it’s made for smooth drive and comfort it’s an excellent exsctive people who love ❤️ comfort and quality rides and worries free ok that’s Lexus for you you want fast junk then go buy German junk or British junk too and fix everyday and live beside your mechanic garage ok Lexus IS ATRU VIP
I'd take an F Sport for the blue color alone, it's just gorgeous. Also I'd say this competes more with Acura, Infiniti (to an extent), Buick, and Lincoln than any of the German brands.
Roman..you gave a verdict - fsport..but during the video ..you mentioned nthg much special about it over regular es apart from looks..does the extra 3k justify the looks? Also how would you compare it to 2019 avalon touring or xse?
This new model IS designed to be sporty that’s why they’re introducing the Fsport trim on this generation of ES. The previous platforms were not suitable for F-Sport language. Not all sporty cars are RWD.
Ahmed Moosaji it is sporty more sporty to drive then the non F Sport models. Remember we are driving cars in public streets not on a racetrack so for daily driving it offers the perfect blend of sporty and luxury
FWIW, I test drove the previous generation one after the other, and I definitely preferred the non-hybrid for quietness, because I found the whine of the regenerative braking system in the hybrid to be obnoxious. In terms of total sound "energy", the hybrid may well have emitted less, but I *preferred* the sound of the non-hybrid. Over here in Australia, we're only getting the hybrid for the new model, so I won't be able to compare the two this time. ;^)
Rakan Canada you're welcome! I am looking forward very much to test driving this new ES - we're getting it this October. I do know that they've added special sound proofing to the hybrid, to try to reduce the noise from the hybrid components - not sure whether the previous model had this treatment or not.
300 hp is not enough? This is not trying to be an M5 and 300 hp is more than most 3 series on the road. The engine is probably the best thing about this car. Smooth, quiet, powerful and it will last for 500,000 miles without trying.
"Lexus needs to add more than just appearance to the F Sport to compete with teh Germans!!!" "The F Sport is just an appearance package similar to Audi S Line..." Auto journalists are stupid... BMW M package is also just an appearance package just like F sport!!!
Does this Lexus ES350 require premium fuel or is the hp rating good when using regular grade gas? ... AND... "Roman..you gave a verdict - fsport..but during the video ..you mentioned nthg much special about it over regular es apart from looks..does the extra 3k justify the looks? Also how would you compare it to 2019 avalon touring or xse?"
Nice car I like it alot as I also like the new camry the ES sister car my only gripe about it is the fact that its a fwd with all that power. I would like to see Lexus maybe team up with subaru and use there awd system. Also I say it should also have a better exhaust system and more power on the F sport to compete with the germans.... But still a nice car however long live the GS class
I went for the hybrid for the very reason you state, just moving down the highway quietly and without fuss. The Mark Levinson stereo is the star, as it were. Not the best, but pretty good for stock.
The 6 is nice if they got rid of the chronic throttle lag issues. But for the mileage, I’ll take the 4 with electric motors. It motorboats a bit because of the CVT, but is smooth enough with the torque from the electric motors.
They’re pretty good in sport mode, but understandable for sure. For commuting a few days a week and the occasional road trip, they do well enough. I’m old. 🤓
I can definitely watch this video in China~!! But sadly Lexus China doesn't offer ES350 due to higher tax on larger displacement engine cars. Lexus started to sell ES in China more than decade ago. 2019 ES in China offers 2.0L/6AT, 2.5L/8AT and 2.5 Hybrid/ECVT. And the hybrid starts at US$53K, without tax... a heart breaking price.
Lexus went to great lengths to make the car quiet, and this guy complains that it's too quiet. It's like driving a Ferrari and complains that it's too fast. What they say is true, never cast pearls before swine.
indeed ....when all is fine they have to complain about something , lol why not complaining about to high reliability :-)
Pokemon2014 it just seems like he wanted it to be more like a sports car. 🤷🏾
Scathing...
Why do reviewers review EVERY car nowadays as is if they're sports cars that people will take to the track?
It's always been like this. All they care about how a car handles even though 99% of buyers never even get close to the handling limits of any car given they're going the speed limit.
I AGREE WITH THIS COMPLETELY!
100% correct!!!
If you get luxury sedan you not really thinking of going to the track if I wanted that I’ll just buy a muscle car or 2 door tuner. But if I get this my next car would be electric car because by then I’m looking for a house
Too quiet means better audio quality from your stereo
That panoramic sunroof is a huge improvement of the current one. The current one has two separate covers and the back one is MANUAL (you have to slide it yourself in the back seat). This, with its one large motorized cover, is similar to the panoramic sunroof in the RX.
The BEST FWD luxury car on sale that money can buy.
And it will hold its value. Love the F Sport gauge cluster, LC500 seats and the LS500 steering wheel both taken from higher end cars
The only FWD luxury car on the market...
I would rather get the Cadillac XTS . You also get the option for AWD with it .
111danish111 Cadillac and value don't co exist 😂😂🤣😂🤣😂
Norm T yeah but it has other better qualities that make it great
It'll be worth $32k in three years. Going to get one then 😁
The ES350 vs. the ES300h is an intelligence test.
Fun or Frugal either way it will last a long time and keep a smile on your face! While holding tremendous value down the road..😏😏
PLATINUM Lexus is fancy Toyota correct yea lots of sex appeal and reliability but not a everything car but still a well made car.
Nicholas Lopez true! 😎
I love lexus and Toyota as you call can tell my Profile picture
A car is not a investment. You should enjoy your car and get use of it, I can’t see myself enjoying a overpriced Camry.
jak p True. But it's still a great car. It's for the people who have the money, and like the car. Even though it's a "overpriced camry". They build the these certain cars because they know people will buy them. And they also know that it's a "overpriced carmy". It just depends on what your willing to spend and like!
You said the 350 was 33mpg combined, i think you meant 33mpg highway
He also said there was a “hint” of torque steer, which having driven one doesn’t accurately reflect the way the steering wheel will whip out of your hands if you floor it like that.
I drive es 350 non hybrid. Love it
The standard ES is chic enough for me without F Sport or Hybrid trim
I have to say. That new Lexus ES 350 looks Nicer than the Toyota Avalon!

UnseenSpirit yeah I worry about these new 2.0 turbo engines pushing out 300 hp. Crazy!
HERBERT leitner its reliable bc its underpowered
What's the point of that in a FWD when the tires are already screeching with it's current engine..
My 2013 ES350 has 121K trouble free miles, but I love that new F sport.
Just picked up a certified pre-owned ‘19 ES-350. It has been an awesome vehicle so far
Three days ago I purchased a 2019 ES 350 in Caviar with 40k miles. My 2015 Q50 premium needed a new transmission at 10k and prior to that i spent 3k on axle work. I said nope time for another vehicle and now I am sold on Lexus! ❤❤

I think the hybrid sounds perfect. That's what you want for every day driving. If you need the beans go rent them for $100/day if you need your runs.
Toyota’s eCVT used in their hybrids is totally different from other CVT, there is no belt or pulley at all.

If anything its loud lol.
Exactly!!!
Love me some Lexus but I want RWD.....
Keeping my 2013 GS 350
Don't cancel the GS sedan Lexus !!!!!
MrMustangrick they are in the US at least, buy a new GS if you want another GS before it goes out of production
^^What he said. The GS will continue in the US.
If anything seek Mercedes E Class
Hey Wade, I also have a MB E400 coupe....love it but keeping my Lexus.
An Es 350 is for someone who has a little money and wants something a little nicer than the average sedan. Overall, I think they’re great cars

Get a loaded up Ultra Luxury trim with all of the options. The F-Sports provides no real performance improvements since the drivetrain is exactly the same as the standard ES-350.
I would go for the camry hybrid , and get everything right without the annoying touch pad
Everything except the interior quality and luxury.
sic22l u can get even red lether in the camry , plus the apple car play , and a nicely design interior
There's no Apple CarPlay on the 2018 Camry. Most likely on the 2019, but you'll still be missing out on feautues like rain sensing wipers, heated steering wheel, heated/cooled seats, and more. @seif salman
Red leather but worse seats, more hard, brittle plastics, no real aluminium, worse noise insulation and many others.
I agree with you about quiet and comfort. My next car will be a es350 ultra luxury, the hybrid 4 cyl isn't as refined.
Thanks for the pic today Roman at the Track testing the new Mercedes-Benz Nashville Tennessee.
Don't ever forget CHICAGO👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
You are most welcome!
So the Audi S-line and BMW M-sport (not M cars) packages offer more power, or are they also just appearance packages like the F-sport? If you're going to call out Lexus, then do the same with the Germans. Better yet, just refer to all of them for what they are: trim levels.
alliejr that's great and all. But how do those cars hold up once the warranty expires?🤔🤔🤔🤔😂🤣😂🤣😂
Germans do have more powerful versions.
alliejr he was talking about Lexus having something to compete with M3, S4, or C63 (dont really know all the AMG models)
Roger J Yeah, it may be outdated but when not compared to it's competition it's a good car. Just you wait until they redesign the IS...
I got to say.. I love my 2017 Lexus. Even thought it only got 268 HP. But the Steering wheel just so lovely! Love the Steering wheel even thought only tiny space it's heated

I wonder if the 8th generation ES will get a RWD verent.
ES-350 = FWD.
ES-400 =RWD.
"chiseled out of a brick" a good thing. Did you test voice commands? Plus all the extra money you retain from buying 87 octane and all the cabin space vs others brands can go toward non car discretionary income.
Yes, it is coming to Germany, too!
I have the ES and enjoy that it's quiet. The Avalon and this car share the same chassis which is a stretched Camry so has more room
Yes. F-sport with the Mark Levinson audio. That's all i needed.
If you want comprehensive, just head over to Alex On Autos
Nothing like Toyota,Lexus,Nissan and Infiniti products, very comfortable vehicles.
Gret review, Roman!
Very informative video.
Just wondering if you guys ever do a recap of cars you would buy from your prior videos ? Thanks
Will the 300h be available in F Sport trim? I'd assume so. Great video, I can't wait to review these bad boys this fall.
I'd take the 300h
If I want a fun fast car I'd get something other than a Lexus
Lexus es300h it’s so good for uber select in Los Angeles. You see it left and right can run for 250000 mile with out change break pads!!
I like the hybrid version.
Oh hell yeah..! I'll take the ES350 F sport. Have the price as LS460, think about that...and you will be a king on the road!
The F sport can be fidgety over some road surfaces. In the looks department it’s a clear winner.
The regular ES looks the best IMO. Really elegant lines and detailing. I had the original ES for 18 years and though it was too mushy a ride for me, it was a beautifully executed and incredibly reliable car. Not one single problem even after 250K kms.
I PITY THE FOOL THAT DOESN'T GET THE F-SPORT!!!
The F Sport should have turbos and AWD.
If you add those then you are moving up to a GS.
I still think that the GS is much nicer and a better buy than the ES. I hope this car doesn’t replace it...
Is there a big difference of comfort between the F sport and the regular 350 or almost the same?
In China there is ES200 2.0 4cylinder 160hp , ES250 2.5 4 cylinder 200 hp .. and hybrid ...
We don't get the ES 350 here in Belgium, because of the emission regulations. I'm sure many other eu countries don't get it either.
New GX please.
Good review, thanks!
The music is too loud when you dont speak. Not a Problem, just saying.
Roman..you gave a verdict - fsport..but during the video ..you mentioned nthg much special about it over regular es apart from looks..does the extra 3k justify the looks?
Also how would you compare it to 2019 avalon touring or xse?
I would like to know the answers/opinion to these questions also!
We Chinese don't have the v6 es350 trim since 2 Es generations ago.
Even if it has the f sport it's not meant to be sporty
That is the IS and GS territory
This new model IS designed to be sporty that’s why they’re introducing the Fsport trim on this generation of ES. The previous platforms were not suitable for F-Sport language. Not all sporty cars are RWD.
GS is discontinued.
sic22l Sadly
sic22l No it's not. Lexus USA its self said it's not getting axed in the US. Only in the European markets.
Ahmed Moosaji it is sporty more sporty to drive then the non F Sport models. Remember we are driving cars in public streets not on a racetrack so for daily driving it offers the perfect blend of sporty and luxury
Which one is more quite than other
350 Or 300 h ?
Thank you for your wonderful report

Greg Sullivan that is good news , i am waiting your report about it , thanks for your quick respond and your helpful report 😍👍🏼
Hybrid is louder for 2019.
I knew you would choose the f sport from the very beginning, you will never choose the hybrid especially with a cvt
Lexus does most things good except for the power. I don’t know why they always lack in that area.
300 hp is not enough? This is not trying to be an M5 and 300 hp is more than most 3 series on the road. The engine is probably the best thing about this car. Smooth, quiet, powerful and it will last for 500,000 miles without trying.
Magnus Leo last longer.. Bmw, Audi and to some extent merc can have engine issues which costs like 7k to repair or at least you will see engine lights
alliejr Lexus had more than enough time to develop a powerful engine that can last 150k miles without serious problems.
UnseenSpirit if they add more power they’ll outperform most cars in their class easily.
Because it's a luxury cruiser, not a sports car.
What kind of Lexus competes with the Audi A6 or the bmw 5 series? I think it’s the es maybe I’m wrong
Fun and excellent video
Nathan did it better, why doesn’t Nathan do it anymore I missed that.
"Lexus needs to add more than just appearance to the F Sport to compete with teh Germans!!!" "The F Sport is just an appearance package similar to Audi S Line..."
Auto journalists are stupid...
Regular gas, not premium
In Europe we only get one engine option 2.5 hybrid.
There no v6 petrol.
So 33mpg combined on the non hybrids with a V6? I would say you would have to be doing 80-90 percent highway to get that.
More like 22 combined on the v6. That was an obvious error.
I hate how lexus doesnt offer v8s in their sedans like bmw and mercedes audi etc
Is it true that the Hybrid has Automatic 8 speed transmission instead of the CVT? If it is it would Rev up and would be fun when you want a pull.
When he said “cojones” it really made me cackle... 😂 #growinguppuertorican
Does the es have the annoying hesitation the rx is plagued with?
Would you buy ES or Tesla m3?
Casually driving down a flat road but still says its too quiet? Get on the freeway
Why does Toyota have different style and model in other country and not sold in the us?
hybrid one, so beautiful
Could you look at the toyota fj cruiser offroaf
Sporty front drive?? I don't think so.
A front wheel drive F sport dont make any sense add all wheel drive over 300 hp then will it make sense nice car
How about a 2019 Toyota Avalon ?
I hate the ES! It's the reason why the GS might go!
even a civic don't get 33mpg combined.
*NO REPLACEMENT FOR LEXUS GS!*
Why does every car have sunroofs? I hate sunroofs!
I went for the hybrid for the very reason you state, just moving down the highway quietly and without fuss. The Mark Levinson stereo is the star, as it were. Not the best, but pretty good for stock.
I'd rather have the v6 over that unrefined 4 cyl.
The 6 is nice if they got rid of the chronic throttle lag issues. But for the mileage, I’ll take the 4 with electric motors. It motorboats a bit because of the CVT, but is smooth enough with the torque from the electric motors.
@@mgmcd1 I can't stand the rubber banding that plagues cvt's.
They’re pretty good in sport mode, but understandable for sure. For commuting a few days a week and the occasional road trip, they do well enough. I’m old. 🤓
@@michaelgrant5258 its so hard to explain that feeling to people; it always makes me car sick
Greeting from China
Hi Back!
Too quiet - SOLD
Buy the Rims!
Forget the car... 😂
Torsee 😂
LMFAO.....
Power trunk in a sedan.. but no Rear heated seats.. Wtf
There are rear heated seats.
Well thats what people do in ES Bro ;)
