The interior of this car is lovely though except for the hard bottom plastic door bins, the 5th gen ES had leather wrapped map pockets. Sit in a gs, and all the areas you complained about cheap plastic would all be soft touch or leather stitched. This is why this car won’t be able to replace the gs, so I really hope the gs evolves into something even greater.
I’m a huge Lexus fan but always felt like the ES couldn’t match its competitors. This has got nothing on the luxury of the E class or the tech of the Audi or 5 Series
The 5 series has nothing but slightly better performance. Extremely lacking in everything else. Having been in all 4, the ES is the most comfortable, no contest. You'll find the best quality materials in Lexus. I do prefer the e-class interior design though.
Most reliable luxury car in the world. No one can touch Lexus’s reliability. Function before the form. This is pinnacle of Automotive manufacturing if you ask me. i like IS. Keep up the good work.
The ES doesn’t replace the GS, it’s between the IS and the GS. It’s a bit less refined as the GS, but bigger than the IS for a similar price as the IS.
Japanese cars age like fine wine🥂while German cars age like milk🥛 with a early experation date!!👍🏽🇯🇲 Ps...and let's not forget a German car depreciates faster than a Lexus because out of warranty nobody wants to deal with a German cars electrical problems and amongst other things.🔧🔩💰💵
True. They may not be as reliable as Japanese cars, but in terms of equipment, fit and finish, refinement and style they still lead the way. People who saying negative about german cars are jealous because they make the world's best cars or because they can´t afford to buy a german masterpiece engineering. That is fact.
Javid Nazary you’re exactly right. Asian manufactures are left in the dust (literally) because all they care about is reliability not innovation, not performance and not being different.
Yeah this car been around since 1989 but this car is an upscale Toyota Camry. That's until they based on the Toyota Avalon. As an American it's very nice but for Europeans I doubt this car will sell well.
Godless Toyota yep Lexus has failed to add value to their brand in Europe. Because lets face it, most people buy a Mercedes or BMW because it has that badge and not because its necessarily the best car
totoIV I heard that too with my European friends they look for the badge never the reliable way as opposed to me I want a reliable luxury car than the badge.
Lexus is making each new model a winner in its category. If hard plastic is bad is subjective. Asians think its cool we think it’s not. The truth is that they do not make sounds and squeaks after years. We are really biased when it comes to styling and interior.
We have to wait & see the reliability & economical feasibility of a hybrid vehicle. Local mechanics say its costly to own a toyota prius because customers need to rely on dealerships for repairs. Local mechanics cant figure out working on hybrid cars as the electonics/batteries are too sophisticated.
No, but it's still a great car. Very comfortable, spacious, smooth and quiet. I am more of a 'German fanboy' myself, an Audi fan in particular, but I'd still recommend this car for people who would pay money for reliability. And even though the ES is actually a more luxurious Camry, I prefer its design over the latter. I'd definitely consider this car, if not shortlist it.
Lexus to me looks like shit. the same old design of the grill and headlights just annoys me. But Lexus is Lexus - the greatest reliable car unlike bmw , mercedes or volkswagen where all the screws and doors start falling off the day after the warranty ends.
In my country,E-class is almost two times more expensive than ES, which put these two cars into two different league.ES is actually in the same price point as a 3-series.Making it a great value to buy.
gianhet No, not really. It is my subjective opinion. But hop into the E-Class and what do you notice about the dash and centre console. It is just blank space, a blank black screen and you are looking at a tele thst is yet to be turned on. I much prefer analog dial, as least the main ones like speedo and techo. Too much tech is subtracting from a sense of quality and appearence and now we have dead space. My subjective opinion is, I do not like some of the most modern dash and console layouts.
@Wageesha Samaraweera, Jordiva Sunaryo Official price for the ES was not revealed yet but trusted sources claim that it will be around the base price of the new BMW 5-series, which also means it's going to be around £5000 more than the base E-class. And it won't be fully equipped because in order to keep the price lower Lexus made a long list of optional equipment.
This new Lexus ES can easily be the best midsize luxury sedan in its class. I’ve checked out the Infiniti G50, the BMW 5 series, the Audi A6, the Mercedes E class and the Acura RLX. The Lexus ES stands out as the elite of the bunch in terms of being plush, smooth ride, quietness, soft and luxurious feel. Moreover, Lexus IS known for reliability, longevity and low cost of maintenance. To top it off, the Lexus ES sticker price us lower than competitors except the Infiniti and Lexus enjoy the highest resale/trade-in value among the premium brand sedans listed in this message. Can’t go wrong with Lexus because Lexus ages like fine wine 🍷
exterior is really gorgeous but its front wheel drive with no AWD option, the interior looks nice but i wish they used higher quality materials like brushed aluminum buttons and the speaker should be the same too other then that great car
I like it how people bash on Japanese cars and the technology used compared to the German Elite Three. Firstly, Japan is one of the most technologically advanced countries in the world. It's not like it is lagging behind Germany anywhere when it comes down to gadgets. The real reason why Lexus & Toyota will never use the newest tech in cars is quite simple - they would put only tried and tested mechanics & electronics, as the majority of those brands' clients actually BUYS them (unlike the leasing options preferred for Audi-Merc-Bimmer). So when you got the average American who keeps his car for an average of 11,5y, you won't rip him off with expensive servicing & tough maintenance. That is why the German manufacturers will be miles behind the Japs in America & Asia. It is understandable that Europeans will prefer the best value for money in the short term, given the type of consumer thinking - rent, do not own. But still - having a Lexus is stress-free, comforting experience that comes at its price.
Paul Shum No mate, bmw leaders in all three areas you mentioned. Please inform yourself before making such wild and ridiculous statements. Audi leaders in Tech you say? Please. Are you just repeating what their adverts told you to say in a bit to appear knowledgeable? Do some research. Here's a starting point for you, two biggest car makers in the world, VW group (including brands audi, seat, skoda etc) and Toyota build cheaper mass produced cars, Good cars at that. Toyota have brand Lexus, which is Toyota in wolves clothing and VW have brand Audi, which is a VW in wolves clothing. Audi a1 = VW polo, audi a3 = golf audi a4 = passat and so on... Takeaway the body panels, interior, seats, and badges you wouldn't be able to tell if you were looking at an audi, VW, seat or skoda. Same engines, transmission gearbox, suspension, chasis etc. As you prove, VW do an excellent job of marketing audi as a genuine alternative to BMW and mercedes. Mercedes are great cars but not on same level as BMW.
Paul Shum fanboy, probably yes. But if mercedes start to make better cars than I will buy a merc. I love old mercs and VW's. Opinion on interior is subjective of course, I prefer BMW interiors to modern mercedes, but I can see why others would prefer mercs.
Can someone tell me why Matt has a secret grudge against BMW’s please?

This will definitely sell well in Europe. Looks so gorgeous
This car uses Toyota ECVT that is totally different from conventional CVTs
You should add question "What do you think, which interior is the best ?" since i find lexuses weird looking but their interiors are just amazing in these new cars,. nice blend of warmth and technology
Lexus makes wonderful cars. 😊❤️
Ken what luxurious that new Lexus ES that doesn’t have and e class and 5 series have ?
The 5 series has nothing but slightly better performance. Extremely lacking in everything else. Having been in all 4, the ES is the most comfortable, no contest. You'll find the best quality materials in Lexus. I do prefer the e-class interior design though.
Most reliable luxury car in the world. No one can touch Lexus’s reliability. Function before the form. This is pinnacle of Automotive manufacturing if you ask me. i like IS. I hope upper models get more refined, but they sure have unique design DNA. Quite remarkable what they achieved in short time.
yet nobody buys them buy old people.
Shuffler131 Not in Los Angeles
+Qk9CWU5ib3x look at the rest of the world. Even Volvo S80 and now the S90 always had a better sales while being pricier than Lexus. Lexus is simply a boring and sterile brand that has nothing to offer and competition is just better all around. Rebadged Toyota with interiér worse than a non premium sedan
Shuffler131 www.autonews.com/article/20180214/RETAIL03/180219862/buick-lexus-jdpower-vehicle-dependability. Most reliable cars in the world. Are you sure they have nothing to offer? If their design doesn't speak to you, I can understand that but are you really talking about same company? They are the third largest car manufacturing company in the world by volume. Volvo is nowhere to be found on this US list www.car.com/buying-guides/best-selling-luxury-cars-10787/
Wait: it's going to replace the GS?? Why??
Love your channel. Watch it all the time.
A.) The grill on the Lexus is to new to be a classic.
B.) I think Lexus is trying to copy Audi's oversized grill and both are out of proportion except the A7. I believe that Lexus should go back to the drawing board with this funky grill design.
Keep up the good work.
Looks pretty elegant.
VALLY Yeah... nah. It looks pretty bloody awful inside and out.
VALLY I read it as "looks pregnant"
NZsarge1 you blind as fk
BASE line
no
It looks so crystal. I love it
The f sport looks 🔥
The ES doesn’t replace the GS, it’s between the IS and the GS. It’s a bit less refined as the GS, but bigger than the IS for a similar price as the IS.
This lexus looks amazing. Second
At 8:22 it shows dynamic radar cruise with SET. Need to verify if cruise was active at time of LTA?
That's Nashville! I thought I saw new ES's on the road last week, probably passed right by you guys

Best car review channel ever
Oh you're too kind...
The back looks so clean tho ...
This is the only time I find that spindle grille looking good on a car.
Japanese cars age like fine wine🥂while German cars age like milk🥛 with a early experation date!!👍🏽🇯🇲
Ps...and let's not forget a German car depreciates faster than a Lexus because out of warranty nobody wants to deal with a German cars electrical problems and amongst other things.🔧🔩💰💵
Described it very well
Bharatveer Singh Judge they actually don’t they are actually one of the worst in reliability
German cars for near term performance; Japanese cars for long term reliability.
Is there an executive one? How about night ambiant lighting??????????
2.5l + electric motor and only 220hp? That's 2.0l diesel power range.
Jack Z no the F sport doesn't make it faster it make the suspension and everything else sporty but the power is the same.
And CVT. It does 0-100kph in 9 seconds...
@Jack Z
There will be no ES350 in Europe.
+sic22l Like I said 9 seconds is mid 2000s 2.0l diesel territory, this is a brand new 2.5l petrol
MadProductionsink I'm pretty sure this hybrid petrol is meant to compete with the 2.0L Diesels like the 520d
i love how matt just went to texas right as i left for california.
Yeah this car been around since 1989 but this car is an upscale Toyota Camry. That's until they based on the Toyota Avalon. As an American it's very nice but for Europeans I doubt this car will sell well.
Godless Toyota lexus does very bad in Europe. They dont even really try here anymore it seems
totoIV that's that I said I doubt it will sell well in Europe. But in North America it's sells good here.
Godless Toyota Avalon
Lexus is making each new model a winner in its category.
If hard plastic is bad is subjective. Asians think its cool we think it’s not. The truth is that they do not make sounds and squeaks after years.
We are really biased when it comes to styling and interior.
R.I.P Lexus GS.
#saveGS
I still havent found why anyone would spend his own money to E-Class over this. Beats me.
S - class = LS
E - class = GS
C - class = ES (comfort oriented) / IS = 3 series rival (sporty oriented)
That is a handsome looking car.
Looks so different and stands out in a quirky way.
But CVT no boy no.
Those rear lights look just like the current BMW X5's!
Those tail lights been in Lexus for years, look at the Lexus Lx 570
Will it come as a ES-F for the International market because there is no more GS-F
No
Front wheel drive = NOPE
You wouldn't say that about an audi
《 jspencjr 》 audi is even worse
There is AWD too fyi
4:15 You can't decompress audio ! MP3 (and many others codecs used in Spotify etc) is lossy compression! So you can't do that.
That's a nice camry you've got there
*avalon
Not based on the Camry.....
You do realize you were in a pre production model with lesser quality, all Lexus have padded door pockets and felt lining
I always found the Lexus grille to be appallingly weird
But if anything it's certainly unique!
carwow you're right but so is a Fiat Multipla haha
All the Lexus ES grilles since 2014 are hideous. Good car, but ugly car.
Pretty daring of them to replace the GS with this, putting a FWD in a market largely dominated by RWD.
FWD+CVT+fixed rear seats. 0-100km/h in 9 seconds and higher price than base E-class.
Lexus to me looks like shit. the same old design of the grill and headlights just annoys me.
But Lexus is Lexus - the greatest reliable car unlike bmw , mercedes or volkswagen where all the screws and doors start falling off the day after the warranty ends.
IRTEHLEETOKNPBB at least Lexus doesnt growing its grill extremely unlike bmw and Audi
Totally agree, the design language is as weird as japanese tentacle porn.
In my country,E-class is almost two times more expensive than ES, which put these two cars into two different league.ES is actually in the same price point as a 3-series.Making it a great value to buy.
The interior of the e class is much much superior honestly
well yeah, if the E-class has the right options. This is quite a bit cheaper than the E-class though.
That digital dash and console sucks. Previous generstions back to the W211 were nicer than the current shite.
1969cmp you're delusional
@Seylan Naidoo
Not in Europe. E-class is the cheaper one now.
gianhet No, not really.
10:45 it's 50 mpg in US mpg, 60 in imperial fyi
New exterior + old interior
Omar Esieed Like with all BMWs?
you need stronger glasses
Omar Esieed someone needs a new prescription!
Lexus makes amazing interiors. They can copy them for the the next 5 years and I wouldn't mind.
Its nicer than the 5 series and Jaquar XE, not quite as nice as the E class or new Audi's A6s interior though.
Loved that BMW setting joke😂
Lexus is good and futuristic, i'm always a fan of them, but i'll take a fully-spec'd E-Class any day.
Jordiva Sunaryo just remember that will be 20,000 £ more
It won't. Base E-class is cheaper than base ES and you'd have to spend quite bit of money in both to get to the top trim.
sic22l Where did you read this?
MN 9 Well the price is unknown yet, but the base E-Class is only £1000 more than the base ES.
@Wageesha Samaraweera, Jordiva Sunaryo
Official price for the ES was not revealed yet but trusted sources claim that it will be around the base price of the new BMW 5-series, which also means it's going to be around £5000 more than the base E-class. And it won't be fully equipped because in order to keep the price lower Lexus made a long list of optional equipment.
Wait a tick! Does anybody know what the wire was hanging out of the Infotainment center!? Is that removable? Am I missing something here?
Where is the top 5 annoying things? It is my favorite segment
Yeah I was lookin forward to that...
That comes into the in depth review I think. This is just the first look review
Dear sir, would you please do a video about 2018 Toyota Highlander Hybrid Limited ?
Toyota doesn't sell the Highlander in Europe.
Top gear if you see this, hope you know whom to hire to fill Matt LeBlanc’s void. It’s another Matt. Matt Watson!! #WatsonForTG
word i second this

It's a Camry
Looks just amazing!
exterior is really gorgeous but its front wheel drive with no AWD option, the interior looks nice but i wish they used higher quality materials like brushed aluminum buttons and the speaker should be the same too other then that great car
It can beat the e-class considering it is very well equipped for the price.
P.S. Carwow still does not support Lexus in Germany!
The F-sport is really nice looking.
Lexus is a great Car
Vile looking car. Understated it is not. Bmw 5 series is the benchmark in this segment, always has been, not e class.
No, BMW is and will forever be the leader in handling, Mercedes in luxury and Audi in tech.
Public Sector Direct huh, I see a bmw fanboy. See the new A6? the e class? Compared to the two cars, bmw interiors are just ugly and cluttered
Paul Shum fanboy, probably yes. But if mercedes start to make better cars than I will buy a merc. I love old mercs and VW's. Opinion on interior is subjective of course, I prefer BMW interiors to modern mercedes, but I can see why others would prefer mercs.
Your title should mention this is the hybrid version...
For example the non-hybrid version doesn't have the CVT.. etc.
I would always prefer a BMW 530d for its pure driving pleasure 😋😋😁
Alosius Antony
The BMW car is unreliable
No. Thats a misconception. BMW is in the top 5 of reliability ratings. Together with audi, Toyota and lexus. Cant remember the 5th one.
It’s not that unreliable as you think. At least it’s not a Toyota.
Dominiq Akoraa where did you find that list mate? I've just looked at 2 and they both had bmw 17th for reliability on cars aged 0-3 years old
TheGMP US consumer statistics. I may send you the statistics later on
I think those paddles on the steering wheel are for regenerative breaking right?

matwatsonwowowowowowow
Say that again.
This car is a full class down from the E class (and Lexus own GS), so I imagine Lexus is thrilled it's being compared to the E.
Can someone tell me why Matt has a secret grudge against BMW’s please?
Fergus Brown They love all Porches and nitpick all BMWS . The new found love is Hyundai ..lol PS. The proof is in the pudding, just look at latest BMW May 2018..or the past( 12 months ) sales numbers verses Lexus, Audi and Mercedes on Bloomberg news...The consumers know best.
I believe you mentioned "18 Watts of power" when you were talking about the sound system? 4:03
