    These cars are simply outstanding. My last 3 cars have all been the ES. The first two were not hybrid. I put 200,000 miles on each of them before selling to a friend and a relative. The one I drive now is the hybrid. It is now 5 years old, and has 84,000 miles on it. Since buying the car I have averaged 34.6 MPG. Have never done anything to any of my 3 ESs, except routine maintenance, tires, and 1 brake job on each of the first 2. Am still on the original brakes on my hybrid model. These cars are very comfortable....Moreover, these cars are RELIABLE.

      Michael Romines which one you prefer? Hybrid? Or non-hybrid?

    • @stephendibari5010
      @stephendibari5010 4 года назад

      Michael Romines I’m on my first ES, a 2013 ES350. Bought last April at 30,009 miles. It was a trade in to a local Volvo dealership as part of a 2 car trade in deal. (Why anyone would trade in a Lexus IS beyond me). I don’t drive more than 6-8 k miles/yr and sure enough I just turned 36k miles.
      This is car is flawless, solid like a tank and quiet like a vault. I have done nothing to it yet except rotate the tires and replace 1 tire Pressure sensor.
      My only complaint is the rear seats don’t fold down. I have 4 1/2 years left on my used car loan, this baby will last me 10+ years! In ECO mode and highway cruising I can easily hit 40 mpg (my dash graph shows it).

      Alex does such a great job of reviewing vehicles - the best in my opinion. Its just too bad he doesn't consider reliability of the brand or model because there is NO way you can compare a Kia Cadenza to a Lexus ES. After all, when all is said and done the vehicle's primary purpose is transportation and if it isn't reliable that defeats the whole purpose.

      @@normt5463 Depends. I got 47 MPG on my 2016 camry hybrid going from NYC to Long island driving on the parkway last night (has epa rating of 40 highway). And I was going 75-80mph on the parkway. If i had the new 2018 camry (supposedly gets EPA 50mpg highway), Id expect to be getting 60MPG going so fast.

    Hybrid fan here, stretched for this car a yer ago, after 9000 miles great decision! Top off my tank for accurate mileage, low to mid 30's around town, high 30's to low 40's EZ freeway driving (60-65 MPH). I like not having to go to the pump as often, even with Lexus sneaking in a smaller gas tank (13 vs 16 gallons) for hybrid vs gas only, get another 100 miles/tank range, high 400 vs high 300.

    I have the 2016 ES300H. Love the car. Looked at trading up to the same model 2019. Saw the weird dash with those funky knobs sticking out of the dash. My first impression was that they built the car and forgot to integrate the buttons so they attached them as an afterthought. Walked out of the dealership with my 2016.

    Great Job Alex, thank you for talking about the advantages of Nimh batteries, most other reviewers don't know anything about things like that.
    You should also mention the advantages of port injection / combined injection (both port and direct combined) vs direct injection, that's another huge advantage of the Lexus. Direct injection engines (all competitors use them) suffer from internal carbon build up due to their design and when they get older that causes extremely expensive problems. Their injectors are fragile and expensive too. Plus their emissions are much more harmful to humans.

    • @RobertLeBlancPhoto
      @RobertLeBlancPhoto 6 лет назад +1

      KOLT
      They do it as a marketing strategy.
      Safety is a top concern for most new car buyers at all price ranges, and buyers like not having to buy top trim levels in order to get all available safety components.
      There’s no reason to think that safety systems from manufacturers that choose to make them optional would work any less well because they don’t offer them on all trims.
      For example, the 3rd gen EyeSight system from Subaru is the same last year as it is this year, even though that for this year, Subaru makes it standard on all trims.

    2019 ES 300h (my first Lexus Hybrid - coming from a Honda Hybrid). There is a loud noise coming from the brake booster pump every time I open the drivers seat or occasionally while driving and pressing the brakes. I have wrapped it with sound deadening (heat proof) material since sometimes it is extremely loud. Maybe that's the way it's supposed to function?
    Funny how I didn't notice that during the test drive and what might be loud for me might not be noticeable to others. Perhaps it's because the car is so quiet that you hear everything (kinda ironic). Thank you!

    could you add scale to your sedan length comparison chart? the 2019 ES on your chart looks twice the length of my audi A4.

      It is, in fact, much much longer. Roomier too, especially behind the front seats.

    I wonder if the stiff ride has to do with the lateral performance dampers and skinny 45 tire sidewalls? I wonder if the Avalon on 17" wheels and softer tuned suspension rides better?

    • @tonysterbenc
      @tonysterbenc Год назад

      The tires, maybe. The lateral performance dampers, no. They're not suspension stiffeners, they're actually shock absorbers bolted to the front and back of the frame. They only make the car quieter and smoother.

    My father is businessman. He like good fuel economy van. I like fast car, suv or van because it is thrilling to drive. Now i like more good fuel economy vehicle when gas prices are higher and higher.

    With the battery under the rear seat, I don't understand why Lexus doesn't design the seat backs to fold down. My best friend owns an ES and he's always needing to borrow my truck to pick up stuff at Lowe's!

    Another stellar review, Alex! After owning a Lexus ES-300 for 20 years of comfortable, trouble-free driving, I ordered its cousin: a 2019 Toyota Avalon Limited Hybrid. In my opinion, compared to the 2019 ES 300, the 2019 Avalon has a more luxurious interior (the available Cognac leather trim is absolutely stunning,) a more logical and easier to navigate infotainment system, and fold-down rear seats, to name a few differences. And the Avalon’s hybrid versions are only $1,000 more than their non-hybrid counterparts. However, most would argue (as does Alex) that the Avalon's grill is rather polarizing than the Lexus's. But beyond that, I believe the Avalon is a solid alternative to the ES 399 for those seeking a luxury sedan without a luxury logo.

      Jerry M, Thanks for the report. I also view the new hybrids as very logical successors to the older generation of V6 Avalon, Camry and ES. Today's hybrids have comparable performance and nearly double the mpg. Please get back to us in 20 years to let us know how your new Avalon worked out. Happy trails ;)

      You should check the Crown which is the Avalon version in Japan they got the improved grill. I drive an Avalon Hybrid that I bought used awesome car I get 40 mpg and it is quiet I wish it had the new info system but the car is great. Hopefully it will never die I do get a lot of bumpy roads out here in Dallas tho.

    Great video Alex, thank you. Indeed, This Lexus ES is a great option for luxury, fuel economy, and low maintenance cost compared to german luxury cars, for example. However, both german and japanese cars have their own fans and the reason is simple. Each car is focused on specific areas like driving performance, fuel economy, overall comfort, technology and son on. Which one is the best for you? There is no simple answer, it depends on what you most expect from a car. Regards from Mexico ( the sadly frustated land for Lexus).

    I just purchased an es350 I wear a ponytail, it hits the headrest and if headrest is risen it hits the roof when the seat moves back and forward. Very annoying.also I was told that it was going to be compatible with android soon but you said it might not be able to upgrade. Not happy since I have android.I had an Es 350 2008 I believe I liked it a lot better.
