While the actual shaping process is not exactly “simple” it does open up a few questions. Should we br taking more old boards back to your local shaper (who arent using robots to shape) and having them refurbished, rather than new blanks?

Dude that paint sprayer makes a world of difference compared to the rattle can special. Cant wait to see what else you do with it. Also so sick how you recreated the original livery of the board and kept that for the remodel.
Don't sweat the thought of "ruining a classic" because in time, this entire planet will be microscopic particles of space dust, then reformed into another planet, and other creatures, or possible a sun. And in the meantime - awesome board creation dude! Also loved the music - especially the bongos at 4:33
That’s just awesome! I did the same thing once to a old board, stripped it down and reshaped it a little and glassed it back up with the same fins, didn’t look as nice as yours, but my daughter rides it now…great video, thanks for showing it!
You fucked up the board!!!! She was certainly working perfectly at that time you just did'nt knew how. Watch out Dane Kehola vids to convince yourself. You should just have grinded the the glass finish and the first layer of cloth and replace them with one layer of cloth and glassing with epoxy. You get a brand new board with a new flex, but with her history untouched, and the shaper signature still visible.
I live in Orange County and love the fact that you created an app for people that need repairs. Even though I love repairing my own boards, I can still support it! Love the videos man
As one of the boards you learned to surf on it should have a special place in your surf life, put on the wall. The new board is nice but is it really that different than 100 other boards out there? Where you really that hard up materials you needed to cannibalize an old friend, or maybe you're just not the sentimental type. Just my thoughts. Cheers.
@@Rogue_wave i still love you and thumbed this up, the algo wins again, im a snob from cali and love old boards it hurt me to watch you do this, i had shirts w/ all those OG logos.
I noticed you store boards in your attic... have you ever experienced delam or any other issues from storing them up there? I have lots of boards and have run out of storage room...
Ouch that hurt watching this one. I would have kept the board as is and restored it. 😢OG style. My old boards are worth Thousands because i restored them . From 60s on up to 90s 😅
Serious, thinking about taking my settlement in a savings, take my but back to CA, do my 6months probation violation and put my skills into something. Fuk I will rent my boards out in sandiego.
This brought back memories. I built two boards 17 years ago just to see if I could figure it out.....before RUclips. I had some crumby books to follow. Learned a lot, but learned more from your video. Dam fun to watch.
Dry lam should have been addressed before glassing the second side. Also, white gorilla glue for the foam patches would be less visible. Constructive criticism for next time. Otherwise, nice video.
Love it I’ve lived in ohio 23 years now but grew up in Norwalk ca katin in seal beach was our shop growing up blast from my past seeing the logo the owner was always so nice to us punk kids
Excellent. Makes me think more about a No Work Team 6'4" Tri Thruster I'd like to repair and repurpose for my daughter over the next few years. Will have to do some research on dimensions/shape etc...
Lot of effort and hard work. Craftsmanship. Sucker for those mid 80's boards. Mostly for the stickers and color as it brings me back. Now you got a lil' shredder instead of an attic dweller!
Sheeeeeeeesh. That last glass layer 🥵🥵🥵 haven’t been out back in a bit on account of living in good ol’ north Texas (closest good surf is bout 4 hours away) but this vid definitely helped stave my surfing blues until I can get out again! Appreciated the footy at the end! The board looks great and looks like it cuts back/maneuvers really well! Considering it’s a Pro personal rider board, it would’ve been much better keeping it original. There wasn’t any need to do this, just fill the dings and repoint the nose and tail, get it watertight and keep it original.
a surfboard belongs to the water..so u r absoluteley right....because of your cid, i made the descicion to do the same to my first surfboard, build in 1986 and give it to my 21 year old son as a birthday present....
Great job showing how simple a process this can be. no more old boards going to landfill! Simply a cheaper blank ;)
Exactly dude! Blanks cost $60 bucks now and some of these old boards are going for $20-40 on offer up.
And thanks
I would not call it simple. Reshaping a board needs practice. It is neither the cutting nor the sanding, it is the dimensioning that demands skill.
I like how Yu made a repucla of dude I thought you where just going to change it looks awsome just of gave it to your uncle

Nice job resurrecting that board. I like seeing the traditional board making skills still going strong.
Thanks Scott!
Neat restoration/reshaping of that board! You have amazing skill and patience!
Justified everything by surfing it and surfing it well. Sick video 🤙
Yewww thanks Liam!

Acetone

here is a cool idea why don`t you make key chain surf boards with the scraps. i would buy a couple for my homies. keep up the awesome videos.
I made a board once...you can still hear the laughter in the lineup at Yokohama.

I have the same cheaper router, looks like when future one pass system says "must use Makita router" that's just a suggestion right? haha
Yep, used that for futures for years

Great informative video. Am in the process of doing similar to a mini mal to a sting 6'9" approx..... what paint did you use.....acrylic?
Wow I think it would be awesome if you showed in detail how you copied the logos and used that photo editor app and printed them to the rice paper.
Thanks for suggesting this! I’ll go into it in more depth soon.
I noticed you store boards in your attic... have you ever experienced delam or any other issues from storing them up there? I have lots of boards and have run out of storage room...
Most of the boards up there are already delammed or dinged up! You should be alright with poly. Epoxy boards might delam from heat.

Weren’t you suppose to measure before cutting and sanding 😂 it’s cool though. Trials and errors
Tip: Glue foam with foam. I use two part foam to glue either EPS or Poly foam or just the two part by itself to fill large voids
Yeah bro, if you want a hand producing boards, here is 8 years of fiberglass experience. Restoration and production
Nice!

I was just gonna fix this board I got for free but you really make me wanna reglass itttt

Total RE-CYCLE....No such thing as a BAD BOARD...😛

Cheers Lars from Dresden

Hey man do you make boards for big Oakes I’m 105kg thinking fish
A++ A good fade job & killer old Katin logo's....! Keep on Rippin"
I say bad idea to lay the stickers down. now it wont bond to the board where the stickers are at. that can be an issue
Hey Joe they aren’t stickers, the logos are printed on rice paper and the resin soaks right through it onto the foam.
awesome process video
Barbie sized board for a ken 😂❤
Respect for keeping the old stickers and emblems 👍
Such a satisfying video! As a fellow craftsman I really respect your work and passion! Great content and keep it up

Great video as always, I love the upcycling series!!🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻
Thanks Felipe! Glad to hear it.
I like the tape on the edge to catch the drips.
I learned.
A board is only ruined if it's not being surfed. Good job.
Words to live by!
Techies just ruining surf culture even more.
Amazing Work! Is it a PU Board and wich kind of colour did you use?
Thank you. Yes, PU board and acrylic paint.
How big were the waves u surfed?
And whats the Liters of the boards
Waves were very small, about 2 feet.
My estimate on volume is probably 27 liters. I don’t know for sure.
