    people says futures/fusion fcs finboxes should be installed prior to glassing, however I see you doing it after, and then adding patches. I would say I prefer the way you do it, I am trying to learn, just reshaped an old wavestorm into a nice 5'4 moontail fish and I am trying to learn glassing techniques. Would you recommend installing finboxes after the glassing and adding another fiberglass patch or just do it before glassing? I feel is easier to not mess up by using the router after the bottom is glassed lol

    • @Shrednaught
      @Shrednaught  Год назад

      I like to do it post glass when I do colour in my resin. It just makes it look cleaner. But you are correct in that it’s safer when glassed. Less chance of accidentally dinging your foam

      What does it change doing just the single concave on the bottom from the concave and bevel on the edges? Doing a 5'2 wooden mini Simmons, hence the question.

    • @Shrednaught
      @Shrednaught  2 года назад +1

      I was experimenting with trying to loosen up the board. With such a wide tail and large fins I was concerned it would track too much. So I beveled up the edges to almost make an edge style board but with V. That increases rail line rocker. I don’t think it was necessary now after surfing it a few times but it does feel really good when you get the right wave.

    • @Pyles586
      @Pyles586 Год назад

      Now watching it again Im curious to know how it feels on the water. I might try to go from a single concave to a light double with the v right at the tail to try to increase maneuverability without compromising the speed. The frame for the board's already cut out so I can't play around with the rails that much. Thanks for the reply

    I really like that kind of board design. Why are the fins so big? They might limit the speed potential by causing a bit too much drag?

    • @Shrednaught
      @Shrednaught  Год назад

      It’s a mini Simmons. The whole design is based around a planing hull. The tail is so wide that without the amount of fin area I doubt it would hold and be super skatey.
      The tail block is wider than most boards are at their centre point 🤣

    • @Shrednaught

      Thanks. Yeh I went all out and signed up to a paid music provider and I think you can tell the difference.
      I’ll definitely do fin design and placement video in the future. No secrets here mate.. 🤙

    Board looks amazing. Sure it surfs fast.
    Did you cut the eps blank to rocker before you started filming or did it come like that?
    Is there any reason for the double stringers down the rail/deck transition?
    What is the idea behind the beveled bottom edge?
    Thanks mate. Love your content

      Thanks mate. Yeh in the right conditions it’s unbelievable. I had the eps hot wired with custom rocker in. You can get almost any block eps supplier to do this for you. The double stringer was more of a challenge for myself. It wasn’t really necessary for this board but I’m pretty happy with the way it turned out.
      The theory with the beveled bottom was all about making a wide board turn. It raises the rail rocker. The mini is pretty flat and straight so I was just trying to help initiate turns. 🤘

    Great build. Love the fins, may have to make some. Ever make removable fins?

    • @Shrednaught

      Thanks mate. Yeh I’ve made a few with futures boxes. I loved them. Problem was I cracked the resin in the boxes a couple times. Might need to add more structural strength to them ( they were wood with resin bases)
      I’ve made them from straight fiberglass but it’s difficult to get the cant in the fin for futures.

      @@Shrednaught That's what I fear. I was thinking of having wood as part of the base for strength but not sure. May do glass ons for a Simmons I'm going to make.

      If you don’t need to do any serious overseas travel, glass ons are good.

      It goes unreal. Took a few times to work it out. Weirdly it doesn’t like gutless mush but if the wave has some push in it and an open face it feels insane.

      Thanks mate. Yeh it’s not a “standard”mini Simmons style set up.
      It surfs amazing. My top 3 board in the quiver to surf atm. I’ll get some footage very soon to upload.

    That was awesome! Quick question: I like the idea of your sander with the vacuum hose a lot more than the big 2-3kg sander/polishers. Have you used the bigger ones too and prefer your smaller sander?

    • @Shrednaught
      @Shrednaught  3 года назад +1

      Yeh I use the sander polisher to do my fin boxes and leash plugs. I’d use it a lot more on the flats of the board too but I don’t have a dedicated sanding room so dust is a huge issue. They’re faster but also more likely to burn thorough in lesser experienced hands. Having said that I do love the mirka I use. Probably the best tool I’ve ever bought

    Sooo nice!! what did you finish the board with?? i am looking for something to seal my epoxy boards with cuz the extra glosscoat with full polish is getting so tiresome!

    • @Shrednaught
      @Shrednaught  3 года назад +2

      The sealer is an acrylic concrete sealer. That’s the same reason I use this sealer on my boards man.. one fill coat and sand on epoxy is enough for me 🤣

    Sickkkk. I like the beveled tuck on the tail area on the bottom of the board. Does that help make a wider outline, like on this Simmons, move rail to rail more easily?

      In theory yeh it should help.. but I’m yet to surf this. I’m hoping to get some footage when I finally get some waves suitable
