I was on a road trip yesterday and about half way through started getting the tpms fault message on the dashboard of my 2012 Escape. Didn't even think about it till watching this video, but at the rest stop just before it started I had bought a cheap phone charger! After watching this video I went out, pitched the charger and drove around the block -- no error! Good stuff!!

I thought this was absurd when I first watched it... I couldn't have been more wrong, and my cheapy item was a cigarette lighter to double usb charging station. Had just put some new aftermarket wheels on my F150 and only knew that they had sensors in them but just figured they were the wrong ones after several failed attempts to train them. Was going to shell out almost $200 for new sensors and installation soon and just happened upon this video. Although it could be many things as Makuloco says, give this tip a try, it saved me so much just in time alone. Got in my truck and unplugged the usb charger as I joked to my wife what this bafoon on RUclips said could be the problem....waited for the flashing light and information panel to indicate sensor failure as I would see every day.... We were driving down the road laughing and the sensor failure never happened again. Guess I'm the bafoon this time :-) Thank you FordTechMakuloco.

I have been fighting this for 6 months before I found your video. After 20 minutes, I would get a message on the dash saying "TPMS Sensor Fault Error". Let it set for a few hours and again it takes 20 minutes for it to show up again. As best I can remember, this started about the time I installed a different dash cam that used a cigarette light plug for power, same as a cell phone charger. I removed the power source and voila, the problem went away. I can't thank you enough for this tip.

I was running my 2008 Escape today on a 3-hour road trip with a Charger Doctor plugged into a 5v USB voltage regulator I had previously installed. The Charger Doctor is a cheap little device which monitors the regulator output and any current drawn by a device plugged into it. This was the first time I drove the car for any distance with the Charger Doctor attached to the regulator output AND the first time I got the tire pressure monitoring system error. I seriously doubt this is a coincidence. Your video most likely just saved me a lot of troubleshooting. THANKS!

Agreeing with all of these comments. Having this intermittent problem right now with passenger front sensor - this is probably why and I am suspecting a USB cable.

This is nuts! My TPMS has recently been coming on and off, in a way that appeared totally random. After watching this video I realize this started right after I got a new, cheap, charger for my phone. I'll bet you that's what's going on. As soon as you mentioned interferanhce, It felt like I was literally slapped in the head. I am an amateur radio operator ( HAM ) and recently installed a new UHF/VHF radio on my vehicle. Thats when the problem started ( like the police vehicle ). I disconnected the power lead to my radio and the LTPM went off. I thought this was a fluke so, I re connected the power and BAM there it is the LTPM. I have since installed a few ferrite beads on the power lead and the problem solved. That was exactly what was causing the fault. A cheap charger. Great video!

Awesome! Thank you. I was about to be upset. I just bought this truck three weeks ago and the light came on today. I had just put in a 2 USB charger jack from Fry's today. Pulled it out, drove down the street and the light went off! Thank you!

In my 2009 Ford Escape Hybrid I get an erroneous Low tire Pressure warning every time I drive near a certain place (On the Westbound approach to the San Mateo Bridge in the SF Bay Area). I check my pressure but it's always fine. Thank you for this video, now people can stop thinking I'm insane for saying something is going on with this issue.

Great info - thanks so much for sharing! Just FYI - this same thing happened to me in my BMW 2010 - every day on my commute the tire sensor light would come on at the same location when I was passing a small local airport. Maybe RF interference.

+FordTechMakuloco my friend I installed 37 inch tires on. A raptor and used stock wheels , and after than the TPMS illuminates and stays like that for a while , what's the problem , and I went to the dealer did a quick checkup nothing wrong with the tires there are brand new , so he did a 360 check up on the wheels and it was gone after leaving the dealer about 5 mins it returned again what's the reason and what's the solution for this , I think beacuase it's about changing tires to larger diameter

    • @Khaled-tx5xj
      @Khaled-tx5xj 8 лет назад

+FordTechMakuloco at the dealer he used some Sensor and at every tire he did a check up and started the engine twice after that it's gone , then it returned after like 5 mins

Thank You for your advice. I have a situation on my 2005 Lincoln Aviator that is puzzling me. The passenger side window motor was replaced by the dealer and since then the auto up down feature stopped working. Manual up and down does works and I have tried several methods to correct this. Not much of an issue but as a hobbyist I have to fix this problem 🤣🤣 so I am reaching out to see if it is reparable maybe the unit is not compatible with this car.. Once again Thanks for the advice.

Thanks for this post. Had a 2011 Malibu with this very issue. Person took the aftermarket charging cable with them and TPMS issue would go away. Hopefully, manufacturers find the workaround for this problem because cheap electrical devices and cables are not going away.

Brad, I know this video is 4 years plus old, but I just had a 2013 F250 super duty in my shop with a B124D-02 for a code. Right front Right Rear sensor would not train. I found a remote back up camera hooked up to the acc. outlet. Unplugged it and every sensor trained and all is well. Customer is ticked because he can't use his B/U camera anymore. I told him he could plug it in when he needs it to back up, but he needs to unplug it going forward. He said he is going to go after Ford.

Good luck going after Ford! They usually deny any responsibity for these type of problems! Poor engineering and design are the true culprits!

I had no idea. I'd installed a mid-level front/rear dash cam pair in my truck and got a TPMS error three days later. Apparently the adapter was the issue. Removed and solved. Thank you!

Wow THANKS FOR THE ADVICE, we have a 2010 Escape, on the way back from a party 1 hour away, we were charging 2 cell phones from power ports and another cell phone was charging from a power bank.
Unplugged and the devices and light went off within minutes. .
    Thanks a million!!!

Well, that'd explain why it happens so rarely in my '08 Taurus, I don't charge my phone very often in the car but it was coming on several times while I was driving on a long trip last summer (we charged our phones quite a bit... needed them for navigation, so they were pretty much plugged in constantly). Since then, it's only come on maybe 2-3 times... so this is sounding pretty likely. Thanks a ton for explaining, now I know I don't really need to worry about it

Mine started after installing new wheels and tires from custom offsets. Keep retraining them with the little push button remote thingy and every morning at a particular spot on my way to work that damn fault light and tpms fault on dash and blinking light.

It only causes interference if it's plugged in, right?? If the charger is in the glove box for storage, that wouldn't cause interference. Also, can a turned on cell phone, tablet, or pc cause interference. In any case, I'll unplug the charger & see if that works. I drove from Fla to NJ and the tire pressure default kept coming on intermittently, blinking at first, then a solid icon, then would turn off after about ten mins. Great tip!!

i'm a Chrysler tech and couple months ago we had a 2013 Ram 1500 in and the complaint was that the TPMS light was going on every time that you past 3000 RPM, at less than 3000 rpm or at idle the light was off.the alternator was the culprit bc it had a bad diode in it and had to much ripple causing a lot of interference try to explain that to the customer

Same issue with my dashcam charger lead on a UK Ford Focus ST, My issue was the end of the charger in the 12v charger port was loose and once tightened and I reset the TPMS level via the user dash interface its sorted. Seems the intermitted voltage to it due to being lose caused interference. Thanks for the video
