How is this impact driver does better or par with Milwaukee m18 impact wrenches such as 2854 and 2855???? I am so confused and I feel like I don't have to get an impact wrench if I have this impact driver.
The power is very impressive, but imo the power of an impact driver shouldn’t exceed that of the 1/4 inch hex collet. I’ve already seen a channel have the collet break due to the power of the tool.
Not bad! Curious if you'll consider redoing Flex with 3.5 and 6.0 stacked batteries. Any comments on the Gen 4 trigger after all the hoopla from Milwaukee?
I use mine to remove the lug nuts on my car … super quick then I just torque them back with a manual torque wrench. It’s only like once or twice a year man, that’s what tools are used for
You can adapt the 2854 impact wrench (same or similar size) with the milwaukee 1/4 hex adapter, 250 ft lbs Obviously gotta be careful with that much power in 1/4 hex, We have reached the power limits of 1/4 hex.
I use the gen 3 and 4 everyday installing ductwork and setting commercial HVAC. These drive modes are 100% useless and obnoxious. Not only do they have a mind of their own and randomly change (not tool specific either) but the anti-strip mode gives you No power to get your self tapper in. You can strip a #10 screw if you have no throttle control on 3 or your going in thin sheet metal. This is the only time i might set it on speed 2. I settled on a gen 3 fuel this black friday as the drill & impact were $120 cheaper than a gen 4 @ $400. The deal was good for a gen 4 as you got a free tool but unfortunately none of the tools were what i wanted as of now. Im taking my $120 and applying it towards a circular saw.

I would be curious as to why this shouldn’t be used to remove lug nuts. I didn’t hear a valid reason other than “trust me on this”. Is there something specific that would damage the tool. Good review…Thanks.
With an impact driver, you're limited to the power that the 1/4" hex shaft (on the adapter) can take. Also, rarely do all the lug nuts reflect the applied torque 3 months, 6 months, or 1 year after they've been installed. Furthermore, many tire shops just run the lug nuts on with an air powered impact wrench on high, over-torqueing the nuts. Adding to the issue, season changes add corrosion possibilities. All of these things, and more, make it not a good candidate for an impact driver to remove lug nuts. Thanks for watching.
In short… it wasn’t meant for that so if you do, don’t curse out milwaukee if it breaks 😂. Fasteners only… wouldn’t even recommend using it for drilling, especially with things like spade bits, unless you’re in a pinch and need to make a couple holes.
Has any impact driver ever broke over 550? I remember you said you said you had a secret driver that held the record which I believed it was the xtr or ridgid please do tell what is the strongest impact driver ever tested 🤔 😉???????
These are nice tools but the lights suck, ot would be nice if they followed Dewalt on that. Also, it would be nice if they made the forward/reverse button on the drill and the speed selection button on the impact a little stiffer and not so easy to bump and change settings
Would be curious as to why you shouldn’t use an impact driver to remove lugs. Seems like the math works out generously, not even flexing half the power of the driver for more than 2 seconds in most cases.
You can, but it's not recommended. It would be like using a small claw hammer to break up a concrete slab, rather than using a sledge hammer. It may work, but it's not the right tool. Thanks for watching.
I thought you were going to compare it to the old gen 3 impact...is there any other difference other than the led lights and 50ft lbs of torque difference from old Gen 3 ?
You'd be happy with either one, and I doubt anyone could tell a power difference between the two. In fact, there's good chance that we could test again, with both impact drivers, and they may do the same. We do love the Tri-LED lights, but that may not be important to you. You may want to check the sales when they first release. They may have a better offer than on the Gen 3. Thanks for watching.
@@Shoptoolreviews Thanks for your honest feedback. I already have like 6 sets of the gen 3,another 3 in surge, even the one-key one, that's why I wanted to know going forward even if there is a sale I am not missing much on Gen 4.
@@ShoptoolreviewsAs someone who works a production job that uses Old Milwaukee impact drivers I promise you that can tell the power difference especially when you get your paycheck. My job provides Gen 3s currently but I ordered myself a Gen 4 and it's a difference of 35% on mlm my rate or $4/hr. The power difference is huge for those of us who would be able to pay attention.
A nut that is 1 inch and at 400 "inch pounds" will only require a tool with 200 inch pounds to break it free, because the diameter is 50% a true inch from the center of the torque. Anyways, cool, but not what you guys think it is.
The 2804 Drill was rated at 1,200 in/lbs, and the new 2904 is rated at 1,400 in/lbs. Both impact drivers are rated at the same 2,000 in-lbs. Basically, you're getting the bump in power on the drill, Auto Stop on the drill, and Tri-LED on the impact driver.
@@Shoptoolreviews Your forgetting the most important upgrade on the drill and that's the fact that the Gen 4 chuck doesn't auto loosen as it does on the Gen 3. A hell of a lot of Rohm chucks have been sold for Milwaukee drills due to this issue.
It will remove lug nuts if they've been torqued correctly and they don't have any corrosion; however, we do not recommend using an impact driver to remove lug nuts. It's just not designed for this purpose. Thanks for watching.
@@mike_t_007 3 of my 4 m18 12ah batteries failed before 30 charge cycles. This was at the 1 year mark and milwaukee would not warranty without the receipts as they were 3.5 years old. Home depot sold me some really old batteries.
@@mike_t_007 nope. Somehow home depot had several batteries in their warehouse that were over 2 years old. I buy them and lost track of the receipts. They fail at the 1 year mark for me. That makes them 3 1/2 years old by the serial number. See thats what people just don't realize is when you buy the higher priced tools they don't move off the shelf as fast and wind up being older than you think. In the case of my batteries i suspect they got lost somewhere and found and just thrown on the shelf. The milwaukee rep said home depot is supposed to return them after 1 year if they dont sell. They'll get replacements for the old ones. Well....i doubt the average warehouse worker even knows that or even gives a shyte either.
There's a lot more going on than what it looks. These nuts/bolts are greased each time we test, so the threads are in near-perfect condition. There is no corrosion and there are no imperfections. Lug nuts on wheels are quite the opposite. To keep this brief, I'll try to explain differently. Swing a 12 oz. ball peen hammer and a 12 lb. sledge hammer. They may both deliver 5,000 psi of force. The ball peen does this over the size of a pencil eraser, and the sledge hammer over the size of a soda can. The sledge hammer will get more work done. The impact mechanism on the impact wrench is much heavier and larger than that of an impact driver. ruclips.net/video/AlQ3WHFlju8/видео.html
@@Shoptoolreviews Curious as to if you think the same with regards to this impact driver and the compact impact wrench? Is the impact mechanism larger on the wrench? They seem the same size from the outside. I use the compact for lug nuts, although probably not ideal. Never bothered with an impact driver but this video did surprise me, still probably wouldn’t use it
Milwaukee SENT you those Tools for Review right ?? I'm Always a little bit Leary when when the tools are sent to the reviewer by the Company , because you know your getting the Best , Perfect.Version of that Tool Ever Made ....
That is a valid concern, and I understand. This actually happened quite frequently some years ago. Reviewers/Influencers would get "special" engineered tools etc. However, that's pretty rare these days, especially from your major tool companies. As for this impact driver, it is very impressive; however, it's still very very close to it's predecessor (Gen3). In fact, on paper, their stats are identical. At the end of the day, you have to be able to trust the source where you're getting your information. It's very sad that many sources have muddied the waters when it comes to truth. We're not perfect, but we will be the first to admit when we're wrong or have made a mistake. Thanks for watching and sharing.
What’s this rated at, 2,000 inch pounds? So about 166 lbf? How is it capable of breaking loose tighter fasteners than the M12 stubby which is rated at 250 lbf (though Tim has broken 400 lbf with the stubby)? Anyone know what’s up with that?
Yeah, it's not possible. It can do over 200 ft lbs loosening, though. It potentially could remove something like an axle nut if it's not all corroded. 600 ft lbs would break any 3/8" hex adapter long before it reached those kind of numbers.

I've had both this and the Dewalt DCF850 and DCF923. The 2953-20 had the best most natural color for the LED lights. What didn't you like about them?
What I don’t like is Milwaukee never gives you a rapid changer
Would be curious as to why you shouldn’t use an impact driver to remove lugs. Seems like the math works out generously, not even flexing half the power of the driver for more than 2 seconds in most cases.
The tool might not last 5 years, if you use it to remove lug nuts everyday.
For the same reason you wouldn’t use a 1/4 breaker bar with lugs, just won’t last
Im going to use it for lugs and everything in between don’t care. Not everyday but maybe once every 3-4 months should be fine.
Golden like
Could I get a quick explanation on why you wouldn’t want to use an impact driver on wheel lug nuts?
You can, but it's not recommended. It would be like using a small claw hammer to break up a concrete slab, rather than using a sledge hammer. It may work, but it's not the right tool. Thanks for watching.
@@Shoptoolreviews Good analogy. Thanks for the reply and the great videos!
Try slapping a h.o battery on it
Milwaukee: leading from behind
Big time
You should've used high output batteries to maximize the fuel power of the tool
I thought you were going to compare it to the old gen 3 impact...is there any other difference other than the led lights and 50ft lbs of torque difference from old Gen 3 ?
VCG Construction recently did a TTR (Tool Test Raw) Gen 3 vs. Gen 4. Differences seemed to be very minimal in his testing.
@@shadetreetoolman2047 I use gen2 impact and hammer drill. I planed to skip gen 3. But after I watch vcg test a few days ago, I ordered gen 3 combo 🤔🤔
👍👍👍👍
No bump in power thought on either drill and impact
Wish he would have tried with the gen 3 as well, probably could have done it.although Milwaukee wouldn’t like him doing that lol
There's not much difference from the Gen3, I mentioned this in the video. We've reviewed the Gen3 in the past as well. Thanks for watching.

What about removing lug nuts on your automobile?
It will remove lug nuts if they've been torqued correctly and they don't have any corrosion; however, we do not recommend using an impact driver to remove lug nuts. It's just not designed for this purpose. Thanks for watching.
I have the gen4 in this review. The tool is awsome but it would be nice if milwaukee would make batteries that wouldn't fail after a few uses!😡
Which battery did you have that died.
@@mike_t_007 3 of my 4 m18 12ah batteries failed before 30 charge cycles. This was at the 1 year mark and milwaukee would not warranty without the receipts as they were 3.5 years old. Home depot sold me some really old batteries.
@unclefester4626 😮 wow sorry to hear about this. So even though the batteries are under warranty, they're still.not honoring them?
Im use. 12 v milwaukie drilhummerdriver
Why buy an impactvwrench just for lug nuts if this can remove them easily. Doesn't make financial sense.

That is why you watch Project Farm or TTC if you want real reviews...
Milwaukee has definitely sent me a dud brad nailer as a review sample before. I don't think they hand pick tools for reviewers.
@@FJB2020 Does Project farm buy all products he reviews?
@@Sim-633 Yes he buys everything out of pocket and will not take any sponsorships or free tools.
Is it a single or dual ball bearing colet retention?
Dual buddy VCG showed it off on one of its shorts i thik
What’s this rated at, 2,000 inch pounds? So about 166 lbf? How is it capable of breaking loose tighter fasteners than the M12 stubby which is rated at 250 lbf (though Tim has broken 400 lbf with the stubby)? Anyone know what’s up with that?
Yeah, it's not possible. It can do over 200 ft lbs loosening, though. It potentially could remove something like an axle nut if it's not all corroded.
600 ft lbs would break any 3/8" hex adapter long before it reached those kind of numbers.
