Horizon Forbidden West is so underrated it’s crazy. I enjoyed it so much more than GOW Ragnorak
Same tbh… Ragnarok is a great game too, but I feel like it got A LOT more praise than it deserved.
Forbidden West was better than ragnorak. Ragnorak was sometimes boring
I defo think the combat mechanics of the Horizon games is very underrated.
Mhm
Horizon Forbidden West is an incredible game. I put dozens of hours into the world. The relationship the characters have with nature and each other make it special for me.
Horizon legit made me cry, I was blown away by it! It’s not perfect certainly but I think at its core it exhibited a lot of heart.
As of April 2023, Horizon Forbidden West is the best looking and most technically impressive open world game ever made. I'll die on that hill.
The hot chocolate was great. The phone call was okay.
Ben Hanson is a damn gem.
I’m so excited to go back to Horizon, I put 95hrs into it for the Platinum and it’s been living rent free in my mind ever since. It is definitely an underrated IP when it is brought up in conversations. Glad to see the Tallneck made a full recovery Janet! I’m hoping Lego releases more. Blessing was trying to say: PlayStation games are likes Taylor Swifts Eras, each game and era are amazing and have a focus of specific things that make people love them without understanding why.
Been playing this all week for the first time and I’m loving it!
Horizon Forbidden West is absolutely one of the best games ever made and will be recognized as one of the greatests of this generation. The story is crazy, characters are memorable but the real stars are the world and the gameplay. Combat is basically what if Monster Hunter was actually fun. Tearing the machines apart and ysing their weapons is absolutely so satisfying. The world is the most beautiful in any open world game ever and is full of amazing things to find or do. It was my 3rd favorite game last year (1 and 2 being the typical 2 you would expect) but I have no doubt in my mind all 3 of those games will be among the best of this generation. No other game is more expensive than Horizon 2, the production per square inch is unmatched and I think it is easily the most underrated game by PlayStation.
So funny you guys are doing this because I literally just started Forbidden West yesterday! Visually one of the most stunning games I've ever seen...
I don't know how far you've gotten, but one of my favorite things about FW was that just when I thought where it was "done", there was something new to see that also took my breath away. That vista when you first get the glider actually made me put the controller down to take in. Absolutely beautiful.
31:50 I can understand that, but I feel like that was intentional because a lot of Forbidden West made me feel like this game was meant to be written as a middle part similar to Mass Effect 2.
In fact, a lot of stuff from Forbidden West is similar to Mass Effect 2 in its structure. For starters, we head into a new place that is considered dangerous by those we know (the Forbidden West & the Terminus Systems), we recruit a team of allies new & old (the GAIA Gang & the Normandy crew), we meet the villains who are tied to the villains of the third game (Zeniths to Nemesis & Collectors to Reapers) & the villain of the third game is tied to the villain of the first game (HADES & Sovereign). It even has loyalty missions with your allies & the game even ends in a suicide mission!
I wish I could beam this message to the world. This game is so heavily inspired by Mass Effect 2 in all the best ways.
Is this the KF/HFW redemption arc we've been waiting one year for? Haha.
it felt more like them trying to find excuses why they gave it a 5.
This episode just confirms to me that Janet is an all-time KF host/personality, and I hope she never leaves. Long live Janet Garcia!
This came out at the perfect time! Having gotten hold of a PS5 in February, I literally platinumed HFW only a few days ago after clocking in 105 hours, and now I'm waiting for my copy of Elden Ring to arrive in the mail tomorrow!
Something I'm hugely looking forward to with the latter is NOT having a map filled with a bunch of markers and just having that itch for natural exploration. Sure, you could turn markers off in HFW, but the landscapes weren't distinct enough from one another or within an eyeshot radius enough of the time. The world was beautiful and expansive, but lots of it was just masses of land as opposed to being interesting points that warranted exploration.
Machine designs are masterpieces. Can't wait to meet the new ones in DLC
Yep so god damn cool
HFW is one my most played single player games. I put about 240 hr in it.
I beat it and then went back and beat it a second time. Thinking about beating the new game plus on the hardest difficulty.
I can't wait for burning shores.
It is the best use for my LG C2 as the game is so beautiful. I often times swap graphics modes for a week or depending on how I want to play the game. Because even the 30FPS mode is beautiful and brings something tangibly different graphics wise to the game.
Hyped for burning shores
I really enjoyed the first Horizon game. The sequel was an uneven experience for me. Some parts I was really high on and was a 10 out of 10 experience and a lot of other moments I was bored to tears.
49:26 Aloy is one of the best PlayStation characters due to her brave, tenacious, determined and genius personality that was shaped by her childhood.. She doesn’t like being worshipped because she has been an outcast for many years.
In addition to these fundamental attributes, Aloy is also charismatic. In the game She tries to stay away from her friends so they don’t get hurt on her mission to save humanity she doesn’t want them to get hurt but
As the story progresses, she learns to be a bit softer to people she realizes that she can’t do it all alone. She knows that bad things will happen and she will lose someone.
Horizon forbidden west is an excellent successor to Zero Dawn. Especially when you consider Rost last bit of advice he gave to Aloy having to be better and help those in need
Horizon is so underrated and under appreciated it's mind boggling. I'm convinced Greg didn't actually play the game in its entirety. This game is a 10/10 masterpiece
Horizon is the second most underrated game on Playstation. No1 is Days Gone.
Timing here is perfect as I'm in the middle of my replay.
This game is even better the second time around no question. The combat, the visuals, the story, all s tier for me. I can't wait to see how they wrap this thing up in 3.
I know some people are worried about franchise fatigue with all the spinoffs and remakes but I want so much more from this world, so bring it on I say.
I love Horizon Forbidden West. I can absolutely critique certain aspects of the game, but I still absolutely love it. Aloy is a fantastic character, with far more depth than she is given credit for.
Janet's heartfelt enthusiasm for Horizon is much needed and appreciated. People have created a strange narrative around the game, always comparing unfavorably to the games around it. I guess this beautiful game just isn't as pretty as the game she's standing next to, therefore she's ugly. Don't get it :/
HFW was so slept on. I've called it a Kingdom Hearts II level sequel it does everything the first game did bigger, better, added more and got weird with it I absolutely loved it.
The game is still probably the best PS5 showcase it's visually breathtaking not just in fidelity but the art that fills the world. Its so expressive the environments tell the story of the worlds past in big and small ways really more than most other games I feel Horizon makes it's setting a character. Not to take away from the characters themselves the way the tribes were handled in this game felt amazing each felt distinct not just in the way they look but the way they fought, what they fought for how they ate and lived there were always interesting characters in the different villages beyond the ones they immediately show you. All their story's really fleshed out the areas and makes Horizons world an intimate one.
I really loved this this game definitely my favorite of Sony's first party output in 2022!
Edit: Horizon to is definitely A game of this generation especially if you're putting God of war up there
KH2 comparison is also accurate with KH2's weaker story in comparison to the original 😂
@@tloz171nfs Gotta heavily disagree Roxas' summer vacation is more emotionally impactful to me than all of KHI.
Definitely divisive tho I think KHII added more complications that weren't resolveddo it can make it weak by proxy but stand alone story beat for story beat I like KHII much better.
@@thepews1511 Roxas story is amazing, yes, but once Sora's involved it gets less interesting. The way KH1 integrated the Disney villains and worlds into the larger story was magical and all that was thrown away KH2 on.
@@tloz171nfs it became less about the novelty of the Disney involvement and more about telling a standalone story with them in it I think it just depends on which one you were into
@@tloz171nfsIt’s because Forbidden West was written to be a middle part, similar to Empire Strikes Back & Mass Effect 2.
The first game primarily focused on the world & how it came to be while the second game focused on developing the characters & set up the main villain of the third game.
Can't wait for Burning Shores
The new hybrid machine looks awesome
And the clouds
Only on ps5
Blessing that was the most aggressive good I’ve ever heard.
Horizon will be remembered because of the gameplay and character animation.
The graphics is also top tier.
I get that sports games in general aren't exactly the kind of games people who listen to gaming podcasts are drawn to, but I feel like MLB The Show might be the most underrated PlayStation IP. Especially when you consider that despite it being available on Game Pass, and that being the first MLB Sim available on Xbox in like a decade, it still was one of the top selling games on PlayStation last year (and it just objectively being the best sports sim game on the market).
i love the sidequest of zero dawn and forbidden west, there is so much story that make the world so alive plus alot of story in those sidequest and new characters that become part of the game franchise i loved it to spend time with the characters, i can say that sidequest are as important as the main story to explore the world of horizon, to learn alot of the lore of horizon, love reading the data points that shows the ancient past plus hidden clue for the story and what comes next
Zero Dawn’s side quests felt pretty basic to me as a lot of them are basically fetch quests but Forbidden West’s side quests feel like they’re on the same level as The Witcher 3’s side quests.
A lot of them show Aloy going out of her way to help complete strangers regardless of where they came from & many of them also delve into the bond between siblings like Delah & Boomer, basically foreshadowing Aloy’s future relationship with Beta.
@@Phanthief95 couldn't agree more. The data points in both games were incredible, but the actual side quests were light years ahead in FW. Absolutely fantastic leap forward that a lot of main liners would never notice.
This is the perfect amuse bouche to get ready for Burning Shores.
I just beat the game last week pouring in hours. Perfect timing
Watched this in 1.5 speed. The intro is fire at that speed.
Masterpiece game! 5/5 ❤🏹 MUST PLAY!
I completely disagree with the assertion that Aloy has no personality.
She just doesn’t fit one of the typical video game main character personas that we’re used to, which I think is actually a plus.
Exactly. She has a personality.
Aloy wants to help everyone she can. She’s incredibly humble & modest & hates the titles that she gets because she doesn’t feel like she earned them. She’s incredibly curious about everything, as seen by the fact that she always asks questions (Even the end of Zero Dawn basically tells us this, & what Elizabet wished for in a daughter was someone who was curious). She’s distant but that comes from her being raised as an outcast & Elizabet being distant with others. She doesn’t want to accept help because she feels like she has to do it herself & is trying to emulate Elizabet, which leads to her character arc in Forbidden West: learning to rely on others & to become her own person & to not be like Elizabet.
@@Phanthief95 Agree with all of this. And she’s constantly gauging how much information she can give people about what’s really going on because telling them too much can be dangerous or mentally destabilizing for them.
Just that alone would create so much distance that it’s hard to really feel close to anyone. I love her personality. It’s very layered.
It’s not just hey I make funny jokes and shoot people but have a heart of gold.
@@mr88nyc Exactly, especially when the things she could tell them could drastically challenge what they believe in, & that’s not always a good thing.
We experience that even now when people question others’ religions. Try telling conservative Christians that Jesus isn’t a white man, see how that goes.
I adored Forbidden West and platinumed it at the time. After playing Call of the Mountain I am so stoked to play the DLC. For me what shone through was the characters and how charming and entertaining the people you meet were. I don't see how the game being 'too polished' is a criticism....I'm glad the game isn't riddles with bugs and glitches.
Loved the game. But must get back to it. Fell off it as other games came out. But want to get back before the doc is out. Loved this game
Can’t wait for Burning Shores!
Good episode
Thanks for watching!
Completely agree with Janet on forbidden west
Hot take: I wish Horizon was a linear franchise. The linear opening to FW that leads up to the Cobra fight is perfectly paced; the environments were catered to always show me cool visuals, the stealth segments were purposefully crafted, and I didn't feel like I was doing too little or too much damage.
Completly agree, the world is to empty, but that story is amazing.
It would kinda ruin the exploration aspect if it was linear.
@@Phanthief95 An easy sacrifice for a more enjoyable experience. Plus in my vision, I think of the design like the Tomb Raider reboot Trilogy, while linear, you can use later abilities in starting areas to access chests, tombs, etc.
@@tloz171nfs It still doesn’t work, especially with mounted machines. You need an open world to be able to travel with them.
@@Phanthief95 orrr they could be used in a set piece, a la vehicle chase sequences in Uncharted.
Still underrated
Horizon 2 felt like it had 2 games smashed into one
Horizon is the Avatar of video games in more ways than one
What I did was platinum Zero Dawn but only did a quest or two of Frozen Wilds. I think I’ll play Frozen Wilds before Burning Shores!
Good Morning Gamers!
You guys review for this game turn into a hate fest instead of giving this game its flowers. This is one of those series that we will look back in and regret not giving it some love.
Playing thru it right now
I absolutely think this series is underrated, because everyone acts like “It’s nothing special”, when they clearly are.
Ragnarok is more iterative and less inventive from its 2018 version, than Forbidden West is of Zero Dawn. I would also add that the world and combat of the Horizion series are MUCH better than the GOW series.
When other games that are similar in structure, which have less depth, variety and overall quality are heralded as some of the best games of all-time, Horizon is gets labelled as “well it a known quantity”, “it’s one of those”, etc when actually it’s the peak of those open world styles.
I really stand by the fact that, if these games were given more time to breath for reviewers, it would be even more praised for its complete, overall world design, story, structure and detail in nearly every area.
Because reviewers rushed a 60 hour game that is built to slowly explore and discover because they needed to finish the story and then do all the activities to ‘get a taste’ of the rest of it to review in a week, it killed the enjoyment due to over playing.
It really hurt the discussion to me, because “well it’s not this other thing that I like”. It felt like Zero Dawn or Forbidden West were thrown away like Woody in Toy Story because Elden Ring or BOTW came.
3:10 One hundred Goddamn percent. Awesome channel…give those guys some love if you haven’t already. Too damn good.
I’m here for the minnmax love
#AloysArmy!
It's always nice to see Janet's support of Horizon. Both games were my GOTY for their respective years and Aloy is one of my favorite characters of all time in any entertainment medium. HFW's story, gameplay, etc. are all incredible and it's one of the most technically impressive games I've ever seen. Can't wait for Burning Shores!
How are you going to ask noted Horizon hater, Blessing if HZD is underrated?
Blessing is lost lol. Fire this guy already. Horizon is way more underrated. While I agree ghost multiplayer is way underrated as well, but as a whole horizon continually gets forgotten about every time a new ps exclusive comes out.
Horizon is an amazing game and if came out any other year, easily goty.
15:55 I appreciated the joke Janet, it didn't get the recognition it deserved
Yeah man Walmart is so rough.
The game looks great and played great for me it was the fact it's just mass effect 2 gathering a bunch of people to fight the main boss just like God of War 2. Once elden ring came out I completely forgot about forbidden west
I’m with Janet. Team Horizon Forbidden West
What is up with the volume switching loud and softer when they do close ups. Really jarring 😅
Horizons biggest problem is the robotic voice actress for aloy
That master of none, jack of all trades was far more dull in Forbidden West than Zero Dawn which had an air of mystery. I was frequently bored because it was dull. Plus Varl and Regalla are great Black game characters. As such huge letdown
If sony released a handheld that was only for remote play, i would probably buy that
Between Forbidden West and Ragnarok as Sony exclusives, I'd go with Forbidden West. Ragnarok has a better story and the combat is great, but the over the shoulder camera is not for me. FW has way better exploration, level designs, and set pieces for combat. Also it as way less in game cutscenes on a rail, Ironwood is a slog!
Forbidden West's 3 most memorable moments (imo) were:
1. Healing the Land Gods
2. Las Vegas Hologram
3. Underground Tallneck
And then I played God of War Ragnarok, got to the Hafgufa side quest and thought "This is more visually dazzling than the Vegas lights, more emotionally fulfilling than healing the Land gods, and more surprising than the underground Tallneck."
I platinumed Zero Dawn and Forbidden West, and I think they could have been so much more than they are... Maybe if anyone other than Aloy understood the world around them, I'd care more about the characters, but everyone's just so... wrong about everything they think they understand, and I just can't bother caring.
That’s because Aloy had her Focus, which allowed her to understand the world around her, & in Zero Dawn the only other person who truly understood it as well as her was Sylens, & that was intentional. Not everyone has them.
In Forbidden West, Varl, Erend, Zo, & Kotallo get theirs & start to learn this. Alva understood the world to an extent when we first meet her since she had a Focus, but hers was an obsolete version & she didn’t get a current version until she joins Aloy.
@@Phanthief95 I agree that there are reasons for it, but that doesn't make it satisfying to me; it just puts my frustrations in context.
I get the feeling that a big part of 3 will be convincing the world about the coming threat, and in my head, I'm gonna be thinking, "Great. It's 2026 and these NPCs are now caught up to where I already was a decade and 2 games ago."
@@Orson_Welp A lot of them won’t need convincing when it’s endorsed by Aloy.
To the Nora, she is the Anointed. She’s basically their chosen one.
To the Carja, she saved Meridian twice, saved Avad’s life, killed Redmaw with Talanah, & helped rescue Avad’s brother Itamen from Sunfall. Why do you think she’s called the Savior of Meridian?
To the Oseram, she was the woman who took down Dervahl & gave them justice for Ersa’s murder.
To the Banuk, she helped out many of them in the Cut & rid them of the Daemon (HEPHAESTUS).
To the Utaru, she helped their people & helped Zo heal Plainsong.
To the Tenakth, she is seen as Hekarro’s champion because of her restoring the messages in the Memorial Grove, defeating Regalla multiple times, & doing what every Tenakth has always wanted to do: Flying on the Wings of the Ten.
To the Quen, she’s seen as a Living Ancestor due to her being a clone of Elizabet Sobeck.
She also sent Erend, Zo, Kotallo, & Alva to spread the word, & a lot of people will listen to them.
@@Phanthief95 All of this is true. It fits into place. But again, that doesn't make any of those tribes or their people COMPELLING.
Helping different ignorant tribes doesn't feel like anything because they all misunderstand what I'm actually doing in the world. I don't care about healing the Land gods because they're not actually gods. I don't care about fixing the Vegas lights because that's all they are, lights. I don't care about clearing up the river so the villagers won't get sick, because they don't believe in medicine.
It's so annoying being asked to invest in these fictional cultures that I know are based on lies and superstition. If I don't care about the people, I don't care about the world, and if I don't care about the world, I don't feel compelled to save it.
@@Orson_Welp That’s basically your own opinion, not Aloy’s.
You may not care, but Aloy does. Horizon isn’t a game where you decide who you want Aloy to be. We’re merely following Aloy’s story, like with every other linear storyline.
HFW got caught up in the Elden Ring Madness Hype thing, so it got dismissed or not really appreciated, also you guys missed the Final Fantasy 16 pax east conference where they showed a bunch of the world and gameplay, hope you guys talk about it soon
Love HFW
Now I'm itching for an ELDEN RING one year later too
Honestly I used melee from the start and liked way more then the bow.
I still don't like the general flow of melee combat but learning it more did increase my enjoyment. Funnily enough my brother playing Zero dawn uses melee all the time so I am curious to see what he thinks of forbidden west when he gets there
I think the only thing that holds back horizon is Aloy, you don’t hate her, but you definitely don’t love her. It’s like having God of War but you play as Atreus instead of Kratos, the lead characters of the best games sort of carry them
Well I definitely love her. She's a wonderful character, with a great character progression.
The talk about Horizon being so perfect that it's boring is profoundly confusing to me. How many times have people (comments especially) ripped into a game because it had a section that was too hard or a character that was super annoying... but when a game DOESN'T have that... it's still bad?????? You want it to be worse to be better??? Make it make sense!
Also yay my write-in was read! Well kinda, Greg skipped over 2/3rds of it, which makes sense because it was quite long! I did not have kind words for Machine Strike, though.
Killzone is the most underrated IP. End of conversation. Playstation behave like it didn't even exist.
Right up there with Resistance.
PlayStation behave like it didn’t even exist?
You do know that the developers of Killzone are also the developers of the Horizon series, right? Who have also referenced Killzone several times in both Zero Dawn & Forbidden West?
Think horizon is caught in between genres and does great in both but doesn’t truly excel in one. Horizon is trying to be a big expansive open world rpg like Elden ring and Witcher 3 but it does lack some openness in gameplay and also has a very static story. Vice versa it’s also trying to be a great action adventure like god of war and ghost of Tsushima but it’s to big to be great at it cause of all the dumb lot it has. Now ragnarok does also have this problem but it’s options and less and it’s more of a focused action adventure game. By trying to do both I think it lacks in certain areas in both genres.
I really loved Forvidden West, but story-wise I was convinced as I was playing it that they were setting it up for Aloy to die and for the other clone to take her place in order to inspire the people to keep fighting. Everything in the game seemed perfectly placed to move towards that story point, especially the way you were treated like a hero wherever you went, unlike the underdog vibe of the first game. This would have set up a new character arc for the third game while still having a conclusive ending to the second one. Instead I didn't think the ending amounted to much, even as the overall experience was great
I never got this vibe at all during the game. The main arc I took note of was Aloy allowing herself to actually make friends.
I never got that vibe, especially from knowing Beta.
Beta doesn’t know how to fight like Aloy because she was never trained in combat. She was also more of a shut-in & didn’t interact with anyone other than Aloy & Varl.
For her to inspire the people to keep fighting would just feel incredibly out of character for her.
@@Phanthief95 Obviously it turned out to just be something I imagined, but as a theoretical idea I think what you point to are strengths. She has identical physical traits as Aloy, so it would be a huge inner struggle and a character journey, much like any standard "hero's journey". The weakness of Forbidden West's story - and again, I loved it overall - is that things came so easy to Aloy, and that the personal sruggle from game 1 was over. Everyone was on her side, everyone was inspired by her, she had little self-doubt and was even annoyed by how much people looked to her. For someoene riddled with self-doubt and loathing to have to step into those shoes, and then go on a character jouney to learn to live up to how she's presented would be intersting to me. The reason people often view Aloy as a bland lead character is because she doesn't have that inner struggle, it's all about physically overpowering the machines. After all, what questions do we have about her as a character in the next installment? To me it's "what cool new machines will she encounter?" and that's it, as much as I love the setting
if people can't remember the names of the important characters in zero dawn and forbidden west this people didn't invest enough in the world of horizon or don't care about the game!
i can remember all main and side characters because i loved so much the story and how alive it is how important sidequest are and the exploration are and get lost in this beautiful world
Dark Cloud 3 when
Honestly, when you play zero dawn after forbidden west, Zero Dawn just feels outclassed. The weapon/gear upgrade system is so much better and feels so much more natural, the story feels elevated, the world itself is MUCH better, diverse, and interesting, the combat is better, the creature design in better, and some of the specific moments I've had with the game are just incredible. I find that the biggest flaw of Forbidden West is that the compass is there. When you turn it off, you get so much more lost in the world and the moments. Suddenly, stumbling onto a village is significantly cooler, and while Aloy's story is kinda boring (about finding community), I really enjoyed the storylines of the supporting cast. I also think Horizon has something really interesting to say about how religion develops and how it can be a barrier to progress.
My favorite moments (Mild Spoilers):
Walking into the Utaru capital and hearing the chorus
The first time you encounter the main villains
Unlocking Flight
Exploring Underwater Vegas
The first direhorn
Activating/returning to your base.
These moments were largely missing from Zero Dawn outside of learning about the basic history of the world. This game assumes you know the rules of the world and is much more interested in diving into how religion/pre-concieved ideas exist in people and how the truth changes them for better and for worst. There's still places for the franchise to improve, but this season has just been fantastic.
please have the same volume level for each camera zoom, hurt my ears a few times..
otherwise great show even if I don't agree with their takes on the story elements of Horizon. It may be that last year was stacked for games and they play games for a living that the story didn't stick as much.
I want playstation invest more time and money into PS VR. There is so much potential there, while a handheld PlayStation does nothing for me, especially if you’re going to be playing the same games on console. I’m sure you can make an argument for handhelds being more profitable than VR for now. I think the idea of PlayStation making a handheld is what gets people going but when people actually get the handheld, I’m sure most will never play it. In the future, I would like to see them attempt handhelds and see if it can be successful in the era of gaming we are in, but not before they give it their all to give the best VR experience to date.
God of war has 7 games in the franchise, not a good example in comparison to horizon games
Dang Bless is awesome but I could barely see him today...admit my screen isn’t great! but kinda bummed. You guys are all great tho...Cheers
Ghost is highly overated because of TLOU 2 hate. Horizon is definetly underated in the fact that , every time it comes out, it gets overshadowed by another game, especially due to the fact that it's a new ip with a lot going on.
Elden Ring was the issue with HFWest
Think Elden ring more so just showed how more limited horizon 2’s world is. In terms of it being an rpg, think horizon 2 is very shallow. It feels great to play but it’s very limited to bows and the other launchers. Which is vastly different than Elden ring and all the different types of combat. Definitely think horizon 2 would have benefited from fewer loot variety of bows (kinda like god of war or ghost of Tsushima) or had expended it more with more options (like elden ring)
I think the discussion of sanding down of gameplay mechanics and systems is put really well, and it makes me think of Insomniac's Spider-Man games going all in on reward, but little to nothing in risk. Unlike the Arkham games, Insomniac's combat is all about making the player feel well fed with a variety of gadgets that will almost always oneshot the opponents. The combo meter is rarely ever used effectively compared to the arkham games, because there's nothing to gain from it, no free-flow state, no combo moves that stun the wide variety of enemies, once you fill a meter in Spider-Man you can automatically K.O almost any of the enemies in the game. Miles Morales changes the system up a bit in good ways but it's far from the balanced and exhilarating systems the Arkham games have presented.
Aloy solving the puzzles before I had a chance to even look around ruined Forbidden West for me. I still haven't finished it because it annoyed me so much.
Most underrated PlayStation Studios IP is Days Gone. Lower critically but beloved by fans. I think it meets the definition.
Facts
The actual "videogame" aspects of HFW are fantastic! The combat and traversal are fantastic! Graphically, its absolutely in a class by itself right now. So, as far as those things go, HFW is a 10/10.
Where HFW falls short is for one, I don't find Aloy a particarly compelling character. She's kind of boring because of her stoicism and messianic personality. She needs more flaws and frankly, she needs her ass kicked a little bit. I wont call her a "Mary Sue" but shes not in enough adverse situations.
My other big issue with HFW is just how much coma-inducing exposition there is in the game! Theres too much damn talking! I found myself just skipping through dialogue after a while because I didnt give a shit anymore! Plus I HATE games with dialogue trees where your choices have no impact on the story! If theres no story impact, just get to the damn point and say what you need me to hear. Dont waste my time with needless padding! The lore of this world isnt interesting enough for me to want to hang on every word spoken.
Most underrated? Probably yeah. Ghost of Tsushima is no way the most underrated, that game gets too much love IMO. I mean some people thought it was better than TLOU2 for christ's sake.
Ghost is nowhere close to as good as TLOU2, but it is significantly better than forbidden west imo. Ghost somehow legitimately made open world exploration and checklist type gameplay feel fun and refreshing. Horizon is more just another open world game that has a lot of boring side stuff
TLOU2 isn't even a good game tho. Even without going into the awful story, the gameplay is so undercooked, barely does anything to stand out from the original. Underutilized traps/enemy interactions, like 1 new Infected, wasted rope physics, low % of enemy encounters, etc.
@@tloz171nfs You clearly played a totally different game.
@@Hessianoct watch NakeyJakey's video on it. He expresses how I feel about the game in a very entertaining way.
I really don't agree with the argument that horizon is owed anything. No one needs to call it a fantastic game because to a lot of people it's just another by-the-numbers collectathon. Just because there's not many games in the genre that you can list that are better than it doesn't make it incredible.
I love you guys but for me this conversation went nowhere for few reasons.
1) Everyone has a different definition of the term "Underrated".
2) You as podcasting team chose not to define the term "underrated" for the conversation.
3) Within the conversation you can tell everyone has a different definition of the term "underrated".
Second comment!!!
Reminder that both Ghost and Shore are NOT plural!
Burning Shores is
@@AndrewB2189 ...oh. MY REALITY IS CRUMBLING AROUND ME!
The most underrated is Returnal, the most overrated is ghost, i would say horizon is slightly underrated.
Days gone is the most underrated ps franchise. It's not getting a sequel. But should. Played it post patches etc. Excellent and better than horizon.
Oh wow I would not compare playstation to pop hits, I feel like that's Microsoft pumping out mainstream garbage
Hey man I love U2.
@@Gameonysus idk if I'd consider U2 "pop hits", haha.
I struggle really hard to find why I don’t like these games. They’re beautiful, they have robot dinosaurs, and pretty engaging combat.
Every time I try and play these games I immediately lose interest. I think it boils down to I don’t care about Alloy, I don’t like enemies constantly respawning in an open world, and I don’t feel like exploration is worth it (which makes me feel like the game would benefit from a god of war/TLoU part 2 style world).
Also, what Ghost is only and 83 on metacritic?! That game is one of the best to come out in all of the PlayStation lineup.
There's so much about Horizon that makes me not like the game overall, it's nowhere near a 5/5 overall imo. It's a game I beat, it was fine, and I'll never touch it again
I liked fbw story more than zero dawn to me zero dawn was overated and fbw is the better version of horizon
FW wasn’t even a hard platinum lol
I liked the game but there was just something about the gameplay that made me not wanna go back to it
