Correction: Bless said it was on Unreal Engine 5, but it's on their own Northlight engine utilizing brand new RTX features. I can easily see how this can be confused. I'm so excited. 13 years! It came out the same day as RDR, but I was constantly switching back and forth and was a bonding tool between my father-in-law and I.
What's Bless talking about? Remedy's engine is an in-house engine, it's called Northlight. It's the same one from Control.
This will definitely become a cult classic much like the 1st game. Thank God for Sam Lake and the team at Remedy for injecting so much creativity and risk Into a pretty stagnant industry ❤
I appreciate a show / cast that can express their thoughts on a game - and each person can actually give it a rating.
I'm so glad that Alan Wake 2 is getting this praise this studio is so under appreciated
Remedy isn’t underappreciated Jesus Christ lol. You could say this maybe back in 2010. Not in a post Control world. Know your shit.
Unfortunately it's still going to flop.
@@mr_m4613 how do you figure that? Control was by all measures a hit and a huge success. Why would they not repeat that success?
great review in progress. greg and janet, I'm not sure if you've played - highly recommend Return of the Obra Dinn for a detective-style game. gives little to no hand holding.
Searched the comments to see if anyone else recommended this. Definitely my go-to for a “detective” style deduction game and one of my favorite games of all time.
Twin Peaks season 3 married with silent hill ambiance with LA Noire gameplay marries with Resident Evil 2 remake gameplay. I’m in heaven. Game of the ninth generation so far. Remedies crowning achievement.
This year man is crazy no time for all these games and it looks like the start of next year is the same hopefully I’ll get to Alan wake over the Christmas break
Weird that this is a PS ILY, no?
Alan Wake 2 uses Remedy's proprietary game engine "Northlight".
I've been waiting for this sequel, that I never thought would happen, for 13 years. I bought a used xbox 360 back in the day, just to play Alan Wake, and it was worth it for me. I played through the game several times, and it left a lasting impression on me.
Greg’s game of the year changing from Starfield to Spider-Man to Alan Wake does carry a small vibe of recency bias
He gives nearly every big release he reviews a 5/5 and it’s usually in an “matter of fact/obviously is great” type way. I think he does fall into honeymoon stages.
Considering those games came out in a linear order and considering the banger year we had, I mean “game of the year so far” is a thing. My game of the year so far in April was re4 remake and now we are almost in November and that’s no longer the case
Random but I hope we get a robo cop review from nick
I fuckin love how goofy it is to have a video game about a book writer presented as a TV show lol
I'm so glad Remedy is getting the mainstream recognition it deserves
I have waited 13 years for this
You waited 1/6 of your life for the sequel to a 7/10 game
@@mattmas6628its okay that you aren't good at Alan wake dude
In Azkaban?
Return of the Obra Dinn is a true deductive investigation game if people are looking for that. Highly recommend.
That being said, having not played Alan Wake 2, I think I'm going to be okay with the Mind Place not having true deductive gameplay as that's not meant to be the primary gameplay loop of this game, and it would probably mess with the pacing. It seems like it's meant primarily for immersion and presentation, and it sounds like it nails that.
The game is so good and genuinely scary. Love it!
I’m happy about the mind palace (White board) being hand holding cause a few weeks back there was this tweet that the game wouldn’t be very hand Holdey and I was worried that I’d get stuck or something would go wrong and I’d have to look whatever it was I was stuck on up on the internet. Blessing says something about UE5 but I’m pretty sure that the Engine for Alan Wake II is the same one (Just better) as the one from Control. Their own engine called NorthLight
Think it's mind place, not mind palace (you're thinking Persona 5)
@@Independenceday95Mind Palace is the real life term for the concept. Mind Place is just Alan Wake's specific term for her smaller room style mind palace. So it's correct either way. They even say palace once during the intro and I had to double take to make sure.
I can't wait to play this tomorrow evening like Greg and get spooked!
If you want less hand holdy detective games, you should try out the Frogwares, Sherlock Holmes, games. From Crime & Punishment and Devil's Daughter, which were PS4/Xbox one games, to the more recent, young Sherlock Holmes. And Blazing Griffin has new games designed like the Frogwares, games based on Agatha Christie's writings, starting Hercule Perot (the detective character director/actor Kenneth Brannaugh plays in Murder on the Orient Express, Death on the Nile, & a Murder in Venice, which are Agatha Christie stories. The detective Daniel Craig plays in Knives Out/Glass Onion is kind of based on that character too). In those games you have to put the clues together yourself, and you can get the clue correlation, wrong, and not solve the cases. Which makes those games a bit more difficult.
Tbh I thin Frogware's Sherlock Holmes struggles with its deduction as well (though deduction is def more center stage). I did really love Sherlock Holmes Chapter 1 though; i consulted on the game before its release.
Didn’t they love Deathloop? Talk about hand holdy
Don't worry about review crunch, Greg. I was in the industry for a long time and I think with the overwhelming majority of games, the quality is usually apparently from the start and fairly consistent through out. It's rare a good game falls apart at the end (live service games notwithstanding) or that a mediocre game improves in the late game. Maybe I'm in the rare minority, but I think this idea that media needs to completely finish a game to provide a competent review is flawed. Yes, can a good game stick the landing is a relevant question, but most great games don't fail hard ... Mass Effect 3 is I think a rare example.
I actually used to spend way, WAY too much time on bad games, looking for any hints of good stuff in them. But really, if a game is doing it's damnedest to get you to put it down, you should, and that should be the review. If a game is encouraging you to play late into the night, that's the review.
i am so, so happy for Remedy! i've waited 13 years for this, and it looks astonishing. that studio has a vibe like no other, and i love that they just went for it and made the game they wanted to make with no compromises. downloading it now, as i finally make my way back through CONTROL. 😄🖤☕
Yes, they bring a peculiar flare to their storytelling, from Captain Baseball Batboy, to the Alan Wake soap opera (Something Falls?), to the weird puppet shows in Control. They provide another source of quirkiness outside of Japan. 😄
Skipping out of this video BTW -- the game releases in 11 hours.
I must be the only person who wasn't smitten with Control. It was less mystery and more spectacle and the respawning enemies was so tedious and showed the combat being not much more then the same 3 things from the first 3 hours of the game
Great game so far but if youre playing on PC, you have to download it on a SDD. Its not playable on HDD, found out the hard way. Had to reinstall due to the path i had my launcher dl in. Once i fixed that, its been playing great and is the first game that ray tracing seems beneficial to the experience.
Why would anyone use a HDD anymore? Seriously, it’s not even a money thing now. You can get REALLY cheap SSD’s.
Alan Wake 2 could be the underdog 2023 Game of the Year.
I’ve waited since 2010 for this moment! Masterpiece!
Alan wake looks amazing , this is a next gen game graphics look sweet
lol Janet is hilarious. Free chips at the restaurant.
I am full of chips.
Can we please Photoshop Nick's face onto Alan Wake in the thumbnail?
Playing on xsx first hour had audio issues, lip sync issues and mind Palace not letting em progress and put clues on the wall! Shame as the story sunk its claws into me but if this carries on I need to wait for patches . Plus it's annoying games are launching like this especially when this was delayed for a week to avoid spiderman . Plus hardly anyone mentioned these issues in reviews for pc / ps5 aswell
How does the game run on xbox ? As reviews are up for pc and ps5 but not heard anything about the xsx. As i would rather buy it for xsx for the rewards points . Then if they release a physical buy it for ps5
We dont know because we just got Xbox codes in. Im sure Xcast will touch on it at some point.
Can't wait to Play this, gotta beat aw1 first
Janet truly doesn't know what she likes in video games. Her opinions are always contradicting and ever-changing. I'm amazed she enjoys anything at all.
😂
Make it physical!
Already platinum Spiderman 2, on to Alan Wake 2 then cruise into MW3
L.A. Noire was a decent detective game
"It looks like a cool Netflix show"
Cmon guys, you have one job
ill buy alan wake 2 when i can get it physical
I would have bought it day one if it had a physical version.
Yup, not giving a full $70 for something I won’t own.
Bros just buy it twice. They deserve the support. Unfortunately, digital is the future. I’m pretty sure it wasn’t completely up to remedy on that decision.
@@greenday051391it's actually $59 whether it makes a difference or not.
@@greenday051391it isn’t $70 though, it costs $60
I didn't think this would vibe with the KF crew for some reason but wanted to hear what they thought regardless. glad Alan wake got an episode to itself
Here's what I'd like to know.....y in the world is this a 4 man review podcast when only 2 ppl have taken control of the discussion almost entirely. This should've been a Greg and Janet podcast because the synergy is way off, considering how lackadaisical both Parris and Blessing are in this review. Guys, yall don't have to overpay the review panel. Be real here.
Greg, why do u overtalk the panel like you do??? What is that??? You give no real space to the panel to speak about their own experiences and cut them off when they're speaking about it. The bit w Parris about NG+ is so weird smh
No Janet. The most genuine detective game to date still is L.A Noire.
This was also my immediate thought
LA Noire was great, but its interview system was wildly wonky. i think the Sherlock Holmes games are pretty good as well, given they seem to have a smaller budget to work with.
This is just me, but even though Spider Man 2 is supposedly great (I'm sure it is), I know exactly what I'd be playing when getting it and it hasn't been that long since Spider Man 1 and Miles Morales. I know I'd have a lot of fun with it but I have no interest in playing more of the same. Mario Wonder seems really cool as well but I don't have a Switch.
Meanwhile, Alan Wake 2, while being a sequel, seems to be markedly different from Alan Wake 1 (and an improvement), it's been a long time since Alan Wake 1, and it's just something different and unique compared to Spider Man and Mario.
So I'll take Alan Wake 2 over Mario Wonder and Spider Man 2 any day. That being said, Spider Man 2 and Mario are going to sell way more copies.
Alan Wake 2 is definitely way fresher than Spider-Man 2 even though I might rate Spider-Man 2 above Alan Wake 2.
Is this game more RE4 or more teltale type of game . Or maybe like death stranding where combat is very much not the core gameplay? Or maybe this is like evil within two because I did play that game years ago.
ehhh, my impression is that it's not exactly any of those
I wouldnt compare it to any of these (tho i havent played evil within 2 and Rob from Remap drew that comparison!). but if I had to pick id go say not at all Telltale, more Death Stranding/RE4. Combat is there for sure in Alan Wake 2 but mostly you're having an adventure
I would rather get the opinion of a bag of sand than Janet or Blessing
God l want another detective game at the level of Outer Wilds
Where is spidey spoilercast 😢
Best year for games ever?
Yo Bless why you gotta mean mug us like that XD 4:40
Haha this is actually because we had a technical issue where me and parris didn’t appear on screen for Greg and Bless (for you guys you see us tho) so they have to look in the direction of the camera to see us. But yes it does look funny.
haha :D
Why is the review on PS I Love You?
I think there's a number of reasons but basically there wasnt space for it on Gamescast I think and then all the console codes we got were PlayStation.
Parris, worrying about Alan wake 2 having a titan fall 2 situation is a bad comparison. Titan fall 2 was in its situation cause it was a fps game coming out between two big fps games being COD and Battlefield. That’s why it failed, if Titan fall 2 was a third person mech action game, it wouldn’t have had that problem. Alan Wake 2 and Spider-Man 2 are two completely different games so Alan wake 2 wouldn’t anywhere near have a Titan fall 2 situation. It would’ve if Alan wake 2 came out between a silent hill game and a resident evil game tho.
I actually really liked Quantum Break.
I feel dirty watching PS I Love You XOXO as a loyal XCast watcher but hey, can’t resist more Parris
Right
It’s video games
I've been watching Xcast and Unlocked over at IGN for years and haven't owned an Xbox since the 360. 😂
@@gumgumleobazooka it was a joke.
We won't tell.
I love the aesthetics and quality of the game i'm just worried i'm not gonna like the gameplay at all but gonna say F it and just buy it and find out lol
MAn, I really hate how the Gamescast went from a podcast about discussing videogames to "let's talk about the game that is currently trending the most cause it's gonna get us views". And now you're turning PS I Love you into that too. I forsee Alan Wake becoming my GOTY but I'd still not sticking around for this.
Downloading it now 😍
I want free chips
They’re so good because they’re there and I cannot stop eating them.
Greg looking for some “we didn’t make anyone crunch” brownie points.
I dont think so. I think he just wants to clarify why we didn't finish the game because unfortunately a lot of people will complain about it in the comments but then those same people will also complain when we beat the game because "we rushed it" so you cant win TBH
I think it’s both. Feels like he got a stiffy announcing that.
Too many good games!!! Ahhhhhhhhh!😮
“On rails but frictionless”? “Like free chips in a restaurant. Are they good? No, but they’re free, I don’t mind them, & I kinda want more”?! This chick is bringing some SOLID analogies 🔥
Janet shouldn't be reviewing a game shes only 20% the way through. Complaining about things which are explained later etc.
I feel like Janet never fully loves any game hahaha
I'm about 5hrs in and so far its amazing.
Glad the game is good, just not for me. Great show
Remedy don't miss
Janet is exhausting to listen to
Thank you 🙏
Haven’t watched yet but whatever Janet or Blessing say, just know the game is better than that lol
I get hipster going against the grain vibes from them lol
This is actually so funny.
I like them and feel like Janet was the most real in this one. She was the only one to really get into the gameplay. Although I am biased because it confirmed my guesses on how it would turn out. Cool story and atmosphere but weaker gameplay. Although this just seems like another preview and not at review. Review in progress is kind of lame imo.
Why is this on PS I love you?
I love that Janet says like "i feel like other games have done deduction better" and then doesnt give examples.
Not sure if I mentioned it here but Outer Wilds would be it for me. Sorry if I didnt bring that up. I honestly cannot remember because Ive gone a bunch of podcasts about this so they have all blended together for me.
@@Gameonysus you did mention Outer Wilds :) ....a game i still need to finish. Every time i drop it, i always make myself start over lol
Its a tough one to start if youve had a break for sure @@kinothemystic
I'm more of a Sacred Symbols guy but Blessing and Greg rock.
I enjoy both a lot they both offer very different perspectives pretty much the other 2 channels i listen to
Bruh that lady is spoiling tf outta the game lmao way to be vague 🤦🏽♂️
I'm also going to say as far as actual reviewing and critique, Janet is the only one I think who can suppress the hype and make a grounded conclusion. I trust her critical eye much more than Blessing and Greg. But Blessing and Greg also have a way of sharing the most joyous parts of a game which allows me to pinpoint some great indicators of how much I will enjoy the product.
That’s very insightful and I feel the same way.
Bless has no idea what he’s talking about when it comes to tech. Unreal engine isn’t even used here lol.
My dam wallet 🥲
Glad it got a nice review, still gunna pass since its digital only, but good for the developers.
That's a shame. I bought it on GMG so I could use coupons and cash back instead of giving $$ directly to Epic, but I would rather have bought on Steam. I hate physical being phased out, but Best Buy getting rid of all physical movies really shows this tidal shift that is just not avoidable any more. Remedy is a smaller studio and did what was best for them.
I wish KF would just wait to put out these review videos. Too often they do these review impressions and never follow up on them with the same people. It feels like a waste of a podcast to ramble mostly unprepared about a game they haven’t beaten. It’s a better listen for us when the speakers are confident about what they are talking about.
So miss out on the most possible views to still not spoil a game initially?
I agree. I wouldn't mind waiting until they have complete thoughts on a game. Unfortunately, that won't make them the money, and they need to capitalize on those fresh views.
@@leevus_t8357 they aren’t making any serious money off of the YT videos so there’s no incentive for them to do the impression videos for a whole podcast. There’s no need for a rush. Also it has been proven that doing a more polished review podcast does better numbers. These are voices folks want to hear from about games. The audience will wait. I just found it contradictory that Greg opened with them explaining they got late codes and weren’t gonna crunch to review it but crunched to do an off the cuff podcast. Idk I’m not trying to be mean or anything, just pointing out a minor critique.
three days to play a twenty hour long game seems like plenty of time, especially when that's your job. What do they mean they got it "late?"
@@mattj2692 it is not their job to just play games. They’re a multimedia platform company. There are only so many hours in a day any one person can can put towards a game they are reviewing. Playing a game for review is also massively different from a casual playthrough.
I'm seeing fantastic reviews everywhere, Gregs gushing over it, then Janet comes in and is and is like, yeah it's good but not that good lol. Hey, each to their own, we all have our own opinions. Glad she was honest.
To hear that the mechanics are "just survival horror" doesn't make sense to me, personally. I love survival horror gameplay! thanks for the review KF crew.
lol yeah I mean you gotta be. Its not that the mechanics are just survival horror but that ive had better survival horror.

Why is this on PS I love You XOXO? I know the game is on Playstation too, but Alan Wake definitely feels like an Xbox franchise since the first was an exclusive for so long. This is like reviewing Metal Gear or Resident Evil on Xcast.
It JUST became a franchise today. Relax.
@@Alilasiankid What are you even talking about? There have been two Alan Wake games before today and Alan Wake was in Control. It has been a franchise for years already.
@@hobolad three if you wanna count the remaster!

@@Alilasiankid So Horizon isn't a franchise since we never got Horizon Zero Dawn 2 instead we got Forbidden West? That is some flawed logic coming from a person who can't even spell the name of this "new" franchise it's Alan Wake not Allan Wake.
I’m not even trying to be mean, but I feel like every time Janet discusses a game she almost always talks about how it’s hard or how she needed help. To be fair, I dont believe she said AW2 was hard, she was discussing Outer Wilds. It’s just a common theme among her discussions. I really can’t bring myself to take her opinion seriously when she clearly doesn’t have a good handle on games in general. I don’t think you need to be a pro to review games, but you should be competent. Man, I still miss Colin and Greg working together….

My man on the right always surprisss me with the pensiveness of his thoughts and takes on games - I watched his entire interview episode with Sam Lake which was EXCELLENT he asked some great thoughtful questions and I think even Sam Lake was impressed - glad to see everyone is giving Remedy thief flowers. So underrated for so long. Totally unique studio.
Also fun fact / he mentions “House of Usher” that is a Mike Flanagan show - he did Midnight Mass, Gerald’s Game, Doctor Sleep etc. there is an AMAZING Tribeca Film fest interview where Mike Flanagan is Interviewing Sam Lake and they are both super fans of each other so it was really cool to hear the talented Mike Flanagan gushing over Remedy games and asking some major fan questions! Check it out 🤙🏽
Yeah Blessing is incredible. We are lucky to have him.
