    Baron Pilot, just wanted to say 'thank you' for allowing me to 'fly along' with you on your flight videos. Flying was the love of my life for many years up until health problems and finances grounded me. I haven't had my hands on the yoke for almost 29 years but I still miss it badly. However, watching your videos makes me feel as if I'm in your plane with you and that provides me with a wonderful feeling I haven't felt in several years. Thanks again and please keep those great videos coming!!

    Now, ask yourself, would 3175W look Soooooo much better with a G500/G600 or the TXi versions of those, sitting in your panel? Yes, I know you like your Avidyne stuff, but it'll work with the G500/G600, at least. With the new TXi version, you migyht even be able to find the old versions at a discount.
    Finally, I'm back working. Believe it or not, I'm repairing, or will be repairing, Honeywell avionics, stuff for the 'Big Boys.' But, it's a job, I'm happy. I'm hoping that inside of two years, I can get my FAA Repairman Certificate, that would be cool.
    Merry Christmas to you and Lucy, and the rest of your family. Enjoyed this trip to the Bahamas and look forward to your return.

    • @BaronPilot

      Oh, I know, believe me, I know. On the other hand, I'm really waiting for Dynon to get their Skyview HDX system certified. The Cessna 172 and the Baron are the two lead aircraft for it While more than the G500, it's not *that* much more, but comes with a 10.6" screen, autopilot (so you can replace the Century IV, available ADS-B In and Out transponder, available dual ADHRS, VFR GPS and other nice features. A 10" for the main display and a 7" for the EMIS (Engine Monitoring)
      Thanks for the well wishes on the job, I hope it's my last one. :)

    • @BaronPilot
      @BaronPilot  6 лет назад

      Average fee that Bahamas charges?

  • @midlifeflyer
    @midlifeflyer 6 лет назад +1

    The only two Part 91 Regulations requiring survival equipment are 91.205 for flights operated for hire, and the more detailed 91.509 for large (over 12,500 lb) and turbine-powered multiengine airplanes and fractional ownership program aircraft. At least from an FAA standpoint there is no formal requirement for our plain vanilla Part 91 flights. But as you point out, the rules of your destination country may be different. And it is always prudent to remember that the FAR is not the only source of the rules that apply to us.

    • @BaronPilot
      @BaronPilot  6 лет назад +1

      Amazing huh? No FAA rules for survival equipment over water for small aircraft flying part 91 for non-hire... I thought it was important to point out that even though the FAA doesn't require it the Bahamas does.

      Baron Pilot sorry for the delay in responding. I looked up this video because I’m planning on flying out to the Bahamas this March not sure where I want to go thinking maybe a short trip to Bimini but Marsh Harbor looks beautiful. But yes flew VFR to EYW south bound along the shoreline better than IFR I think especially the routing they typically give you over the glades. I kept the islands below me all the way down, it was an awesome trip. Cheers

    Double And Triple Check Everything!!! Some Unfortunate News I'll Share With You...There Was A Very Experienced
    Aeronautics Engineer That Somehow Lost Control Of His Plane Shortly After Take Off And Perished In Panama
    Just A Couple Of Days Ago....I Met Him At His Hanger About Five Months Ago...Of Course There Is Now The
    "Investigation"...This Guy (Ron Simard) Had Tons Of Experience And Flying Was Always His Passion...Still...
    This Happened...For Me, It Begs The Question...Does It Happen That A Person Becomes So Experienced That
    They Become Sort Of "Overconfident" And Put Aside Double And Triple Checking Everything Every Single Time???
    Your Thoughts Are Always Appreciated.

    • @BaronPilot
      @BaronPilot  6 лет назад

      I am very sad to hear that. Any loss in the aviation community, even when they are a total stranger is still a loss for all of us. I would never speculate on what happen in this case, nor are you asking me too. But in general, yes complicity kills. It can happen to even the best pilots. No pilot is immune to it. It can happen very easily as we gain experience both in total time and in a particular airplane. I try very hard not to become too complacent by developing some of the habits and routines I have. I personally also attend annual recurrent training at places like Simcom even when I'm not required to just help remind me of that as well. With that being said, something like loss of control can come from many things including events that our out of our hands like catastrophic failures. All we can do is train the best we can and hope we never need it.

    Sincerely appreciate this video Baron. One question... While on an IFR plan out, did they cut you loose at some point and have you squawk 1200 due to lost US radar coverage or did they hand you off to Bahama's ATC? Or, did you just cancel? Thanks much.

      From Bahamas to Florida, unless you have an overfly permit the nearest airport is a POE. But to your question, if I have an emergency I will land wherever I have to as required for everyone's safety. But be prepared to prove it was a real emergency.

      True enough, but his true airspeed was lower than the gps ground speed as if he had a tail wind and he was doing 175 kts. It seems to me BP's ground speed is usually over 180 kts and he was under. Maybe he was flying LOP, but it could have just been the conditions as you said.

      No doubt. Even white knuckling into Walkers in a 58 Foxstar after a heavy shower. Angus to Agnes flying.

    Very interesting and informative video. How long was your flight to the Bahamas? I noticed you fast forwarded the video I assume to save time. Your PIC seemed like a great guy to fly with and very entertaining as well! The best to you and your family for a happy and healthy holiday season! Look forward to seeing the return trip!

      The flight was about 2 hours. Normally I just edit out time but the view was to nice to leave out. Aaron is great and a good friend. I actually have an older video with him "Oysters Flying...." you should check it out. Merry Christmas!

    Great Vlog.. Thanks man. Considering all the hoops & ridiculous fees I don't see this happening for me. Looks like a chain of sand box's would be more tourist friendly.

      Once you complete your first flight you will find it's not that bad. Just need to know the requirements.

    And that's how you safely go to the Bahamas. Timely video, and great refresher. Headed to the Abacos for New Year's. Great to have videos from a twin driver too. Always enjoy them. Thanks for your contribution. Happy Holidays to you and yours

      I've seen many video flying to the islands but no one showing what needs to be done. So I am glad this serves as a refresher!! Happy Holidays!! Let me know how New Years in the Abacos turns out. Sounds like a great idea!!

    • @fshipleyful
      @fshipleyful 6 лет назад

      It was the most detail I've seen. The thing that's difficult to foresee is how frustrating it can be communicating on the ground in the islands. Cell reception is sketchy, the phone at the airport is dead, I want leave early but customs in US doesn't open until 10 a.m., etc. When can I get the 1 hour notice in? That's an important "heads up" y'all did a good job with

    • @BaronPilot
      @BaronPilot  6 лет назад

      We talked about customs not opening and wanting to leave early. It may be in my longer Patreon version. You can always call MIA or PBI customs. They are open 24 hours.

    • @fshipleyful

      Yep. Y'all covered it. Very helpful. GA is a unique way to enjoy the Bahamas. More pilots should do it

    it would be telling for you two pilots to listen for how many times you insert the word "so" into your sentences.
