Amazing! One of my glider students that started with me when he was 12 yrs old is now right seat in a Challenger 350 for Vista. He completed qualification in March 2024.
@@BaronPilot let me know when you come out to KOAK or KHWD. I'll take you out for a beer or up on a bay tour. Haven't lived until you've seen the Golden Gate bridge from a Cessna at 1500'
Enjoyed this episode very much and I have been missing your uploads. Shout out to the company that let you video this flight. Thanks for sharing and I hope to see more of you and Kim too.
Aerial Survey pilot here operating part 91 and I can firmly say there is something rewarding going to different cities every time. Fell out of love with the airline route right before I graduated and looking towards a future with a 135 charter operation.
So I fly with two other guys for a part 91 operator who owns two Lear 45s. We don't really have a set schedule, we just up and leave whenever the owners want to go somewhere. Usually the maximum time we're gone is 4 days, which honestly doesn't happen that often. Most of the time it's 3 days, or even just an overnight. There's also a lot of day trips in there. I'm a younger guy, late 20s. My chief pilot and the other guy are both in their mid 50s, so there's definitely an experience gap. We only do around 500 hours a year total. Sounds great, right? Well, I thought so too when I first started flying there. That's how they sold it to me : "Oh, you'll be home a lot!" And that is true to an extent. What they don't tell you is that it's impossible to make any kind of plans because our owners can call us the day before wanting to go to Broken Dick, Arkansas and we have to go. Doesn't happen that way all the time, but it happens enough to keep you on your toes. Plus we do a LOT of weekend flying. Our busy days are pretty much Thursday to Monday. Which basically means you can have a random Tuesday off, but when normal people want to do stuff with you on the weekend, you'll be unavailable. It doesn't bother my coworkers, they're both pretty seasoned pilots with families of their own, both married for a pretty long time, established in their own lives and whatnot. On their days off they pretty much just stay at home and do Dad things like mow the lawn, play with their RC car collection, or work on their backhoe in their shed. So they can literally be ready at a moment's notice because they don't do anything anyway LOL. But I'm gonna be honest, it's a little difficult for me because I can't really do much on my days off, because you're not really 100% sure you're gonna have that day off until the evening before. Anyway, what I'm getting at with this long rant is that I wouldn't mind the whole 4 days on, 3 days off thing of the 121 world because then at least I'd know for sure those days would be mine. No last minute trips to Palm Beach or St. Simon's that upend whatever you had planned. The whole 2 weeks on, 2 weeks off does not appeal to me also because I don't think a certain person I've been seeing would appreciate it lol. Doesn't matter as much when you've been married for 25 years, but when you're just starting out, it can put some strain on the relationship.
Exactly why I wouldn’t take a Part 91 job that doesn’t have hard days off. I have friends with the same issues. Can plan anything as they never know when a trip will pop up. Another example why I love my schedule.
Definitely a yes for more of these. I've been aware of Vista Jet for a while, I love the livery. If I ever have the money you may see me in the back one day. 🤞👍
I’m a former 135 Charter Jet pilot and currently flying Airbuses for a 121 operator. In my opinion, the flying was way more fun at the 135. However the schedule was terrible. 8-14 days on the road with 2-5 legs a day really took a toll. Now I’m only out 4 days at the most. Works much better for me and my family, but to each their own.
I can definitely feel that. I'm in flight training right now and I wouldn't mind bagging a 135 job when I've got the hours to do so. That being said, I don't have a family yet, so I'm much more flexible as far as work is concerned. I can imagine that with that schedule that you mentioned, being away from one's spouse and children will take a toll indeed (assuming you're married that is). Fly safe!
It’s all perspective. While you may be away more days in a row, you’re also home 2 weeks in a row. Not many people can say that. But again I completely understand both arguments.
Kristoffer, friend of Eric and Valerie here-we met at SNF two years ago. Great video of 135 life! My little comment; don’t fly with a bracelet or watch, on your right wrist. You never know when it could snag important controls!
Great to see you back in the jet. Live the content from the lesser known and more scenic airports! How long before you have Kim in the right seat of the 300?
Hey Kristopher, great video of you flying the Lear jet. Would definitely love to see more videos of you flying the jet as well as the baron. Also want to see more videos of Kim going for her instrument rating as well as her multi engine's rating so we can see her eventually flying the baron. Cheers.
When you go to Blue Mesa, did you happen to look down and see the Blue Mesa International Runway? Back in the late 70's and most of the 80's, I flew my T210 in there for deer and elk season staying in the cabin in Lake City. Also went in Blue Mesa a few times in the 690 Commander. The lake a few miles out of Gunnison is long and deep...also called Blue Mesa Res.
Funny, I opened this video while doing something else. When I started paying attention there was no audio for a couple minutes. When I looked closer I saw that gold chain on your wrist, and thought "I know that chain from someplace", then your voice came on, and I knew for sure who it was!! The Baron grew up and sprouted jet engines!! LOL You look so different w/o sunglasses and a ball cap!! LOL It looks like life is treating you well!!. 8) Ever hear from Greg Mink? I had a couple health issues, but some great Doc's have me up and at it again pretty quick!! Great to see you again Chris!! Till later, take care... --gary

Are you able to remain perfectly comfortable while in those traffic patterns on approach to landing, or is there a bit of nervousness going on? It seems that everything moves at light speed! Awesome videos! Btw, when diving and driving a Trident submarine there was always a bit of nervousness no matter how often you performed the task!
