    This was extremely helpful. I changed the oil and then put it all back together and had no reverse. It turns out that the fork-like guide that switches the gear was not in the correct place. It was flat against the case cover so the cover went on just fine. Mine is the 700 triple so the exhaust system is a pain, but after watching this video I could see where I went wrong and did it over. All good now. Thanks a million!

    thanks for the video... I just took my 2001 Grand touring 600 apart... It was skipping when taking off from a standstill... when I opened it up all the gears fell off , there was NO oil at all and the chain was stupid loose!! ;(
    Luckily the chain and sprockets aren't chewed up... I caught it just in time.
    Cleaned it all up, fresh oil and no more slack... ;)

      It’s a big job 🤣 and shops charge an arm and a leg to do it. Definitely don’t volunteer to do it for your buddy but if you get a killer deal on a sled that needs a track it’s a good thing to know!

      @@ToyShopRestorations I agree.the shop in town is $120 per hour! I had 12 hours in figuring this out and there was no parts left..forward and reverse work.😌 neighbor gave me a hand putting the skid back in and gave him a beer for the lift haha. subscribed!!

    Excellent video and thank you. But you never showed adding the oil in a video on changing the oil. :) I'm assuming you just add through the dipstick hole? Thank you for taking the time to make this video. I have both a 1998 and 2000 formula I recently acquired and this will help.

      Thank you! And yup! Get a funnel and pour it though the dipstick hole! I drained it by popping the cover off. I don’t remember if there’s a drain plug on this or not. Not many do. Have fun!

  • @markp4967

    Toy Shop, if you went straight up that drain hole with the correct allen key (1/8"-3/16"?) you would find the DRAIN PLUG👍🏻

    Late to the game here... I can't seem to get to the bottom left bolt on the cover... is there a specific tool that works best to get there?

    • @ToyShopRestorations
      @ToyShopRestorations  9 дней назад

      I know some of them are a pain in the rear end. Try a combination of swivel adaptors and short extensions. Might be the type of bolt that you can only get like an 1/8th of a turn out of until it’s loose enough to get with your fingers. Good luck!

    • @J.W.Adamson
      @J.W.Adamson 9 дней назад

      @ thanks… oddly enough it’s a 5mm Allen with a nut on the backside that can only be seen thru the footrest grating. This’ll be fun for sure.

    Can you show the steps to remove the exhaust and the battery holder

      Sorry I don’t have the sled anymore. On this sled the battery box is behind the airbox if I remember correctly. And the exhaust is just removing springs. Sorry I’m not more help

    Hey so I just bought a 2001 MXE the top and it’s been rebuilt on it and respond Jen has been fully replaced on it is there anything that I should be doing right away before the season gets going

    • @ToyShopRestorations
      @ToyShopRestorations  2 года назад +1

      Make sure fresh gas is in it and if it’s been freshly rebuilt it wouldn’t hurt to run a couple gallons of premix through it too to give the oil pump a little time to get flowing good again. Too much oil is always better than not enough!

    Question. Behind the reverse gear there’s a chain slider. Do you know what material it’s made of?

    Iv got 2000 skidoo formula 500 Bombardier, that when put into reverse it wont reverse, any thoughts?

    • @ToyShopRestorations
      @ToyShopRestorations  2 года назад +1

      Hmmm does the lever feel normal? Like when you pull it back does it feel like it’s “clunking” into place? It doesn’t really clunk but you can feel it engage in the chain case?

    Hey bud! I got an 03 Skidoo grand touring bombardier 700. Looking to do an chain case oil change. Would this be similar to what I have ?

    • @ToyShopRestorations
      @ToyShopRestorations  2 года назад +1

      Um I’m not 100% sure but a lot of reverse chain cases are very very similar. This video should be very close! This should be enough to make you dangerous 😉

    How much chain case fluid did you use? I have a 670 and a 700 deluxe that I recently picked up and I don't know the proper fill level, also with the dipstick do you fill to the black dot?

    • @ToyShopRestorations
      @ToyShopRestorations  2 года назад

      I don’t think I used more than one bottle on the sled 🤔 and this dipstick has a range but if that’s the only reference spot on your dipstick then I’d go with that

    Could I just suck the chain case oil out to save time?

    • @ToyShopRestorations
      @ToyShopRestorations  3 года назад +2

      Nothing is stopping you from doing that. But the benefit of taking the cover off is being able to visually inspect everything in there. I’d suggest you double check the chain tension if you just suck the fluid out. Loosen the jam nut on the tensioner and tighten the bolt BY HAND and then retighten the jam nut. Make sure the bolt doesn’t turn while you tighten the nut!
